Congratulations... you have always been great since the Indie movies. You had such great chemistry... great talent and yes always follow your dreams!!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏
Not only was the number of Asian roles a challenge, but it's also challenging when someone becomes famous as a child. Many times they can't blend seamlessly into an adult actor. And, really I LOVE this actor as such a wonderful person, but have to admit he has a very atypical speech pattern, and that probably narrows available roles too. But despite all of that, his character and his talent came through. I loved seeing him with Ford and seeing Spielberg seeing this. How momentous and I can't wait to see him in more roles that do justice to his talent!
the last part, that message, it pierced to my heart. I know there's a lot work to be done but I will never give up. This dream is not for me alone now, this dream is for my family. Kudos to my lil idiana jones.
Oscar this year definitely won back its quality and respect. For several years, there were so many scandals and dramas that took the focus away from the winners, I love that this year it's truly about hard-working amazing people, who got their spotlights and can spread inspiration.
Not many child star managed to better or transit their acting career to adulthood. Either they gotten sick of it, or be tainted by fame and went to drug or drink. This one is a success story behind many failed ones.
Jodie Foster was a child actor who went on to become a 2x Best Actress winner at the Oscars. Legendary career! Jennifer Connelly did really well for herself too.
I ADMIRE HIM WHEN HE WAS STILL YOUNG,I BECOME EMOTIONAL SEEING WITH FORD,FORDS MOVIES WITH HIM IS HIS BEST NOW AT MY AGE OF 70YRS I STILL WATCH SOME RE RUNS OR IN CD
I haven't caught the Oscar's in years. Mostly because of the b.s. But, this year seems to have been a good one, with great actors, that many got their due. Glad to see a lot of them, did.
I bawled my bloody guts out when he won, and every clip like this I see I cry my eyes out all over again, blubbering like a baby, I loved him back then and even more now, so happy for you man. ❤ aussie girl xxxxx
Quite a moment to see Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) on stage with Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford, now age 80) who tried to hand him the Best Picture statue either as a mistake or a kind gesture. Meanwhile at the front of the audience were Steven Speilberg, and his wife Kate Capshaw who co-starred with Shorty and Dr. Jones (as Willie Scott) in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Reunited after 39 years!
I do not know how to explain my feeling as seeing him winning and yea his speech in Oscar, and knowing what he deal with for years. I am happy for him and also feel the struggling he had and yes even live could be ups and downs and maybe due to our priorities, reasons some of us change, and give up our dreams. However, even for people give up dreams, we can still have new one. All dreams takes our efforts, time to achieve and I can only hope for all, things turn our the way we hope as it is positive and good.
I can't believe he's that little boy. Now I feel like every dream can come true if we work hard. Feel so touched to see how Harrison Ford interacted with him after be got the award. Love and respect shown to us. Congrats, Ke. You did it. God bless you all.
something happened on life, which i lost all passion on life, i think i need to loop the speech at the end everyday, so i can keep on to find a dream that i will keep staying alive
It's a true dream come true to see the young actors we grew up with fall down and then rise above on such achievements 🙌 🙏 ✨️ 👏 👌 ❤️. Brendan was shut out from Hollywood for a while, and Ke left for his own reasons. Sadly, some of the lives were lost too soon, such as River Phoenix and Corey Haim. The many who have lived on have really made a difference in the entertainment industry and have inspired us not to give up on our dreams. It's okay to change roles in life, and if you want something bad enough, it takes work, but you can reach your goals and be successful. Amen 🙏
Its a beautiful movie and whats funny is that I didnt really see it as “asian” movie but as a family movie. What a lovely video on Ke. Many many congratulations ❤
Im sorry for all the speeches years before, but his made my eyes water. His reaction was so true to heart, and that little message of his at the end "keep your dreams alive." Wow, it made me smile with my watery eyes as i watched it. 👏👏
As heartwarming as this story is, the real test for whether there is any meaningful change going forward, will be the extent that there are acting opportunities for Asians (and, in particular - Asian males) when casting decisions are being made. It is notable that the two movies most commonly referenced as advancing Asian representation in film (Crazy Rich Asians, and now Everything Everywhere All At Once) both guaranteed Asian casting because of some central premise of the film (You can't easily cast white actors, when the Asian identity of the character is central to the premise of the film). Outside of such a premise, the reality that Ke Huy Quan faced is that (up to now) nobody in Hollywood wanted to cast Asian actors (in the case of Asian men - basically not at all, in the case of Asian women - generally only as sex objects). Indeed this prejudice is so strong that even where a character is written to be Asian, this can be 'retconned' to turn the character White (see: Marvel's 'Ancient One', which would have required hiring an Asian Male - rewritten to have a white female), or just have a White actress playing the role of a half-Asian character (see: Emma Stone in Aloha). Sometimes, the entire cast can be rewritten to be white - except for the villain, who stays Asian (see: Avatar, the Last Airbender). Or, the source material/context is conveniently ignored in order to have a white Actress (see: Scarlett Johansson in Ghost in the Shell). Which is not to say that any single decision to make a character White is necessarily wrong. However, when everyone does it, you end up with Ke Huy Quan's situation - where there are simply no opportunities for decades on end because you're Asian (I note that 'diversity' in media since the 90's up to maybe a few years ago in practice meant 'Black'). So the real test from this: For films/media where the race of the character isn't a central premise to the show, what opportunities exist for Asians?
