Totally get where you're coming from there. Yours being a hardtop is even more rare and special. Jeeps have always been capable and cool in their own way but even back in the day, the tracker was so unique. We really didn't get any true "world vehicles" like the sidekick/tracker.
Really Nice! I fall in the category of best vehicle I didn't know I wanted! When I was in High School I liked Fast Cars like the FBodys, Corvettes and Vipers. Paid no attention to these. 10 years ago I went out to the Desert with friends. One Had a new FJ Cruiser and the other had a Samurai. I was more impressed with the Samurai because at the time they were going for $3000! So I wanted one but didn't want to copy my friend so I remembered the Geo Tracker. Finally got one 2 years ago and it's in my top 3 favorite vehicles I ever owned. Love the Manual Locking hubs,Manual Transfer case and Manual Transmission. These vehicles are so interactive like you're actually driving verses how Appliance like modern vehicles are. Love the Side Graphics and The Tracker Font. Too bad the tires are 13 years old. Those are nice tires! Really cool the Electric windows have a back up! Never seen that before. I believe the 15 HP makes a Difference. My Geo Tracker with 20 more HP then my Friends Samurai Feels like it has 50 more horsepower Best visibility of any vehicle I ever driven and very fun to drive. I love my Massive van but small vehicles just have a charm to it. Glad I can inspire you man! That is very humbling. Glad you will keep it as is. These are so good of road even stock. My dad bought his 2017 Colorado ZR2 brand new for $55,000 and he felt bad the Tracker Kept up with him in all off roading lol. I had to remind him he's a lot more comfortable then me to make him feel better. Glad theres another Tracker Uploader on youtube!
Awesome! Yeah these just have a feel that's hard to describe...I'll try to explain it in future videos why these are so fun to drive. I saw you describe yours as a 4wd Miata before, that's the best way to describe it really. Mechanical, pure, light, simple and fun. I had a YJ at the time I had my first tracker, I sold the Jeep two weeks later. The tracker/sidekick just performs better on the road and is more fun off road with an even shorter wheelbase, tighter turning circle and incredible visibility. The tracker shifts better, has more usable cargo space, better soft and hard top setup...the mpg helps too, even today it's 20-30 bucks to fill the tank. Is a jeep better for serious off roadinf? Sure it's got solid axles and way more aftermarket. But it's worse at everything else 99.9% of the time. Samurais are awesome but just too small imo, if I wasn't going to drive it on the street often, I'd be in a samurai a long time ago! A tracker is like a Cadillac compared to a samurai 🤣
@@tommyistommy You know whats funny? My last video with my Van and my Buddys Wrangler. I did the same Trip with my dad last year in that Area. My van wasnt equipped to tow yet so I just drove the Tracker 3 hours to the desert. Tracker is nice as a daily but not for 3 hours lol. But I wanted to Off Road with my dad. Tracker Never got stuck and kept up with my dads hi tech Colorado ZR2 with front and rear locking diffs. My Friends Jeep got stuck, my van got stuck on the last trip. It's amazing how good the Tracker is. Car guy in me appreciates the purpose built engineering. I have another buddy with a Samurai and he says the Tracker is a Luxury ride compared to a Samurai. My friend Drove her Samurai to the desert also. Took almost 4 she only managed 45 on grades lol

