Rich, i can’t lie. I watched it, i didn’t even hate watch it. I genuinely enjoyed watching it. CG can be off looking at times but the actors portrayals, especially Luffy and Usopp, really make it feel like One Piece.
@@zoovaado7759 he is the underdog of the straw hats, and he becames one of the favourites for a a lot of people later on in the story. Jacob nailed the role SO much, but the character is exactly who it should be at this point of the series
@@zoovaado7759 even with those moments in, this is not the time in the story when Usopp becomes really popular with the fanbase. I think the show did a good job with him, but we will see a lot more on the next seasons
Garp wasnt just testing luffy. He was testing Helmeppo and Koby by using Luffy. He always knew Koby liked his grandson, and played the ruthless pirate hunter to see if koby followed his own justice. Garp wanted the next generation not to be 100% loyal to the world government
oh that makes sense. But I also understand kylers perspective bc I didn't like the garp arc tho I liked the coby and helmeppo character development, the garp marine thing could of been executed way better or taken out. But your perspective makes me accept it better!
@@NoOne-ky1erIt's not really mental gymnastics, it's pretty obvious. I don't understand how people could miss that Garp is clearly playing the mentor roll for koby.
This is by far my favourite adaptation of Sanji by far, no disrespect to the OG VA. The heart of the character without the perv gag a joy to watch. It also seems like it his paralells with Luffy, and a secondary role as an advisor to his captain (as Sanji arguably has the most experience with pirate culture and the ways of piracy, it does make sense).
Yeah as someone who has never read or watched one piece, hearing that Sanji was supposed to be a "ladies man", I wholeheartedly appreciated that the character here simply seems to appreciate women. I can't root for a creep, lol.
@@elliottvaughn700 He isn't a creep in the anime... he is more aggressive but he doesn't physically do anything to any woman, he just talks to them in flirtatious or sometimes sexual ways, its not like he just harasses woman nonstop through the anime or something. He also would die protecting Nami or Robin or any woman really, cooks them food, takes care of anything they ask for, etc. so he is endearing in that way.
I think one good example of how well the characters are represented in this live action was how Luffy wasn't portrayed as an idiot. Inaki understands that Luffy is reckless and simple minded but isn't stupid. He has genuinely very clever and creative moments in this show especially with how he fights or moments like how he hid the map from Buggy by using his rubber body. Live action adaptations tend to not really understand the characters. They only understand what trope they fall under then overplay that one trope with zero nuance.
Apart from fight iq, he is dumb. He fight Zoro because Zoro was killing people who fed Luffy. No space for argument and reasoning. Luffy wears afro to outbox Foxy. His logics are bad. Can't understand long sentences.
Entire casting team for the show deserves a huge raise, and that's just for finding Inaki Godoy. It's always very refreshing to see someone's love of a character show on screen.
I disagree about moving Zoro's backstory to the same episode as the Mihawk fight. A huge benefit of putting it where it was is that we could focus on it. Zoro struggling to get out of the well wasn't visually busy, which helped two things: it made the stuff going on at Kaya's home more tense (because they aren't getting help immediately) and it also let us focus on Zoro's backstory and understand it before the Mihawk fight. If the backstory was pushed back, it would have been too much going on visually at the same time, too fast, and both the backstory and the Mihawk fight would have suffered. Kobi getting more screentime was also thematically useful because he and Luffy have contrasting goals but similar idealistic views of what the world could be.
Plus, like another comment said, putting his backstory during the climb out of the well goes along with what Mihawk said about him being a frog in a well. Not knowing that the world is bigger than he realizes.
i like your theory! although i think that matchcuting a fight for storytelling purposes without making it visually jarring is possible, i've honestly only seen that technique used in animation (ej, obito and kakashi, Jinx and Ekko, no diggity scene in TNMT), so idk how would that be translated on live action.
Yeah, I think the backstory was in a good spot. It fed into the scene of him getting out of the well while also allowing for focus to go elsewhere. And it let the Mihawk fight breathe more. We already understood Zoro even when Nami was trying to get him not to take on the fight. At the very least it's in a better spot than it was in the anime. Just a random backstory just slapped in the middle of nowhere while they were traveling.
I am absolutely not getting mad at you for pointing out that we don't get bonding moments between the crew anymore and how awesome it was to see them 'just' hang out and bond. My favorite is when they mock Nami for Sanji's flirt attack and she just goes: 'You guys are the worst' but in an adoring way. I really hope they keep bringing these in the live action because those are the most fun to watch and I wish the manga had more of them.
