The greatest advantage of a battery-powered car with a solid-state battery is its extended range. Why? Because with a range of 1000 miles, you won't need to travel such distances without breaks, allowing the car to slow charge while you rest at a hotel overnight (if the trip is exceptionally long). This is gentler on the battery compared to a 200-mile range where fast charging is necessary to reach your further destinations. Furthermore, reducing the need to recharge every 150-200 miles also extends the overall life of the battery.
Nope. The big advantage of batteries that allow you to make a car with 1000 mile range is that those batteries allow you to make a very light (lighter than ICE) and cheap car with 500 miles range, because they'll have half the batteries of current EVs. Very few people take regular cross country trips; the overwhelming bulk of mileage is done in much shorter trips, which is why most EVs are already mostly slow charged overnight at home.
Dude, you are not getting 1000 miles of range. Be realistic. 400 miles is the practical range if you do the math regarding Quantumscape's testing results.
has Tesla been sued for FSD not working after more than 7 years?
Driving Tesla since 2015. Still greatest BS. If VW starts producing solid states I will def. buy one! 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Yes.
Sam, you missed the fact that Solid State batteries are lighter, pretty significant!
He said higher energy density. That's the same thing.
I'm through the comments. Guys, QS is not Tesla and you massivly underestimate Quantum Scape... 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼
Yes, Solid State Batteries might be a huge thing for EVs once they're ready. The news here is that VW is investing in development and hopefully production of SS Batteries, as is everyone else. Nothing is ready yet. It might be several years until this technology is ready, and then everyone will offer it in their cars.
But, we got another wonder battery video, so I won't complain 😊
No one else is this close, they all claim they are but they can’t provide verified data
In Texas, despite a cooling of a few degrees in the Houston area, the power outages caused by Hurricane Beryl continue to make things miserable and even dangerous. More than 500,000 customers remained without power on Saturday afternoon. Three deaths in the aftermath of Beryl have been attributed to Climate Change-worsened heat, according to officials in Harris County, which includes Houston. Temperatures will be 100 degrees in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday, when Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game is played there, even around the first pitch, which is scheduled for 8 p.m. New York City’s temperature is expected to peak in the upper 90s on Tuesday, with the heat index reaching 98 to 101 Monday through Wednesday. Forecasters at the local Weather Service office in New York say that some spots around the city could approach a heat index of 106 degrees. Mr. Bann, the Weather Service forecaster, said that many cities in the region could set daily high temperature records due to Climate Change-caused "heat waves".
I’d be surprised if Tesla wasn’t already talking to Quantumscape after these trials, they’re hardly going to fall behind with battery tech. “Non exclusive” probably means exactly that and we all know how quick Tesla brings new tech. to market.
Remember Nokia phones thought to be untouchable and unassailable, then along came apple iPhone. Its not always the first mouse gets the cheese. If VW or other gets a superb leading battery , it will move VW or other out front
VW = Nokia
Tesla = Iphone
Fossil fuels = Kodak
“If” wishes were Teslas, we’d all drive away!
If you sell at the right time you’ll end up making your money
unfortunately, the cost per kw is already at parity or better with CATL's Shenshing PLUS LFP batteries capable of 1000kms per charge with very little degradation even after 1,000,000 km driven.. there's very little prospect for QuantumScape to surpass this battery technology.. & they know it..
This is 100% false
This is false, the Shenxing plus LFP battery is an amazing battery that promises fast harming and very little degradation over 1 million km, but the energy density that could be achieved in solid state batteries would greatly surpass them.
I don't trust Chinese data. Until multiple credible foreign parties can test it, you will never be sure of their product information
The technical milestones that QuantumScape will need to demonstrate likely involve a reliable mass production process for the solid state separators, and production spec battery samples meeting quality and reliability targets by a certain date. Nothing too extreme or out of the ordinary for deal made between tech companies.
QS has hit it’s testing targets consistently over the years. I believe they are looking at actual vehicle use in 2025-2026. It takes time to ramp up testing of samples and prove durability.
