💯, smoke is far from low tier @ higher levels. As a shang main myself (another underrated character) , players tend to rinse & repeat with basically no creativity at all..instead of exploring other options.. I use everyone & every Kameo - Smokes top kameos by far is - the buffed sektor [[ U can rocket convert if his down back 2 for easily 42%+ for no bar.. & the timing isn't strict ] Buffed sektor also allows u to restand / cancel the 2nd hit animation in the flame thrower and give great OTG pressure with a rocket. Scorpion cameo is really good for smoke bc you can combo off vicious vapors. The dmg is pretty solid too. Very useful to stop opponents from mashing and gives some pressure to letting it fly.
Day 1 Smoke. He is the noob killer. When you get up to God/Elder God, than he is low tier IMO. One wrong cancel when it's your turn can result in 40%. Having fun with the new Tremor/Smoke.

As a day one elder god smoke his damage is great but high tier KL is just a pain, armourable on everything, no mids for opponents wake-up so delayed armour/jumping is simple, a lot of effort for so much risk playing smoke
Try using different smoke combo starters to mix up opponents with vapor cancels. That Reptile in the beginning adapted to your play style, as you noticed he started up blocking because you mainly used f32 and b2 followed by a vapor cancel. Switching up with Smoke is important, since he has some of the best mix in the game (minus the small split second gaps between vapor cancels, keep in mind), and the last thing you want while playing Smoke is to be predictable.
my main team is smoke/scorpion. good air extensions, double overhead that is safe on block with back 2 + forward kameo, also easy ~50% damage combos with scorpion’s new self-immolation damage move
you can add smokes standing 3,2 multiple times in strings with khameleon. standing 3,2 can also cancel into other kameo assists and it is a great armor break tool. Also when you have mileena you can finish a combo with 1 EX tele reg tele into mileena knives then hit the up knife for great 1 bar damage. Also standing 212 into fan from kitana is a great combo extension.
Once again a banger vid. Also i feel like once you work out the average smoke gameplan hes and not get to intimidated by his Teleport cancels hes fine. But then again having to get used to that is no easy feat
As a cancel character at the high level after your cancels you block unless that player is respecting your cancels which is rare at a high level so uj block after cancels
@@Deadman_Elit3easy tip is low block close range and react to the overheads, mid to full screen stand block, as for his armour just learn the anti air in practice
His teleport is what gets me. He just throws it and sometimes it's an overhead other times, it's a cancel into vanish. And if the armor activates, it hits anyway. I know you can jump kick him or upblock it, but I dont know when.
@@Azteck9 his armour if you read if you can jump backwards and hit him every time, the Tele cancel into invis is negative so just take your turn back, still strongly suggest learning to anti air his invis, you can also bait the armour by hitting him when he armours with an attack that isn’t negative for your character and then blocking his armour to punish
I’m a smoke main I haven’t bought any of the cameos, personally I use Sonya IK it ain’t very good but I’ve beaten most of the smokes using other cameos
as a Quan main I can't agree that Smoke's low tier - he has a lot of good matchups and absolutely annihilates all of Quan's options. then again so does most of the cast...

Bro smoke tele cancel is the second most negative teleport cancel in the game even when EX. You can even hit them before they land. Nobody does it at high level cos it's useless
Man, these players were EXTREMELY bad for them to be in the top 900s, you would've destroyed them in a matter of seconds if you were playing with Scorpion lol
I dont think they were actually that high. In the previous one I beat a Nitara around rank 900-1000 and went up over 100 spots, so winning those and only going up 20 or so spots is pretty telling

Bro you can win rounds just by turning invisible. This ability + the mix up is so strong of course he needs some other flaws. You have so many ways to set up invisibility too.

