I play Men's slowpitch softball and started using the Command drill as a practice. I hold my hands out away like Aaron Judge to start. The issue for me was moving my hands too much like Rich explains. Now, I keep the hands at my back shoulder when I load and concentrate on snapping my hands fast not my arms. It has given me so much more bat speed as I am not pushing the bat to swing now. Thanks Rich for the drill and knowledge.
I wish I had you to learn from when I was I kid. I hit the ball before my front leg hit the ground naturally, but my hand action was the classic push swing. The wrist snap back and tilt swing you teach is pure effortless power... it feels so naturally for me to do. The only problem is I'm a man past his prime.
This guy has so much knowledge, he reminds of this pitching coach I had in hawaii who taught me nothing but fundamentals, then he tought how to place my fastball and apply different pressur on my 2 seam to make it move differently... he then taught me how to throw a beautiful ass cutter that you'd be surprised how easy it is to throw... it wasn't until 2 years with this coach he finally taught me how to throw a curve ball and it is deadly.... learning like this showed me how to be areal a pitcher and I'm no pro but I play in leagues and it's amazing to have all this and have ot show up on the field... shout out to all my professional town league ballers 🤙
the 2 greatest hitters ive seen since the late 1980s to 2014 were Barry Bonds and Gary Sheffield... both hit for average with power with walks and low strikeouts... they have similar swings except Sheffield obviously has more pre-swing action with his hands... fax!!!
We don’t want to load our scap? You’ve been saying that we should be feeling our scap go into our spine… That’s loading our scap in my eyes… Please explain.
He means feeling like your pulling your shoulder blades together, although they are barely moving as your scap muscle tightens to take in any slack, .aka..loading the scap. but your hands stay at the same position at your shoulder, and you feel this loading in your leg and inner foot mostly. As you do this correctly, you feel the pressure on your leg, which is resisting this load, more and more.... .
Beat explanation my brain has. I see it, understand it, just, idk. Remembering power hitters growing up, they always had that hack, and u knew. Now that it's exposed, everybody's doing it haha
Hopefully Judge introduced Volpe to Teacherman! Not sure if Yankees Organisation s able to fix it. Shouldn t Volpe be capable to contribute at least .240 per season Yankees are in trouble, once again. Weren t shocked if Yankees need whole 2020ies to figure out filling Shortstop Position and giving away Judge s and Cole s prime years. Of course, Urias for example an unique talent. But If Yankees are able to develope him and get a championchipcaliber roster on the field, not even considering pitching, I am not sure!!!!!!!!
But Judge does what all modern hitters do. He doesn't snap his hands. The swing is sub-nonconscious directed mainly by the position of the head. @@MEGATBLAZER
I loved Judgie's explanation regarding his hitting lane...I understand what you're trying to say, but I wouldn't teach this to a young hitter...you never once mention that the hips pull the hands through...you're leading the viewer to believe the hands pull the hips through which is catastrophic to a sound swing...now you're going to get hitters arm-barring...retool this, but concentrate more on Judge's comments than this "snap" technique that you're not fully explaining...dangerous for a young hitter to hear...a sound swing starts with the lower half-period.
@@anthonyj9787I have been coaching swing mechanics for many years and currently coach young high school AAA players. Old school guy is 100% right. Judge does not snap his hands back. Nor does he rear legged launch. His newer swing has his hands a little more forward, not to mention his swing is more compact when down in the count. The HLP videos that show herky jerky snapping, extreme tilt, and unbalanced weight (all back) are most certainly NOT what the greats or current successful MLB players are doing. Why? If you create movements that promote the bat to be upwardly swung like a propeller vs. a slightly upward whip, the bat will be covering very little of the strike zone. So, yes, teaching HLP as I’ve seen it presented, is going to set kids back for sure…..all under the guise of getting the bat up to speed or minimizing pushy swings. Basically highlighting rarer hitting problems and countering them with more mechanical problems.
@@anthonyj9787Wrong defined by whom? Teacherman? I don’t care how emphatic somebody is when they say something is wrong. Bonds, Aaron, Pujolz, A-Rod, Ken Griffey Jr., Ruth, Mays, Williams, etc, didn’t swing with the HLP method. So, were they wrong and Teacherman has cracked the code? I’d like to understand what swing mechanics you think are right. Many who watch this HLP videos have no idea of what the bat is doing in 3 dimensions.

This is one of the best explanation were my hands should be, I’ve had questions on this but i could not find a vid on your account before this, thanks
“Load your leg.” Good stuff
This makes so much sense.

Legs and core for explosive speed

@ATMfromNJ Judge is currently the best hitter in baseball, so I mean.. this comment aged like leftovers in your car’s trunk for a week.
I've watched old videos are you were loading your scap muscle then. Has this part changed in the process?
I get the load without moving your hands but then snapping your hands when you go, that's better than the traditional swing?
Thanks, your video really helps a lot.

@@thermal1966 Gotcha thanks. How long have you been doing the HLP swing for?
Great video!
Gonna figure it out one day
Is this still relevant for softball where the pitches are slow?
Only if you want to hit more dingers than Kent Murphy
Let's listen to Harold Reynolds talk more. HE knows his stuff.
@ATMfromNJ Sarcasm I hope??
What about all the extended lead arm hitters? They don’t don this. Explain how Brett hit?
I a bid proponent of lead arm dominant hitting...but he makes some points..carew griffey jr gwynn to me appear lead are dominant
He looks as iconic in a Yankee uniform as any Yankee has ever looked . BAJ 99
I see Ronald acuna do and Fernando tatis they load back
I wish he'd teach Pete Alonso this technique.
Pinching into your spine is loading your scap
........so Gary Sheffield without all the extra movement??

TLDR: you bat with your legs
I hope you don’t die before my son gets of age that you can train him
If you and your son are lucky he will..
@commonsense343 Evil comment
Sorry sir, but Judge loads, strides, puts his head down toward where he wants to hit the pitch, and swings just like Charley Lau said in the 1970s.