I think you're tuning out of many of the marine moments caused you to not really connect some of the dots. Garp wasn't originally chasing Luffy just to test him. His conversations with Koby and Zeff about who Luffy is as a person and letting him be himself are definitely what made Garp test Luffy's ambition instead of forcing him our of piracy. It's pretty easy to miss if you don't like the scenes but it's a pretty vital part of the story with them. I also will say that the backstory being interlaced will the well was definitely a visual metaphpor for Zoro failing to overcome Kuina and keep trying. Eventually his motivation to succeed is how he eventually overcomes his challenges. I believe the well is also a replacement for the hill with oil on it in syrup village that he eventually was able to make it up.
Zoro in the well was referencing to Mihawk saying that he is a frog in a well and that the world is bigger than what he knows, which was clever to include, but I think the flashback and scene might be misplaced. I felt there should have been more focus on Ussop in his own arc. Having two backstories in the same arc kinda collided for the spotlight and Ussop needed a defining moment especially without Jango
I really loved how "different" Alrong's theme was from everything else, as they are meant to be this other. Especially like their party scene where they're grooving out to it, Arlong draped over his chair like a kingpin. They have their own thing going on, and they embrace it to spite a bloody, tragic history.
Mihawk called zorro a "frog in a well" during their fight. Zorro climbing out of the well was the beginning of him persuing his dream. At the beginning of the story he was comfortable being the stronges pirate hunter in the east blue, not truly persuing his goal. As soon as he climbed out of the well he started seeing the vastness this world had to offer, which was followed by his crushing defeat against mihawk as his first oponnent after "trying". Atleast thats my guess why they put in his flashback there, the well was more like a visualized metaphor.
I love their addition with the marines side. One of the most important aspects in the manga is that it happens in (almost) an end of era that is so messed up era where everything is not black and white, and all sides have bad and good ppl on it. The addition set up really well to gradually unveil this rotten world structure without adding too many episodes just to explain that (eg. it explains the warlord system smoothly and introduce Mihawk to the game) and also give viewers a more balanced view than it did in the manga about two sides (or actually more than 2 sides but we might get that later). Also, the talk abt old and new generation is also good addition as we know now that this is a new era, new generation that we get to explore.
The payoff comes next season when Smoker chases them for real. It's cool to introduce the marines and the world government early and give the whole story some scale. Besides b-plots are a must, that's just a tv trope
I’m surprisingly very happy with what we got. I especially loved Buggy. It’s funny to see a dude from Agents of Shield here, but I’m not complaining at all. He was great!
For the Marines, I've heard the inclusion of that story was more of a tactical necessity than an artistic choice really. They needed a group chasing the strawhats for tension, to move the plot, AND most importantly to reuse some of these super expensive sets. I think its something we should expect from future seasons too. All of this first season happened on a few very detailed and well realized locations.
Garp and the Marines are still the worst part of the TV shows. Hopefully we don't see them next season. We only need Smoker and Tashigi. I really love Koby but we can wait for him.
@@CosmoLav Smoker and Tashigi (and also Ace) could easily serve the same purpose of reusing sets next season, and later seasons probably won’t need quite as many locations anyway
Showrunners said if this gets a 7/10 they will be delighted. Now given the praise and feedback they got, hope Netflix was delighted as well for another season.
Zoro is the Frog in the Well. That's a metaphor from the manga and anime that they've used and that's also mentioned by Mihawk in the live action. I do think they should have cut back to the scene of him climbing out of the well to make that more clear, though. And the well should have been SOOOO much deeper and more dangerous, or had him bleeding from the head.
3:52 honestly same. Taz did so good. And I really do want to see what Taz will do. Also, I love Helmeppo's actor. He really made Helmeppo likeable. So did his lines but the actor did great. And I don't even need to explain Buggy. Mihawk was more badass than his 1st debut too. The cast were indeed well casted.
I love the scenes with the strawhats hanging out at baratie especially with zoro and nami playing a drinking game, as well the arlong park pool party that kind of stuff makes me really immersed in the world it’s cool.
To furthur contrast and up the praise re: the sets, One Piece is over here kicking the rest of Hollywood's entire ass when it comes to set design. Disney/Marvel especially is so addicted to time crunched CGI/VFX and so unwilling to pay skilled craftsmen that they won't even build basic room sets anymore, they just shove actors in front of a greenscreen and it looks terrible. Meanwhile Netflix out here building an entire Baratie from scratch and it looks GORGEOUS and the show feels so much more real for it.
