In India, BYD Atto 3 is more expensive and has lesser range than Tata Curvv (Bigger Battery) so it works in the Indian context but it can't compete internationally yet. Also, Curvv EV and Petrol/Diesel are built on different platforms and Curvv's platform is built for EVs only.

EV is not built on ATLAS Platform, it's built on Acti.ev platform and uses prismatic cells.
Atleast someone with brain
Tata Curvv is built on the Acti.ev platform and not Atlas platform. The latter platform is for Petrol Diesel and CNG platform. Thought the top body is same, it has a different under body. For India the powertrains are perfect. Watch out for the Sierra Ev, debuting in 2025, that is a lot more powerful and will come with 4x4 option.

Great to see that a country like India is embracing the future with low cost EVs… in Murica we will keep polluting and have high prices for EVs
India has no need for high range and high performance 300 km real world range is great
That's because India is very populated country. They have cities at almost every exit, cities with 100k to even a million people. So they won't have to worry that much about big range cars. Because if EV industry gets successful in India, India will be having a lot of ev chargers at almost every corner. @@prathamchhabra4833

In india we have to pay 50% tax over the cost and some time more than that if the leanth of car is more than 4.0 meter that's why it seems too costly.... If you sell it in The U.K .it's also in 12000$ price bracket ...
That is only for petrol and diesel cars. EVs are taxed at 5 percent only.
EVs have reduced road tax in most states.
Curv EV base would have cost 30lakhs on road if it was taxed like a diesel for GST and road tax.
Tata CurvvEV will cost 21000/-USD while BYD atto 3 costs 30000/- USD here in India
Tata Curvv EV and ICE are built on different platform. "Acti.ev" platform for EV and "Atlas" platform for ICE
Acti.ev platform is a pure EV platform. It's built for Punch EV as well.
But it’s 30% cheaper then byd atto 3 here in India
It’s cheaper than imports because of tariffs
@mcromer2169 it's cheaper than locally made MG ZS EV as well.
Tata pretty solid for india
Tata is right now way ahead of the market they are operating in, if given appropriate charging infrastructure they can increase their sales manifold.

As Indians we support our own companies.
When gasoline is over, we will switch to Indian EVs easily.
We need more chargers than new EVs in the country.

I am indian and yeah tata is pretty good for the indian market. Cheap and small. Low range doesnt make any diff as indians dont drive that far like americans. I like in US but I visited Mumbai this year for the first time. Great city but you can literally see a yellow smog all the time its crazy pollution and kills indians too
Is electricity cost cheaper than petrol in India? without any subsidies.
@wonderwalls3565 yes gas prices are almost as par with US really in major cities that's it's crazy like if I convert rupees per litre to dollar per gallon then it's like 3.5 dollar. The government is already supporting EVs. A lot of them are subsidized by the government.

Great video. I am of indian origin and I am not surprised that it is more expensive than Chinese cars. But tata is the first Indian major who is going for EV. It’s Jaguar division is going to be fully EV. The future is bright but I like your analysis because few are comparing tata with the Chinese and shows that considerable improvement is still required. (Tata are already in a significantly better place than 5years ago)
There is 10,000 dollar ev by Tata too
But Mahindra evs looks cool
Too but they still not launched there pure ev BE versions which looks so futuristic
Tata does sell small EVs too. India may catch up at some time. As relations between India and China seem to be warming recently, we may see Indian companies manufacturing EVs with some Chinese companies.
What.. the relationship between India and China is warming. You need to keep abreast of things, nothing has changed.

China has an advantage of lithium deposit within their country whereas India needs to import. So the battery also gets twice as expensive than china
Recently, India discovered fresh lithium resources in Rajashthan and Jammu and Kashmir that are almost on par with Chinese resources.
If there is one advantage an EV over an ICE engine car, is that it doesn't emit pollutants. A country like India would benefit from EV tremendously. Chinese cities were in worse shape than Indian cities in terms of air quality, but the electrification of small vehicles such as delivery vans and motorbikes, have made Chinese cities more livable. I have seen videos of electric bikes and small delivery vans crawling all over the streets i China. One huge benefit is the silence, A blogger compared Chinese streets with that in Taiwan. He reckoned it is noisy in Taiwanese streets because of the two strokes bikes and the likes.
Misconception that China cities have worst air pollutions than India. I remember many years back in the media here about how polluted China cities were and I did some research on it. It turns out that among the top 20 most polluted cities in the world then, none were from China. I think right now the cities there are better, so I won't be surprised if you gathered the data from reputable sources, none among the top 20 worst cities still.

yesss your mostly right. Tata owns JLR and most of the tata branded cars use styling and technology mostly from JLR, like harrier and Safari (The car is a C-segment SUV based on the OmegaArc platform, an essentially re-engineered version of the Jaguar Land Rover D8 platform adopted by models such as Range Rover Evoque, Discovery Sport and Jaguar E-Pace.) hence they can use their technology to level up (yet not up to the level of Chinese automakers in price, safety, technology, and quality).
Indian electric company ola purchases an European electric two-wheeler company and rebadged it as ola two-wheelers and sold it in the Indian market. The point here is that though Indian brands are coming up with good cars for the Indian market, they lack innovation and relay on other countries or companies' tech. Tata ev's make up only upto 50% of the components in-house while the main components like batteries and motors still come from China.
While Chinese on the other hand have poured billions of dollars into this sector and have fully developed their technology from the groundup and hence they command more innovation capacity than any other country. Thanks to strategic thinking, backward integration and cutting-edge manufacturing technology the Chinese automakers have managed to reduce the price of manufacturing to such low prices and still make hefty profits
when it comes to real innovation and development of in house EV technology in India is Ather it is the only one, but they are not as good selling as Ola as of now and thats a shame
It’s about time TATA got something right after getting it so wrong with JLR and basically crippling Jaguar 🙄 They definitely need a firework inserted somewhere 😮
lol jlr is making profits. look at other car companies. Atleast jlr is clear about electrification unlike others having legs on both sides.
The last I read that in the USA JLR are doing just fine .
JLR was reporting a huge loss until Tata took over the control back in 2008 from Ford. Eventually tata poured more money into R&D and design, thus we got newer vehicles from JLR, and currently JLR is doing profits globally especially after launch of new defender..

It's early days for Indian EV development - I wouldn't bet against them being a major global player by th early 2030's.
I think India if they play their cards right could dominate the African market ie East,North n South, coz as we speak they already have when it comes to motorbikes and Trucks(Lorries not pickup trucks)but globally China will remain King when it comes to EVs
Think of the Tata Curvv as a first generation Chinese EV with much better durability and drivability, for me it's no contest.
The Chinese EV manufacturers are going back to hybrid powertrains they are slowing pure EV production because sales have slowed.
Don’t forget TATA own Jaguar Land Rover, so they already have the access to make the cars better.
Lets review it first behind we pass judgement
I wish i could buy one but its sold only in india
India is yet to do a lot for EV vehicles china honestly ahead from india but as per india this is good beginning

It is true that there is a lot of poverty in India. But at the same time there's over 300 million Indians that live at a level of American middle class or better. That is the target market for these cars and other consumer products. India contains a market similar in size to the US market and that is what consumer products companies go after. I think that India presently produces 40% of its electricity by renewables like hydro and solar but I think it could increase it to 70-80 within 10-15 years, as there is presently a moratorium on new fossil fuel plants for electricity generation.
