Thank you for this knowledge. I’m the guy that called you the other day talking about switching from dc audio level 2 to image dynamic you said it’s a lateral move. When I get my enclosure built you will be my go to. Thank you sir and keep up the good work!!!
Thanks for a great video I have a greater understanding of car audio, it took me 10 years to gather all that info and it one video!!! you lay on us like a Baptist pastor on a Sunday morning 😆 🤣
Eeewwww!! You are extremely informative I must say. I've been in and around car audio for over 20 years now, with the exception of life circumstances in there as well. I myself have dove head 1st back in the game over 15 months ago now and I don't mean just grabbin' some new gear and throwing it in my truck. Yes, I have put some in, but now having a daily driver truck is all project now. I have literally been researching, watching and "tinkering every single day since to prepare myself for what I have in the background going on. I have a Brand X 320amp alt, an XP2000, XP3000 in the bed, and a D3400 under the hood. This is where I'm watching your video, helping me 100% comprehend what I'm doing right or possibly doing wrong! I will to start after I pull out the smart 3k, I have a smart 5K Bass that will be on a couple SAV2 12'S, dialed back a bit, then plan to jump up into the U series, or possibly a couple other options. Long and short, just want to say Thank you! This is a fundamental part of car audio in understanding the math break down. Appreciate you! All Respect!!!!
I'd recommend a mechman alternator. They have a 400 amp alt waiting for you. They also put out lots of power at engine idle. If you're running 2 batteries I'd also recommend a battery isolator so one battery cant discharge in to the other. It's a bad feeling when you listen to your stereo with the engine off and then cant crank the vehicle. Isolate your batteries.
Went and bought my 2nd xs power 6500 after this video!! Very good content , detailed information and easy to understand!!! I may need a 2nd alt now that I know
Great explanation 👌 that's how I keep a great efficient system . Been doing this hobby for 25 years before that I was a dj. As a hobby build my boxes etc. Great advice. I grew up with a older crow that was in to cars & car stereo so I learn from the vets
My stupid truck is ECU controlled charging so I have 2 extra AGM batteries....But I do top them off with a charger like once a week...I do ok like this but I wish I did not have ECU charging...But if I go past 20 on the volume just like u said my alt can't keep up
Man why is are these videos so easy to get this the best place to come, I’ve watched about 15 vids like uh what battery what size cons here and get right to what I was looking for. This makes the second one the one about setting the gain on the amp smh 😂 I’m about to subscribe and DIY I was about to go to the shop. Still need a few pointers tho because I’m going with a 5k system and want everything right .
This video answered my question! I was trying to figure out how many watts I could run on stock electrical in a car without having to upgrade everything! Thanks so much
When I had two batteries running, for the first time, I made sure I matched what was under the hood, and then when I could I turned them both in for their core charge and got AGMs from AutoZone for 400. Worth the wait they stay charged and I just hit a 142 with less amp wattage at 2ohms than last time I metered at 2ohms with the same subs and better enclosure.
MB you teach and im learning, i learn something from all your videos on music and were the power starts at, i wish i had known this three years ago and maybe i could have save a lot of money, im on my third alternator in three years, im changing batteries from wet to AMG under the hood and adding a second battery in the rear, to support the alternator until i upgrade to a bigger one, again thank you for your teaching, keep up the good work.
I absolutely love this video very detailed and easy to understand in a way that makes sense when applying to each individual vehicles need! I watch this every time I think about getting anything for my system
Great video as always. Right to the point and in my language ...Strait up. I'm currently running the taramps smart 3 off of my stock 150amp alt and d3400r battery. My installer told me I'd be better off NOT using both batteries or isolated and go strait from the 3400 . Huge difference just replacing my oem agm lexus battery.....wow at the same settings, same song, same volume . Night n day.....
I also purchased the noco 5 smart charger . Charges all types of batteries, and conditions them. I figure it's alot cheaper to maintain my battery rather than a $450 alt + installation on my car. Poor bass head style. I don't keep my vehicles more than a few years anyways.
