I bought the MF a couple of months ago. This is my first foray into the world of synthesizers and this is the first tutorial I have come across that explains things in a way that a complete newbie like me can understand. Now I can intentionally create the music I want to.

Excellent tutorial! One feature of the MicroFreak that I don't think you touched on is how you can edit almost any parameter on each individual step of the sequence. So instead of having an imprecise knob movement recorded across the entire sequence you can dial in exact knob positions for each step. For instance, I used this with the speech oscillator shape setting (word selection) to have the sequence say a specific string of words. This synth makes my head explode with all the modulation possibilities!

arturia's own tutorial was pretty bad, the killer was them using external paddles and shit. plus they explained things like anyone who was buying it knew exactly what they were talking about. def don't go to that tutorial if you're a beginner

16:24 Lesser known fact about MF's fm engine is that feedback is a two way dial, 0 is full negative feedback, 50 is no feedback, and 100 is full positive feedback, I stumbled upon this information reading the plaits manual (because it's a little more informative about some engines that've been ported to MF) but maybe it's written somewhere in the MF manual too

I've considered replacing it with a ML, a Bass Station II or something like that (normal keys.) The bass Station II even has aftertouch sensibility. However I love the MF's sound so I might just carry it along with a MIDI controller to get a reliable playing. Have you had any issues with keys? If so, any ideas to make it better?

    • @vsd1988

there's a mono mode and a paraphonic mode that turns the MicroFreak into a four-voice polyphonic synth with all voices sharing the filter.
It is monoaural, however there's a headphones output where the signal is doubled into both stereo channels so you can plug your headphones in there.