Interesting point.... what if Tesla had claimed something would be ready year after year and it is still not ready..... oh... wait..... reality is none of these estimates are anything but best case scenarios
Except SSB has been in development for decades. Ask Toyota how that is going..
QUESTION : Have any of you haters ever actually taken a Tesla for spin and TRIED FSD?
EVERYONE who tries it becomes a believer!
So how about you educate yourself and try it for yourself.
Teslas 4680 Production is in ramp up, you should know.
Why bullying Tesla?
They are doing their homeworks.
VW seems to be like an Venture Capitalist, cause they haven't the experts for making EVs on their own.
Its like the try to grab a piece of wood in the flood of disruption.
Would it be effective? In 2030 we will be smarter.
@@yvanpajevic9680I think they are afraid of turning their minds.
But everyones head is round, so the knowlegde and thoughts can turn the way around
Yeah, but Tesla eventually produces it, I’d say it’s very hard to predict when some high tech thing like an EV can be put in production when you are still doing development on it.
Plan...
Plan...
Plan...
Yeah right!
Somebody needs to tell VW that the biggest problem with their ID.x car line is not the battery.
Its the software. Who thought this was a good idea?
The software and the controls were designed buy a crazy person.
I know I have one.
That’s why they got rivn
Rivian Quantumscape and xpeng are last hopes for Volkswagen...otherwise they will go bankrupt......
I am interested in all new tech.. I am guessing they have the prototypes but going from prototype to production costs tons. This is another wait and see story.
They get like $16b from Canada to help build the factory that they’ve already broken ground on
I think the next frontier for EV manufacturing might just be in battery pack and module assembly. You watch these assembly images and it looks like some sort of insanely overbuilt lab experiment, not a streamlined, well engineered, finessed component intended for mass production. There has got to be a better way to seal up the cells in a easy to assemble fixture that meets all the safety and structural requirements. I think the industry has been very focussed on battery chem and form factor so far and they need to start applying more resources to module and pack design.
Yes, Quantomscape has jumped the gun before. I invested in them early because of the VW partnership, but I pulled out when VW ditched them and went with another company for their battery needs. I'm skeptical of any claims now
A lighter car with 500 miles would be more useful
A lighter and less expensive car with 400 miles would be even more useful.
So true. 500 miles is plenty
@@eastmanwebb5477typical peasant 😂
You need 400 miles to get 300 miles real world under all the stated standards even EPA.
You are getting 400 miles not 500.
I like your honesty. When you don't know, you say so.
It all cames to materials if they are avaliable near , avaliable ,cheaper and EU provided
......got any scoop on Niobium Solid State Battery tech? game changer in EV??
Developing revolutionary new tech is hard. Scientists and Engineers are pushing boundaries and learning as they go. Their managers and investors want a plan with a defined timeline, which is created from guesswork and the need to meet financial targets. Any such timeline is far from guaranteed. Project plans often suffer overruns and sometimes a project just fails to deliver. Both Quantumscape and Solid Power have ambitious goals and serious legacy auto industry investors. Companies like Ford, BMW and VW group are decades behind Tesla in EVs and a smart plan to catch up + maybe overtake Tesla needs big hairy goals way in front of where Tesla is today. Battery tech is changing fast and will continue to make major advances for the next few decades. I am optimistic about both Solid Power and Quantumscape tech - they are in a technology arms race with CATL and other battery manufacturers worldwide. I make no predictions on timescale - delays do happen.
Very good news, this.
Solid-state batteries will finish range anxiety.
No, being able to charge quickly and easily everywhere will do that. It’s all about convenience.
@@ISuperTed How many amps is your house fused at?
Seems quite a few of the new battery's are claiming 350watts /kilo or more now.
Owner over four years, I charge on a regular 120v outlet. It's plenty for everyday use. We go on yearly 600-800 mile vacation trips. The car wil tell you where to charge. It's painless. I have never had range anxiety. It's just not a thing.
The cost is the bottom line
He us right every time he says.."i could be wrong"
Would be good to see VW license the Tesla FSD CPU & cameras for their vehicles and shift their EVs to ‘software defined hardware’. 😊
But they have already been dumping billions into Xpeng and Rivian for their technology.
