The people who insist on hating him really need to rethink their views. This is what America needs. It’s something we used to admire, now people w high school diplomas call him “stupid”. If he’s stupid, what the hell am I? They say he just bought companies and isn’t part of the real work…let’s say that’s true, it’s not, but if it were, you’re removing the fact that leadership matters. Multiple companies thrive under him. That’s not an accident.

@@superthrustjon clearly, musk is not stupid. But his involvement in pop culture and his political commentary are simply not at the same level as his business acumen.
In that regard, musk is quite amateurish.
      Almost painful to listen to.
But people seem hell bent on worshiping musk.
Musk is first and foremost, a business man.
      Money and power.
And he is smart enough to create a new market.
      Electric vehicles are aerospace.
Even if musk makes your toes curl under every time he talks.

@@markmyra-cn7rd while I understand what you’re saying, I like that about him. He’s posted some silly shit, but so what. I’ll take that over companies and CEO’s who are full of shit and think we’re stupid. Subaru’s marketing is all about “love” when they’re making station wagons for lesbians… are they still about love when they’re making attack helicopters? Nike is so woke and behind the black community… why are their products still made with child slave labor? Boeing has DEI programs and gender and race quotas, meanwhile they’re stranding astronauts in space and their planes are falling apart in the sky. Elon was universally loved until he bought twitter and ruined the lefts propaganda machine… similar to Trump before he ran for president. I don’t care about feelings, we need to get back to getting shit done, and Elon gets shit done.

      If morality is your point.
Why would musk volunteer his satellite communication technology for Ukraine.
And then , after a dependence on the technology was established, musk started talking about how much money it cost him.
And showed signs of backing out.
I'm not sure, but I think it's tax funded now.
      Beneath the humanitarian veneer,
      there is a business plan.
      Kinda like a drug dealers.
      As a historian,
      musk is easy to understand.
Please, it would be nice if people didn't indulge in the,
(But what about that guy) value system.
It reeks of guilt by pop culture personal interest.
Musk and his business activities are a subject un to itself.
Just like any other corporate entity and personal.
      I'm just saying,
That I can't stand listening to musk talk.
      So I don't.

These motor changes reminded me of a BMW commercial during the 1990s. The BMW engine was known for less wiring, tubing, and clutter. Simple designs mean easy debugging when an issue is found! This looks like an engineering dream as the end result is cheaper, and the accounting department had nothing to do with this achievement! The longer you can keep from being associated with the John Deere direction, the better. Nothing Breaks like a Deere! If the ship is upgraded to a 12M diameter, will the launch pad be able to handle the extra erosion? I can't wait to see the variant Starships designs for different sized payloads! It would be cool to build a space station out of starships.

Less mass means less material is used, but 3D metal printing uses metal raw material that is more costly per pound, and the production process is costly. This was done to reduce cost over the life of the engine, not necessarily to reduce cost of production alone.

Gotta admit, thats the nicest rocket engine I've ever seen.
Bet DOD is slobbering looking at that...
They avoided getting involved in SLS, and now have an opportunity to have a friendly chat with Elon, about maybe producing a few extras of those Raptor 3's...
Basically we have entered the fabrication age of space vehicles, and we have the engine to power everything imaginable between Earth and orbit and beyond...
    And its gonna get better...

After that, it will be undeniable... a few early bugs, then should begin to exceed even Merlins...
If that happens, it will be exponential eyebrow raising in the industry.

Yeah, it only makes sense, but Elon said it took alot of work to get that, Job security for the engineers in engines department.
Also they have alot more possible improvements that most people are unaware of.
This isnt the last paradigm shift for SpaceX engines. I know of at least two more that can drop parts count by 5X and maybe 20X...
      Its a deep rabbit hole.
I suspect its possible to build a system to power a ship that only has maybe one moving part other than valves and maybe roller bearings, and the combustion chambers might only count 3 or4 for a yuge ship. And still not limit out on the air infiltration at the bell edges.
Sounds impossible, but its not, we just have to see how far they get.
Fun part though, is every rocket engine designer on the planet is Groking Raptor 3 now, and realizing what the future of side pump one lunger engines looks like.
If only we could get a video of the Chinese engineer's reactions, or the Russians that spit on Elon's shoes and suggested we use broomsticks... 🤣
