Seger knew that young male radio listeners would hear "They do respect her butt", instead of the actual lyrics -- it was an intentional pun.
Bob Seger's Come to Poppa is a MUST.
The double meaning is lyrical mastery!
And it fits the flow of the lyrics so well - "They do respect her butt/(which is why) they love to watch her strut."
Aw man, you beat me to it! I was gonna say the same thing. Personally I always hear it as "butt"!
Come to Poppa for sure, a must do.
Come To Poppa is one of the sexiest jams ever!
This is definitely one of Bob's best. Sunspot Baby is my personal favorite, but you could not go wrong with anything from his extensive catalog.
I soooo agree!! It's definitely a sing at the top of your lungs with the windows down song. And "going to visit sister Flo"...so fun
ruclips.net/video/hlNOtSpQZmA/видео.html
Agreed !!!
Yes, I love Sunspot Baby!
Amen brother!🙏🔥✌❤
I was utterly privileged to happen to be in Fort Lauderdale (I'm from UK) in I think 1984 and to see Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. If I wasn't at that point, from that point on I was a a stone cold solid Bob Seger fan and still am.
The 1984 live her strut is the best. I always tell people to watch it. I especially like the dude with 6 maracas
probably at the hollywood sportatorium. i was there lol
A strut is a power walk where you want to be seen. She knows what she is doing.
That you Captain Obvious
100% agree!
my favorite Seger song is the first song he ever released. "Ramblin' Gamblin' Man". He's just in his 20's but it's an absolute BANGER!!!
Thay and Her Strut is my favorites of his. Have you seen the clip of him on here singing Ramblin Gamblin Man?
IF they listen to it, gotta do the LIve Bullet version.
This is the correct answer
This one is definitely one of his more Rock songs, another one that is even better is Come to Poppa,IMO
Agreed👍
Most definitely!
Come to Poppa rocks!
He does do a great cover of the song. Better than the original.
Totally his best song in my book.
Women only get mad if the wrong guys are watching them. Their ego often depends on the quality of the men who pursue them. Btw, I always took the "They do respect her but" as a double entandre "They do respect her butt"
When I was a kid and this record was playing in the house, I thought it said "watch her strip".
Seger has stated that "Her Strut" was inspired by political activist Jane Fonda.
Yes, that’s what I heard as well
You really should listen to the live versions of Bob Seger. They're much more powerful. Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band were at their time one of the greatest live bands on planet earth.
the live Hollywood nights video is completely awesome
“Live Bullet”.
He sold out 2 stadium shows in under 4 hrs when i saw him in the 80's. I ditched school to get tickets. 😁
I definitely think the live versions should be heard/seen at some point, but I do tend to prefer studio cuts for a reaction video when hearing them for the first time. Now there are always exceptions for certain songs, especially when a live track has superceded the studio cut as the prime example of the song in the world (I'm looking at you "Free Bird").
@@midnightblue6668 Nowadays everybody can record a song thanks to digital processing, Autotune and Pro-Tools. If you want to find out, how good musicians are there's no better way than to listen to live recordings.
One of Seger's classics. Also check out Still the Same, Old Time Rock and Roll, The Fire Down Below, Mainstreet, and We've Got Tonight.
"TIME HAS COME TODAY".... Have a Splendid Day
and "Horizontal Bop" is actually pretty good, too.
Try Katmandu
All BANGERS!💯🔥❤✌
A VERY popular song in strip clubs back in the day, as you can imagine. Don't ask me how I know that....😁
I happen to know that’s true as well. Because...I heard it from a friend. Yeahh. 😂
Oh yeah!🤪
This song was played in every strip/biker club/bar non-stop for years! Lol
Omg, Lex! Mr. Pibb voice?! You are a National Treasure and I love it! ❤️❤️🔥
Strip club was the first time I heard this song.
I was a DJ I in a strip club for a few years and this song would make it rain for the dancer on stage.
Saw a few dancers use Turn the Page as well.
@WAYNE what kind of sad strip clubs do you frequent?! Lol
Jennifer Andrews, it’s been so long ago the building got removed and is now a cabin along our lake. But it was a fitting song for some of these gals who also travelled from town to town and were tired of it. Wow 35 years ago or so!
