One thing that we Africans need to know is that it’s the African Americans that have paved the way and paid their blood hundreds of years for black and brown people to be in America and we need to appreciate this. This journey didn’t come easily. As an African immigrants we need to understand and honor the sacrifices made by our ancestors the blacks who fought for justice and racial equality and freedoms from oppression because without them the US could have been different like some other places.
As a french speaking African migrant who has lived in this country for the past 15 years, I am deeply disturbed by the narrative being pushed in this France 24 propaganda alleging among other things that African Americans are somehow "racist" towards their fellow Africans. How far from the truth this is my friends.... The notion that there is jealousy or envy is so silly, it runs counter to the very principles that define this great nation, including notions like melting pot and "communitarianism", a term that french intellectuals abhorre for its offers social minorities a voice that is silenced in the existing french system. Africa had always been the land of opportunity for the French. While they are having a hard time finding prosperity in their land, they hope for the African continent once again to be its saving grace. The narrative at play here, another attempt to divide Africans from their AA brothers and sisters in order to expand their cultural influence on Africans living in the greatest country in the world casts doubts on its agenda. Under pressure from China and Russia, they once again resort to their dirty tricks and the narratives here are part of an effort to fight back in the virtual sphere, the French president Macron has directed their media with disinformation campaigns like these and foolishly we are falling for it. I am actually not that surprised that French-speaking Africans are making such pathetic rhetoric, as they have historically been subjected to the most intense media brainwash in all of Africa. France teaches us to be suspicious of all people who look like us and we learn from an early life to look for the french when we are in need so that explain that.
This was quite an eye opening post. Thank you for the insight on how the French Media works. I never knew that is something that they condition French speaking Africans to believe
They always do this. But I'm glad for the first time, I'm seeing ripples of a backlash in francophone Africa against France, a country in terminal decline.
I'm a Black American who has visited Africa several times. My closest friends are all first generation immigrants from Nigeria and the Caribbean. This is some of the most egregious propaganda I have ever seen.
You are right. I am a Kenyan and my girlfriend is a beautiful African American woman from South Carolina. Most intelligent one I ever dated. I agree with you this article is divisive and pure propaganda
Brother, I see you're unfamiliar with the divide and conquer tactics of the French. Africans are not surprised one bit by this narrative from France 24.
I don't think they would want to explore that reality....better to nitpick on the American dream as a means to build up French self-esteem, than to face their own harsh truths.
LOL we give you Access to everything in France, ALL IS free for you, and yet you still hate us. There is no jobs for FRENCH NATIVE and you demand jobs for millions of Africans...
Europe is much more racist than America. I went to college there. Black people are treated abominably and there's literally no hope of bettering yourself unless you're gifted in sports or music.
I have a different experience. The people who were kindest to me were African Americans. My fellow Africans and countrymen gave me some of the worst treatments I have ever received. But it depends on your personal experience I guess.
I hear this all the time "African Americans envy native Africans because they know where they are from" but that's not the truth. Most African American see themselves as American and have the same issues with African immigrants as regular Americans do about immigrants in general (less jobs due to immigrants willing to settle for lower wages, rent increases, and all of the other issues associated with an influx of immigrants)
Yeah I was side eying this entire report. "African Americans" are the most accomplished and successful black demographic on the planet. We have global superstars that eclipse the entire continent of Africa. We ain't jealous and plus we are indigenous to America.
@@robbycole7047 hummmm, Joe Biden calls himself an Irish American, recently visited Ireland and Ireland isn't better than South Africa or some other parts of Africa. Certainly, if you are mature enough will understand what I mean.
Interesting that this video opens with a colonizer pointing out differences between African-Americans and our brothers and sisters straight from Africa. Divide and conquer is still going strong, I see. At the end of the day, we still have more in common with each other than we do with *them.*
I agree. I refuse to even watch the video, l am just reading the comments. No white person has the right to point out any differences or issues among African Americans and Africans.. The nerve
Actually, most African Americans have more in common with European/white Americans than they do with Africans. Same language, same western culture (with some variations), similar belief systems etc. the only big difference is across racial lines. If that isn’t the case then why do some African Americans feel the need to “connect to their roots” if they’re already similar to Africans? its because they are not. This video In the opening did point out an actual fact. You just didn’t like the race of the person who pointed it out. Having a differences doesn’t mean you can’t get along with one another. Africans and African Americans can get along well despite their differences.
