Those channels are there for a reason. So when the paper gasket fails the coolant follows the channel rather than entering the engine and mixing with the oil.
@@operationoverhaulI does except for water pump. They looked at it and said it looked like that was replaced already. It is fairly clean truck with 160k. Son bought it a couple months ago

Is this ranger a 4x4? I got the same problem and wanted to avoid pulling the motor for oil pan.
This was a 2wd ranger but this it can be removed the same way on the 4x4 without pulling the pan.
Shop quoted $2100 for this job on a 2000 ranger. Is that reasonable? Was thinking about trying it myself but not sure about it.
Does that include parts?
