Stranger Things Theme" became the "Smoke on the Water" default of the synthesizer crowd.
Beats "Jump" and "Axel F"! (but probably never Blade Runner opening theme...)

@@jszack I hate "Jump" because I hear it on almost every poly synth demo if the person playing is over 40.
Just got my Minilogue xd. This was my “hello world” for the sequencer
Please continue with these series, they are extremely helpful to learn how to achieve a specific sound. I'm a synth novice, the XD is my first hardware synth and I love how it sounds. I also like the way it's presented, so please continue! I don't mind if these patches are 100% close to the original sound you're trying to achieve or not.

Tested this on my Minilogue XD and sound great! It would be killer to be able to keep the sequencer notes playing while in poly mode without the cuts (which happen because the note played is the same than the one happening in the background arpeggio)
Yeah that did kind of kill the whole vibe for me
That has to do with the amount of voices available in the Minilogue XD
@@AveMcree Its not about the voices. When you play a note on keyboard of the same octave of the note playing on the sequencer, the sound cuts. For exemple, if the sequencer is playing a c3, you have to play a C of a different octave, or the sound will cut.

@@AveMcree The minilogue is a 4 voice poly synth. In this video this guy is only using 3 voices (2 voices played over a bassline), so its not about the number of voices.

The voice cuts do detract a bit, but it'd be easy enough to record the melody and bassline separately into a DAW, anyway. This thing really does sound amazing! I'm definitely considering it as my first analogue synth.
Is there a trick to avoid the voice cut?
@@SHLDMusic you can use more than one to polychain. also you could stack your recordings. otherwise I know no other option
When is the xd gonna get the ability to trigger sequences from different notes like the original Minilogue did in the last update?

Yo! Korg love you guys. I need help. Why does my Init program not sound like yours ? I picked a random one. I followed instructions and knob locations to a tee and it’s just not sounding like this video. Not sure where I went wrong

I ended up with both lol the GAS got the best of me :) I will say, they are very different and I don't regret buying both beautiful instruments.
This can probably be done better in split mode on the Prologue using the arpeggiator on one split and then play live on the other. No cutting out of notes like they are using the XD

Did playing the keyboard while the arpeggiator change the arpeggiator notes? At the end the arpeggiator was doing some single notes instead of 2. Was that on purpose of were they getting cut out? Thanks!
It's only a 4 voice synth
I love my minilogue and may get the xd someday. I have a deepmind 6 and i think a deepmind 12 before this and only a few dollars more.
49 full size keys. Velocity and after touch. 4 effects channels. 12 notes of polyphany mod and pitch and on and on and on.
The mini is great so this xd is certaly as well but the 12 is next. That will give me 18 with the dm6 linked.
And 4 with my mini. I have a volca keys i can add as well as a wavestation a/d and roland do5.
A casio xwp1 which i like to use as a controller for the roland although the dm is nice with the aftertouch.
A mix of analog and digital is so much fun. I had thought of getting the prologue with its fm. I think that after the dm12 it will be this xd.
I can link the mini, xd, and volca.
The dm12, dm6, and ws a/d.
The xwp1 and ro5.
And use my dgx 230 for piano sounds.
Man i love this new generation of analogs. If you have a job you can probably afford them.
I mean MS20, Arp, the 'logues. Behringers whole lineup. The uno.
The arturias.

After having this lovely piece of machinery for awhile, these are my thoughts on it:
Some simple minor updates would get us to a much more powerful synth:
1. The Arp kinda weak in areas - Manual input not best and kinda buggy how it behaves when using it with the sequencer. Speaking of sequencer...
2. Could use more steps (32 would make a huge difference for phrasing). Without adding more steps the sequencer could be waaaay more powerful with a few sequencer modes - Random (organic)/Backward (added variation)/Forward Backward (double the steps).
3. More LFO's - and more LFO Targets like..oh I dunno...the amp (for basic tremolo effects)!?!
4. Some simple SHIFT+KNOB functionality - Like SHOFT+TEMPO KNOB allows for menu tempo value (which allows for much slower tempos). Etc, Etc.
That all being said, its an amazing when it comes to playability and sound design - very intuitive and fun to use. It's amazing...just not Really Amazing...yet (to be cont.)

If its a 4 poly voice synth, why the sound keep cutting when he plays 1 bass note over a monophonic sequence? Thats doesnt make sense.

Man, I've been wanting a Monologue or Minilogue XD for microtonal capabilities, but my friend just got a Moog Grandmother and I after hearing it I feel like Moog has kinda ruined all other synths for me

The sequencer was sounding different when you started playing notes near the end, why?
Cos it’s only 4 note polyphony so when he held the keys I guess it interrupted the sequenced notes
That 4 voice really shot you in the foot there when you started playing the other parts
I feel I made a mistake buying this synth because they updated OS for the Minilogue so you can transpose the sequences using the keyboard. They did this in June, it makes me think XD users won’t have this feature. I should’ve saved my money for the original, less expensive Minilogue.

Does anybody else find themselves suddenly being tricked by our brain and having difficulty registering the first note in this ? Makes it sound like an altogether different song xD
Being a teenager through the eighties (80's) makes this Theme tune track so very special in so many ways, that 'newbs' just won't get it!!!! A stroke of Genius was at hand here without the realisation it was so ! Back to this video and Nice demo by the way ;-)

There's nothing wrong with the instrument, the sequence is to complicated to achieve with only 4 voices. If he polychains another XD it would sound better.

You need two of them...8 voices.
Yes. The 8 voice Prologue should do it correctly. The 16 voice one can do it effortlessly

Man, Korg, if you want to sell this thing this is not the way to go about it. A cheesy patch and a cheesier song.

I noticed that the voice stealing is awful. I'll just stick with my monologue for bass.
naumchomsky It’s not voice stealing, rather the bassline is using notes from the sequence itself...
@@shebilzaveri weird. I would think polyphony applied to the running sequence. Either way, it's noticeable and kinda jarring.

@@jamesl542 digitone is super fun, sound is good but the workflow is the main reason i will never sell it :) Few days ago i bought also novation peak (different price tag but it is worth every single penny)
