It makes me sad that this is all over and long gone already All i can say is thank you for what you have done best motoring and Japan You guys are legends
Takes a lot of skill to throw a F1 around like that on the rain! Especially a car with no ABS and traction control. Reason why I love this channel so much, even though I understand almost nothing of Japanese HAHAHA
this was insane!! I know it sounds silly.. but im playing a lot Assetto Corsa which has really decent physics.. and the mclaren f1 is one of the hardest cars to drive.. really a diva which tends to kill u if ur not carefull. and i guess there is a reason why so many people crashed their F1 in real life. Still.. i need this car.
Nah the most iconic were the Porsche 959, the Ferrari F40 the Jaguar XJ220 and the Bugatti EB110...they all with McLaren F1 at top, were the hypercars of its Time
it could just be topped if they paired the F1 with an F40, F50, Diablo, Jaguar XJ220 and maybe in later episodes with the Carrera GT, Mclaren SLR, Lexus LFA and Bugatti Veyron :000
@@mr8I7 Ya like playing the original Japanese version of GT1 aside from the tracks it very much feels like a Best Motoring game. The US/European versions less so as things were changed slightly. It's a shame they never got Tskuba in the game until GT4 really.
doing the handling test of the S on the curved rain soaked road at speed is insane, especially nerve wracking watching them do it with the F1. Also, damn that F1 is so fast it spanked the 650hp Supra.
I still think the Mclaren F1 is the worlds greatest car in relation to the technology and material sciences available at the time. It’s like the moon landing of cars.
These guys look (clothing wise) like they came out of their office at Casio HQ to drive the hell out of these cars! Awesome video! 90's Japan was amazing!
I still love that car, even though there are much faster ones out there at this point in time. The design is absolutely marvelous, even if it shows some sign of aging. And the fact it doesn't supplement any help with turbos or superchargers feels more tempting. Sad that it's so sought after only a filthy-rich person can get hands on it.
McLaren F1: fastest car of the 20th century, but it was even more: Gordon Murray’s whole reason for retiring as Brabham F1 boss and taking Denis’ offer at McLaren. It was Murray’s “big bad NSX”, took Hondas philosophy yo the extreme. A super car that was downright comfortable to drive. He begged Honda on 2 occasions to supply the engine but they were post Soichiro Honda and would not agree to supply the engine. Murray’s impression of his own NSX and first its prototype was the direction for the F1.
It's so strange to see the F1 around these cars, today it worth around 20M and you can get an NSX for 100k, that's a 200x difference... if somebody would sell an F1, maybe more.
imo, the McLaren F1 is still the top mechanically engineered production car ever. The reason I say that is, the first production car to finally beat it was the Bugatti Veyron, and it had over 1,000HP. The McLaren F1 only had 550-600hp, and it dominated vehicles even in a drag race that vastly more power than it. The handling was top notch, and the center seating is original and one of a kind. It's a drivers car tho, with no electronic assists, meaning if you aren't a road course racer that can competently heel toe down shift, and brake late for corners properly, then you're not meant for a "drivers car". Most modern cars anyone can jump in and go fast with all the electronic assists (and people still crash them even with all the help they give)
How fitting. U could literally add the engine power from the NSX to the Ferrari to get the hp output of the Mclaren F1 ^^ but the Mclaren is still 400kg lighter then the Ferrari. And has less unsprung mass, way higher regidity and a superior seating position and aerodynamics. This car was the absolute pinnacle of its time and is still an engeneering masterpiece. If money was absolute irrelevant for me, i would get myself an F1. This raw mechanical monster is pure perfection.
agreed. i usually don't even like the sound of V12s, i find the aventador for example to have a very annoying sound. but that bmw v12 sounds like heaven.
Modern supercars don't excite me like the ones from this era did. To this day, I would become infinitely more excited over seeing a really mint 355 over say a 296 gtb. The cars had more should or passion or something. I don't know what it is. Everything is just fast as fug nowadays, but everything feels the same. Just another cool, fast car, but lacking whatever it was that used to give something like a Ferrari that bit of extra oopmh that elevated them over their competitors.
Mclaren F1 had top speed of 386 kmh (240 mph) and Veryron was only 21 kmh faster, or 13 mph. F1 had engine with 618 HP and Veyron 987 HP. F1 was built in 1992 and Veyron in 2005. Now, you tell me which one is more impressive... Even modern cars cant go that fast with only 618 HP.
not to mention the f1, in addition to being that fast in a straight line, was really built for cornering. it dominated in touring car championship races as well as winning the 24 hours of le mans. straight line speed wasn't even its forte and it excelled at it. (granted the racing versions had much shorter gears and a HDK, but it's still impressive) to this day, it is the fastest naturally aspirated car ever built, and given the trend of EVs and small displacement turbocharged engines today, it will probably hold that record for the rest of history. that is really something.
The opening scene and car introductions feel exactly like those in Gran Turismo: majestic and magnificent