I wasn’t familiar with the original manga so I went into this blind with no expectations and…..loved it! I was hooked straight away and just wanted to keep watching as I grew to really care about each character. Loved the back story of each character (especially Sanji and Nami’s) and I could really see the chemistry between the whole cast. The villains were really well cast too (my favourite being Mihawk) and you can tell everyone had a blast filming this. Can’t wait for season 2!
Next season will likely to introduce 2 new crewmates, they did the original 5 so well I’m really curious to see their versions of the later ones - especially since most of the crewmates they recruit in the Grand Line aren’t human
10:27 When I saw that, I burst out laughing and rewatched like ten times. One of the funniest gags on the show. They gotta have more of those next season.
With regards to Zorro's character history being introduced when he is climbing up the well. The writers probably didn't want to introduce Sanji and his story while also having all of Zorro's history being laid out when he has the duel. That's why it was included in the prior episode because that context was needed before the duel. I don't think it would flow that well to have flashbacks from both characters in the same episode.
im a helmeppo fan now, fucking loved the dude. want more of him. i just hope that matt, the producer, listens to criticism. i want an even better adaption of course :)
You may not like the close up shots but, the reason some shots are wider is because the it helps the weaker actors look better. This close ups and the actors were so well casted that it worked, and to me quite well. Every single visual, audio, and musical choice to me in One Piece LA felt unapologetically on purpose and I loved it!
It’s understandable the series wasn’t perfect, nothing is ever perfect, but it had a lot of heart and dedication to present the story in a new way but maintaining the same essence that made the manga so lovable. I agree that they do have some things to improve on such as the dialogue in some scenes (omit for subtlety or rewrite for better realism/believability). A bigger budget would be very helpful for the action scenes, seeing people jumping/flying across the room without looking like they’re on a harness. I loved the makeup on the fishmen, but with more money they could’ve made them even cooler like Thanos-level quality. And they should definitely increase the number of episodes to 10 in order to have deeper character interactions and development.
I’m only on episode 3 and I already LOVE IT. While watching the original one piece I skipped a lot of the arcs in east blue like syrup village or the Baratie arc because I thought those arcs were very long. And now here I am in arlong park and I don’t get wtf is going on. I started watching the one piece live action so that I can catch up on all the arcs I’ve missed and you know what? It’s going great so far, I understand the story and characters a lot more and I finally know wtf is the grand line. This is definitely one of the best live action adaptations for anything I have seen for a very long time and I’m very proud of Oda-sensei.
you skipped the baratie????? man, rule number one in one piece is don't skip shit that is canon (and some filler is great), and for a very good reason. in one piece everything is deeply interconnected and interlinked (foreshadowing) even if it does not appear that way in the beginning - this is one of the most important aspects of this series that truly takes it far above other shonens - its forethought! PS: one piece loves bringing back past characters, by missing various arcs, you'll be stumbling in confusion aplenty.
@@Alexandroslav Ik, IM SO SORRY I SKIPPED BARATIE 😭 But that’s why I’m watching the live action, it’s to make up and catch up on all the arc I skipped and missed
Nice video. The set designs are so beautiful. And the music is done very well. Sonia Belousova did a great job with composing this. From using Bink's Booze this early in the series and using different instruments to further characterize the main cast, like Buggy's theme sounding like something out of a carnival or Sanji's swing tracks. Just really good stuff.
15:07 OMG finally someone pointing out the awkward cuts in the Arlong scene it was SOOOOO jarring! like his lips don't even sync with the audio sometimes and i was like what is this???? 14:02 IF we ever do get S2, can we tone down the TOO close up shots please the actors look GREAT, give their visage justice on cam! Also, some of the obviously green screened scenes were too obvious 😂. Literally these are my main gripes on the show. Everything else I loved and found acceptable.
I didn't have issue with zoro back story placement. I feel like it was showing us why he was desperate to get out of the well, not die and keep his promise.
I actually really loved the camera work in this; I thought it emphasized the tone well. The show is very reminiscent of older camp movies, to me. A lovechild somewhere among Sam Raimi's Army of Darkness, The NeverEnding Story, and 90s Saban shows, that somehow all works.
I definitely agree about the cinematography, I know only as much as the next guy about editing and camerawork but it did feel jarring. When they first started using the close ups I legitimately thought it was building up to something spooky. I verbally asked "why are they doing this?" multiple times. I did get used to it and filter out past episode 2, but I hope they drop it in season 2.
