Teslacam Stories is a series of Tesla owners' real experiences told by the Tesla Dashcam and Sentry Mode videos. All incidents are recorded from Tesla vehicles and submitted to this channel by other Tesla enthusiasts. She wasn't driving badly and everyone travels too close on the highway but people need to leave more space especially in the rain. I've had people closer to me routinely than what she did. It's rare to have the vehicle in front escape the rear end collision like that and leave no option for the following vehicles. I assume she will be considered 100% at fault and pay huge insurance premiums moving forward.
Every time I see a parent give a teenager a brand new Tesla, BMW, Mercedes I instantly think there goes a future entitled jerk that think the world evolves around them. Seriously, you give a 16 year old a car and don't even teach them what to do in case of an accident? I bought my own car back in the 80's when I was a teen and first thing I was taught was how to change my tires and what to do in case of accident because we didn't have a cell phone yet to call for assistance. Love her excuse, well if I leave an appropriate Gap someone will get in front of me. So what??? She won't learn from this because Mommy and Daddy will just pay the increases anyway.
Terrible driver, Tesla ruined with a hideous anime wrap, calling her daddy as soon as she causes a collision, dodging accountability for the accident she caused...
She just fits that archetype so perfectly it's terrifying.
Lyla was 100% at fault. It doesn't matter if you think other people will cut in front you need to maintain a safe distance

Do people happily join my lane and thus force me to slow down? Yes.
Do I care? Most of the time not. Cause in the end I get where I wanna go - maybe 2 minutes later than I could have.

Agree, the gap was only about 1 second. I would allow at least three seconds in good conditions, and this was in the rain.

I see this happen all the time at the GM dealership I work at. We remove one of a vehicles wheels for a tire repair and the display gives warnings that the tire pressure is at 0 psi.
Traffic cutting in front of you is no excuse to tailgate. Your life is always more important than your ego
The point is that traffic filling the "gap" puts you in a position where you are *now* tailgating someone. Get it?
Lyla is about to learn that traffic cutting in front of you doesn't cost you any money, but hitting someone in front of you to prevent the former does.

@@Furious321 Double your following distance and you won't be impacted as you will have plenty of time to stop. Try it, you'll be surprised how few cars cut in. I know this because this is how I drive. You don't even need to tap the brakes, you just lift off the accelerator. If that doesn't work for you, treble your following distance

You never do the speed limit in rain. A car requires a greater stopping distance in rain.

I had something similar happen to me. Like Lyla, I had nowhere to go when it happened. I was following a car at night on a highway bridge, keeping a decent amount of space between me and them. While I was doing this, I was passing a bus in the slow lane. Without any warning, the car I was following jerked right. Ahead of him was a sea of traffic cones. I knew there was a construction zone up ahead, but the last sign I saw said that both lanes where thru.
With my choice being hit the jersey barrier on my left, hit the bus on my right, or plow into the cones, I took the cones. Thankfully I was just ahead of the bus, because one got jammed up in the wheel well and jerked the steering wheel out of my hands, sending me right, across the front of the bus, and into the barrier of the bridge I was on. This was back in the 90s so no dash cams then. I got a ticket for "following too closely" and my car was totalled.
A year later I was involved in a class action lawsuit about that same spot. Seems that the city had mismarked the signage warning about the construction zone and a lot of people had wrecked there because of it. This is one of the reasons I really dislike darkly tinted windows. I could not see through the car I was following, so had no idea what was ahead of them.
Each one of the folks who tell their insurance company something other than the truth, such as the Toyota driver who side swiped the Tesla and said they were both changing lanes, should be charged with attempted insurance fraud.

It's a small rural town in Arkansas (yes, the video says Arizona, the scenery and area code don't match that, but they do match Arkansas). It's pretty unlikely that'll happen. Here in the US, you really only see underground power cables in urban and suburban areas, particularly wealthier ones like Dallas and Salt Lake City.

11:16 Look at the Honda driver's expression - it's like Julian is at fault while the Honda failed to maintain its lane.
Julian is supposed to give right of way to car going in the roundabout, since he is in the inner lane and is taking exit while the right car is going still in roundabout.
@@farkes2443 Look at the road markings - visible 11:07, Julian can go straight ahead or left. The Honda, being in the right hand lane, should take the 1st exit (right) or 2nd (straight ahead).
@@michaelmclachlan1650 that's not how roundabout works at all. Alongside the fact that the lines are not full, so you can exit or continue, also I don't know how it works for you but rule of right hand right of way should apply in most of the world.
@@farkes2443 I live where roundabouts are common and that's exactly how they work; if the Honda was able to take the 3rd (left) exit the road markings would not show that Julian could go straight ahead but only left.

One thing I find interesting is how most of everyone's suggestions involve alliteration, which is a bit odd, as the one that started it "HondaBump" isn't alliterative, but I can definitely understand why people tend to use it.
Someone else (I looked it up: it was @TheSanpletext) in another reply suggested "ToyoTap" rather than "ToyotaTap", which I kind of like because it simply extends the name of the car rather than adding a whole word.

That's a trend in other brands as well - new vehicles are more expensive to repair due to the number of sensors and other modules that can be damaged.
That's the unfortunate nature of technological development.