I worked as a reporter for a major metropolitan newspaper and actually got to meet and talk to Bob Seger. Some stars are full of themselves, and don't have time for "little people." Bob Seger is different. He's one of the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure to meet in my life. Kind, generous and caring. Treated me like gold. Bonus? I love his music. Great reaction. Please do more Bob Seger!
This song was inspired by Jane Fonda in the early '70s, and is much about her being vilified for her political stances while being objectified for her beauty. She was outspoken activist for social justice then and still is to this day.
Hanoi Jane
She will always be Hanoi Jane, a trader to the American GI
She was a traitor
There's a difference between being political and being a traitor to her Country, which she was without a doubt. Ask the POWs she turned on
Also, it wasn't about Hanoi Jane
Always liked the double entendre of the line “they do respect her “but/butt.” Check out “Come to papa” for another Seger banger in the same vein.
Bob Seger could sing the phone book and make it exciting. What a voice!
This was the funniest , you win comments of the day 🏆
Seger has also stated that "Her Strut" was inspired by political activist Jane Fonda and her appearance before the Campaign for Economic Democracies. He stated "I was quite proud of her for doing that. I admired her crust. For going in there and having the strength to speak her mind, so I kind of wrote 'Her Strut' for an '80s woman ... you know, it was the dawn of the '80s, and I wanted to write a song about how women have become so confident and stepped out so much, and I thought Jane was a great role model." AXS critic Jeff Wallace feels that Seger succeeded in his objective stating that the song tells of "a strong independent woman and how she won't be controlled by anyone." Fonda has claimed to be flattered by the song, stating that "you’ll know why when you hear the lyrics."
My brother introduced me to Bob Seger 50 years ago. He and Bob are the same age and he said it was about Jane Fonda. I. Know my brother felt the same way about her as Bob
Dangit... Oh well, I still like it anyway.
The boys in my town said this song was written about me. They said I hat a STRUT when I walked. I took it as a compliment, not disrespectful. Shout out to the Hainsport NJ boys! 💋
SAME, but my guys were in Washington State lol.
@@monicajean37 ✌🏻Miss those days!!
@@goldieschooch8512 me too 😎🤗
@@monicajean37 Yes Girl!!☀️✌🏻
"Betty Lou's gettin' out tonight" is the jam. My favorite bob seger tune. Definitely worth a listen
That's right!!!! In my top 5 for sure. Oh, he rolls you right into an all-out rock session with that song.
Still the Same
I gotta say.. this channel has gotten so much better since Brad has loosened up. It’s almost like he’s realized no one is here to hurt him. And now we see what she sees in him.
Brad, just have Lex walk around the house while this song plays and watch her strut. You will understand completely
yep😄
Women dress to be noticed, but then get upset when the wrong guy notices. It's not about disrespect, it's about whom they want to look. They'll tell you different, but they're lying.
Absolutely we are simple. NOTHIN' better than a good exit . . . . . you done "Come to Papa" yet ?
Bob Seger - Come to papa
Bob Seger - Nutbush city limits
Bob Seger - Roll me away
His voice is amazing
I always thought the lyric was "they do respect her butt" lol. A little deeper dive of his would be The Fire Down Below.
"...maybe women are just going to get mad!" Bingo!
It's not an either/or situation. He's saying that they respect her as a powerful/professional woman but at the same time can appreciate that she has *ahem* other attributes that are worthy of admiration.
Love Bob Seger. I used to listen to him in the garage with my dad as a teen, helping him work on cars or do woodworking. I remember I used to hear the lyrics as "they do respect her butt... they love to watch her strut." 😂
Seger is a soulful singer . He is from Motown and he loves the Motown sound. Come to poppa is funky and for adults .
My favorite!
"Nothing to do with you, but a hit dog will holler" Love it. I make the same clarification to my wife when I make a general comment about women - Oh that doesn't include YOU, baby.
Sunspot Baby and Fire Down Below are two other Bob Seger songs about women you should avoid, but just can't resist.
Too many great songs to recommend from Bob. Most of them have been mentioned, but I'll add "Hollywood Nights", "Rock and Roll Never Forgets", "Fire Lake".
