    I've stopped on 33.35 Before your conclusion, so I can give my conclusion, not on the minilogue XD, I mean we all know its awesome! BUT on Woochias performance. MAN! you really know your stuff, and when mine arrives I will be playing and replaying this tutorial/review many times as I learn and try to understand what everything does and how everything affects everything else, I know it will be a long journey(I'm not a muso) but with your help it will be easier. I loaded the Korg Minilogue XD ULTIMATE PATCHES Vol 123 and I really don't need anything else. IT saves so much time, the patches are just spot on to a lot of pop 80's + sounds, which is a fantastic place to start building. The sequences are excellent too.

    That's the best video about this device I have seen. So informative and detailed. I loved it, especially the fact that you talked about every little thing you did. Because of problems with eye sight I sometimes find it difficult to follow different youtube tutorials. People tend to say something like: this knob chooses types of something. But I can't see neither which knob they mean nor what types of choosen thing are being selected. You however talked about everything, available options, actions you performed etc. You even described the whole device in such order that I could easily sit in front of one and follow your instructions no problem. You have no idea how helpful it might turn out to be for me in the future. Thank you very much for that! 😀❣️

    I used to spend most of my time sequencing - but with the xd, I find myself just imputing a few notes on the sequencer, pressing play, and getting lost in sound exploring. Really easy to get lofi textured sounds. A few more LFOs and more arp and sequencer modes (random, ping pong, reverse) would be huge with a new update!

    Great video, very thorough!! I'm new to making music (or trying to), bought a midi keyboard controller a while ago now (akai mpk 249) which I think is great and versatile but I am actually really starting to dislike the whole vst scene. I'm spending so much time just trying to figure out how the thing works, and to get it to play nicely with my computer, and then trying to map controls to vst's, I just want to explore sounds and actually create things. I want to buy my first hardware synth and am trying to figure out what I really want/need. I was thinking of a Bass Station 2 but then came across the Minilogue for the same price. Now I see the XD and all it can do (thank you) and I think I've made up my mind! I like that the Minilogue can be poly and mono where the Bass Station 2 is just Mono. It's simple and uncluttered layout makes it very approachable for a noob like me. Tons of custom user slots, multi engine, custom oscillators, Korg quality and sleek styling. The OLED waveform display is the icing on the cake for me ALL SYNTHS SHOULD HAVE THIS!!! That's it, I'm buying one!!!

    • @saladdays180s9
      @saladdays180s9 5 лет назад +2

      I am proud to be buying the Minilogue XD as a first synth for my stepson. His 19th B-day party is this Saturday 2-8. It is appropriate though, as he was exposed to synthesizers through experiencing them down in my basement.
      Like you, I was happy plodding along with a Korg digital workstations from the early 1990's, and then eventually an Korg Oasys, then VSTs. I finally had saved some money for another keyboard around 9 years ago and was looking at things like the Roland phantom, woo hoo!. My keyboard exposure revolved around Guitar Center type stores, and I'd drool at whatever romplers the were pushing. I was looking for the crunchy synth sounds coming my favorite bands in the early days of new wave like Gary Numan, Vince Clark led Depeche Mode, OMD, etc., and I couldn't understand why my keyboard compositions up to that point didn't seem to have richness and bite coming from their songs, and everything I'd mess with at the store sounded like belonged coming from a "one man band" type entertainer on a cheesy cruise ship. I finally did some basic research, and learned that this type of synth called an "analog" synth was making a comeback, and a lightbulb went off. I opened up my wallet and stuffed my basement with several analog beauties. My life had changed, and yours will too!

      Colin Kohlbeck
      Hi Colin,
      I cut myself off at two Andromeda A6s, two Yamaha CS-80’s, (two of those each because I prefer having a backup and both are unreliable unfortunately and especially with the CS-80, parts are almost
      Impossible to find) one Yamaha CS-60, a Memorymoog LAMM, Modal Modulus 002, Schmidt 8-Voice, and my favorite synth the Knifonium. I also have decided to get the classic Trinity that old school studios typically had, a Hammond B3, Fender Rhodes Suitcase 88, and a Wurlitzer 112. My digitals are a pair of Korg Oasys’s and Korg O1W/FD’s, and a Roli Seaboard Grand, and Akai MPCX the O1W’s being my first “synths” that are actually just romplers, but the way you can stack the sounds is pretty amazing, especially for that era.
      I cut it off there to concentrate on a couple mixers, and outboard rack stuff like limiters and compressors etc. and some mics. Also added a 2” 16 track reel to reel, and a 2 track as well.
      It never seems to end, although I did stop adding new things for the most part as it became time to concentrate on composing again.
      Thankfully, with the virus keeping us all confined a bit, I have plenty to work with. I used to enjoy having folks over to play and record but that will
      have to cease for awhile.
      Please stay safe!

    • @colliemon
      @colliemon 4 года назад

      The Synthesizer Grouch yeah I hear you the virus has been terrible but has definitely made me more productive musically. Those are some beautiful synths you named though, I’m impressed. I’m looking to buy this minilogue xd as my first synth, but at my school I came across a non working memorymoog that they didn’t know what they were doing with. Would be a dream to be able to get that from them reasonably and fix it.

    Really informative video, thank you so much! Would love if the audio was on stereo though, the FX demonstration section of this video almost got completely pointless.

      Yeah I never thought about it at the time. I recorded in stereo, but my tracks were in mono in my video editing software. That's something I corrected recently

    This was still great to watch in 2022, thank you so much.
    I wonder if this device is still a good buy though, any ideas? I love sound design but don't know about a 16-step sequencer...

    • @Woochia
      @Woochia  2 года назад +1

      I'd say yes, I love it, but the 16-step sequencer is sure a limitation. I prefer ton control it from my DAW with a MIDI cable, but for that I have to unplug it from my rack to have it close to the computer, which is also a constraint:/

      It's now shift+write to load the knobs' current position. In an older firmware (on the OG minologue, at least), it was shift+play.