Depending on how often you drive it and bump it. Don't get me wrong the bigger alt is the way to go hands down. But in my case I don't mind charging the battery once in awhile with a $90 agm charger/reconditioning. Alot cheaper than $800 for my alt+install on my lexus. Also most alternators don't give all there amps unless your engine is up to 2000rpms or more. So if your shits off let's say and your on the highway for like 20min or so a good battery should reach a full charge just running off your alt. But its nice to charge them and reconditioning them once in awhile.
You should be at a 100,000 subscribers bro minimum. You talk real shit. FACTS. Feel like I’m back in college with my professed teaching me the fundamentals of DC/AC circuits plus car audio etc. You da boss my man! Keep it up I’ll keep like sharing. u got a god point right there! I've got in my 2004 wv bora, 1.9 tdi, an 120A Alternator, an 74Ah 750A CCA Varta Silver battery ( not AGM ), a crunch gtx 2600 amp and a 8inch vibe sub with 350W Rms of power and 25 mmp welding cable, with a big 3 upgrade and if i pass over 2V on the gain of the amp ... my headlights are starting to flash :)) The battery has just 3 years tested with a battery tester, every year at the begining of winter and is got 98% life in it but the CCA which was 750A last year, now is 650A when i test it ... maybe it wasn't fully charged ... and i drove like 100km per day, with the music at low volume .... So from what i undersand from your clip, wich is very god explained, my batery is to low for the amp ... The amp can output 600W Rms :D Now i've got a question ... what if u got an higher alternator like say 200A of output, the car needs only 50A to run all the electrics and you've got an 65Ah battery ( using an normal battery not AGM ) ... The alternator will or will not dammage the battery in time? It's an iptothetical question ... Sory if my writing in english is bad ... :D
I'm running my stock alternator with a AGM battery under the hood and a 1800 battery for my system with the big 3 upgrade and I'm running at 14 volts banging my system.
I hope you new guys are paying attion to this video ITS FACTS!!! I get a lots of yung guys asking me about my system.the first thing they bring up is BRAND NAME gear and I tell them if you don't have Knowledge you have nothing.no mater what you running are how much it cost.
See I was thinking about this for a little while, how can I have enough juice to power my t2500 bd cp and my t6004, great explanation as usual, thanks brother. Already had the t1500 but wanted more so lol I bought the 2500
When it comes to Electrical Power, Only 2/3's of a Fuse Rating & Alternator is the max threshold. The excess 1/3 is used specifically upon Start Up & Power Up. 150% is the "Hot Start" for Any Electrical System. After the initial Power Up / Start, Electrical Current Drops Down to Electrical Current Idle.
I just picked up 2 one year old XS Power XP3000s for $250. (Both are exactly 12.9v resting. I'm excited to hook them up. I have a Skar Skv21500.1d running @ 1 ohm. I believe that amp produces 2200 watts @ 1 ohm max. Its powering 4 Skar IX 10's. (200 rms 400 max each) My OEM battery is in the trunk so I'm going to eliminate the OEM battery all together and use those XS POWER batteries in the spare tire well as my starting battery as well. They are almost 100 lbs each. My cobalt will look like it has a lowering kit, lol.
So, 2021 gmc sierra with a 220amp alternator, cut in half to 110, should leave enough head room to consistently run a 600 rms alpine without beating up my alternator?
That’s what my system is based on I have a 250 a Alt with two d7500 XSpower came stock with a 130 amp Alt so my car only needs about 70 amps to be happy so I have about 200 amp for my batts to have. I’m learning man keep talking 👍🏽😝😎💣🔊🔊🔊
Another thing to be aware of agm bateries is that they charge to a higher voltage than a flooded lead acid battery so if your cars electrical system is not agm specific you will perpetually be running them undercharged and damage them
I charge my batts over night every night so when I get in my truck it ready for action.sometimes I can't Evan listing to it that long I just get a taste of bass then I turn it down
Great videos im new to your channel and I’ve been learning alot, I have a 2000 crown vic and I will be coming to you for my box setup. I’ve always been a 15 man but after watching the video on air space got wondering do I have the trunk space for it😮😂.
Good video .i do have a question tho. U said for the alternator amp rating..half of that is for the basic needs of the vehicle and the rest is extra..correct...so in my case..i have an old school car..stock alternator is 60 amp..so thats 30 for the car and 30 extra...ive upgraded to a 290 amp alternator..no new accessories beside stereo equipment...so i should have 260 amp available for extra stuff? Then that should power a 2500 watt system without an extra battery.. correct? Ive done the big 3 upgrade..am i understanding this correctly?
