Thank you for the amazing, well-detailed tutorial! I’m learning to quilt and this was very helpful. I also use that exact same erasable pen for school and had no idea that it could be used for quilting. I’ve been marking lines with chalk and even though I remove the lines with a damp cloth, my projects still end up looking chalky. So this is a life saver! I’m also a cardmaker 😊 New subscriber here!
Thanks for showing the basics of quilting, pinning, wonder clips, pressing etc. I know it is redundant for more experienced individuals, but I’m a novice and watching this is boosting my courage to give it a try. Thanks again🪡
Love your teaching style! I am an experienced quilter but I always love watching fabric scrap project ideas. My tip for this type of patchwork project is: at the beginning of your project, once you have all of your little fabric squares arranged on your mat the way you like them, take a quick photo with your phone. That way, if you get mixed up as you are sewing your squares together, you can check your photo for reference. Most times, the squares look great no matter what 😊
I have just seen this tutorial today and I would like to say this is the best tutorial I have seen for making a project bag. Clear instructions and videography, all makes me think I could this. Thanks so much, Paula
I was only able to catch the end of your live, so I came back to watch the replay. Now, the last time I used my sewing machine was in 1996. I made lined drapes for our prior house when we first moved in. My mother-in-law promised to help me, but then got busy with work and I did 8 10 ft drapery panels by myself from a book. They actually turned out fantastic. The only other time I had used a sewing machine was in 8th grade Home Ec. lol. Realistically, there is 0% chance of me doing a bag like this, but is was amazing watching you Nichol. You always inspire me.
Wonderful tutorial Nichol! So cute ❤️🤍💙 Thank you so much for the shout out. 😍 I appreciate your continued support. 💕 You are a "project bag machine" now. 😂 Each one is more beautiful than the last. 🇺🇲✂️🧵
Amazing bag. Thank you for sharing. I’ve watched the tutorial numerous times and decided to try making one. I Have several quilt blocks I made months ago my first attempt with those as well. They are definitely beginner’s work 😂and wasn’t sure what I was going to do with them until you shared your project bag. So now I have a beginner’s project bag to keep my beginners work in process cross stitch. 😂A lot of mistakes, but learning so much. Thank you again
I have watched this video many times while I made my first project bag. Thank you for your detailed instructions. Love your videos. Keep up the great work. 💕
I finally got round to making this bag. Never quilted before….I probably won’t again, it’s not my thing😁. But I probably will make another bag, but without the quilting. I do love my bag, faults and all😂😂 Thank you ever so much Nicole for taking the time and making such a good tutorial!
WOW! Your project bag is fantastic! I love the fabric, the straight line stitching, & the binding too!! It looks so good! A question for you…Have you ever tried sewing the binding to the back first, & bringing it around to the front? Then you can see where those stitches are going as you sew them, & no more ripping out. Thank You for sharing your technique!
Thank you so much for this video Nichol. Since I’m an experienced sewer I was able to anticipate your steps and knew most of this. The one thing I learned from this video was how to get the last seam of the binding the angle one. I would always twist it. I have always just gave up and sewed it straight or have the long arm quilter put the binding on. Watching you do this with it slowed down I was successful!!!!!🎉🎉😍 Thank you so,so,much!!
Even though ive made a ton of project bags i still enjoyed watching this. When my machine comes unthreaded and rethreading doesnt fix it, a new needle usually does. I usually use fat quarters or scraps but love the idea of using mini charm packs as an affordable way to use more fabric collections
I wasn't able to watch live, but loved the video. You helped me with a few things that I either get stuck on or don't want to do. Great tutorial!!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us!!!! 😃😃😃🤗🤗🤗
Thank you! ❤ Thank you for sharing a great project bag. Your instructions were clear and concise, easy to follow. I’m loving the fabrics and the zipper pull too.
I found a fool proof way to not miss catching the binding in the back. I use Elmer’s glue placing dots and lay my binding down and tap with the iron as I go. I never miss sewing the binding down now. Thanks for you tutorial
Love the fabric and a great tutorial. I do not need any more bags but might just have to find a cute charm pack and make one anyway. Binding does not bother me but if I am machine sewing binding down ( like on these project bags or baby quilts) it's always easier to sew the binding onto the back then pull to the front and do the final sew down, it keeps from missing those little areas.
Hello nichol, I wanted to say I love all your vids. I also quilt and make cards so I love all you make. I wanted to ask you if you have ever tried using a blow dryer on high to remove your pen marks. I used to iron mine out but sometimes my quilts start feeling somewhat stiff from the iron so I started using a blow dryer and I love the result and have never experienced the marks returning and it’s actually faster than ironing the pen marks out.
