I had a haircut like this once. I was in Santiago de Chile and I walked into a run down mall and there was a small barber shop with an old guy in it. He must have been 70. I sat down and we had a chat while he was stropping the razor. He sprayed my hair and started combing and passing the razor over my head. I really could barely tell he was cutting my hair. At the end of the 30 minutes I had one of the best haircuts of my life and I felt like I had stepped back 50 years in time. I gave him double the price.

It’s not the highest level. It’s doing it properly. If you care, you do things right. In America, for instance, we accept laziness, entitlement, and complacency. This is why Japan will always be superior when it comes to things that require effort. You have to care if you want things done well and right. It’s a shame that what should be considered the norm culturally around the world is seen as something that is beyond reach. People need to start caring and having some self reflection. As Marco Pierre White says, “Perfection is doing many little things right.”