QuantumScape batteries have already been tested in a fleet of VW"s and went 300k miles with only 3% degradation. So a million miles is well within 1 million miles and the energy density is 500wh.
no, this is Fakenews.
QuantumScape Batterypacks are in nearby series state, but the only got tested in labor, not on road.
Or do you have a new source of your information?
And close down EV production....Vw rules.
Not so sure about this. Quantumscape have been messing around for years & I wonder if VW have jumped too early here?
solid state batteries are unnecessary because Nyobolt has a niobium-based battery chemistry that's capable of fast charging in under 6-10 minutes and last over 20,000 cycles.
So they finally figured it out? I'd like to see them in phones
Amazing video, you work for 40yrs to have $1M in your retirement, meanwhile some people are putting just $10K into trading from just few months ago and now they are multimillionaires
bitcoin does not pay any yield but will reward you with growth that you can't find in any other asset class
look at the charts, bitcoin has outperformed every stock and banking product ever developed even after multiple pullbacks over the last decade. not a financial advisor but I know what i'm saying
The key is diversification. Personally, I delegate my investing to an advisor, cos my job doesn't permit the time to perform market analysis myself. Thankfully, my once ago stagnant portfolio has now 5X in barely 4 years, summing up almost 7 figure as of today.
i'm blown away! more info please? i am a young adult living in Miami where i've encountered several millionaires, and my goal is to become one... they all seem to be involved in either real estate, stocks, or crypto
Can't share much here, I take guidance from ‘Sophia E Haney’ a renowned figure in her industry with over two decades of work experience. I'd suggest you research her further on the web.
Good. Then they will not have to pay tesla for regulation credits kkkkkk but the tough problem is that an idea is easy but production is TOUGH MY GUY. VW wants to make profits in batteries (no profit in cars),
Where can I get a sample of one of these batteries to do my own testing. So far it sounds like PFM.
Not just anyone gets these man 😂 it’s only select and trusted oems
Wait, what?
Why would 40 GWh (of high energy density batteries) correspond to 80 GWh (of standard energy density batteries)?
Can someone please explain?
The agreement is for an initial 40 GWh per year with the option to expand production to 80 GWh per year
I am looking for a 1000 kg 200 miles range small car for a cheap price. I am living alone and have only sometimes 1 passenger only. Unfortunately there is not a good alternative at this moment. I think they prefer to produce luxury cars because the battery production is not scaled up enough.
1,5 million cars is not enough. Its not enough for the complete exchange of the amount of petrol cars
You can conver a smart roadster to a ev, its like 800kg
After throwing in 200kg of nmc you will have like 40kwh so 300km range easy
1,000 mile range would be a game changer!:-)
And even more important, no burning. Not in my lifetime, I reckon.
No it won’t. Maybe for long range semis, but there’s a reason all cars average around 400.
With 1000, most of the time you’re carrying around dead weight.
Want game changer? How about slower degradation combined with higher energy density/output.
Using a battery that size as stationary storage for renewables would be a game changer. But no, let's jam it in a car that sits doing nothing for most of the day, week and year. Future historians will laugh at us.
I average less than 10 Km a day. A third or quarter of the average EV range today would be more than sufficient, pretty much fully rechargeable on a 110 volt outlet, a third or quarter of the cost of present battery packs ($15,000 to $20,000) and leave space for more batteries to be installed later if that were practical or desired. When I want to take a longer trip it usually only totals up to about two weeks in total; less than 4% of the year. I'd rent a longer ranged car.
@@glennmartin6492 10 km per day equals CO2 emissions of about 2.5 kg, on average.
The embodied CO2 of a Tesla model 3 battery is claimed to be 12 tonnes, if you believe that, and that's just the battery, not the car.
So your break even point is about 4,800 days or 13 years... battery only.
...hmmm.... ...maybe, but worth renembering dieselgate
Tesla may pull an Apple and wait for ssd companies to work some kinks out. Maybe leave a bad taste with investors if they push that before 4680 production. Think they realize ssd is years off and a fishing lure for legacy auto to get involved instead of tesla burning another trail.
