I’m really scared of storms, so as a means to overcome it, I’m taking the exposure therapy route by watching videos of people who literally camp during this sort of weather. Seeing how enthusiastic and calm you were reassured me that my fear isn’t something to become terrified of. Nature isn’t our enemy. Thanks for your bravery!

Ikr? I feel like I’d freak out. I’m not afraid of storms really, but it’s different to experience it inside your home where you know you’re protected, and in a camping tent 😰 I don’t think I’d react as calmly as he did to a tornado warning 😂

I slept in my tent with my dog through a storm just like that last summer. the next morning, I left everything and went home. when I came back the next morning after another storm had gone through the previous night, the tent had collapsed. So glad I listened to my gut and didn't try to ride out a second night in the tent in that kind of weather. it was nerve racking to say the least... but I was hell bent on having the experience and now I can say I did that!! and lived... my dog slept right through the whole thing...haaa!! nothing bothers him at night...

We could feel the ocean water coming up under our tent, and the rain pounding us from above with wind beating the snot out of us. Rain and a hot cup of coffee, yes indeed. I grew up in a Commercial fishing family and the trip to and from Alaska from Seattle is some of the best scenery. For me my happy time was dog watch. Sitting with the wheelhouse windows open, The heave smell of pine and salt water and a cup of hot coffee with the heavens laid out above as you just cant see them in a city or town. Sometimes Id hang my head out the window or even after watch in the predawn dark I would walk to the bow, Kneel and rest my head on my arms looking down at the bow cutting through the water. Sometimes the phosphorus was so thick it would light the wake up like a small flashlight. If we had Porpoise in on the bow you could track them and see there every movement. Then getting to share that with my daughter was the second happiest day of my life. Seeing her fall in love with the sea and nature as I did. True Happiness is sharing your bliss with those you love.

This such a great video. I was a BSA scout leader for 10 years and we camped mostly in the rain. I love the sounds and smells of the forest when it rains and when you are hunkered down, you have a calm feeling that flows over you and a sense of adventure like no other! Again, what a great video!!!

That storm treated us similarly here in Matthews. We had maybe half hour of rain w/10 minutes of hail. But in our case, the sun popped right back out w/rainbows in tow. Be safe my friend !

Hello I really enjoyed your videos I am a retired US Marine in the second Recon. Your Ventures are fun to watch bring back a lot of memories when I was young. At this present time I am totally living off the grid in middle of a forest have been for the last 9 years getting away from it all love the story about the rain yes it is fantastic here in Oregon we don't get much lightning especially along the coast but we do get some hellafied wind storms and Ice storms we see winds up to 70 miles to 100 miles an hour but my place Stands Strong it's not a cabin I have an A-frame and I have a canvas tent under the A-frame covered in tarps again enjoyed your videos.

All my life I've had a love for thunderstorms as long as they weren't too close for the lightening to strike by me. I even have Cds that have the sounds of stormy nature. I am now in the mid 60s live alone and find myself more concerned when severe whether approaches. Is this normal? God can be quite frightful with weather but we have to trust Him to keep us safe. That's why I'm confused about my fear. It's great to see your videos as they help fulfill the life experiences many of us cannot attain. Thank you for the work you do. Setting up the cameras for different shots must be hard. Thank you for your effort. It means a lot to many people.

I'm always learning from watching your videos. Thank you. I have been camping since I was a little kid. But never paid any mind to it because the grownups do all the work. Now that I'm older. I enjoy camping even more but have noticed all the mistakes I've made with my gear. Watching your videos Has shown me how to buy the correct gear and enjoy my camping even more. Thank you very much.

Yes, old logging roads, trees planted in something resembling rows, and most all of the trees are 'young' - certainly not an old growth forest.

I need to get one of those tarps myself, but I'd probably go with a different Aquaquest model instead. I build my gearkit around optional visibility. There are high-vis items in the kit (including some items I can simply reverse to a reflective side), but the primary configuration is designed to blend in.

Be careful out there, black bears are not always afraid of people. A man that was very experienced like you said the same thing you did and was pulled from his tent in the night by a 500 lb. black bear and eaten. It only takes one time to end up dead. I always have bear spray and guns, it pays to be careful.

  • @alexanderweaver7066

I also love tarps! Yes, I agree a tarp shelter can be pitched anywhere even with trees absent. I noted you never use hiking poles, manufactured or self made. Either can be used to set up an emergency shelter. I've used two lengths of willow branches to set up a Swedish ground shelter that will defy very strong winds. My survival bag in my van (full time van lifer) includes a safari 10X10 Aqua Quest and an emergency two-sided blanket from a ground sheet and for a visual rescue needed set up. I love your tarps color, and that of your apparel and pack. Great adventure with great survival advice...you rock, Luke!

Cell phone gps even with an app like Gia is super dangerous in remote areas. There’s a reason search and rescue use high end stand alone units- they rescue people who get lost using phone gps on a regular basis

Once again I am absolutely astounded by the high-quality Taster's Nasty content in Luke's videos. I love the over-night camps, the day trips, the honest dialogue, the cinematography, the musical conclusions, and of course the agenda-free gear reviews; but the Taster's Nasty content on this channel is off the hook. It keeps bringing me back again and again. Some rain, a tarp, and a cup of the Nasty is all a man needs to find peace in the great outdoors.
