The US doesn't ban Chinese EVs. It just puts a 100% tariff on them. So, are the Chinese manufacturers going through the process of having their EVs, or at least a few of them, meet US DOT certification? Safety regulations mostly. Seems like they should as that will increase the perceived value of the cars in the rest of the world. Then perhaps a few will be sold in the US and driven around to show the US consumers what they are missing? I could definitely see a demand for the EV super cars as wealthy US buyers will pay a lot for a unique car they can show off.
@@stopstopp There is no universal set of standards. You have to apply for and pass US DOT regulations and that takes time and money. Some things considered more advanced in Europe and Japan will not pass US standards, a lot of things actually. We need to be careful, very, very careful of what we wish for. Right now Australia has an ideal situation where there are hundreds of different cheap Chinese EV’s with all the features at unbelievable prices flooding the market. This on the outside may look great, for now. Be aware that there are strong rumours that the Chinese government is behind this. It has been heavily subsiding their EV car manufacturing in China for quite some time now, some say to the tune of $1+ trillion. 99% of the Chinese EV’s manufacturers selling vehicles in China and around the world are at under cost prices. As stated by “The Electric Viking” only 1 Chinese manufacturer is making a profit right now. If that is true then how on earth are legacy companies supposed to compete with that without having the same government backing to compete and stay alive? This has already created a huge problem in China as there is a massive glut of EV’s unsold in a huge a graveyard of over 1 million vehicles sitting there rusting away. The Chinese government has been pushing EV’s in China for some time with subsidies to manufactures. This has over saturated the Chinese market with these EV’s that there is a shift in consumer sentiment causing a downturn in demand. Chinese people are becoming concerned about the glut and rapid rise in technologies that they fear the future value of their EV’s. This has created a huge problem for China and now they are trying to dump a lot of this excess production into other markets. As well as this China is trying to use this strategy to dominate international markets. Regions like Europe and America are starting to become aware of this and are concerned for the potential to destroy their local car industry and the unfair practices China is using to gain a foothold. Legacy car companies are unable to compete not because of their lack of trying (maybe some are not) it’s because they cannot compete or manufacture cars as cheaply as the Chinese EV’s. This Glut of Ev’s is what has killed them in the Chinese market and that is why they have been closing factories down in China. If China were to succeed in their plans this could have catastrophic consequences to regional economies. Just imagine how many people would be out of a job if all the European and / or American car companies go out of business? It’s hard to fathom. It’s one thing to have competition, but it’s another when it starts to become unfair and political. Already these cheap Chinese EV’s are piling up at ports in Europe and the US won’t even allow them in the country yet because of this fear. Another great concern is the privacy and surveillance that these cars could be providing the Chinese government. Think about all the camera’s and over the wire data that could be collected from everyone, especially for those people driving their EV’s to jobs in sensitive or military instalments.