Best bet is Motaro at the moment cause it plays like MK11 Scorpion. B3 into ground flames. On hit you teleport normal for the combo, on block you far Motaro teleport!
In my opinion I think smoke is one of the most balanced characters in the game. He’s got good damage, 50/50s, unlimited cancels, invisibility and good pressure. I get the frustration if you’re playing someone good and they know how to block all his moves. I just think he’s not bottom tier nor is he top tier.
I never comment but im top 300 and have mained smoke and khameleon since the game dropped. They are good but smokes still desperately needs buffs. He has no mid and there is no reason for it. You have to use the over head to whiff punish and it is very slow on start up. Invis is very useful when you can see the smoke puff everytime I do a cancel. His recent buff allows him to combo off of 1 1 but it is almost impossible to hit confirm because the inputs are so long and its such a short window. FUCK this game.
My fav is jax with smoke havnt really tried competitively with the others. Altho been using ferra lately been nice to have the extra mix up to catch put the up blockers
Got to rank 420 with only Smoke and Sareena somehow. I will always feel that he has the best mixups in the entire game because of smoke cancels. They are so unique and no other character (other than maybe Ashrah) has anything remotely like it. I will always think smoke is S tier
I have to say I prefer scorpion kameo with smoke he can convert into all the things khameleon can without worrying about which phase she is in on some of them while also doing 400 percent for only one bar the only thing khameleon has is the air knife move conversion and grab combo plus scorpion doesn’t take away health either
my main is smoke mavado bcuz mavodo can combo off of legit every smoke move and all convertions give me 30-40% combos no sweat.example. back 2.4.3 into mavdo slam then comand grab string into ex smoke port combo for 45%
As some who play smoke a good bit cyrax is good but ferra and sector are very good and probably his top tier teams any team where he can convert off of B F 3 is good and also keep moves safe like sector or you can yolo teleport into intsa ferra overhead try it out se what you like
I think smoke is low tier because if your opponent has eyes they will upblock the f32 every single time for instance i played kasuals yesterday against this kitana and i was doing everything i could to bait the upblock but since f32 is 24 frames its very reactable same with B2 its very reactable and something i won't understand is why when i do B2 i get hit mid move like 30% of the time for full combos its stupid and also i will say i do run scorpion smoke because i feel that's the best option for me
Scorpion thrives on distance control, sub controls through his own predictability being manipulated by ice clone. Reptile never lets someone get tight on him which makes his whiff punish and repversals amazing and smoke is someone that’s wants to keep his opponent in his own center of gravity. Once you get a outside or Birds Eye view on smokes people he’s doomed so you always wanna stay in the same room as the opponent if that makes sense. Reptile in my mind is the opposite of that concept but at the same time still rush down. He can break momentum of self and opponent and not be trapped in the corner. Sub gets trapped when his ice clone is felt and accounted. Same with scorpion when you can too close and his spear turns to a slow up close combo starter. Don’t really know how to word this but pressure is something each of the 4 use fundamentally different and not adjusting that can make a character play bad
Reptile can back out of any moment creating outside the moment pressure knowing something back could happen any moment where smoke pressure is in the moment. It’s in the heat of the attack rather than what lays just beyond it. Reps cancels and dash make back end pressure or false starts where smokes cancels are in the midst of his own attack. His overhead needs to be faster cuz it be hard to find smoke a chance to really get it sometimes
You can still play people far below you in rank, as MK1 prioritizes connection quality and Kombat league rank above MMR rank. You just obviously get less ELO rating points. Look up “ELO rating chess explained” and that will give you a great idea at how MK1’s works (:
Im a smoke main😢 he's pretty decent with sektor,ferra,frost but I feel like he does have some weird gaps that are really readable overall I don't think he's that great
Day 1, every season elder god here. I use Sub kameo for smoke. When you get a hit confirm you freeze the opp. and use EX smoke bomb, than you get a free reset and it's true 50/50. Smoke is B tier, all you have to do is poke out of the cancels and poke the overhead and up block the low overhead string and up block the overhead and every string has a gap. Against other characters this just isn't fair
@@_t_7583no, as a smoke main he’s definitely A tier. A good Smoke knows when to block on cancel to punish D1s or to EX VV to steal your turn back. And paired with the right kameo you can get guaranteed invis set ups and actually just dominate matches. I went on a 33 win streak in KOTH using smoke/janet earlier today
Smoke is one of the most downplayed characters in the game, he literally has 3 instant teleports and one of them phases through projectiles, he is the only character who has good synergy with whatever kameo is out there, has good damage, can go instant invisible that last awhile and doesn't go away if getting hit while blocking (like reptile), some of his cancels are safe, and the devs gave him every low and overhead strings in the gave so if he goes invisible it's basically GGs. ONE OF THE MOST DOWNPLAYED EVER
Trust that I feel this way… Until I start using him and feel his tougher matchups myself. Weird character overall. No mid, bad armor, and slow high attacks + lots of gaps/punish’s…. Yet invisibility can single handedly win a round.
@@Diff If you pair smoke up with sektor, kung lao, kano, SONYA, DARRIUS, and TREMOR, you have one of the most braindead teams ever, I have used smoke with darrius and the synergy, mix ups, and set ups are just completely wild, you can go non stop invisible, especially with tremor. Trust me try these teams and you'll realize exactly why I think smoke is brain dead as could be
@@Icybo7I'm elder god and i can assure you smoke sucks lol, if he had less gaps then maybe he would have a fighting chance at the highest level. also him going invisible doesn't matter, the overhead has a sound cue so you can block it everytime, when he goes invisible just crouch block and react to the sound of the overhead. The only real threat he has when he goes invisible is the chip damage with kameos like sektor and his throw game.
Definitely low tier. He's arguably the worst character in the game honestly. He's easily bottom 5 and I'd put him around the same spot I put Havik. All of his cancels are fake and his mix is very easy to deal with cause he's got only one overhead and it's slower than anything at 28 frames, meaning you can block him with ease and interrupt his cancels very easily. Another thing is that he also has a ridiculous amount of gaps, basically every string has gaps, which makes him extremely weak against characters with powerful armor that start combos like Tanya, Kung Lao, Ermac, ETC The only thing he has going for him is his armor because it's very free to use and the invisibility set ups can actually be nasty with that move. Which is why I think his best Kameo is either Sektor or Kung Lao to set up the invisibility. But overall this character has veey mediocre mix, decent damage at best as his high damage is locked behind spending a ton of bar, too many gaps making him easy to interrupt, and mediocre frame data. So I'd definitely say he's like bottom 3 for sure With the bottom 3 being Havik, Smoke and Shang Tsung He's an online merchant and noob destroyer but he's trash overall
For smoke, if your looking for more mechanical. Then go cyrax. Get a conversion off of b234. Call cyrax when b23 hits. Or if your looking for damage, then run smoke tremor.

