your journey down the rabbit hole!XD Oh and Chain of Memories was originally released on Gameboy Advanced and was later remade for Playstation 2, hence RE:Chain of Memories.
As someone whos played every single kh game for the past 20 years. The lore isn't that hard to understand, there is just a LOT of lore and much of it is optional because you have to read the in game journal and secret reports
I think it starts getting convoluted from Dream Drop Distance due to the introduction of a certain thing. Which is another way of saying, there's a lot of lore to keep track of.
Yeah everyone seems to make kh seem like no one understands it but people who have played every game in the collections don't complain about the story by the time they are in kh3 or 0.2
The full lore hard to access, a major part of it is is in a mobile game that shut down, which is preserved in youtube videos but they are several hours long. Back cover tells some of the kh X lore, but not all of it sadly.
I've been informed I missed a few games/trailers in the series, if you add them to this comment as a reply I will check them out in a separate video maybe!
So, the games you missed are: Kingdon Hearts Re:coded (Nintendo DS), Kingdon Hearts 3D Dream Drop Distance (Nintendo 3DS), Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory, The DLC for KH3 "Re Mind" And there are another KH games on mobile.
Welcome to the community. And if you want to play the games, get the All in One Collection. It's a three disc combo that has the games that makes up the story upto KH3. With two games having been remade as movies and a movie tie-in for the Mobile game Kingdom Hearts X. In fact, the mobile games X and Darkroad do have relevence to the main series of games. You just have to watch the cutscenes via some videos since the games can't be played anymore. Also we have Melody of memories which is a Rhythm game that acts as a recap for the series while also continuing the story into the next phase. If you don't want to play the game, I do recommend watching the cutscenes via a video.
Yes, the KH lore is confusing but not on the level of Fnaf lore. Play in release order, some recommend timeline order but that will confuse you worse. KH1 - Sora lives on the World of Destiny Island with his two best friends whom he gets separated from and journeys to fight the Heartless in order to find them and bring them home. KH Chain / ReChain : Sora, Donald and Goofy go to a mysterious castle where he slowly loses his memories but discovers something new. KH2 : Roxas has memories of Sora and doesn't know why, he tries to investigate before his vacation is over. KH 358 / 2 : Learn the truth of Roxas. KH Birth by Sleep : Learn about the first Keyblade Trio. KH Dream Drop Distance : Riku and Sora take a Mark of Mastery test to become true Keyblade Masters. After this you can watch the Union Cross / X stuff. Then finally KH3 / Remind. May your heart be your guiding key as you watch / play these games.
Honestly, play all of them on camera. They all hold up, they are all amazing and if you arent hooked by the end of the first game, nothing else will hook you.
@@GilbettaGaming Just don't listen to anyone who tells you it doesn't make sense. Based on what I've seen from past players, those that go into it with the preconceived notion that it doesn't make sense wind up a lot more confused and a lot sooner than those who don't. The ones who go into it with that preconceived notion also don't put in the effort to try to make sense of whatever they don't understand. Also, don't listen to anyone who calls Chain of Memories, Birth By Sleep, and Dream Drop Distance 'side games' just because they aren't numbered titles. Thinking that creates the risk of subconsciously underplaying the importance of the lore from those games, and considering that the end of Dream Drop Distance sets the stage for 3, well...
"There's just so many, it's gonna take so much time-" Take your time, don't be afraid :) "We were fighting this guy from day one," I'm surprised you noticed that. Watching a newbie trying to figure out KH from the least contexted trailers is hilarious.
I guess his reocurrence is more noticeable when watching the trailers back to back like that 😅 Also yea I love trying to figure out stuff from trailers because nothing is conceptualized so everything could mean anything.
you skipped the trailers for Coded (or Re:Coded) and for Dream Drop Distance. Re:Coded was in 2.5 and DDD was in 2.8, but they also came as games before that.
Welcome. Always glad to have more in the fandom. As others have said, there's a lot to the lore but it does make sense. I'm in agreement that release order is the most natural way to be introduced to all the lore with all its context. The contention regarding play order comes from two places: First, the modern collection lists "358 Days over 2" out of release order since it was first rereleased on the "1.5 Collection" rather than the "2.5 Collection". Second, there will always a crowd that assumes timeline order should be sufficient for any series regardless of the context of a prequel's release and/or narrative.
32:15 Dunno if you recognized the voice but that's Leonard Nimoy doing Xheanort's voice. He did such an amazing job as him, it's such a shame he died before the third game. They had to get a different VA for that and you can definitely tell it's not the same person speaking.
Oh, no I didn't recognize it! I've never seen Star Trek, but that's cool that he did the voice, but sad that he passed and they had to make the change. I didn't notice the change, but also there was a lot of stuff going on, haha.
The absolute disbelief in your voice when _Chicken Little_ of all characters popped up LOL. Believe me, even back when the movie was relevant, we were all thinking the same thing!
This is not a spoiler, and isn’t even a big function of the game, but the black cloaks allow safe passage through a realm of darkness, so they can be worn by anyone, heroes and villains.
In the franchise, the first game is appreciated because is what sets the bases of everything. The most loved game is Kingdom Hearts 2 for its dynamic gameplay and so many bosses to test your strenght. The least liked game is Kingdom Hearts Re-Coded, which doesn't affect much at the story but is still canon. The most emotional game is 358/2 days, not because of its gameplay, but because of the story, the story of one of the most loved characters of the franchise. And Birth by Sleep is also phraised for answering so many questions that were left open on the games before it.
I'm not gonna mention the plot... but what I will mention is that Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 that were re-released on modern consoles and PC are slightly different than the ones in the original American release. In the original launch, they were just Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2... but Japan would get Kingdom Hearts Final Mix versions for 1 and 2.. which was basically the same as the base game but with extra content like additional bosses, extra cutscenes, and special items.... and for some weird reason the normal enemies in KH1 Final Mix were given completely different color palettes than the ones in the original launch. (I recommend looking at a video about it AFTER you beat the game because it's one of the only things where the Original did it better than the Final Mix version.)
I will say while playing the series, the story makes sense however watching just the trailers…the story doesn’t make sense. Also I don’t know if they made a trailer for it (I’m pretty sure they did) but you missed Melody of Memory.
Hi Gilbetta! A quick aside for you if you do play this wonderful series, there's a lot of releases and re-releases, and remasters and... just. Wow. When you play, go in order of 1.5, 2.5, 2.8, 3. The games are listed in those megapackages in correct playing order. Like turning pages in a book. They're on every modern platform including PC (but like, don't play it on switch it's horrid) and they're ordered in play order. The only downside is that two of the games are not converted to a new engine and were instead made into movies. These are KH: 358/2 and KH RE:Coded. These are both games that were not converted to the PS2/3/4 like Chain. I would personally say play 358 if you can, but if not the movie acceptable. Coded was literally on flip phones, released as RE:Coded for DS. RE by the way is just the game's way of saying 'this is the version you should play' before they used .5's But yeah, not only are the x.5 editions of the games remasters of the original releases, they have INSANE bugfixes that make them playable. In original KH1 there is no joystick camera control, for instance. 1.5 fixed that. They also added a bunch of content that wasn't possible on the original releases, like things the engine just couldn't handle or content that was Japan exclusive. So in short, no matter what you do play on the latest .5 and .8 releases.
Hahaha 😂"blood packed" I've played the first two games when they came out, but my interest in it kind of fell off after chain of memories came out..
