What they don't say is that staff are so overworked and understaffed that mistakes are being made. Heads should roll in the higher ups too. So sorry for the family's tragic loss.
Doctors must be held responsible for the blatant neglect of your daughters care I'm so sorry for your loss I hope you get to the bottom of this and get the answers you need for you and your family
This is truly sad. Especially when you learn in hindsight that it's a series of mistakes/misjudgement. I pray we still have enough doctors and nurses to improve our ED situation ❤
They don’t care? Regardless of how lacking your budget is, you can still care. Two parents, a husband and her children will never be the same. Thanks to people who should but don’t care. Individuals and the hospital failed this family
This is happening all over the country. Here in Hastings instead of hiring more staff, Hawkes Bay Hospital are putting that money towards raising awareness about the Rainbow Community. Meanwhile, patients are waiting longer, staff are overworked, patients are being misdiagnosed or dismissed. A middle aged guy had gone to Hawkes Bay Hospital complaining of chest pain. They did not have the correct training nor equipment and sent him home. He then went to a hospital, newly built and privately owned. They told him he had had a heart attack and he only has a few weeks to live, he was then rushed in for emergency surgery. This is one of MANY stories here in the Hawkes Bay and it's so sad this happening elsewhere. People make mistakes, I get that. But when someone's life is on the line, there can't be!! #HeadsHaveToRoll
I woke up feeling like i was dying, called the ambulance got a light check up, had the crisis team called on me because of my high anxiety (i have c-ptsd, ptsd and chronic fatigue ), got sent home after 3 hours, had extreme case of gastro for a month. This was new plymouth. I keep getting misdiagnosed because they're too scared to use resources, took 5 years to get my chronic fatigue diagnosed and 6 for ptsd. Unless its obvious good luck and god speed to all of you because there is a failure somewhere.
Its actually amazing it doesn't happen more often the times people have to wait when they are clearly ( to me a patient waiting to be seen ) very unwell.
Gees I staged in a little hospital in Warren NSW I drove myself 30 klms with pneumonia diagnosed in minutes and on a stretcher in emergency room. They had no beds so that where I stayed for 24 hrs until a bed became available. I would have died in the car if they sent me away. Hard to believe someone that sick could be sent home. My deepest condolences to the family.
You get what you pay for, us Kiwis are short sighted. Increase base tax rate to 30% , remove all these hidden taxes in GST on basic items such as Food and Fuel but leave them for luxury goods. Start funding our medical, mental health, education, police/military correctly. Close all the tax loopholes that allow the wealthy/companies to hide away their money. Stop voting in governments that offer lower taxes because that means services the state provides are going to deteriorate. Medical staff are overworked and under funded and whos to blame...WE ALL ARE.
Australian emergency hospitals are no better. A young 19 year old girl went to a Melbourne hospital coughing up blood. The nurse told her to visit her doctor and get a prescription for a CT scan !!!!!! Instead of the hospital carrying out the scan immediately!!
This is so sad. I'm very sorry for you all. Let that hurt drive you and every one of us to reject these failed govt ministries. They just keep letting us all down to the point of death, despair and devastation. This is totally unacceptable as are the so called processes to complain and attempt to prevent, it all just goes nowhere. So so sorry for you all
Disgusting! I am so so sorry this has happened, my condolences to this whanau ❤ I am so angry at our health system. As a nurse myself, it sickens me to see how the system has deteriorated since I first graduated 27 years ago. Incompetence, lack of accountability, lack of respect and compassion towards patients and I have been on that other side and I can say I have never been so disheartened by a complete lack of understanding, lack of listening and lack of action when it comes to serious health issues I have been facing. No one cares, she is right.
The family of Janelle should fight all the way for justice... don't give up.... Janelle should have been given antibiotics straight away... I remember reading a letter to the Herald about an elderly man whose wife was in hospital and begging the staff to give her antibiotics...they finally did....there have been many studies done overseas and here around weaning populations off antibiotics....why I don't know.....they work for goodness sake....earlier this year my water works (slang for going for a pee) wasn't good... I knew i had a bladder infection....so I went to my doctor who wrote out a script for antibiotics.....no hesitation whatsoever! I am so sorry for Janelle's family...her death was preventable.....heads must roll....but I doubt it will happen....nobody in positions of authority wants to take responsibility these day's....they did in the old days!
Why isn’t there a test available to identify the level of infection and the specific types of bacteria and viruses in her blood? Is DHB not equipped with the necessary technology for such tests? When my child had pneumonia, he underwent similar blood tests, which helped doctors quickly determine the right treatment-antibiotics, inhalers, and more-leading to his recovery..
Aww man 🥺 all the love to Janelles parents husband & daughters.. there is no real justice for an innocent life lost when it comes to the medical industry.. they've been getting away with negligence & harm for years.. nothing could ever repair the damage of their failures to provide basic adequate health care to Janelle and many MANY others.. this family is suffering because of reckless staff.. that hospital should be on trial for murder it was their failures that took her life away from her loved ones 😡😭🫂💛🕊
So sorry for your loss. I have heard from ED staff, insist on investigations and do not leave your family member alone. The assumption a fever is the result of a virus is dangerous. 😢
HDC allow this to happen they are not doing enough to bring around change. My uncle toni died because of negligence i have been injuryed by negligence. HDC allows them to aplogise at best. Look on line shame we cannot do this for a parking ticket. They have a look after there mates mentally. It wont be long there will be another loss because of negligence. I am sorry for your loss no one can ever know the pain felt from negligence unless you live through it.
Here in Whitianga my daughter went to our local medical center twice but was sent away both times as it being in her head. When 2 days later she couldn’t breathe I called the ambulance and they wouldn’t transport her as the said her oxygen levels were low but not bad enough to transport her. I called the emergency Dr who was an elderly semi retired Dr, and he gave her oxygen immediately and two shots of antibiotics with orders to come back the following day to be rechecked.. she was finally diagnosed with pneumonia.
What they don't say is that staff are so overworked and understaffed that mistakes are being made. Heads should roll in the higher ups too. So sorry for the family's tragic loss.
So sorry for your loss, I hope your bravery in speaking up about this tragic event will bring about change and justice.
That sums up healthcare in NZ
So sad for this family. Terrible treatment from those medical staff. Shame on them. That doctor should be barred from practicing.
Doctors must be held responsible for the blatant neglect of your daughters care I'm so sorry for your loss I hope you get to the bottom of this and get the answers you need for you and your family
Well done to stuff for bringing us tge story!!
How absolutely appalling.
To many are dying because of misdiagnosed by junior doctors . West coast has had 2 in the last few months. It's disgusting
Nice one Luxon, your healthcare cuts are responsible, if staff weren't so overworked for a pittance they would have caught the error.
This is truly sad. Especially when you learn in hindsight that it's a series of mistakes/misjudgement. I pray we still have enough doctors and nurses to improve our ED situation ❤
My heart goes out to the family, may God comfort you all
It's health New Zealand! and they've done an appaulling job for this woman, mother and wife, her poor parents, 🙏💕
They don’t care? Regardless of how lacking your budget is, you can still care. Two parents, a husband and her children will never be the same. Thanks to people who should but don’t care. Individuals and the hospital failed this family
This is so sad. I hope they get more support to survive this tragedy ..
So sorry for your loss.
Absolutely shocking. Good old Health New Zealand. Getting worse by the day. Just as well the rich politicians can afford private health.
Shocking! This poor family. I have know words this is heartbreaking.
That is absolutely shocking. I’m so very sorry for your loss. I hope heads do roll. 😭

