Another great one that never gets requested is Bob and Martina McBride singing Chances Are from the movie Hope Floats. It's a great duet that nobody covers!
However, this song is not about love. It's about loneliness and the need for companionship devoid of emotion. And frankly, it's about a guy pitching a girl for a one night stand.
Brad and Lex… how wonderful that you two were able to find each other in adolescence, develop your love into adulthood and will now be able to share that love as you enter into parenthood❣ We’re hoping for the very best in life for you both.. always!🙏🫶from 🇨🇦
isnt it about a one nite stand? Not saying anything wrong with that- grew up in the 70s free love! of course I LOVE Bob Segar. I think my fav might be " Hollywood Nights" I love the part when he says " He knew right than he was to far from home"
Dude has a voice like smooth whisky. His lyrics are often about relationships, or coming of age, not exactly high literature. But his voice is absolute perfection for the lyrics he writes.
1981 Senior year prom song - danced this with my high school sweetheart knowing I was moving away to college. We kept in touch for a few years, but went are separate ways, eventually losing touch completely. I eventually moved out of state, got married, raised two wonderful girls who grown into amazing young women. When I hear this song, I still harken back to that night...
Kids now days. When would you listen to a song like this. Whenever it came on the radio. This generation could go from this song to Black Sabbath and never miss a beat. The only music you planned for that I remember was Zeppelin IV side two. In the backseat of your car with your girlfriend. lol
It’s probably my favourite of Bob’s many incredible songs… Most people tend to misinterpret/misunderstand this song…it’s not really about a hookup/one-night stand…it’s really about two lonely people and why they should “take a chance”. [“Here we are…both of us lonely”] It’s really is much more about the “let’s take a chance”…”let’s find a way”. What is there to lose? At worst…”we’ve got tonight” - if it doesn’t work out or lead to anything? No problem.
Such a great song " and me and my girl enjoy watching the both of you react" I've been blessed with someone who loves me and is my friend "but a song like this makes me think alot as I grow older" some people will say dont be so dark" and I'm trying to look at the brighter side of things"! When your in love and you have your little family" man you just want it to last forever
Finally someone is reacting to this. This was the number one make out song when it came out....think i was in 7th or 8th grade then. Man, put this record on and you could literally feel your date melt....and you knew right then.....go for 2nd base
Kenny Rogers & Sheena Eastern also did a great version of this song, which in my view is as good as if not better than this original, both are very good versions of a great song. 🇬🇧👍
Kenny never seemed like he needed her to stay. Bob is living this song and it comes from within. Kenny just took a really good song and sang a good version of it.
This is actually a kind of sad song. I love Bob Seger's delivery of it because he sounds so weary and lonely when he sings it. There was a remake that was a duet with Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton. While I mean no disrespect to those two artists' considerable talents, the remake doesn't do it for me the way Bob Seger's original does with his weary soulful delivery. The song is about a man who knows the woman he's with doesn't want to continue a relationship with him anymore, but he's begging her for one more night together. The bridge of this song says it all: I know it's late, I know you're weary I know your plans don't include me Still here we are Both of us lonely.... etc. Bob Seger's delivery captures the song's meaning perfectly.
Sometimes a song comes along that says it all and that millions can relate to because each one of us has had this situation. Many duo's have recorded this song, Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton took it to number 1. With respect to those 2 singers, this song is so good, it wouldn't matter who sings it, it's total quality. Thanks Bob for sharing your talent

We listned to this all the time we played our music anythime we just decided to hear it , this was such a powerful popular song and of course on dates, this was one of those songs that was mood setting , this melted your heart and as a woman this is the kind of song that really makes you feel romnatic and pulls at the heart of a guy pouring his heart out to you and just wanting to spend time with you. We loved music like this , yes these were songs that yes were great on dates. It seems to me people have lost so much of the romancing tender feelings we loved and songs like this and some others made us get all mushy and sentimental and ready to fall in love with someone
Lex....you are a treasure. Love, LOVE that so many times on many songs Brad looks confused or perplexed and you just role with it and take him along. Love that you are so open.
This is the first Bob Seger song I ever heard. 1978, I was only 11 years old. I obviously didn’t get all of the nuisances in the song but I immediately love it. I thought it was about someone who didn’t want the person they loved to leave on a trip or something. That he wanted her to just stay one more night with him because he loved her so much. Many years later, it was the song I would think of the night before my husband would leave on an Army deployment. To this day, it is still one of my most favorite Bob Seger songs.