I swear when I play I get matched against smurfs and absolute savage players who are flawless blocking and micro-ducking everything calling out EVERY single cancel. And the Smoke player you bumped into was horrible 😂 absolutely DONT watch that guy

His mixups are garbage and the cancels are useless since your turn ends once you do it, and you have no way to cancel back. You’re just fighting bots

Day 1, every season elder god here. I use Sub kameo for smoke. When you get a hit confirm you freeze the opp. and use EX smoke bomb, than you get a free reset and it's true 50/50. Smoke isn't low tier, he's A at least. His cancels, overhead, low starters are to good. Pair him up with the right kameo, 40% meter less combos
This is the comment! Smoke has so much he carries most of these guys to wins. Until they get put against better competition, then it just becomes a skill issue. Smoke is great.

Smoke is B tier, all you have to do is poke out of the cancels and poke the overhead and up block the low overhead string and up block the overhead and every string has a gap. Against other characters this just isn't fair
@@_t_7583no, as a smoke main he’s definitely A tier. A good Smoke knows when to block on cancel to punish D1s or to EX VV to steal your turn back. And paired with the right kameo you can get guaranteed invis set ups and actually just dominate matches. I went on a 33 win streak in KOTH using smoke/janet earlier today

Smoke is one of the most downplayed characters in the game, he literally has 3 instant teleports and one of them phases through projectiles, he is the only character who has good synergy with whatever kameo is out there, has good damage, can go instant invisible that last awhile and doesn't go away if getting hit while blocking (like reptile), some of his cancels are safe, and the devs gave him every low and overhead strings in the gave so if he goes invisible it's basically GGs. ONE OF THE MOST DOWNPLAYED EVER
Trust that I feel this way… Until I start using him and feel his tougher matchups myself. Weird character overall. No mid, bad armor, and slow high attacks + lots of gaps/punish’s…. Yet invisibility can single handedly win a round.
@@Diff If you pair smoke up with sektor, kung lao, kano, SONYA, DARRIUS, and TREMOR, you have one of the most braindead teams ever, I have used smoke with darrius and the synergy, mix ups, and set ups are just completely wild, you can go non stop invisible, especially with tremor. Trust me try these teams and you'll realize exactly why I think smoke is brain dead as could be
@@Icybo7I'm elder god and i can assure you smoke sucks lol, if he had less gaps then maybe he would have a fighting chance at the highest level.
also him going invisible doesn't matter, the overhead has a sound cue so you can block it everytime, when he goes invisible just crouch block and react to the sound of the overhead. The only real threat he has when he goes invisible is the chip damage with kameos like sektor and his throw game.

Definitely low tier.
He's arguably the worst character in the game honestly.
He's easily bottom 5 and I'd put him around the same spot I put Havik.
All of his cancels are fake and his mix is very easy to deal with cause he's got only one overhead and it's slower than anything at 28 frames, meaning you can block him with ease and interrupt his cancels very easily.
Another thing is that he also has a ridiculous amount of gaps, basically every string has gaps, which makes him extremely weak against characters with powerful armor that start combos like Tanya, Kung Lao, Ermac, ETC
The only thing he has going for him is his armor because it's very free to use and the invisibility set ups can actually be nasty with that move.
Which is why I think his best Kameo is either Sektor or Kung Lao to set up the invisibility.
But overall this character has veey mediocre mix, decent damage at best as his high damage is locked behind spending a ton of bar, too many gaps making him easy to interrupt, and mediocre frame data.
So I'd definitely say he's like bottom 3 for sure
With the bottom 3 being Havik, Smoke and Shang Tsung

For smoke, if your looking for more mechanical. Then go cyrax. Get a conversion off of b234. Call cyrax when b23 hits. Or if your looking for damage, then run smoke tremor.
And for the optimal corner combo meter drain for cyrax, you go f32, vv cancel, 32, 32, f12 1+3, b+k, fj3, db2.
You'll jump over the opponent, land the kick, throw the invis smoke, reset, since and repeat.
And don't always do f32. Stagger it always during invis. Catches people off guard. Don't use 212 unless set up off khameleon.