The patriotic bag is just beautiful and it is definitely the best tutorial I have seen for a Projects bag! Your instructions are so clear and precise. Thanks so much for sharing this with us!!! Enjoy your project bag and happy stitching!!!!❤
Thank you so much for a fabulous tutorial! What fun! I used to quilt (health got in the way) and now getting back into it. You’re inspiration, videos and tutorials help give me my confidence back💖💖💖 I enjoy and watch all of them! Thank you! Thank you! You’re a lovely, good hearted soul and lots of fun!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻💖💖💖💖💖💖
Love your bag Nicole! Sew pretty. I hand bind my binding down. I wish my machine binding was pretty but it’s not. I will definitely be using your pattern. Thanks 🌞
Oh my goodness Nichol!! Like I've said before. I've made many zipper bags however I love all your ideas!! 🎉🎉 How BEAUTIFUL! I'm going to make one today also. Love how you quilted the piece above the zipper too then cut it off! Such a good idea!! See, we're never too old to learn new things!! I absolutely LOVE your Flosstube videos/making bags EVERYTHING!! Thank you so very much for taking the time to make this video Nichol!! I'm grateful I came a cross your channel!! Thank you for all you do to help us all!! ❤❤🎉🎉
oh my gosh my Janome started doing the same thing! I felt like I was re-threading constantly when Id not had this issue before. Then I realized if I press the thread cutter and let it finish completely before I lift the foot to remove the fabric, no more issues! I guess we get faster than the machine lol!
You are so funny. I take it people must say things a lot. I can’t imagine being so vocal. I’m concentrating so much on what you are doing and saying, I can’t think what I would say anyway.
Oh my, there are times I wish I could cut the fabric like you did from the top down. My Juki does the same thing . The thread coming out of my needle or when I accidentally cut my thread when my heel goes down on the pedal. Pat Sloan loves to do the zigzag stitch on her small projects as well. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Nice tutorial Nicole😊 Always nice to see tutorials that show step-by-step processes. I never thought to sew a zig zag stitch to quilt my own bags. That looks so pretty❤ I saw someone else use a straight stitch but moved the bag while sewing to make wavy lines too. I’ll have to try both! I use mini clips mostly instead of pins. I love them! Cute, cute bag Nicole❤ Love how you did the band ❤️ So much more time saving than sewing one separately! Will try that one😊
Thank you for being so detailed.🤓 I want to make one. I love machine binding. I don't like to have my pieces meet the way you do. That is too hard for me. Very cute bag - love it.💓
Hi Nichol, just found this tutorial and really enjoyed it! I quilt and make bags but found both late in life! I have just one recommendation and one observation - I used Double Sided Tape (1/8th inch) (DST) to hold my zip in place, I think you would find it very helpful😊. I observed that you do not automatically close the blade on your rotary cutter after each cut - I’m afraid that freaked me out a bit! Maybe try the Olfa one that closes as soon as you release the handle? Loved your teaching style 😍🏴
Great tutorial. Best one I have seen and I’ve seen a LOT! I also have made many, many bags and was blown away how you installed 1:02:25 your zipper! You can teach an old 🐩dog new tricks! But (there’s always a but) you kept referring to your walking foot as a quilting foot. That might confuse and inexperienced sewer. Great tutorial!
Hi, Nichol: Thank you so much for this fabulous tutorial. I've got my supplies all gathered and can't wait to get started on some bags! Have a wonderful Memorial Day and be safe and well.
Thanks so much for sharing this information. It gives me hope that I can make a project bag. It was very thorough and I’m excited to go home (I’m in Burley to my grandson’s HS graduation) and make one tomorrow. Have a great weekend.
Awesome video! Love this collection. I wish Riley Blake had mini charms. I love having new project bags with mini charms for all my cross stitch charts. I’m going to have to try the zig zag stitch for my next project bag.
Thank you for the amazing, well-detailed tutorial! I’m learning to quilt and this was very helpful. I wouldn’t have thought to quilt the top strip at the same time, then cut it off, great idea!
I like your fabric choice for the holiday… lots of great and useful tips and techniques👍… you are a wonderful teacher and videographer!
I finally got round to making this bag. Never quilted before….I probably won’t again, it’s not my thing😁. But I probably will make another bag, but without the quilting. I do love my bag, faults and all😂😂
Thank you ever so much Nicole for taking the time and making such a good tutorial!
Thanks for the awesome tutorial! You were making me so nervous with your cutting towards you, kept thinking "Oh Nicole😮 don't do that!"😂
You make me laugh cause you tell it like it is 😂
Great video I’ve watched some project bag video this video is my favorite. Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you Nicole!! I am going to give this a try!! I appreciate you!!❤
Amazon sells a great tool for bias binding which is the type of binding you are sewing. I do all of my binding this way since I discovered this tool.
Thanks for much for your fantastic projecst bag tutorial. Your video is so helpful!
Thank you for sharing! So pretty!! Just love it 😍… aloha 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🫶🏼☺️🤙🏻🌴
Thank you so much for showing us how you put your bags together. I make the binding so much harder than it really is.

Love, love, love this tutorial! I purchased enough coordinating jelly rolls and fat quarters to complete 4 new bags!
Fabulous tutorial - thanks. I will be giving it a go

Sallie Tomato also carries some fun zippers similar to ByAnnie.