@@sdurff thank you! They are very hard to find in good condition these days. Finding one that hasn't been abused and/or is not rusty is very difficult. I paid 5500 for mine which would have been insane 3-4 years ago but the nice ones sell for 4-8k these days. You can get lucky and still find a solid one for cheaper but they will sell within hours of being posted Compared to a side by side, they are way better on road and for any protection against elements. Similar size for tight trails, definitely not as fast but you can go anywhere and have 4 seats for a fraction of the cost. And drive it to and from the trail! I'll have some more videos up soon, good luck in finding one and don't be afraid to pass on a rust bucket. The mechanical issues are easy to fix on these, it's a simple machine. The rust and some harder to find parts like soft top grooves and latches are much more concerning than any mechanical issues it may have
@@JohnDrivesAnything the samurai on the highway is the reason I could never get one without having a ton of land and/or a trailer to bring it along. They are really just a toy! I know exactly what you mean, my buddy just picked up a tj Rubicon when I had my tracker a decade ago and I could tell he was impressed and somewhat pissed that my tracker on highway tread tires did everything he could 🤣
Believe it or not, this is one of my dream cars. Along with the cheesey 90's decals on the side, because I love that sort of stuff. In another life, if I had the money and property, I'd definitely even grab one of these things from the junkyard and fix it up.
I love the cheesy 90s graphics as well, I believe you. I've owned everything and still come back to these trackers. There's just something about how simple, fun and pure they are
Awesome choice! The second generation trackers have arguably better road manners with rack and pinion steering rack and a bit more power. They are also easier to find nice ones for a good price in my experience! I prefer the first gen due to aesthetics and off road capabilities (better approach/departure angles, recirculating ball steering doesn't bind up and lighter weight). It's kind of splitting hairs though, they are pretty similar driving experiences, any tracker is a good one!

If it gets warm enough I will! I don't like messing with tops in sub freezing temperatures especially one that hasn't been removed in many years like my rear section. I used this as a strip on the outer edges of the front section of the hardtop www.homedepot.com/p/M-D-Building-Products-3-8-in-x-3-4-in-x-10-ft-Black-Sponge-Window-Seal-for-Large-Wide-Gaps-06635/100353487 It got rid of the rattles and creaks plus at 60+ there's no more whistle from back edges I also used this on the part of the hardtop that touches interior seal, essentially this compresses and it's double sealed. It made the front section very quiet, I am going to do the same process on the back section and also put another weatherstripping on doors in the spring. What tire size are you running again? I am shopping tires for my Tracker and the tire shops online are default showing me 205-75-15. The tires on my Tracker currently are 225-70-15 Stock is 27.1 inches tall and 8.1 inches wide and the ones on mine is 27.4 tall and 8.9 wide. Not much taller then stock thats why the speedometer is still on point. I just want to find the best deal and stay around the 27 tall range to not jack up power. I know if I go stock street tires my acceleration and fuel economy will improve a little.
@@JohnDrivesAnything I totally get it, I'm running 215/75r15 Firestone Destination LE3s. They are a great street tire and do awesome off road and in the snow. Not super aggressive looking though! It's slim pickings in 15 inch fitments these days.
@@tommyistommy Im going to shop those 3 sizes. I think the DOT code when my tires were built are on the other side. If my tires are more the 5 years old I'm changing them I hope they are still under 5. Cooper HT3s These are $200 each tires! Cheapest tires I've found so far are $82 each!

I agree, anything over 5 years is just asking for trouble. Tires are outrageously priced now, I know I sell them !
Great video not much different with the European model the Suzuki vitara. I own a 94’ hard top 8v and I think if you off road it feels and runs better than the 16v I have driven both engines 3 door chassis. 16v is better for open road motoring though 8v has a shorter tran ratio higher torque on the low end giving that extra push on off road situations.
That's pretty interesting to hear how similar they are across the pond! I do remember my 8v making torque earlier and the throttle was easier to modulate off road. The 16v definitely needs to rev to make power, it feels a lot like other 16v Japanese cars I've owned in that way. Here in the States, the 8v and 16v have the same gearing, only 5th is slightly longer (.8 in 16v, .86 in 8v). The gears feel a lot shorter in a 8v though because it makes peak power 1000rpm sooner Glad to hear these are still alive and kicking in Europe😎
Correct, this is a Pro Top brand top, fits great and I'll have more videos up shortly about how I improved the seals for noise reduction, it doesn't leak at all just was very noisy

The top on that vehicle isn't factory as it came with a soft top as GM didn't make hard tops but there were many after markets that made them.