Heard this on the Wonder Years as a youngster and it messed me up. Never interpreted it as a happy song. Always felt like a lament to a lost/passing love that never had a chance to make it.
I wouldn’t call it a power ballad. People use that term to broadly. The term Power Ballad was coined for hard rock/metal. They were ballads that still rocked hard and featured guitars. Think Def Leppard “Bringing on the Heartbreak” or Styx “Lady”.
I got sexually harrassed in the 60s-70s so hard..lol...thank God I didn't have to add this. I learned about Bob a little later.. love him so much..thanks for playlist this Fri night!!
Now you went and reacted to one of my absolute favorites....and yes, im lonely as all get out.....but why should I worry....when we've got tonight?!! (deep in my soul)
That's baby making music right there. Necking in the backseat of my car at the drive-in theater with Bob Seger on the 8-track player. Unfortunately those days will never be experienced by the younger people today.
Lol, not a power ballad. Just a plain ballad. Power ballads typically have a strong guitar presence. It's not necessarily slow but the lyrics invoke strong feelings. Besides this is a 70's song, long before the power ballad was a thing. Power ballads were meant more for heavier bands that typically rocked out but it proved they could have a softer side... that still rocks out.
This song was not a big hit for Bob Seger but became popular after Kenny Rogers covered it and had a big hit. Thematically it is similar to Stephen Stills’ Love the One Your With.
Always liked Bob's ballads rather than his rock and roll because he stole a lot his style from Chuck Berry, which to me became redundant...But his ballads, never tire of them, especially this one. Turn the Page is okay but way overplayed now. Against the Wind is great. We've Got Tonight is almost a ballad of loneliness and desperation....it so well done.
This one always makes me cringe. He's like the original simp with this song. Begging a woman to sleep with him. Don't worry, no one will know. That's kind of pathetic when you think about it. The music and melody is amazing though. Just the lyrics are cringe.
I was raised on his music, my family/ relatives on my mom's side were all Truckers/ Semi-truck drivers, Bob Seger was a truck driver before he got signed to a label
Oh, gorgeous song. Just tugs at your heartstrings. Two lonely people in need of a little love and affection even if it’s only for one night.
Another great one that never gets requested is Bob and Martina McBride singing Chances Are from the movie Hope Floats. It's a great duet that nobody covers!

Everybody's lonely today ...in this terrible world
A beautiful little known song of Bob's is "Always In My Heart" if you want a truly romantic song.
@@bigrig4385uh??
Such a great story teller. Bob is the best 💙
Seger is such a genius that he can make a one night stand sound romantic
Its mood setting music. Bob always said that more babies were conceived to this song at the time than any other. 😉
also many " Melissa"s where conceived & named after " Melissa" by the Allman Brothers!
Great tune for the dancefloor slow spot.... We used to have them in the 80s
Shame on the Moon is another beautiful song From Seger
However, this song is not about love. It's about loneliness and the need for companionship devoid of emotion. And frankly, it's about a guy pitching a girl for a one night stand.
That's my interpretation too.

Like most of his writing.
Again a great storyteller!
Shame on the Moon is a really great Seger song you two should check out.😊
Beautiful song- he’s throwing out all the feels to get this girl to agree to a one night stand ha!
Pure romance at it's very best, love this song.
Actually I think it's more about two lonely people and a one night stand. Sounds romantic though.
Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton do a cover of this, as a duet.. Check out the live version of them singing "We've Got Tonight"...😀😀

A great rocker did one of the best slow jams of all time!!

One of my fave Bob Segar songs. It goes right through your soul. It starts slow and soft and just builds and comes back down so intimate.

Bob Seeger has a wonderful sound. Kenny Rogers and Sheena Easton also did a wonderful cover of this which became a hit single for Kenny Rogers.