France 24 should focus on the racial problems in France and Europe, New Zealand, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Namibia etc everywhere that was settled by white France racial problems . France wiped out 1.5 million Algerians during independence struggle and has had unhealthy grip on west Africa . Haiti still paying France for liberation for freeing themselves . France Colonized New Orleans . 46 million black people in America . 3 million black from outside US . 2 million black people from the continent Africa in US . Insignificant . At least 1.3 billion black people in the continent . At least 90 million black in Brazil . At least 400 million black people in diaspora including afro-Jamaicans,afro-columbian,afro-mexican,afro-canadian,afro-british,afro-brazilian,afro Panamanian etc .Cannot use the experiences of a few people to generalize .
Many Americans are unable to achieve the "American dream". I've dealt with SO many immigrants, refugees, who come to the US and expect our government to completely support them. Only in the US do taxpayers have to foot the bill for children in public schools who cannot speak English. People are here for DECADES and never bother to learn the language or to teach their children. WE have to pay for translators each and every time a child is unable to understand the language. So disrespectful If an individual needs rescue, that person should at least contribute to this country, should ABSOLUTELY learn English. I don't think people should be permitted to stay in ANY country if they refuse to learn and contribute. We have our own citizens to look after.
If the American dream is such an illusion so why are they still here? So disrespectful while they own countries don’t even look after their own citizens.
@@gbb82 Of course. No one is allowed to have any opinions whatsoever. Say anything and you're xenophobic or racist or cruel. Tell that to the thousands of "working poor" Americans who work full time jobs and can't feed their children. Try to cross the border of France, Germany, Spain... Tell them you have nothing to contribute but want a better life... The fact is that there ARE ways to LEGALLY enter the US and people interested in living here need to do so legally. American citizens deserve some modicum of consideration and protection.
Why would AAs be jealous of Africans, when they are the one's fleeing their home nations at record numbers. It makes absolutely no sense. I would argue that it's actually the Africans who are jealous of AAs.
I am African American and have African friends from Nigeria, Ghana, Cameroon, etc. There's no envy or jealousy. America is the greatest empire that ever existed. We have people from all over the world in our vast, diverse, and incredible country. There's no country on earth that comes even close to the number of people from all over the world who are attracted to our shores. Even in third tier cities, diversity is eye-popping. God bless America.
Same. I have friends from Ivory Coast, Zimbabwe, Congo, and Togo. We all get along just fine. Now only if we could do something about that 13th Amendment...
@Miguel D Lewis What's up Miguel? Isn't it amazing with how diverse America is? One would think that the people who want to come to the United States are only from English speaking countries. I have lived around the country, and the most diverse place I have lived in so far was Queens, NYC. There are people from Kazakhstan, Pakistan, India, Indonesia, the Caribbean, Mali, China, Cameroon, etc. You wonder if you are really in the United States. South Florida is the other place I experienced such diversity. Now, the 13th Amendment abolished slavery and freed the slaves. What did you mean by "We have to do something about the 13th Amendment? What's your train of thought?
@@summer031977 The 13th Amendment abolished chattel slavery. It made slavery legal for convicts, setting the groundwork for the prison industrial complex and the mass incarceration of black men. This was set in place before blacks in the US could legally read or write.
"There's no country on earth that even comes close to the number of people from all over the world who're attracted to our shores." You're clearly a typical Yankee who has not travelled to many countries. Britain is way more diverse than one can imagine. Every nationality is here. 🇬🇧 is a melting pot of different cultures. About USA being the greatest empire in the world. European countries can claim that accolade not USA.
@@Scotland-ki1rt I have been to the UK, Ireland, France, Italy, Australia etc. Those countries are very diversified, but they do not match the diversity of America. There are thousands of towns and cities there with so many immigrant groups, it is really remarkable.
As an African from Kenya 🇰🇪 I have experienced bias and or respect from both Caucasian and African Americans. It’s important for Africans to sustain a strong sense of self-esteem. We are made to feel lower because of our accents but instead we should be proud of who we are and where we come from. Take opportunity to educate the people around you about your country and our beautiful continent because most Americans that I have come across are very ignorant to the world outside America. There’s no American dream……we’re all on a wheel running like mice to stay ahead of debt 😂😂. The secret is make your money and rebuild in your home country and move back home to mother Africa where you can enjoy your money. No African wants to grow old in America.
You’re right. Please share this information to most Africans. Old age is the worst time to be unprepared when you’re as African in the US. Invest back home and do so heavily as in 40% of your income. You’ll be happier when you return home.
She's wrong and just projecting! As an FBA( Foundational Black American) and for the ones that I know ( and that's a lot!) we do not harbor any ill feelings toward any immigrants, especially not the ones from Africa. Most FBAs understand we have carved our own history here and we have shaped our own culture. Our Black American culture is so strong, it tends to overshadow some of the other cultures in the Diaspora, which created some resentment towards us. FBA are survivors of many atrocities which strengthens us to be tougher, and more diligent in the movement to progress our people to the next level in the US. Now Africans are coming to America because of our successes, and they want to be part of it as well. Our community will always welcome you, but please don't hate on us for what we created outside of Africa.

