I love how you geek out about this stuff, Bo. One of the main reasons I got so hooked on your channel. That, and your calming voice. You're just all about it. I haven't been musically inspired in a long time, but you're reigniting my synth obsession, about 20 years after the initial fact. Thanks. :)
Really appreciate that this first look was relatively "raw"! Not sure I would have the courage to post a video where I totally forgot to save the patch 😅 but that's a large part of what makes your content so enjoyable and relatable. Cheers Bo, hope you have lots and lots of fun with your new synth, can't wait to get my own.
I love how innovative you are, you can make up something cool sounding to play right away, and still show the abilities of the synth very well! Informative and a fun video to listen to, great job!
Sounds huge. Was going to get a Minilogue but went for the XD when it was announced. Seems like they are different enough to have both rather than just an upgrade on the original. Seems like the digital Osc opens up a huge range of sounds. Hyped for mine to arrive now.
That's how KORG's business model works. They left out features from the XD that the original has to try to get you to buy both. Same issue with the Prologue. Everything that they make is intentionally crippled in some way so that you can't buy just one, even on the high end, that does everything. Yamaha does the same thing. It doesn't make me want to buy both, it makes me want to buy neither. Hopefully someone like Behringer comes along and eats their lunch; it would serve them right.
Dude! You're repping Michigan in the intro! Love the Detroit shirt! Great video too. You are super creative with this synth right out of the box. Nice job!
ROFL Whoopsie whoopsie, lol...oops for real, 🤣🤣🤣 That was a really cool fluty sound too. You were jammin away on it too. That was groovy, hell, all of it is fabulous.
I think that’s the most excited I’ve ever seen you 😬 Sounds good! More sound creation, some workflow from scratch building into a groove with some other kit would be interesting to see. There’s something about the capabilities of this synth which combines with the form factor to just make sense. It really feels like an evolution of the Minilogue. A good thing as it would probably have been easy to go too far with new features that didn’t really add anything. Really a great synth for those just starting out as well as anyone wanting a complete package. It deserves to be hugely popular.
I just ordered this today and I can't wait till it arrives in 5 days. The reverb is absolutely out of this world fantastic. It looks like 5 nights of no sleep. LOL
So glad bass/bottom end doesn’t drop out while increasing resonance. Bo, would love to see you make some percussive/rhythmic sequences using the Digital OSC(noise) and S&H LFO. THX!!
Was waiting to see what a fellow fanboy would say about it. I imagine I will make the same delighted sounds and faces when I try it out for the first time. Need to fill up the OG minilogue with patches first. And congrats on the ‘instant keyboard skills’! 😉
Dont know why it sounds to me in some patched that is like a mic room recording with muddy low end and muffled hi end except when you add a aggressive res.
Hi Bo ! Thank you for this first test. Love your channel. Preordered mine in January. Should arrive by the end of March. Quite excited to play with this unit.
I think this video just sold me on this synth for my first. Thanks for showing the whole process end to end for sound creation; seems really approachable!
Anyone experienced that the synth makes little to no sound at all when you turn all three FX off? Updated to fw2.10 and the synth changed behavior. Worked fine before.
Nice video Bo, thanx for that first look ! The XD is a BIG little synth, not the original Minilogue killer but a winner for sure ! Hope an in depth review soon...
I'm currently looking for my first hardware synth, and this has been tempting me so much despite being way over my original budget. I'm sitting at 4:00 in the video and saying to myself "Okay this sounds amazing, and has all the features you want.. but maybe you should just get something cheaper like the MS-101. Plus, the MS-101 can do that lovely 303 bass." ...and then 4:35 happens. Damn it. Now I'm seriously reconsidering said budget.
It really seems like the little additions they made added such a wide variety in new sounds and ways to use new sounds on the xd. I loved my minilogue and this catches my ear again!
I want one! The sounds are amazing. As a person who is just starting out with synths I found it educational watching you create a sound from scratch. It's hard to know how to get from a boring beep to a lush appreciated soundscape. I'd like to see some more of that kind of info. Minor criticism, please try to arrange your lighting so it doesn't glare onto the small display screen on the right. Thanks!

Hi Bo! And thanks for all these preset videos. I would like to ask you for advice, given that you also reviewed the Minifreak: the Minilogue XD has an analogue "base" with a third digital oscillator, the sounds seem full and "real" to me, the interface is immediate, the design is classic and awesome, but I struggle with the presets, they sounds good but are very standard, nothing goes "out of the box". I find that the Minifreak on the other is slightly less convincing as a "pure sounds" (if you play a wave without any effects), it seems a little less profound/vibrating to me, but it has really beautiful presets, complex and pleasant, they're very interesting even without having to process them in DAW with other effects. Minifreak is "ready made", Minilogue is a "classic". Which one would you recommend for those who move between electronic / IDM / ambient / glitch (let's say from Floating Points to Max Cooper)? Thank you very much.