Yeah I'm not a big fan of closeup camera work. The prequels for Star Wars abused those too, so did the Matrix sequels. Thank goodness the action in One Piece is the opposite of closeup cinematography and had some amazing wide shots and long takes.
That's one of the cons that few people point out, overuse of fish eye lens/ close ups. However there is also excelent camera work, like the action sequences that aren't cut and blurred. This was because all the actors trained and did their own action sequences and stunts, that shows how much these actors loved and tried to bring to life their manga/anime counterparts. On the action sequences, for season 2, maybe they should improve prop quality, during Morgan fight vs Luffy and Zoro we actually see Wado Ichimonji bending like a plastic sword when Zoro rolls on the ground. That shit can't fly by on s2
They did not miss anything, those missing moments you criticized are which makes the fans want more for a season 2, they teased it so much I even binge watching the anime versions!
I love the twist where Garp follows Luffy throughout the entire season, only to test him in the end. This twist is particularly intriguing because, at the beginning of the episode, there's a hint that Garp and Gold Roger were somewhat close acquaintances at one point, and Garp doesn't want his grandson to meet the same fate. Garp mentioned that he had repeatedly declined the position of Fleet Admiral because he didn't want to conform to the government's ways. This foreshadows the future encounters of Luffy and his crew with marines who won't hold back against them. If you've been following the anime, you've likely noticed that marines like Smoker, the CP9, and even Admiral Kizaru have shown no restraint in pursuing the Straw Hat crew. Kudos to Oda for introducing Garp early in the show, as it sets the stage for the intense conflicts that are bound to unfold in the upcoming seasons. My speculation for the second season is that it will revolve around the Loguetown, Drum Island, and Alabasta (Baroque Works) Arcs, and I couldn't be more thrilled. My other speculations Season 3 - Sky Island, Water 7 and Ennies Lobby Arc Season 4 - Thriller Barc, Shabondy Archipelago and Amazon Lily Arc Season 5 - Impel Down and Marineford War Arc
I watched it, it's the Best Live Action I'd say. Marvelous Cinematic Experience and an emotional rollercoaster. Casting is great as well. I loved it. 💯
I loved it! As someone who never watched the Anime, it has made me watch it. I'm currently on episode 70 and can't stop watching, lol. I think this will engage a lot more people into the genre and One Piece franchise as a whole ❤
hey bud, absolutely LOVE the video. just had a question, are we going to see a Chuma Okeke update video? last time you spoke about him was back in 2020, the viewers deserve an update. also, you promised us a demon slayer in the boruto-verse power scaling video back in 2021 and it’s damn near 2025. these are all unfulfilled promises from you. if you keep this up, i’m afraid i’m gonna have to uncheck the bell icon for your notifications. also whenever i DO see your notifications, i start feeling so loose and h-word… do i have issues? anyways wonderful video!
I absolutely loved the show, but ofc, it had its issues. A 7.5-8/10 for me. For the marine’s story line, I wish we saw parts of it, and then we and the crew find out Garp was Luffy’s grandpa in the last episode (similar to Post Enies lobby) and it would work better, and give more time to the story. Also, as for pacing, it was originally supposed to be 10 episodes, but it got cut down to 8, so maybe having 10 episodes (or spreading out the time from those 2 episodes to the existing 8) would have help the pacing. Also, the closeup camera shots have to be less frequent. It only works for me in a couple of the spots it’s used, but in the other places it’s awkward. I just hope they learn the right lessons from this season for season 2.
Personally I didn't mind Zoro's back story where it was placed. We get to see Zoro struggling to get out of the well. I got the sense that it was a life or death situation and the conclusion was "I can't die here, not until I become the strongest swordman" And I don't think the next episode would have benefited from this specific flashback honestly. It needed time to introduce Sanji and I think it was important for us to know Zoro's motivation before the fight with Mihawk so we don't interrupt the fight and break tension As far as the script goes, considering the source material, I think the team did a brilliant job
I remember when I first heard about it, and when I heard they wouldn't release it until Oda gave the green light I knew it would be at least good. Ever since then I tried to fight all the hate people gave basically just telling them to watch it and now everyone I know that ended up watching it ended up liking it, anime watchers or not.
I like this review, not too overly positive but not nitpicky with the negatives, i like it, and I agree with a lot of the points brought up. The pacing and editing was a little wonky, but overall it wasn't terrible. And at the end of the day, Oda oversaw it and if at least he's happy, i can accept it.