Yes what you say is true but what about Latinos. There are more Latinos than Asians in the US and do they have fair representation these days? It’s kind of an up and down cycle for all.
Ke Huy Quan is a perfect example of why I've never met a Vietnamese that I didn't like. They're such great people. They make the best of friends. So happy for Mr. Quan. Congratulations... you have always been great since the Indie movies. You had such great chemistry... great talent and yes always follow your dreams!!!! 👏 👏 👏 👏
I cried with happiness at the oscars for him and Brendan ! Amazing actors !
damn.. this really moved me to tears.. great actor, great person.. well-deserved.. congratualtions Ke
Short Round, one of my favourite characters of all time. I’m so happy for him. What an amazing story to never give up.
He deserves this Oscar so much!!!!
This man deserves nothing but good fortune. He was a great kid actor I'd thought I'd see more of but I'm glad he's back.
What a beautiful soul, i cried with the acceptance speach.
Oscar this year definitely won back its quality and respect. For several years, there were so many scandals and dramas that took the focus away from the winners, I love that this year it's truly about hard-working amazing people, who got their spotlights and can spread inspiration.
I love him he's the embodiment of the American spirit even though adversity and turmoil
That was a year jerker. What a beautiful human being. His speech was heart felt, so sincere!❤❤❤❤❤
Not many child star managed to better or transit their acting career to adulthood.
Either they gotten sick of it, or be tainted by fame and went to drug or drink.
This one is a success story behind many failed ones.
Yeah but a lot of child actors do go on to be successful adult actors --- Christian Bale, Sean Astin, Elijah Wood, and Ke Huy Quan are good examples
@@kerzytibok3211 And the biggest of them all..Elizabeth Taylor.
@@kerzytibok3211 Leonardo DiCaprio, Scarlett Johansson, Drew Barrymore, Natalie Portman, it's quite a list
Jodie Foster was a child actor who went on to become a 2x Best Actress winner at the Oscars. Legendary career! Jennifer Connelly did really well for herself too.
@@xSaintOfSinnersx yes I knew a left a bunch out --- so the idea that all child actors fail as adults is just a myth
Not many things get me tearing up. Watching this definitely had me doing so. So happy for him.
I tear up watching the last clip again. 😢. It’s wonderful and so happy he won.
So glad he got acknowledgments and decided to come back to the show business.
I'm so glad you've gotten this opportunity, and hit it out of the park.
Such a wonderful man! I'm so very happy for him! Happy Tears!
Wow - that was far more inspirational than I expected it to be. Great video! Its like a min-doc.
I am so happy that he won!
I can't believe he's that little boy. Now I feel like every dream can come true if we work hard. Feel so touched to see how Harrison Ford interacted with him after be got the award. Love and respect shown to us. Congrats, Ke. You did it. God bless you all.
Watching this and remembering that cute little asian kid (and wondering whatever happened to...) brought tears to my eyes. So very happy for him!
Happy you came back we missed you ❤️
He has a comedian look. He is a natural story teller. It is a matter of finding a right movies.
something happened on life, which i lost all passion on life, i think i need to loop the speech at the end everyday, so i can keep on to find a dream that i will keep staying alive
Amen 🙏
Love you Ke! Glad you came back to acting.👏🏾
Short Round is such an iconic character, I’m glad and happy he was able to win an Oscar as an adult 🔥🔥🔥
Its a beautiful movie and whats funny is that I didnt really see it as “asian” movie but as a family movie. What a lovely video on Ke. Many many congratulations ❤
It’s about time…. The biggest come back ever. So proud of them all ❤
Representation is so important! Congratulations to Ke Huy Quan! I stand with the Asian Community! I stand with the AANHPI Community!
Im sorry for all the speeches years before, but his made my eyes water. His reaction was so true to heart, and that little message of his at the end "keep your dreams alive." Wow, it made me smile with my watery eyes as i watched it. 👏👏
What a kid ! What a MAN now !
Cases like scarlet johansen in ghost shell is to use a popular actress to make a film more interesting to watch.
Ke Huy Quan is a perfect example of why I've never met a Vietnamese that I didn't like. They're such great people. They make the best of friends. So happy for Mr. Quan. I was 10 in 1980 so I lived the 80s as a teen to the fullest and I still remember enjoying watching his movies. So very happy for him.
I like hearing those stories. Glad he never gave up on his dream. He's a good actor.
What a powerful speech ! 🎉❤
Very motivational and inspiring. It’s that silent voice in our thoughts that we bend to. And we say what is it, what am I not doing good. He is just the mirror of many bright minds out there. And he moves me to not stop and keep believing.
Magnifique! Vive Ke Huy! Vive les Gonnies! Félicitations from Belgium! 👋
OMG,HE HAS THE SAME VOICE.I WAS. SO EMOTIONAL SEEING HIM WITH FORD
