    10 years later, I come back

  • @stopendapresses2
    @stopendapresses2 4 года назад +28

    For almost 11 years now, I have watched this video at least 10 times a year. It always calms me and makes me so sleepy. I commented on this video years ago, and asked Victor if he would ever return to this barber, and he responded something along the lines of "I tried to make an appointment, but the barber had shut down his business." I wonder if he is still alive...times flies by so fast. Still love this video! The start of ASMR Japan!

    • @ASMRJapan
      @ASMRJapan  4 года назад +16

      Yeah, it's a shame. They tore down the barbershop and someone built a house there. I did go back once and as I went in the door he apologized and said he was suddenly ill and had to go to the hospital. He retired soon after that. He might still be alive. I don't know. I'll ask around the neighborhood. I know a woman who lives nearby the old shop.

      @@ASMRJapan Thank you for your reply, sir. I would appreciate you asking and finding out. You do not have to do that, but thank you for saying you will. Just something I have been curious about for a few years now. Love your channel! Keep up the good work!

    Wow. I never thought I'd be so entertained by someone getting their hair cut for almost 41 minutes. I was watching a lot of videos on Japanese Anime and Manga and culture in general and came upon this great video. Thank you!

    Interesting!! He put white baby powder on your black hair because the contrast would make any "dekoboko" or uneven surfaces stand out better so he could correct them. I've never seen that before.

    Oh man I first found this video like 10 years ago. First time I saw it I was hooked especially onto the barber streams because they are so relaxing and I admire the time they put into their craft. Every once and awhile I will remember and have to try and find the video but this time I was smart and saved it to a playlist.

    I remember the first time I saw this video like it's yesterday. Someone in the comments said this was asmr and I went down the rabbit hole of discovering what that was, now over a decade later I came back and saw that you changed this channel to an asmr channel and that's cool. Thought that was just a weird coincidence... First subbed this channel because I was interested in moving to Japan and now I'm here for the asmr

    I believe the reason people are so interested in this video is that it offers a window into the past. It is a real pleasure to see a man who cares deeply about the quality of service he provides. Thank you for sharing!

    • @fish4kbcf
      @fish4kbcf 8 лет назад +3

      +Gimmeaflakeman What I think he meant is that here in the States the true old school barber is a dying breed. The barber is replaced by corporate shops like Great Clips and Sports Clips. You can't find customer service and attention to detail like you find in a locally owned business such as this. You produce great videos by the way and give insight into a very interesting and dare I say "very cool" Japanese culture.

    Wow... What well executed service. The barber even groomed the small fuzz on the forehead and between the brows. It only makes sense that the art of bonsai comes from this part of the world. The only difference is that it's grooming a plant. Nevertheless, these people take grooming and cleanliness seriously, and it's refreshing to see. I get joy out of seeing someone's face not razor burned after a really good shave because Heaven knows that I rarely get that luxury myself. I have the curse of sensitive skin coupled with thick whiskers, so I dull a blade very quickly and end up with burn on my chops. I seriously need to invest in good oil and soap along with some hot towels.

    • @acesneeks
      @acesneeks 10 лет назад +2

      consider a barber once a month. might be more expensive for a high end shave but they do deal with thick whiskers and sensitive skin well. another trick is to shower first and shave right out of the shower,

    • @FollowMarcos
      @FollowMarcos 7 лет назад

      No need to take an actual shower, just rub your face with warm water to open your pores, then after shaving splash your face with slightly cold or cold water and then some, non-alcohol after shave. Another cool trick is to make ice cubes out of mineral water and after shave and then rub it on your face after shaving. Don't forget to apply some moisturizer (without scent if you like your after shave scent) while your face is mildly wet after applying the after shave/after shave ice cube.

    Excellent piece of footage. For those of us who live in Japan, it's quite an amplified example of the sort of lengthy, uber-precise attention to a whole-dimensional ' assault ' upon the flaws of bodies that is still quite obscure in the West. Reminds me of how people from the Middle East are so often stunned, with good reason, at how slovenly, sloppy, obese, and slapdash millions of denizens of the Anglosphere appear in public.

    perfection, he is meticulous. after he washes ur hair he goes over it again with a fine tooth comb....literally. u just need to switch up ur hairstyle, like comb it a different way. when he was done washing it ur hair was styled wet from the wash and It looked good. new hairstyle! that's what I vote for.
