Whilst my dad was alive he was an ex chef that owned a couple restaurants, he met a lady from New Zealand and dated her and he would always be cooking New Zealand inspired dishes after meeting her and would go out there to stay alot he absolutely loved it. Just looking at your joy as usual and as a Aussie I respect how they protect there natural resources and we do have some limits here in Australia but New Zealand seems more protective of the natural food sources ,had family members and new a few kiwis here in Australia,it's definitely one place I love to visit , especially the meat pie thing where they reckon theres the best pies in NZ,i should start saving to go lol .

Fleur Sullivan's restaurant has a historical richness appeal reserving its unique classic style homestead on the bayside. Abalone is a delicacy of the shoreline complementing any choice of beverage. Those green lip claims looks so satisfying and refreshing. This is not your usual bbq for sure. The mutton chicken prepared with such perfection looks like a chilly day sensational treat. Moeraki is one of my favourite places in NZ have so many memories around there since I was a kid. Love going on the Moeraki fishing charters then the local pub afterwards. I do miss the awesome restaurant you went to. I’ve always wondered why they closed down.

I’ve been to Papatoetoe Night Market in Auckland. I highly recommend it. They are open on Friday nights from 6pm until 12 midnight. So much good food you will be spoilt for choice.
What a feed. I live a few hundred miles north of Fleurs Place - For those not from NZ, Whitebait is a real delicacy and very expensive. That clear plastic bag that Fleur had full of whitbait was at least $300 worth, maybe even $400
@@hertzvanrental2024it’s not the same. We can buy the Japanese whitebait here (NZ) as well, but it’s a bigger for starters and just not as nice. The whitebait in NZ comes from one particular fish that is native to New Zealand.
Great to see those cheese rolls being eaten. FYI, they are a south of the South Island delicacy often called Southland cheese rolls. Simple, but oh, so good! And as someone else commented, hope you got to try some Blue Cod.

And as a cheese lover, I want to go to that place with the cheese rolls so bad. But my favorite part was the muttonbird boil up. That looked amazing, and I loved the chef's personality. He's such a laid-back genuine nice guy.
Whitebait fritters with just egg whites whisked to soft peaks is definitely a favourite of mine. They have a very subtle flavour so not including the yolk really allows that mild flavour to come through.

Oh my gosh, I was so surprised to see him actually go around New Zealand and try some of the food that is particular to us. I don't think I've ever seen a foreigner-foodie eat a muttonbird boil up before. I don't think even Anthony Bourdain did a muttonbird boil up when he came over. But I grew up with muttonbird boil ups and he was so right when he said that its a food taste memory you don't forget. I would have also suggested a porkbone and puha or watercress boil up as well. So yummy!

Pāua is my favourite seafood. Childhood memories of Mum bashing the heck out of the Pāua and turning it into a soup with onions, tomatoes and coconut cream. Yum!

One interesting thing about mutton birds is that they're what are called "ground nesters", which means they dig burrows and lay their eggs underground (and also continue to raise the chicks there).
It's so sad that Fleur has closed her restaurant. It was where we'd go for celebrations. Her scallop dishes were sensational, and decently priced. Good to see her looking so well. I know this is a food vlog but did you go and see the Moeraki Boulders while you were there?

Night Market food is not representative of New Zealand's food culture. It is really the atmosphere that gives it authenticity, not the food itself.

jees Mark ive watched you for about 5 years and the last few places you have visited in nz this place along with Rewi the hangi master and Fleur those 3 places have provided you with what i know to be the finest food NZ has to offer and great spirits who are giving it to you. im blessed to see these episodes. a little peice of the best of my fathers lands very satisfying thank you from the top of my heart Mark very well done and i hope you enjoyed what god we do have over there. my favourite kaimoana is Kina and Paua especially the Hua Superfoods man. i am australian aboriginal Maori... to put it complexly i am paramount chief of the Anzac Indian Race left here on earth... yeah the true Anunnaki.. so i have the best of all worlds haha loaded with GOD muchlove to you and your family!! Pāua is my favourite seafood. Childhood memories of Mum bashing the heck out of the Pāua and turning it into a soup with onions, tomatoes and coconut cream. Yum!

One interesting thing about mutton birds is that they're what are called "ground nesters", which means they dig burrows and lay their eggs underground (and also continue to raise the chicks there).

It's so sad that Fleur has closed her restaurant. It was where we'd go for celebrations. Her scallop dishes were sensational, and decently priced. Good to see her looking so well. I know this is a food vlog but did you go and see the Moeraki Boulders while you were there?