To some extent, but as a person of color, you'll NEVER get what truly your due, i.e. Black doctors earn $50k less than their white counterparts. The executive from Benin moved to a country without the appropriate immigration paper work , does not speak its language and is not destitute , that alone is a miracle .
Africans are extremely jealous of us. How can they have vitriol for us when they have forgiveness for whites. Whites are the ones who colonized their homelands yet you find misplaced anger with people who NEVER DID ANYTHING TO YOU.
She the type that looks down on African Americans because we were once slaves, but fails to give us credit in our fight to give her the civil rights to be here.
I have never met a Black American who was jealous of Africans. And Black Americans know where we come from too. We have been in the Americas for centuries, even long before the transatlantic slave trade. Not all black Americans were sold from Africa as slaves. I personally love Africans and have many friends from Africa, as a child and now as an adult. I love everything about African culture. But I also love my black American culture and don’t not feel any jealousy towards Africans.
You fled, you're not strong. There is nothing to be jealous of a runner from their own land that couldn't stand on their square to make their lives better on their own land.
I knew when I saw France in the title of this documentary that Divide and Conquer propaganda would be the theme. France should be paying reparations in several African countries.
Furthermore, African Americans have shared history, heritage, goals, concerns, culture and the list continues. The interviewee and producers/interviewers reinforced the African American stereotypes that some Africans have toward us.
Actually as an African American, I have no jealousy, envy or even interest in identifying a country of origin. For one, African-American cultural contribution is far greater and impactful worldwide both economically and socially than any nation on the African continent. I actually have no desire to travel to even visit West Africa let alone live there as it personally has nothing of substance to offer me. African Americans have lots of pride about our own history. And it is a false narrative that most of us a jealous of anyone on the African continent.
Sorry but it’s not true, black Americans still behind than others races in America, there is a lot of poor black Americans it’s disgusting to see them and black rich. There is a lot of poor Africans and rich Africans. If you go to Africa you don’t gonna see them because you’re not high class. So the Uber driver can't make it on $1500/week??? Something wrong with that. She can be an Uber driver in a cheaper city or be a nanny where she gets a free place to stay.
Another perspective.. I never comment on videos.... but this documentary was completely misleading and in my humble opinion total grabrash from individuals and or entities seemingly with an agenda.. Most African American do not envy our other brothers and sisters from any where in the world...(FACT)...some individuals may, like any other group of people...but most don't....most could care less about anything but there own personal interest..... They are focused on surviving and or prosperity ...period when our brothers and sister's come to America from Africa ..they blend in and are treated just like all other native born dark skin citizens in this nation.. they experience the same experiences... some good and some bad; but most shall depend on region... If any one choses not to talk to other African Americans......like the 2 young ladies in the middle of this video (who where both total disgrace by the way and semmingly afro racists women).... it would be because of there own personal life experiences with others from there regions ... and there own personal lack of understanding of there newly adopted home country, and the attitudes of citizens in the region they chose to live.... DC and small towns and or cities in America are about as similar as, the DRC and Marocco are to each other... anyone who understands propaganda would understand why DC was chosen over central Florida or Georgia which both equally have very large African population, most notably west African populations. This documentary was total propaganda.... more anti American trash designed to confuse disconnect and or divide our brothers and sisters from other parts of the world... (something which has been going on for 100s of years, in a concentrated effort) How come no one seems to seek the truth from real African Americans?? How come there was not one native born American male or female of African origin in this documentary?? Do we not exist, or do our view not matters in content supposedly about us?? There are tons of west Africans and many other dark skin people from all over the world who live in my state, region and city ...(Tampa Florida.)... DC... is one of 1000s of cities in America.... one which has a very large black population. .. all regions in America do not have the same demographics.. thus all individuals would not have the same experiences. The Northeastern USA is not the same as the South, nor mid-south or mid-west or nort-west or west coast... (The south alone accounts for over 55% to 65% of Americas native born Black citizens; DC is in the north east...100s of miles away from the majority of Black Americans) America is a very large country....populated with people from all over the world... no one thinks the same in this nation; THIS CONCEPT APPLIES TO AFRICAN AMERICANS AS WELL. For the record..I love all beings in our world equally as God teaches us all to do... nevertheless I could no longer sit ideal for any more blatant misrepresentation of my people, Americans of African origin. Why would we envy anyone..when the rest of the world and most within our nation seems to emulate us for my entire life time.... from body types to hair style..music to sports.. we are copied and or emulated by all other cultures and more than any other group of people by far..... equally we are a major economic driver in the largest economy in the world unlike so many other groups who seeming get there due respect... African Americans account for an oversized percentage of consumer spending within said largest economy in the world...fueling factory from China to South America...fast food sales.. consuming massive amounts of oil and gas .. and tons of other consumer goods and services........ thus African American contribute more to the global economy than most nations in our world by far...(do the number on your own; if America accounts for 25% of the global economy and African American account for a major percentage of consumer spending; then unlike most in our world; African American help power the global economy.....(More hidden Facts ingored by all media outlets) Stop generalizing Dark skin people, and stop the global attempts at belittling African Americans. Even if you’re from Africa, if your skin is light, and you don’t look “black” like the first woman interviewed on the screen at the beginning of the documentary, or you look like that Tunisian man managing a restaurant, it’s most likely that they are gonna be successful in America. If you don’t look lighter skinned, you just might struggle more. Sorry but it’s an observatory inference.