Oh that’s so funny bc I loved the weird fish eye lense effect. I thought it was really unique and fun. 😂 my only issue was that American Horror Story used to use like diagonal shots a lot so I associate those angles to a feeling of unease and suspense and that did affect how I felt about some of those. But over all I did like the funky cinematography.
Apparently (I think Marc Jobst or Steven Maeda mentioned this), they had special lens made to that would allow close ups while still showing the background.
I sensed the reason for the trap type beat when the fishmen were on seen to make them relate to black culture in real life to further send the oppressed message, thats my opinion. And I liked the blurred out background close shots it added some charm for me.
My husband is a big fan of the anime and has been watching it since it began. I could never get past the art style, as much as I enjoy anime. That said, we both really loved this show. I was so glad.
The fish eye lenses as you said is clearly a choice. I've seen some people like it, some don't. Personally I couldn't care less, I don't think it looks remotely bad, definitely didn't bother me. The cuts in the Arlong scene similarly wasn't "wonky", it was a choice. It's extremely noticeable, it's not just cause you're a RUclipsr. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to make it more intense, maybe jarring too (intentionally), or something like that. I also don't dislike this one either. Also, I think they placed Zoro's flashback where it is because that's where they found the time to do it. For better or worse (though maybe it's mostly for the worst).
Yeah, I fully understand his complaint about the Zoro flashback timing, though I didn't have an issue with it myself. Him mentioning it though I can't disagree with his logic behind it, but maybe it would have made the Mihawk fight/episode too long so they shifted it to episode 4 to keep things more even timewise.
Placing the backstory in the middle of the mihawk fight would have fucking blown. You don't fuck that fight up, it was beautiful and if you dice it up with fucking backstory you turn it into an uninteresting fight. And you need the backstory prior to the fight or you don't understand why he is fighting. And the backstory is placed down the well because he dies if he doesn't get out of the well, thus failing to fulfill his promise. Yall are dumb.
@@KanrielThat scene of the well, as well as the flashback within actually have a purpose, especially if you add what Mihawk said to him in the next episode; that Zoro was a frog in a well, not realizing that the world is bigger than he knows. 1st) Zoro is overcoming an obstacle, as we learn of his promise, which would require overcoming obstacles. 2nd) We learn of his promise to be the world's greatest swordsman at a time that the character and the audience don't realize how hard it will be. In other words Zoro didn't know at the time of that promise that the world is bigger than he knows. So the scene in the well gives that promise a sense poetic irony.
Your the only one with the same wide lens critique i had. They needed more high mm long zoom shots for the faces so uts more epic looking. Less selfie camera looking.
The best thing about Zoro and Sanji is that Sanji figured out what happened to Zoro during the end of the Moria saga, and kept it to himself (apart from Robin dropping eaves). He looked out for Zoro during the confrontation with Kizaru, always concerned about his welfare during that time.
I like that luffy's grandfather is more involved in The story because he's literally luffy's family but I believe after this season we won't see much of him or cobe anymore
as a big fan of one piece 2 decade ago, even i watched the east blue saga a long time ago, they still did a great work!!!, i hope they can make season 2, they don't need to make live adaptation in the same scene in the anime, they don't need to copy the same usopp nose, i don't want them to ruin it, they did good real adaptation, no cricits can change my mind whatever they say.
Another youtuber review said he didn't like Sanji and some of the other characters portrayals but i agree with this guy. It has to be a lil more grounded. I liked it overall even tho they changed alot of things they kept the most important stuff to the source material
I watched it expecting to laugh at it and hate it and was surprised that i honestly enjoyed it. of course i don't think it's perfect but we are talking about adapting one piece here, they did a pretty good job.
I liked everything but the only part that didn't fit was how fast Sanji joined the crew and instantly acted like he belonged there but then again it's live action and the Don krieg stuff didn't happen which really helped Sanji with his story.
I STRONGLY AGREE WITH YOU ON SANJI AND NAMI! I loved Sanji more because of this show honestly and is kinda cringed with Mackenyu's acting (pertaining to when he was defeated by Mihawk). He's so good when he's in action tho but he gotta improve his acting tbh.