It seems that the VW Group is doing the right things, let's hope they make it through the transition...........
That's why they made that billions of dollars invesmet last year.
Tesla makes tons of claims that never go anywhere and they don't get sued.
They’re already solid state batteries. Unless they have moving parts 🤷♂️
I'm not convinced VW is committed to EVs. Someone else will bear them to the punch.
VW? Sure, just like they did software with Cariad!
toyota is still on hydrogen dream
Thank God that Tesla is an honest company and they never under any circumstances ever promise anything that is unrealistic and they never have to delay or god forbid cancel any of the projects 😂
Projected target date is a promise? Are you a child? Probably. Toyota ssb is out yet? How about their hydrogen vehicles is it very popular like they advertised?
In all fairness, it's not just Tesla that doesn't deliver, their CEO doesn't deliver, either. How's that manned flight to Mars looking, this year?
I watch my spending and I'm not pleased with Elans recent political controbutions so I'm going to hold off for a bit and if it make sence in a year or two I might buy a Leaf on the cheap. I do beleive that some huge upgrades are on the way in battery tech, so I'm going to wait a while before laying out $70,000 on my keeper EV.
microsoft owns the best phone software ever == Meego
For me reduced acquisition costs for the the EV are more important. I have no need for the best EV with the highest range on the market.
By the time solid state gets here it will be Betamax.
I’m not negative on this technology! They’ve been working on it for over a decade, I’m sure they now know it works. From what I read, the only technical issue to work out is the mass production technique’s to produce the batteries 👍
Is VW “doing the right thing” or are they “ saying the right thing”?
I hope so: Toyota's been saying this since 2016.
It's called product education. You will know about the products way before it's launch. If they educate you about their products near the launch date, not many people know to purchase them
We're gunna
This dude is as slow as he looks, "these batteries would be in VW cars now if they were feasible in cost" These batteries are in early production, refining production, they have no price tag on them. VW has obviously done a cost analysis and the numbers crunch if they have PowerCo getting behind this deal. VW has stated that they will have different batteries in different market level cars, expect the QS battery to go into their premium lines first and as the production costs ease to be made more readily available. This allows QS to receive millions in royalty revenues and continue with production for other customers. VW is getting a sweetheart deal here being their primary investor.
Toyota can claim anything like Tesla has been claiming fsd since last millenium
Thank you for sharing Sam, VW jolted EV production 12 month ago. They sabotaged Tesla in Germany ( no one can prove VW is behind it ) now they are desperate and need to stay in the manufacture of vehicles. Toyota is doing the same thing.
Kia is way ahead of them
VW invests $5 billions w rivian. Its battery is so revolutionary, why would they buy QS for like 4/5 billion?
Everyone needs to stay calm.
Thank you.
I take every battery "breakthrough" with a huge grain of salt until they have an actual product delivered and 3rd party tested. It's all smoke and mirrors until then.
Yup ... Toyota and VW have been saying EV and battery tech coming for years ... good for stock news ... but not reality.
:-9
Oh stop it with the Chinese battery. Chinese Chinese Chinese…
LFP batteries are not even Chinese.
CATL
Forge Nano and Group14 have the answer. Solid state does not work
that’s like putin super charging with wireless donegal…
VW say they gonna make a battery has the same vibe as Microsoft say they gonna make a phone
Go do some research, before talking smack. Their subsidiary power co. Is manufacturing solid state battery base on quantum scape technology

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about that ever since they first announced the factory, but couldn't find out at the time. Cheers.
VW also have North American OEM that can produce Single crystal cahode with LFP that can compete with Catl Schenxing battery and Gotion. (Or deliver to Gotion North America). So they also might produce both.
QS are poised to use Single crystal cathode in theyr batteries and they will not by cathode from China.
They should just rip off the band aid and put these in the Porsche 911. Chinese cars are going to swamp the sports car market.
Tesla does the same with FSD. Musk is promising FSD since 2018 or something.