That thing looks gorgeous in black. I'm so glad they got rid of that cheap slider. That's one thing I really dislike about my Monologue. Every time I touch it, I wish I hadn't because it feels like I'm going to break it. To be honest, the Minilogue when I demoed it a few years ago didn't impress me that much. It sounded good but I didn't like it enough for the price. Hearing the first few minutes of this, though, it makes me want to throw my Monologue in the trash and pick one of these up (I have several monosynths and the Korg is probably the first one to go if I were to get rid of one). I'd love to have the sounds and polyphony of this, but I'll have to wait to see if the price ever drops, or maybe pick up one used. Seems like a very nice improvement over the original. Great demo! Thanks!
Thank you, for all great tutorial but I've a big issue: If I turn off Local SW and using minilogue XD Sound track in Logic, the sequencer don't work properly: it generates only a short noisy sound, and the joystick goes out of control, if I use it. looks like you can only route the EG and LFO using the target switch next to them, so they can't modulate fx. You can modulate fx with midi CC and using the sequencer
Delay and reverb at the same time...whoa! I was wondering too if it had that capability like my Deepmind-12. I'm really liking this little synth more and more although I've been recommending people to get the Deepmind-6 instead for the same price, full size keyboard and more voices. If I had to choose between the two it'd be difficult or I'd get both if my pockets were deep enough.
@@BoBeats oh there is a very big price difference. Lol BUT...... it is bigger, analog, 4 oscillators, and it's a moog. Hahahaha. It actually looks like a bigger grandmother with more optim8s. GM times 2
The XD’s sounds remind me more of my VA synth … does the OG Minilogue sound more ‘vintage analog’, or not? Is it the difference in 4-pole (an option on the OG) v 2-pole (XD) filter I’m hearing, perhaps?
Wow that sounds amazing. I like this and the mininova, so I need both. I have a circuit and a am doing r&b, soul funk, rock ,blues, fusion... whatever. Which would be the better first synth since they are both very different. Analog vs digital, etc. Thanks Bo!
Finally I bought a used XD module...the sound is amazing but the rotating encoder for patch changing/ scrolling is just insane. It works well now but one have to scroll like crazy to get forward or back, it'll "eat up" the encoder pretty fast, I mean why didn't they include -/+ or "up/down" buttons like on Radias or MS2000 (which I have)...it's a pretty crazy and unnecessary mistake...also, a -/+ button would be much faster. It's almost a deal-breaker thing...because the encoder WILL fail badly at one point when it wore out, then you won't be able to save or change a patch....
There is no delay or reverb on the monologue , and it’s monophonic, so when the lead starts coming into play like he does in this video, it wouldn’t work
Would you upgrade? Or keep the previous minilogue? To me It sounds a bit more powerful then previous minilogue. But not that different to keep both. What would you do Bo!! Tell me what you think!!
hey nice vid. i have a question. listen to the song yabba dabba doo by don blackman. theres an overdriven synth Bass in that song. could i achieve a similar sound with this synth? i know it has overdrive but i cant really find a vid that shows how overdriven you can get
I dreamt of Bobeats and the Minilogue. Bo was a man living in the sea depths with his Minilogue, making amazing unheard sounds with it. I was diving in the clear water and met him, he offered me the sounds of his synth, but I had to find a way to bring them safe to the surface. The only way was to pour the sounds in a paper coffee filter and clean them from all the sea plants and dirt that way. Then I could finally play Bobeats Minilogue's sounds on earth and anyone was amazed and admired. I told anybody the story of Bobeats living in the sea depths and making sounds, but nobody would believe such a man could really exist at all. So, I went to visit him underwater (and he was so happy of this) with a lot of folk, showing people Bobeats exists and make sounds for real, down there in the clear sea water. So, the question is: am I looking at too many Bobeats videos? ;-)

After much deliberation, sold me on the xd with this one! 🌪
would a patch like the one around 11:30 be possible on a monologue ? or do i need something more meaty like a minilogue for that ?
There is no delay or reverb on the monologue , and it’s monophonic, so when the lead starts coming into play like he does in this video, it wouldn’t work
Would you upgrade? Or keep the previous minilogue? To me It sounds a bit more powerful then previous minilogue. But not that different to keep both. What would you do Bo!! Tell me what you think!!
I dont know 😱
BoBeats haha ok
hey nice vid. i have a question. listen to the song yabba dabba doo by don blackman. theres an overdriven synth Bass in that song. could i achieve a similar sound with this synth? i know it has overdrive but i cant really find a vid that shows how overdriven you can get
I dreamt of Bobeats and the Minilogue. So, the question is: am I looking at too many Bobeats videos? ;-)
You just need more ☕️☕️☕️✌️♥️😬
I'm having a small problem, get this or a StudioLogic Sledge 2......
Still waiting for mine. Back order. :-(
How would you contrast this with the Prologue 8?
That sounds freaking awesome
cool video, thank you for the review
Can it change patch externally? From OT or digitakt? My SH-01a could but not my D-05