This has no merit as I legit just found you but you should do more of these kinds of videos, they seem to work very well with your humour and your energy. 💯❤️
Agree! My friend who isn't a big anime fan enjoyed it alot more than me. He loves Hook & the 1st 3 Pirates of the Caribbean films so it kinda makes sense. Since you've already checked out the Rurouni Kenshin films, here's other live action manga adaptations I'd recommend. Some are great & others very decent :) 1. Oldboy 2003 2. Ichi the killer 3. Alice in Borderland show 4. Lone wolf & cub films 5. Lady snowblood 1&2 6. Blade of the immortal 7. Crying freeman 8. Guyver: Dark hero 9. City hunter 10. Azumi
I've watched OPLA 4+ times now, probably caught much more than you at this point, still a 9/10 for me with lots of room to improve still but this was their first go at it and they've done a phenomenal job, I think you might be disregarding their hardships in creating this show. I'm glad to say that your negatives aren't even a negative for me XD I for one loved their close-up ethereal shots etc. It's all about creating exactly the feel that you had, the thing is they didn't quite work on you and that's OK XP As for other plot points, I don't know how much of the Manga/Anime you've seen or understand but the marine side of things is quite relevant.
I have read the entire manga dude lmao. The marine stuff is not as relevant as you’re saying it is. You can disagree if you want. I don’t really care, but don’t resort to the stupid “Oh you probably just don’t understand it” response just because I found their presence annoying. People working on the show even said Oda himself didn’t like their involvement and needed heavy convincing to allow it in the show. I’m not the only one who disliked this change 👍
I agree the Marines took a bit too much screen time, and I think a lot of the issues with the pacing and character backstories could've been solved if we just shortened their involvement. That said, Garp didn't do ALL of that just to test Luffy, he was indeed originally planing to capture him and, either try again to make him a Marine, or just send him to prison, it was only at the end that he decided to fight him to 'test' him, to see if he was really on par with his ambitions.
Zoro back story in the well, it was their attempt to be smart, for when mihawk says he is a frog in a well, while he had flashbacks about his past being stuck in a well. They were trying to be clever haha 😂
I went into the show not knowing anything about it and I didn’t see the anime or manga. So I’m one of those new people…I really enjoyed it. To me it was a 10/10. Some of the gripes you had I actually liked…like those camera angles and the arlongs theme beat. I also liked the marines story and it didn’t feel like they were forced into plots. I may agree with you though that the swordsman’s backstory may have been better placed (maybe) and that more episodes or time could help pace things slower (but probably because I want to watch more of the show!).
You are missing the point. All the marine scenes are there so they don’t have to do it during the marine ford arc. They are probably doing it to focus more on marine ford and saving robin. This is for to not show it in season three. I think season two is going all the way up to defeat of crocodile. Season three is going all the way up to saving robin and season four will be all the way to the time skip.
I dont think Garp was testing Luffy. I believe at one point, he really wanted to arrest his grandson to stop his ambition of being a pirate. But he had a change of heart halfway so he made it appear he was just testing him.
I'm someone who has not read the manga or seen the anime. The live action is my only OP exposure. I have no idea how it differs from the source material. The marines storyline didn't feel shoehorned in to me. The fight between Garp and Luffy was weird though.
This is the new standard for any live action adaptation, I really hope that they don’t repeat their same mistakes and fuck up other adaptations but perhaps it is for the best other ones aren’t made. The series itself is amazing and a solid 4/5!! All the actors lived up to their portrayals and it was all masterfully edited and written quite well! I’m enjoying it really well and can’t wait for season 2, hope Chopper and Robin will be adapted just as well as the other straw hats ( ◠‿◠ )
They got rid of the yellow piss filter , yay! Had a smile on my face alot, my negative is baratie and Sanji and Usopp feel like secondary in their arcs but i blame time. but other than that good ESPECIALLY MIGAWK OMG YAY!!
“My credibility is gone because I’m changing my opinion instead of doubling down” Yep I will smash that subscribe button. I’m also human being and change my opinion
I like the closeup lense shots that maybe to me thats manga, its shoulder up and it felt warm to me but I'm a people person and maybe people who like more personal space dont like that closeness. I feel that where manga shows such strong emotions in the faces, that other live actions not grasping the close emotions that are more suttle in real life is where they can feel flat. I only ever saw up to Tony Tony Chopper in the anime years ago but just love this live action and all the actors were so loveable but i have a closer place in my heart for Zeff, Mihawk, Buggy and Garp. Im now a fan girl lol
To me the least favourite part was Luffy's fight with Aarlong, while my favourite part of the show was Garp. The small, goofy mannerisms like moving the chair with his leg, almost dancing with excitement upon finding the Go board or actually wanting Zeff's steak were executed perfectly and soo in character, and in his introduction somehow he looked just as wide as the anime version for like a second. As for the cuts, I absolutely noticed this problem and it was super jarring, but from what I've seen it was only in episodes 7 and 8, so maybe they kinda rushed the finale.