Most people are coming to America for this so called American Dream. The US is so overcrowded because there’s too many people living here. I say if you have a decent existence in your own country why come to America and work like a dog. I’ve been in America for a while and I feel that you connect and experience America better whey you live among your community group of people. There are a lot of other things that may come into play along the way but if you have a sense of community and family it won’t be much affect , most people experience things because they come to America alone and bare everything. You have to work and apply the same , save build credit , education and family , community. Don’t try to understand people , you will waste time stay positive and work hard if it doesn’t work one place try another. I highly recommend finding your community and bridge from
Family or community is the best thing . If anything happens if you are close to community and family you can get help And also you probably feel better in an accepted places where immigrant communities are plentiful, Atleast you won’t feel like you are alone . If I came to America on my own I would reside in a sanctuary state or city it’s just too much going on out there , immigration is getting tough and we don’t know what is going to happen next , so I just recommend staying in a sanctuary area.
They can only do if for so long until people see through it.
@kngston20 We see it. We collectively need to counter it.

I have a different experience. The people who were kindest to me were African Americans. My fellow Africans and countrymen gave me some of the worst treatments I have ever received.

That's probably because they are culturally Americans.

I agree. I refuse to even watch the video, l am just reading the comments. No white person has the right to point out any differences or issues among African Americans and Africans..

So disrespectful
If an individual needs rescue, that person should at least contribute to this country, should ABSOLUTELY learn English.
I don't think people should be permitted to stay in ANY country if they refuse to learn and contribute.

They are focused on surviving and or prosperity ...period
when our brothers and sister's come to America from Africa ..they blend in and are treated just like all other native born dark skin citizens in this nation.. they experience the same experiences... some good and some bad; but most shall depend on region...
(something which has been going on for 100s of years, in a concentrated effort)
How come no one seems to seek the truth from real African Americans??
How come there was not one native born American male or female of African origin in this documentary??
Do we not exist, or do our view not matters in content supposedly about us??
There are tons of west Africans and many other dark skin people from all over the world who live in my state, region and city ...(Tampa Florida.)...
DC... is one of 1000s of cities in America.... one which has a very large black population. .. all regions in America do not have the same demographics.. thus all individuals would not have the same experiences.
The Northeastern USA is not the same as the South, nor mid-south or mid-west or nort-west or west coast...
(The south alone accounts for over 55% to 65% of Americas native born Black citizens; DC is in the north east...100s of miles away from the majority of Black Americans)
America is a very large country....populated with people from all over the world... no one thinks the same in this nation; THIS CONCEPT APPLIES TO AFRICAN AMERICANS AS WELL.