What if I have a 2000 rms Monoblock and a 1000 rms 4 channel do I need to supply 300Ah to run my system? And can a 370 amp alternator sustain a optima yellow top and a Xs Power Xp3000.
What happens if you only get a 80Ah Agm Batterie and a 150Amps Alternator? Original the car has 65Amps Alternator, and 45Ah Batterie biggest Alternator is from factory 90Amps.
want to maximize your electrical system? Get yourself a large 500F XS Superbank capacitor. AGM batteries charge and discharge slowly, as it requires a chemical reaction to take place. This means in between beats your battery may not be able to gobble up that 75A you have extra. A supercapacitor can... and a super capacitor can charge up to the charge voltage of the alternator ~14.5V. Batteries charge at that voltage, but their float voltage is around 12.6V. So that means without a capacitor, as soon as you overrun your alternator, your voltage will drop to 12.6v. Then as you hit the battery it’s voltage drops more. A large capacitor can help reduce battery drain by supplying the dynamic peak demand, at the charge voltage of your alternator. That means potentially up to 2V more input voltage to your amps, which means more output wattage. Its nearly unlimited charge rate means it maximizes your alternator output and effectiveness, over time. A match made in heaven.
So what do you do about these new smart alternator charging systems? What I done since I doing daily driving is keeping my volume about mid way i have a bass 8k taramps on 2 massive xlr 12s in a large enclosure stock alternator with 400ah of reserves because on these smart alternators they won't charge but 12.5 volts until the ecm tells the alternator to charge unless i keep my headlights on no way around this unless I unplug the wire on the negative post so it will unregulated?
XS Power PS1200L or XS Power XP2000...??? Which is a good buy based on your advice with my setup? Everstart 12V/800CCA base Batt 215amp Alt ~ SKAR 2000.1D Amp.
The only batteries I buy are dry cells. I beef up the alternator and I'm good to go. No lights dimming, I've never even needed to charge one, even when drained. I jump it and the alternator charges it back.
I noticed you said a lot about electrical for subwoofers, but you never mentioned the option to run a subwoofer with a capacitor (a device that stores energy from your battery and supplies your sub with the energy it needs), or the option of adding an additional alternator so you have the stock car alternator only powering the car and the second alternator powering only the separate battery that's only for the sub.
Running a cap is literally like a really small battery. Best bet is to always run a battery. Caps aren’t worth the money, they don’t hold a charge long enough.
So I don’t have to disconnect my batts to charge them. To be on the safe side of been disconnecting them to charge them one at a time. Need to get a second buzz box
So my cars original alternator is 150 amps, and in theory my car uses 75 amps, and i replaced it with a 320 amp alternator, and my car takes 75 amps, that gives me 245 amps left over...so should I get an agm that's good for 120 amps, and have a total running count of 365 amps for 3650 watts? I know you said I need headroom, but that is the answer right?
What's going on bro thanks you for you knowledge about car audio.. I have a 2014 Honda Accord sport and I have a 2400 watt for front doors and rear deck and I have 1200 watt bass amp from skar audio running two 12 inches svr subs .. is it good to run agm front and back
so how would I know if a battery is too big for instance I have a 90 amp alternator I have a scar RP 2000 if I cut my 90 and half that leaves me 45 so 450 W if I get the same battery you have will that make up enough or do I need to upgrade my alternator as well
OK so if I'm charging my battery under rhe hood does that count as charging the agm in the back? or do you actually charge the agm in the back? I've been charging one under hood every so often thinking it's charging the back too...
So with having two battery's you say u got 260 alternator would it be good to go with even a bigger alternator like a 360 so u wouldnt have to put them on charger every week ?
Aye bruh I appreciate the videos! I've learned a lot from you. Question: can I use a wet sealed battery for my start battery and agm for my audio if I use a isolater?