Rich, i can’t lie. I watched it, i didn’t even hate watch it. I genuinely enjoyed watching it. CG can be off looking at times but the actors portrayals, especially Luffy and Usopp, really make it feel like One Piece.
Agreed. I think they got the style down pretty well.

Garp wasnt just testing luffy. He was testing Helmeppo and Koby by using Luffy. He always knew Koby liked his grandson, and played the ruthless pirate hunter to see if koby followed his own justice. Garp wanted the next generation not to be 100% loyal to the world government
So much of mental gymnastics to validate stupid plot point.

oh that makes sense.
It also seems like it his paralells with Luffy, and a secondary role as an advisor to his captain (as Sanji arguably has the most experience with pirate culture and the ways of piracy, it does make sense).
the constant sanji perv gags are one of the things keeping me from watching the original im so glad they were significantly downplayed
@@beebs4283Sanji is my favorite character in fiction, he has amazing character growth. The dude may be pervy, but will rather die then hurt a woman
He also would die protecting Nami or Robin or any woman really, cooks them food, takes care of anything they ask for, etc. so he is endearing in that way.
should watch the japanese dub of this live action. they got the og va of the anime to dub the voices
My only gripe with Zorro's scene is he was taken out by a bottle on the head.
@@Dntmindmeimjustboredto be fair even early on in the manga Zoro was always getting fucked up
Yeah, I think the backstory was in a good spot.
Thats exactly how I described it, Its just a feel good vibe. You can tell the cast and everyone who worked on the show really enjoyed it.
Bro I was laughing so hard...the fishmen were bumping some gangsta toons.
I mean it's clear he just doesn't like that genre of music lol. That would be a lot simpler to say than the explanation he gave in the video.
Didn’t know he was in that lol. But very cool either way!
Deke is kinda like Buggy! I watch that show! And yes, He’s so perfect as Buggy…
Buggy, Kuro, Mihawk. They were insanely good.
@@CosmoLavholy- that’s a take. Can’t say I agree but I respect it
@@CosmoLav Smoker and Tashigi (and also Ace) could easily serve the same purpose of reusing sets next season, and later seasons probably won’t need quite as many locations anyway
@@blakchristianbale ooh sounds interesting…can’t wait! 😁
I agree. Also, the well might serve as a metaphor for his Solitude journey to the promise he made and how nothing will stop him from reaching the Top.
Arlong trap beat was hilarious I loved the memes
Na cause I was like chill then put of no where trap beat music plays 😂
im a helmeppo fan now, fucking loved the dude. want more of him.
i just hope that matt, the producer, listens to criticism. i want an even better adaption of course :)
My favourite thing about this show was that I gave a damn about what happened to every single character, goodies AND baddies. So enjoyable to watch.
When you said you're in the Arlong park is that in the anime or in the live action? coz Arlong park is in ep7 of the live action not in ep3.
@@kamukazee9811 arlong park is currently where I am in the anime and the syrup village arc is where I am in the live action
ok, now i got you 👍
you skipped the baratie????? man, rule number one in one piece is don't skip shit that is canon (and some filler is great), and for a very good reason.
in one piece everything is deeply interconnected and interlinked (foreshadowing) even if it does not appear that way in the beginning - this is one of the most important aspects of this series that truly takes it far above other shonens - its forethought!
PS: one piece loves bringing back past characters, by missing various arcs, you'll be stumbling in confusion aplenty.

Great great vid bro 🔥 keep posting this heat
I never watched the anime being heavy into it and this show convinced me to watch it.
I really appreciate you not doubling down, my guy.
watching it felt good and i know what to say i'm grateful for on thanksgiving
My other speculations
Season 3 - Sky Island, Water 7 and Ennies Lobby Arc
Season 4 - Thriller Barc, Shabondy Archipelago and Amazon Lily Arc
Season 5 - Impel Down and Marineford War Arc
I watched it, it's the Best Live Action I'd say. Marvelous Cinematic Experience and an emotional rollercoaster. Casting is great as well.
I loved it. 💯
The banter between zoro and sanji didnt start till little garden.