African Americans account for an oversized percentage of consumer spending within said largest economy in the world...fueling factory from China to South America...fast food sales.. consuming massive amounts of oil and gas .. and tons of other consumer goods and services........ thus African American contribute more to the global economy than most nations in our world by far...(do the number on your own; if America accounts for 25% of the global economy and African American account for a major percentage of consumer spending; then unlike most in our world; African American help power the global economy.....(More hidden Facts ingored by all media outlets)

But everyones going to US. French, Italians, Turks, Albanians, chinese, ghanaians, nigerian, malaysian ...
Whats the difference
Agreed 👍🏿 100%
People are downplaying someones experiences the social dynamics are different here you have to find your tribe...its not easy and some friendships are superficial! All i can say is know what you came for hustle and grind and you will meet people who will align with you... I appreciate America for it has opportunities be willing to work hard ...I cleaned after people which coming from suburban home in the motherland was what my friends back home would never do! It made me humble and also challenged me to continue working towards better as this was something temporary so yes opportunities are here
The chief colonialist’s mouthpiece at work!!!😂😂😂. Why don’t you guys do a documentary detailing the crimes committed and still being committed by France!!

We can't say the same about France. I am an African immigrant here in US for 15 years. Love this country. I think it is the best place for anyone ever. I mean ever. Gd bless America!!!
Fanny Alleard's comments definitley show how uninformed she is on subjects pertaining to African-Americans. Africans and African-Americans are not monolithic in our opinions yet we have more in common with each other than meets the eyes. We as African- Americans retained subtle ways that are the same as most West African societies. Most African Americans have a deep love for Africa in general. It is comments like Fanny Alleard that cause divison between African-Americans and Africans. I lived in Cote D' Ivorie for several years, and feel as much at home in Abidjan as I do in Atlanta. I would hope that my friends from The Gambia and Senegal would say the same about Atlanta. France 24 has a reputation for stiring up trouble anyway!! To all my African brothers and sisters : "Welcome to the States, and peace to all nations making the United States home-best of luck
Let build Africa together and world will be a better place for all
We are Black Americans, and find someone that is educated herself on the Black American experience, this lady knows nothing
Hmmm, in nyc we're black first then our backgrounds. Also, African Americans have historically been extremely proud of claiming their heritage/ancestry, etc. Maybe growing upin nyc is an exception but I've met so many proud people.
The only difference I see between AM and Af is some let the colonizers get into their ears and tell them to stay away from AM, and when some come they silo into their own groups, but as for me when I went to the continent I was trying to connect with the people of the land.
To me this shows the beauty of being a melting pot and the French language. Although the history of colonization is a permanent stain, whenever I see Francophones discover each other, regardless of nationality or race, the language is an instant unifier
Africa's population is expected to be half the world's by the 2080s
Immigration will continue to rise
LOL the red hair girl says she loves geography but said Congo is next to Benin when it is not
She said Togo not Congo
She said Togo. She's right
May God bless America 🇺🇸 ❤️❤️🙏🏾🙏🏾
In the coming time, America will lag behind India because the coming future is only India and India is a young country, here the population of 80 crores is 18-24 and you people will dream of coming to India.

