  • Marsupilami : Hoobadventure review on Nintendo Switch. Marsupilami Hoobadventure is a 2021 game by Ocellus Studio and published by Microids. Available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
    Available on amazon amzn.to/2YQeH11
    Punch, Twister and Hope are three Marsupilamis living a peaceful life in Palombia. Their lives are about to take a drastic turn when they accidentally open a sarcophagus whilst playing with debris on a beach, releasing a mysterious ghost cursing all the animals! Thankfully, our three Marsupilamis are immune to the curse and decide to set out on an adventure, find the ghost and reverse the curse.
    Inspired by the comic book Marsupilami from Franquin, this 2.5D platformer takes you on a colorful journey through the Palombian jungle, a coastal city and even an abandoned temple. Jump, punch, dash and swing with your tail like only Marsupilamis do!

    In case anyone's interested in some Marsupilami lore.
    The three playable Marsupilamis are named "Bibu" (the yellow boy), "Bibi" (the girl) and "Bobo" (the black one). They're siblings and their the children of the original Marsupilami (or "Marsu" as he's called) from the shows. Yes shows, the Disney one wasn't the only version and it actually deviated a lot from the original Spirou comics version. He didn't talk for one (well sort of, he only says "Houba") and he wasn't friends with a gorilla named Maurice. Bibu, Bibi and Bobo are from those original comics, albeit they were babies. Their mother, and Marsu's mate, is a female Marsupilami called "Marsupilamie" (or "La Marsu" for short). Another difference is that Norman wasn't in it, although their was a hunter, but his name is, and I'm not making this up... "Bring M. Backalive".
    Also in case anyone's wondering, "Marsupilami" is a portmanteau of "Marsupial" and "Ami" (French for "Friend", "Amie" is the feminine version of the word). Marsupilamis are also oviparous mammals (they lay eggs), like platypuses or echidnas, and their diet in the wild consists of fruit and piranhas (hence why they're collectibles in this game). As well as their long prehensile tails, they're also extremely physically strong and highly intelligent. Also, while the males say "Houba", the females say "Houbi" and the babies just say "Bi". They come in yellow with black spots or completely black, the latter seems to be quite rare. They live in the jungles of Palombia which (I think) is in South America.
    The other shows, which were produced by Marathon, the people behind Totally Spies and Martin Mystery, were "Marsupilami", "Mon Ami Marsupilami" ("My Friend Marsupilami"), "Marsupilami Houba Houba Hop!" and "Nos Voisons Les Marsupilamis" ("Our Neighbors The Marsupilamis"). These shows are more in line with the Spirou comics' version, although one thing they have in common (baring the first one) is that they each feature a cast of human characters who befriend the Marsupilamis. They've usually got an overarching environmental/animal welfare message to them as well with the heroic human characters usually being scientists that are researching Marsupilamis to help preserve them (since they're a rare species) and the villains being poachers who want to capture and sell off the Marsupilamis or greedy industrialists who want to deforest Polumbia. There was also a film released called "Sur la Piste du Marsupilami" ("On the Trail of Marsupilami", it was renamed "Houba! On the Trail of the Marsupilami" in the English dub) which was one of those live action affairs where Marsu was rendered in CGI.
    The Marsupilami franchise is actually a spin-off of the Spirou comic "Spirou & Fantastico" where the titular creature first appeared in the twelve volume of the comic called "Le Nid des Marsupilamis" ("The Nest of the Marsupilamis") and they quickly became so popular that they got their own shows and lines of merchandise, including this game.
    Right, now that I've dumped that on you, I'll bid you and your comment section farewell.
    Houba!

      The ‘Houba Houba Hop’ part sparked a memory in me and I thought I’d share. There’s a song by Dennie Christian called ‘Wij Zijn Twee Vrienden’ (we are two friends). Telstar Music Weert has a lyrics version of it, but the whole song is in Dutch and sung from the perspective of ‘Guus Flater’ and the Marsupilami.

    Really reminds me of that Yooka Laylee sequel, especially with the feathers. Add a pinch of Tropical Freeze and I think I have this game nailed down. I remember watching the cartoon on Saturday Disney, and it would always have unrelated Disney shorts in-between two mini episodes, mainly ones about Sebastion from The Little Mermaid. I actually wasn't aware that it was based on a book series and that the video game is based on the original adaptation and not the Disney show. So I was kind of intrigued in getting it. Just not enough to pay full price for it, given how short it is.

  • @MikeRox83
    @MikeRox83 2 года назад +1

    Okay I'm interested, though "it's been 8 years since the last Rayman" really did hurt far more than it should have! Is it 60fps on Switch? I generally seem to find Switch is my natural physical purchase preference, so long as it is 60fps (if the other versions are) heh.

      Good question but I’m not sure 💯 I’m also not sure if the series x or ps5 versions are faster etc but from what I played it ran smoothly enough and for a good few solid hours of enjoyment I can’t argue 😃

      (Edited) This video seems to accurately show the performance now, as it lines up with the other ones I've seen: it looks like the game tries to do 60fps on Switch, but only hits its target in smaller areas.
      A lot of it is more like 35-45fps in reality.
