I ran a factory wet and a Kinetic battery for about three years before going Lithium. Just get a battery isolator. $50 or so. It separates the batteries when the car is off. It ONLY connects both batteries when the ignition is turned on.
@Michael Scott lithium is best in my opinion if you have an upgraded electrical system. I upped my amperage and wiring in my car from like 90 amps to a high output alternator putting out 300 amps of power. Dual Guage 0 runs for power coming from the Alternator to the Lithium Bank. My car keeps a voltage of 15.2 and my system when it hits rapidly recharges due to the high Amperage output from the Alternator. Lithium outputs power FAST. No bottle neck to getting power it the amp asks for it.
Im not trying to go that far. I just got upgraded door speakers and two 8s. But in total i am gunna be running about 2000watts rms of amplifiers. (In my car im running about the same with 4doors and a single 15 and suffer major voltage drop). I honestly feel like just a second wet cell or a replacement for AGM would be the little bit extra i need to stay in the healthy zone... but my batt under the hood is literally brand new as of 2 weeks ago so i dont wanna just replace it if theres a possibility i can add a second battery for the same cost@@KerryLNeely
I've had so many systems in my vehicles that I've installed and they've all had eventually failed due to the battery dying or the alternator til I watch these videos this is a great channel.
Once again great informational video. But I'm currently running a wet cell under the hood and agm in the back for a about 2 months now , before I did ran it I read up on what you just explained and came across battery isolators .Bought one and ran from my wet cell to the agm in the back ,so far with car running my wet cell is holding volts at 13.8 while my agm is holding at 14.3 just hope it stays like that, but still planning on replacing the wet cell with a agm, but keep up the good work brother, I rank your channel up there with Steve mead, always waiting to hear your knowledge you provide us true street beaters thanks
@@yougod7253 omg I'm trying to figure what agm to get for my system and MB explained it well.but I saw the comment that you've to charge it ..who wants to do that once a week open hood ECT. For example what if you forgot to charge what happens?? Is true and for any AGM?
I know I'm a few months late, but I just installed a battery isolator to correct my agm/wet cell imbalance, it was my plan from my builds inception and its powering fiercely. Thanks for the much appreciated channel, keep it coming
Very well broken down and I like you terminology you break it down in understandable term ,now I’m about to do the math on my set up and see where I stand ,however I did run 2 AGMs ,got a stinger up front and Xs in the rear.but ahh as always Maryland showing ❤️💪🏾
Wish I had found your channel before I just bought This big wet cell battery. I needed for my truck anyways at the time. But had I know about agm before I got my system I would’ve BEEN gotten one. Much appreciation bro for all your knowledge.
Great information. I was running a wet cell with with a AGM battery now I have a D6500 under the hood and a SMS-220 (Northstar) in the back. I still have the stock alternator and I still get a little head light dimming at night but nowhere near as bad as it was with the wet cell. I guess a 370 amp alternator is next on the list.
Does your alternator charge your AGM battery? I'm having people tell me that an alternator won't charge them. And I just ordered one so now I'm concerned about charging it. Thsnk you got any info
Stock 130 amp alternator Big 4, yellow top optima battery under the hood with xs power d925 battery in the trunk. All 0 gauge ofc wires for single fosgate t1 12 800 watts rms subwoofer wired to 2 ohms on a kicker cxa1200.1 amp. Happy with my simple setup 😊
Ya I could use a bigger alt. Right now running the taramps smart 3 off of my stock alt and xsd3400 so far so good. I'm gonna keep an eye on it and top it off every wk or less being that I live in the northeast 20° today......no dimming what so ever. Also I use a old school toggle switch to cut any power going to my sub amp...
by the agm charging the wet cell battery every time it shut off, is a good thing meaning u dont have to worry about your battery dying, its always charge?
Thank you for sharing this information I almost made a bigger battery purchase as of right now I have two agm 44 Ah so getting. Another of the same will be better idea instead 😊
Agm charging wet cell. I never play my system with engine off. My HO ALT 400 AMP is powerful enough to run my system and keep my two wet cells topped up. . Even if I swap my rear battery to AGM and it re charges my front wet cell when engine is off, what does it matter. ??? Soon as I start my car , the ALT kicks in and tops everything back up. I assume this is only a problem for people who crank up their system with engines off ?? You the boss brother , from U.K.
You can mix wet and agm if you run an isolator. Just like lithium and wet or agm. How you run the system also matters in sizing. If your doing SPL using sine files or demos all day you probably want more power than rock music at 1/4 volume most the time.
Wait, so when i have the car on my wet cell sits at 14.8v As soon as i turn it off it instantly goes down to 12.~ I take it as the batt only can store 12volts but if the alternator is running it can push 14volts through it. So does AGM actually store 14v? And is that why it always tries to charge up the wetcell when the car is off, cuz that wetcell will drain instantly to 12 without the alternator and then the AGM wants to send power to the low voltage to equal out the system
so i have a smart 3k on 2 skar evl 15's i have an Agm 55ah up front and 55ah in back with 300amp alt. big 4 done and all 0 guage ofc. Would i need anything else if i upgrade to 4 15's and the taramps smart 5k ?
My system is putting out around 1200 watts and i’ll need around a 150 amp battery, however my alternator is rated at 130 amps. Do you think i could get by if i keep charging the agm battery or is that not a good idea?
So a vehicle with a 160 amp alternator with a big three upgrade (already understanding that all the big three does is allow better current flow and doesn't add more power)wouldn't be sufficient for a 1200 watt class d amplifier? Thanks in advance if you answer 🙏
That is sufficient... you should be able to see 1200rms and a little more ...possibly. Depends on amplifier and enclosure ability to limit impedance rise
I've been told that an alternator won't charge an AGM battery. But people replace their wet cells with them. How do they charge them besides putting them on a charger every so often. Doesn't the alternator do something?

Stock alternators are only designed to run your stock electronics + a small percentage to compensate for small power surges and natural aging of the alternator. When you add extra batteries, you add to the work load of the alternator; so yes, you definitely need to upgrade your alternator.

Come on man. If you are running 2+ batteries, than you need a switch on it. If running 2 + batteries, they should all be the exact same battery. That said, most cars' charging systems are designed for wet-cell batteries and will not function nor charge properly an AGM battery. You could disconnect the ECU reader and just run an external regulator though.
You don't need a high output alternator. It'll just take longer to make those battery banks to full charge. Simple as that nothing more nothing less. If you battery bank is strong enough you can power 6k RMS on stock alternator. Seen it done