As someone who lives on that stretch of I-405, Lyla is full of it. Drivers around here are not competent enough to make a lane change in even good conditions, she had minimal risk of being cut off. She was driving way too close, OVER the speed limit, in conditions that are not good even by Washington standards, coming up on the I-5 interchange that is inevitably going to back up at rush hour. She was driving irresponsibly, and she's lucky nobody was hurt.

Not necessarily the repair shop; most likely the insurance company. My insurance tried to total my LEAF after I caught a deer. Only damage was to the left fender, the hood (which I was able to bend back), bumper cover and headlight assembly. Parts and labor to fix will be 7k (most of which is legit the cost of parts), and they somehow figured that 7k is 80% of the 13.9k value they quoted for the buyout. Yeah, that math don’t math. The shop was more than willing to do the work, but the insurance company didn’t want to pay to fix it; only replace it. And hey, that’s their choice; just like it’s my choice to tell them to drink bleach.
It don’t be the mechanic shops fault. It’s the insurance companies that will total a car out. I’m not sure if you know.

Had a Lyla behind me not 2 weeks ago, but closer and in far worse conditions. She got upset because I passed her while she was being extra careful driving way under the speed limit (as she should). As she chased me I boxed her in behind me with obstructions only in our lane ahead. Done exactly what the truck done without even warning Lyla with a brake tap. Lyla had a great time learning a high value lesson that day 😂

Lyla lives a very lavish life driving a tesla. When I was 16, I drove a 1997 Ford Escort that I had to pay for myself. Nonetheless, I'm glad she's okay. Hopefully, this crash teaches her to be more careful, especially in wet conditions.

Lyla, people cutting into the space in front or you is no excuse. You just drop back again to create more space. Also, keep in mind that there are a lot of drivers who wait until the last second to avoid an obstacle in front of them. If you are following them closely, they will sucker you into crashing, just like this driver did here. In a couple of the other clips, It blows my mind that apparently there are a lot of people out there who do not check their rear view mirror while they are driving or stopped. A car speeds up to hit you and you never saw it coming? What are you doing, daydreaming?

1:23 Sad thing: a Tesla with radar would have detected/spotted the still cars even with the jeep in front. There was a viral video a few years ago where a Tesla sounded an alarm because a few cars ahead of the car that the Tesla was following crashed.

9:30 Here, I'll talk about the tank for David. It's either an M53 or M55 self-propelled artillery gun. I actually don't know the difference between the 53 and the 55 unless it's _just_ the cannon. I believe this particular SPG is the 55 variant with the shorter barrel.
I'm also fairly certain they were built on a modified M46/47 Patton chassis, but definitely don't quote me there.
I don't understand the many "rim damages ". I've been driving for 43 years and only had rim damage on 4 occasions. Two were completely my fault for not paying attention . The others happened when I was forced over to avoid someone hitting me.
I don't understand it either, especially with cars that have parking cameras for parallel parking, or that can self-park.

The the best line in the video is the driver talking about only being 16 years old and never being in a car accident as if that is something impressive. That's not a good record. It's like saying you lost your first fight and now you are 0 and 1.
Let this be a learning lesson for Lyla. It doesn’t matter if people decide to cut you off.
Defensive driving is crucial such as leaving a good space in front of cars, not being in people’s blind spot, and having good situational awareness.
Never let ego cloud your judgement when someone’s being a douchebag at driving. It’s not worth picking a fight against them if you’re never going to see them again.
One of many reason for me not to own a Tesla. Too expesive repair costs concidering it being owned by a billionaire. Like the ladder incident at 3:00. 11000$ for a mistake. That's 50% of what I make a year!
I just had 3 panels repaired on my Toyota Corolla for $7500 Canadian from insurance. This included 2-3 panels + side door mirror and windshield.

CURB YOUR TIRES ON HILLS:
When you park on a slope (more than a 3 percent grade), angle your front wheels so if your vehicle were hit or its brakes were to fail, it would roll into the curb and not into traffic.
• Headed downhill, turn your front wheels into the curb or toward the side of the road. Headed uphill, turn your front wheels away from the curb and let your vehicle roll back a few inches. The
wheel should gently touch the curb.
• Always set your parking brake and leave the vehicle in gear or in “park” or “P” position.
That is taught in every state.
12 - Now THAT is an honest company he's doing business with! Be sure and spread the word to get them more business. It is hard to find good, honest businesses anymore.

I've never curbed my wheels (I'm almost 20 and have been driving since I was 15), but it's most likely because I rarely even get close to curbs and my car is either in my family's shed (3 cars but only 2 car garage) or outside on the grass path near the shed.
I try not to park close to anyone else when I go out either.
#15 I was taught to look in my rear-view mirror for this reason. I always do that when approaching an intersection or when traffic comes to a quick stop. It really helps to have warning that something bad is about to happen. I'm glad everyone is ok!
#14 Don't make excuses for driving closely to others. Even if others take advantage of the space ahead of you, you can still keep your distance. It's saved my butt many times on the freeway. I wish more drivers understood how important that is because I swear that 99% of drivers don't.