I loved it! As someone who never watched the Anime, it has made me watch it. I'm currently on episode 70 and can't stop watching, lol. I think this will engage a lot more people into the genre and One Piece franchise as a whole ❤
I very much noticed the cuts in the arlong speech scene, but liked them. Gave it some rithm I didn't expect but appreciated
can i also add that at any point you pause the show it makes a perfect screen saver its so pretty
hey bud, absolutely LOVE the video. just had a question, are we going to see a Chuma Okeke update video? last time you spoke about him was back in 2020, the viewers deserve an update. also, you promised us a demon slayer in the boruto-verse power scaling video back in 2021 and it’s damn near 2025. these are all unfulfilled promises from you. if you keep this up, i’m afraid i’m gonna have to uncheck the bell icon for your notifications. also whenever i DO see your notifications, i start feeling so loose and h-word… do i have issues? anyways wonderful video!
😭
OMG you changed your opinion..after watching it with context.
Like, what are you....a honest criticism with humility
I don’t think Garp was testing Luffy. He was trying to convince him to not be a pirate and to join his side
He was both testing his resolve and trying to impose his wish for Luffy to be his sucessor in the marines...
Both can be true
Edgelord met Roadman and the bickering was on point. 😅 Can't wait for more
Totally agree with the fishmen theme.
That totally took me out of the immersion.
its because Arlong was using a "trapper" hat.
Personally I didn't mind Zoro's back story where it was placed. We get to see Zoro struggling to get out of the well. I got the sense that it was a life or death situation and the conclusion was "I can't die here, not until I become the strongest swordman"
And I don't think the next episode would have benefited from this specific flashback honestly. It needed time to introduce Sanji and I think it was important for us to know Zoro's motivation before the fight with Mihawk so we don't interrupt the fight and break tension
As far as the script goes, considering the source material, I think the team did a brilliant job
14:09 I think it's trying to emulate how the drawings look
Yeah, the Morgan and Garp scene he showed as an example looked like it was ripped from the Manga
i dont think there would be a chance i would ever watched the anime but seen this show got me reconsidering
I was very confused about the close ups, especially in episode 2. I hated it at first, but got used to it pretty quickly.

I am really enjoying it. My daughter got me to watch it, and I personally think it's really well done.
I cried like a dumbass at the nami scene. Damn it...
I liked everything but the only part that didn't fit was how fast Sanji joined the crew and instantly acted like he belonged there but then again it's live action and the Don krieg stuff didn't happen which really helped Sanji with his story.
your not alone!im very skeptical but it proved me wrong.its a great show.

It's all about creating exactly the feel that you had, the thing is they didn't quite work on you and that's OK XP
As for other plot points, I don't know how much of the Manga/Anime you've seen or understand but the marine side of things is quite relevant.
Condensing 100 chapters into 8 episodes is certainly an insanely difficult task. I think they have done it wonderfully :)
I agree the Marines took a bit too much screen time, and I think a lot of the issues with the pacing and character backstories could've been solved if we just shortened their involvement.
That said, Garp didn't do ALL of that just to test Luffy, he was indeed originally planing to capture him and, either try again to make him a Marine, or just send him to prison, it was only at the end that he decided to fight him to 'test' him, to see if he was really on par with his ambitions.
true he missed that talk between garp and koby

Season three is going all the way up to saving robin and season four will be all the way to the time skip.
completely agree
I dont think Garp was testing Luffy. I believe at one point, he really wanted to arrest his grandson to stop his ambition of being a pirate. But he had a change of heart halfway so he made it appear he was just testing him.
@5:28 the jim carrey mention is just to good. I can really see jim carrey playing a good buggy.
A week ago, I just saw cute orange hair girl in one of the posts about the live action so I started watching, now I love Nami
I still feel that the standard is detective pikachu. But budget always matters.
They got rid of the yellow piss filter , yay! Had a smile on my face alot, my negative is baratie and Sanji and Usopp feel like secondary in their arcs but i blame time. but other than that good ESPECIALLY MIGAWK OMG YAY!!
Yeah I’m glad it’s not as yellow as it was in the trailer 😭
Everything had to be okayed by Oda. EVERYTHING.
THAT IS THE ONLY REASON IT'S THIS GOOD AND I'M SO HAPPY
Captain Kuro was acting his ass off
“My credibility is gone because I’m changing my opinion instead of doubling down”
Yep I will smash that subscribe button.
I’m also human being and change my opinion
I love your avatar is from Sonny Boy. best show ever
Supposedly they actually made custom wide lenses in order to make it "look more like the manga". Maybe it looking flat was on purpose?
the arlong edit put me off as well. this was so wierd
