I had always wanted to try a monochrome camera, and thanks to James from Snappiness, I just did! Check out James' video: • My Custom Pentax K-5II... And Ali's: • Pentax K5II Monochrome...
Agree totally! I love BW, I still shoot film! So investing in new camera, not reqd. I use old Minolta Digital, with CCD sensor, locked in Monochrome. Looks exactly like film! Bravo Pentax!
Monochrome mode on a regular camera is a conversion from an RGB image. The camera still uses an RGB filter array in front of the sensor, and interpolates to get all values. With a real monochrome camera that doesn't have this filter, you get about twice the resolution.
that is, let me understand Pentax has announced to make a monochrome and in reality someone has already created it? here in Italy we are going crazy everyone wants it there would be a large slice of people would buy it with their eyes closed. Pentax are fools!
Check out James' and Ali's videos for more details about this conversion (links in the description). It was done by someone in Lithuania, I am not sure if he does it as a service or if it was a one-off.

Great video as always! Enjoyed the monochrome pictures. Saludos, Juan!
for conversions to monochrome ask me: All GR APS-C and many Pentax DSLRs including K-1
Nice camera, nice review. I think I will stick with adjusting my settings as you point out ;)
Loved seeing your take on the camera
Why ? Digital cameras have a monochrome setting built in.