Can't forget 9 tonight.
When I learn to play drums I want to learn
Hollywood Nights first.
I’ve seen him 6 times over the years ♥️ His shows are legendary 🎼🎤🎸
So jealous. I was supposed to see him at the Toledo Speedway jam but he canceled last minute. Maybe next year turned into maybe never.
@@billdurfy2110 I’m so sorry to hear that. I have shows I have missed for various reasons as well. 🎼
@@billdurfy2110 Also jealous!
No, he said," They do respect her butt. But they love to watch her strut."
The question is does Brad love to watch Lex strut? 🧐
He said it like "they do respect her butt, they love to watch her strut". A play on words Brad.
You 2 are so good together! Thanks!
You got that Wrong! It's they do respect her ! , BUT they love to Watch her Strut !
@@jerryparks6123 They do respect her ASS!
Loved watching strippers dance to this.
One of Bob Seger's really fun songs is Horizontal Bop.
Do that one on Memorial Day weekend - or in June.
song about a great rear end
There’s a neat little bit that gets repeated several times.
“They do respect her,
But they love to watch her strut.”
You can however interpret the line as…
“They do respect her butt.
They love to watch her strut.”
I doubt the song was was written this way by accident…
Bob Seger "Come to Pappa"!!!
Now yall seeing what influenced the 80s sound LOL...RIGHT ON BRAD LOL
THe Great Equalizer ... WWWWOOOOO!!!
They do respect her butt....
Want more Seger bangers? check out his "Rock and Roll Never Forgets" and "Katmandu"!!!
Late 80"s Canadian Strip Bar mainstay. Victoria BC Government St. Magazine Girl's featured back in the day. That's what he's talking about. Not just there , but everywhere.
Mr. Pibb,,,,sick and browning???? Lex's mind has no limits in pulling wild stuff up from her past right outta the air tat relates......kinda! Great combo Brad nd Lex!
Bob Segar
Come To Poppa
The Silver Bullet Band is a very tight unit. One of the best backing line ups like Heartbreakers, The Pips, and The Moondogs, (Long John Silver and the Moondogs,......look it up, you will be surprised who it is.)
Ohhhh, memory lane! I think this music makes you actually think of a good female strut, ya know? Before seeing these lyrics, I always thought it was "They do respect her BUTT. They love to watch her strut." LOL Not but.... He had the sexiest voice. Man, oh man.
Us men are kind of simple creatures. We'll thank a woman for stuff like beauty or a good sandwich, don't take much...LOL
Yeah the exotic dancers loved Bob with “Turn the page “ Come to Poppa” and this song you play now “ Her Strut”
“You men are so simple.” LOL. No, I don’t think it’s disrespectful. ☺️
If my memory serves me correctly Bob did smoke a lot of cigarettes back in the day and had throat trouble and even surgery? if I'm not mistaken. He references this in his song ''Trying to Live My Life Without You''. Great reaction y'all! Check out ''Sunspot Baby''
That's a Debunked Myth ! ,BOB SEGER never had Throat Cancer! .
That was a Rumor Seger smoke a lot but NEVER had throat surgery! It would have ended his singing Career!
I love Bob! I didn’t realize until I was older that his songs are musical 🎶 soft porn! 🤣🤣
maybe it's just me and my weird mind, but that one line always struck me as an intentional play on words..." they do respect her but (butt)...they love to watch her strut.." I'm probably way off but that's how it seemed to me...lol
This was inspired by Jane Fonda walking away from a camera. Back then Jane Fonda was a big activist and people had great respect for her doing it. But she had a helluva strut.
Skin n' beer, Lex Skin 'n beer (jk men)...LOL Bob Seger was my first ever concert many many moons ago.
Song was written about Jane Fonda. Attractive and fully independent woman. Bob rocks!!
I was wondering when this was going to be commented. I was sure tons of haters would be firing off bs. Jane did have a nice backside. 👍🥃
@@Ranadkins she actually approved of the song from what I heard. Back in the day she was a force.
@@danoriordan8044 I was speaking of another thing.