*2015
If that is true, Viking will remain in a job. 😂
Plans are easy to make, implementing is much, much harder.
You mean like full self driving 😅
Can you imagine being the person that has to spend all day wiping off batteries? Kill me.
Hey, buy Hiace and stuff it full of lead acid batties and small electric motor and drive 1000 km with constant 20 km/ h speed. Not that difficult but does it matter?
If it's ever made in mass production the ramp is going to take incredibly long time.
Again?
Starting in 2041! 😅😅
Jokeswagen has a “plan” …
The biggest problem with car batteries remains the fire temperature. A classic combustion engine car burns at around 600C. An electric car with Lithium batteries around 1'100C which destroys concrete, tunnels, structures. Lithium itself reacts with water. Once this problem is resolved, EVs will become mainstream. You see, most people don't want to drive a car that burns like a Russian tanks and that immediately incinerates everyone inside. Imagine a electric truck that burns inside the Gothard tunnel and destroys it. You are talking about damage in the billions. Current EVs with highly flammable batteries will destroy infrastructure.
Lets hope not fake news
VW Solid state wet dream = Toyota hydrogen wet dream
And, what is the small print for those shangrila-batteries?
Needing a special ingredient that they must extract from an apple that only grows in the gony dessert? 🤣
Because Nissan work with Envision AESC of course. You really don’t like Nissan do you Sam?😂
yea sure, keep an eye on it, but those factories take years to build and get commissioned and up to speed. There are a lot of things going on in this time period that are going to cause massive far reaching change, but timing is everything. The one company that seems to be ahead of the curve in most things is Tesla, how will the Tesla bot change the rate these factories come on line? How will it affect the employment of people? how much will the poor education of the population limit the speed these factories come on line? I speak not only of battery factories but all factories, chip, data center, car, battery etc. Nothing happens in isolation and the re-Industrialization of the west will greatly affect it all.
More dreams of a thousand-mile range, but really just lab experiments. We know virtually nothing about the operating conditions we need to ensure for solid-state batteries when they are used in an electric car. In my opinion, for at least the next five years, solid-state batteries will have no relevance at all in conventional electric cars.
Volkswagen wants to take QuantumScape technology which is now in labor studies and a nearby series State, they told.
It will be interesting to watch the ramp up, knowing big problems from the competitors in battery scaling like Northvolt, who are trying to start mass production since several month and lots of garbage batterypacks
good news !!!!
car technology always starts at the luxury end and then percolates down to the cheaper end. So we need to see solid state batteries in the luxury end first. -)
Change that stupid mind set. Chinese already started with cheaper cars and better ev battery
Novonix NVX is a key partner for VW in USA. Which that space for news

Tesla co is an angel in terms of invester advice? fair enough. How about delving into Tesla's price cuts resulting in exhorbitant depreciation for ther customers. Let's not get too carried away here and let's not forget about VW Diesel gate. If anyone believes that any of these companies are looking after their customers they're delusional.
Tesla is telling fairly tales about full autonomous driving.
So don't take Tesla as an example for doing it better.
vw can't even come up with good software/firmware
Yes... and will be charged with electricity from nuclear fusion.
quantum scape sounds like theranos
Batteries are EASY...... just ask Tesla ;)
VW were going to make a clean cheap diesel motor too -> dieselgate.
QS batteries aren't that ultra energy dense. Its around 330 wh/kg.
Its just that they fast charge in 5 minutes and dont lose their capacity after 1000 charge cycles.
I guess the issue will be scale. No doubt all the major battery makers like CATL have the same tech in development and already have massive scale, so it will be interesting to see if this VW scheme gets off the ground given the competition they will undoubtedly have.
BYD cars went into batteries first... this is why BYD is ahead of all others!
1500km range at average consumption 15kWh/100km needs 225kWh battery , Sam what are you talking about ? First Solid State battery will be about 400WH/kg at the same package it will offer battery capacity for Tesla Model 3 about 150kWh . People start educating yourself
Sounds like the song Toyota has sung for years 🎶😄