Condolences to the family ❤❤🧡🧡🙏🙏
This is devistating. Our Healthcare system needs fixing. Did you know that only approximately 40% of our doctors aren't vocationally registered.
Sorry for loss😢it's horrible to hear so heart breaking , God bless your family much aroha 😢🙏
No surprise, if you’ve ever had a relative in ED.
Its actually amazing it doesn't happen more often the times people have to wait when they are clearly ( to me a patient waiting to be seen ) very unwell.
Sorry for your loss. Goss negligence on the part of the ED staff.
My heart goes out to you. All. The health system is failing to many people., thus is si sad
My condolences to the family, ❤ to them , it’s a horrific thing to occur in such a young woman.

Accountability as that is sheer negligence and inexcusable.

I am old and in Hawera. This is worrying.
Absolutely disgraceful.
Absolutely terrible,
This been happening to me and my family in NZ I just don't want. Go to the doctor anymore 😢😢😢
Wasted millions... And still a failed system.... Any other country a law suit would cost the hospital millions...
sadly to say all they will get is a apology
This is devastating 😡
Heartbreaking. Deep condolences to the family.

Shocking! Who will be held to account? No x-Ray or antibiotics? I’m not a doctor, but that would have been a start.
So sorry for your loss. I have heard from ED staff, insist on investigations and do not leave your family member alone. The assumption a fever is the result of a virus is dangerous. 😢
Our health system is a disgrace. I can attest.
😢
NZ healthcare is shocking and only going to get worse. Condolences to the family
Terrible . Parents Husband Daughters suffer now . Improve staffing . Lessen the admin overload on doctors. Must be other stuff to do as well

Some Dr's don't care, even if they'd want to, they won't be able to because it's not in them.
Typical of NZ hospitals.....comes down to money.....and slack hospital treatment.....

Will do usual apology so meaningless
Sad when ppl don't do a job there supposed to be trained for.
No surprise the health care is awful 3rd world health care
My thought & aroha goes out to this whanau.
nothing will be done because of the she'll be right attitude in nz. everyone just passes the buck.