From what I understand, he was inspired by Jane Fonda, and if you know anything about her from that time, you’ll know she’s always been politically active. The particular thing about Jane that inspired Seger seems to be when she appeared before the Campaign for Economic Democracies.
Can't watch a woman in heals walking down the street without this song popping into my head.
Hmmm. . .I always thought it was: "They do respect her butt".(as in boo-tay) I wore this album out when I was 15. Every song is great, especially "Sunspot Baby".
Strong thighs big legged woman la Raven haired appreciation day.
Brad hit the nail right on the head.
On what he said about women talking to much.
But the way they strut makes up for it.
Also in regards to bob's voice.
He ended up getting throat cancer. And it has just about ruined his career.
Anyone ever notice the inconsistent snare drum on Hollywood Nights? It's great drumming but there's variation on that accent.
So much good stuff from Bob Seger.
to follow this one up you need to listen to "Fire Down Below" Also are we SURE it doesn't say
"Oh they do respect her butt? " lol
I thought he was making a little pun with that lyric. Think of it this way, "They do respect her butt."
Lex - you got it right girl!!
Men
Are
Simple!!
😂😝😜
I have always thought when he says they do respect her butt (This should have spelled it like that ) because of the double meaning.
Bob Seger & the Silver Bullet Band absolutely fantastic music that only gets better with age.
Yes Lex, we absolutely ARE that simple.
😉
I believe I've dated the girl he's talking about a few times....lol
You got that right, we men are very simple. And you picked a great classic.
Hi B&L, Walking is walking, Do a Strut is putting on a Show.. ♠W.G.
You guys must start listening to Bob Seger Live! Whole nother level all together....
He wrote this song for Jane Fonda during her Barbarella days.
One of those "dont walk off mad,,,,just walk off" moments. Cant go wrong with Bob.
Always thought it was "They do respect her butt / They love to watch her strut" .
I have a friend that their parents owned a strip club in the late 70’s early 80’s. And the strippers use to dance to this this song all of the time. What great memories!!! Thanks for sharing!
I'm convinced that the corect lyric is "....they do respect her butt"
Love Bob Seger but I used to call him "old gravel lungs". lol
I always imagined it was about a model strutting down the catwalk
I'm surprised no one is recommending Roll Me Away, a song that Rolling Stone Magazine critic Dave Marsh thinks is Seger's best-ever single. It's one of his best story-telling lyrics IMO.
I love roll me away. Makes me want to get on my motorcycle and roll across the country.
He's not lying, some of us men are pretty simple minded. :-)
Lex steals the show again. 😂 Keep rocking!
Down and dirty classic rock!
YES!!!!!!! Stripper classic!!! Got to respect the Butt!
I always thought that word at the end of the line "they do respect her...." ended with two 't's.
There's f@#$!e and then There's wifeable
Seger is the dude.
listen to it as, "they do respect her butt" makes more sense, LOL!
This song and "Come to Poppa" were huge in the strip clubs back in my younger days!💯🔥 We loved to watch 'em strut!🤭 I'm probably a sexist!🤯😅🤣❤✌
Mainstreet
LOL, nice save Brad. Staying out of the dog house one clarification at a time. You guys rock!
Stripper music…Lex needs a stripper pole…lol.
Brad wish you would translate Lex for us ?
Speaking of a man watching a woman, you guys need to listen to "Mainstreet" as Bob Seger reminisced about a young exotic dancer from long ago. One of the lines goes "I'd stand outside until closing time just to watch her walk on past". On this particular song, he is backed by the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section in northwest Alabama. You'll be treated to one of the most iconic guitar riffs of the 1970s. Peace.
Mainstreet is such a great song. I don’t know why but it doesn’t get nearly as much airplay on my local classic rock station as some of his other songs (which to be fair, I love them all). But it’s definitely a fantastic one they should check out.
I allways thought that the "but" in this song was actually "butt"!
Men are extremely simple. You are not wrong!
Thank you, Brad n Lex, for getting to Seger. There’re so many. . .The Fire Down Below, Sunspot Baby, Feel Like a Number, Against the Wind, Even Now. Those are only a few of the greats. Love Seger. Love you guys.
This episode is where Brad sleeps on the couch tonight.
There's more than one way to interpret his use of the word "but"!