They are all economic migrants
Come on let’s face it. It’s all about what you look like and the shade of your skin. Even if you’re from Africa, if your skin is light, and you don’t look “black” like the first woman interviewed on the screen at the beginning of the documentary, or you look like that Tunisian man managing a restaurant, it’s most likely that they are gonna be successful in America. They are also more likely to associate themselves with whiteness as that Tunisian man said while sitting on the bench- he’s proud to have a “blonde” with him.
If you don’t look lighter skinned, you just might struggle more. Sorry but it’s an observatory inference.
They can avoid to assimilate and remain as subgroups just like some other immigrant groups like the amish or other sects. People who come from Malaysia, Bali, New Caledonia or east timor may also be confused with black americans, but that doesnt mean that they assimliate into
the america of african americans. If you come to america to become a "Dalit" than you better stay at home.
I don’t like this video, why it seems like they trying to start trouble between African American and African .
African Americans are Americans, the US is their country, give them respect as you would if someone came to your country of birth. Enough with prejudice against African Americans.
Most people are coming to America for this so called American Dream. The US is so overcrowded because there’s too many people living here. I say if you have a decent existence in your own country why come to America and work like a dog. Most people living today in America will never retire because everything is super expensive and most wages are not keeping up with inflation. This country is not same when my mother migrated from Jamaica in 1968.
The USA is not overcrowded
How is she speaking for how we feel
We decided to move to Argentina mainly for the passport because our current one doesn’t give us the travel freedom we want. I'm really happy it’s all working out since the citizenship process here is super easy and straightforward for every nationality. I made a video about getting permanent residency in Argentina, and I’ll be putting together a step-by-step guide for getting citizenship soon.

Nice reporting with a great voice
I’ve been in America for a while and I feel that you connect and experience America better whey you live among your community group of people.
There are a lot of other things that may come into play along the way but if you have a sense of community and family it won’t be much affect , most people experience things because they come to America alone and bare everything.
You have to work and apply the same , save build credit , education and family , community.
Don’t try to understand people , you will waste time stay positive and work hard if it doesn’t work one place try another.
I highly recommend finding your community and bridge from
@summer031977 What was the murder of George Floyd in America, then what was Black Lives matter, then why do you do Black Lives Matter, then you people
Very true. It’s how you make it and situate yourself
Family or community is the best thing .
If anything happens if you are close to community and family you can get help
And also you probably feel better in an accepted places where immigrant communities are plentiful, Atleast you won’t feel like you are alone .
If I came to America on my own I would reside in a sanctuary state or city it’s just too much going on out there , immigration is getting tough and we don’t know what is going to happen next , so I just recommend staying in a sanctuary area.

What's actually the point of doing this reportage? Very weird how you decided to make a piece on africans relations to african americans in the us instead of africans relations towards americans and american society.
Its like indian immigrants to europe and conducting a narrative about their relation to romani people...
Rent 2000$ never that is a salary 38 000 rand..in South Africa you buy a car, house and leave good life in any province even cape town
$2000 can get you a posh apartment in Sandton, no lie. America can miss me.
Everyone coming to America should remember and give respect to Black Americans who paved the way with their blood sweat and tears, and show much respect to them. Thank you all Black America you are Awesome!

I hate that we still try to characterize ourselves as “African Americans” I’m American and Black, if you stuck on race, yes my origins from 300 years ago might be African but I never been there and only know what documentaries say about it.
