Mr G' s rendition of the theme tune from the Lady Killers is pretty unique!! May be he should be cast as Professor Marcus as you build and develope your next film based layout. There's also some great comedy lines he could use! Can't wait to see the progress and it's final outcome. The film itself is one of the best comedy movies to come out of the Ealing Studios. A great classic.
I remembered John Allen's layout in Monterey, Ca. It was often featured in USA model railroad magazines in the late 60's - 70's when I would read about it. It was a large HO scale railroad. Lots of detail. Sadly after he passed away in the mid 1970's his layout was destroyed in a fire. Grumpy cameraman has made his presence known today. Bill and Janet from California
Enjoy Miniatur Wunderland Dawn, it's inspirational regardless of what scale, era or place you model! I saw it back in 2010 when the airport section was nearing completion but not yet ready and it has GROWN quite a LOT since then. You may well need two days to see it all...
Aw yes! "The Lady Killers"! The guys should have laid on the deck of that signal bridge until the engine entered the tunnel because the engine crew would be looking right at them to read the semaphores! The last member of the gang learned the hard way to be careful around lower quadrant semaphores.
I had no idea there was such a thing as a shuntung measurement car: everyday's a school day! Your new layout sounds exciting. Will it include miniature figures of the main protagonists? It's a good job GC is a better filmographer than singer...
Better filmographer? That's questionable Stephen! :-) And yes, all the characters will be on the layout.. maybe even more than once, in different scenes.
I’m still here wife has been very ill she had cancer last year ,she’s just ticking over now got the tack for my Victorian railway temporarily on the boards hoping to get on with it all the best❤
Looking at the theatre on your Brief Encounter layout, was it based on a particular theatre? I'm only asking as it looks very much like the Plaza theatre in Stockport, just south of Manchester.
Yes... it is! Several people have mentioned it. i reworked a kit - but the kit didn't mention the Stockport Plaza, so I was in the dark until recently.
By the way, the late John Allen's fantastic HO layout Gorre & Daphetid (pronounced Gory and Defeated!) was a tremendous inspiration to modellers on this side of the Pond, as well as in the US, in the 60s. Sadly. it was largely destroyed by fire just a few days after John Allen's untimely death in 1973.
@@modelrailwayquest Indeed he was! Mind you, many US modellers have the space to spread themselves in those huge basements found in not a few houses...
Grumpy Cameraman classical singing was epic-ly bad! But funny, great update and looking forward to the layout build

Thank you Andrew!
Looking forward to The Ladykillers layout - a wonderful film! Will you be appearing in 3D printed form as Mrs Wilberforce?
And a beautiful voice too !

@@modelrailwayquest LoL. At least he keeps the camera steady & straight. Mostly 🙃
😂 maybe the grumpy cameraman should do his own musical 😂
please don't encourage him...!
You see how lively grumpy camera man makes the vids !

I've just recently discovered his work - he sounds like he was in a league of his own.

That's true... they have the luxury of space!
@@modelrailwayquest Ah, but we Brits are becoming experts at building working layouts in very SMALL spaces!

Hmmm, 5 deaths and a railway... interesting!
The railway scenes in the film are very atmospheric. Lots of steam, smoke, and semaphore signals...