So considering my truck came with a 95ah alt, and ima say I use about 50ah for the vehicle. I just got a 320ah hot rated alt, so I have 270ah of excess to power my cab-22 and 250.4, I’m wondering your opinion on how it will behave until I can afford more backup as it has a 70ah lead upfront and a 35ah agm that’s directly to the amp
Good vid, but u have to remember a 220 rating alternator don't come alive until them rpms rise. So 220 at idle u prolly only seeing 45 percent of 220 or so
recently I had purchased a Deka intimidator AGM battery 9A51P. labeled for a 300 cold cranking amps if I'm remembering correctly . I purchased it for my nephew's Prius and he destroyed the car within about 2 months of installing it. now I have a $200 battery sitting on my workbench not sure exactly what to do with it . not familiar with AGM batteries it's labeled as a dual purpose battery (start and deep cycle). can these batteries be utilized for something else besides a Prius? thanks

Then that should power a 2500 watt system without an extra battery.. correct? Ive done the big 3 upgrade..am i understanding this correctly?
So ultimately is best to either get a mac alt or upgrade the original alternator housing that came with the vehicle
Are you still using AGM? what lithium?
Awesome vid
Great video....
'96 Ranger comes with 95 amp. Looking at getting that Mechman 370 amp.
Never ever run a system with the ignition off.
Can u drop a video of how you charge ur batteries.
Or…you can get a JL Audio HD series amp and almost any stock electrical system will be fine. Only the HD series though.
🔴How often should i charge my xs power agm battery for my car audio system
So what do you do about these new smart alternator charging systems? What I done since I doing daily driving is keeping my volume about mid way i have a bass 8k taramps on 2 massive xlr 12s in a large enclosure stock alternator with 400ah of reserves because on these smart alternators they won't charge but 12.5 volts until the ecm tells the alternator to charge unless i keep my headlights on no way around this unless I unplug the wire on the negative post so it will unregulated?
XS Power PS1200L or XS Power XP2000...??? Which is a good buy based on your advice with my setup?
Everstart 12V/800CCA base Batt
215amp Alt ~ SKAR 2000.1D Amp.
The only batteries I buy are dry cells. I beef up the alternator and I'm good to go. No lights dimming, I've never even needed to charge one, even when drained. I jump it and the alternator charges it back.
Why not use a Lithium battery? It less weight over the agm battery....
So is it the cranking amps or the cold cranking amps or amps an hour AH rating to go by to see what amp size I can use.
When u say never run wet cell with the agm is the wet cell the battery from part stores
What about amp efficiency ratings? Some drain more amps.
Question, Wat do you think about deaf bounce in general?
PRICELESS!!!!🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
So with having two battery's you say u got 260 alternator would it be good to go with even a bigger alternator like a 360 so u wouldnt have to put them on charger every week ?
Yes…but still slow charge them once a month
Aye bruh I appreciate the videos! I've learned a lot from you. Question: can I use a wet sealed battery for my start battery and agm for my audio if I use a isolater?
Yes
@@M.B.Enclosures what about the lithium batteries
@@dcaddell1505 I think so
@@dcaddell1505 can't you tell hes old school he ain't fucking with lithium
So considering my truck came with a 95ah alt, and ima say I use about 50ah for the vehicle. I just got a 320ah hot rated alt, so I have 270ah of excess to power my cab-22 and 250.4, I’m wondering your opinion on how it will behave until I can afford more backup as it has a 70ah lead upfront and a 35ah agm that’s directly to the amp
how do i add a secound battery
I’m running a Skar RP-1500.1 on 1 Skar 15” that is 1ohm stable, which battery should I choose
What's happening if you have a smart alternator.
So I got a 320 amp with two xs power d3400 with a skv2 3500.1 at .5 ohms it can push up to 5k so basically what I’m asking is will I be ok
Good vid, but u have to remember a 220 rating alternator don't come alive until them rpms rise. So 220 at idle u prolly only seeing 45 percent of 220 or so
Yea, you gotta rev it a bit and hopefully have a hairpin
recently I had purchased a Deka intimidator AGM battery 9A51P. labeled for a 300 cold cranking amps if I'm remembering correctly . I purchased it for my nephew's Prius and he destroyed the car within about 2 months of installing it. now I have a $200 battery sitting on my workbench not sure exactly what to do with it . not familiar with AGM batteries it's labeled as a dual purpose battery (start and deep cycle). can these batteries be utilized for something else besides a Prius? thanks
