- In this episode of the Wide Awake Podcast I spoke to Ex-Con Artist, Matthew Cox! Matthew is a former mortgage broker and convicted mortgage fraudster. During his time as a Con artist Matthew defrauded banks for roughly 55 million dollars. Due to his crimes Matthew was eventually put on the secret services most wanted list. When he was caught he was facing a sentence of up to 125 years in prison.

I hope you enjoy the episode!! ❤🙌🏼
Are these episodes on Spotify, I can't find them on there 😫
Best one yet, gonna be hard to top that 👏
Where I'm from they called the school STAR Workshop
Why aren't you on Spotify?
In a world that nolonger believes in God...why not?....😮 they think!!
The way he just names every scam and knows what it is impresses me. Damn, he knows them all.
This is the first podcast I’ve ever finished, and I loved every second of it.
The reason why they can say “he comes into Starbucs everyday” is because you weren’t laying low. Like you said, so smart that you think you’re smarter than everyone else. 🤦🏾♂️
After working for a mortgage broker for a short while, I can say the criminal mindset is rampant.
Matt Cox is one of the best storytellers of all time! He is so creative it’s scary
It's a prerequisite for being a Con Artist
You ain't kidding.
It helps when you're a con man.
He only has decades of high $$$ experience telling stories
School was horrible for me. One of the worst experiences of my life, i wasn't the smartest kid and the teachers had no patience with me and would just give up. The teachers treated me like crap, I once was pulled out of class and "randomly searched for wepons" and they forced me to lift my shirt while 4 or 5 teachers just stood there snickering and laughing at me because of my weight.
I understand. My son ... 100% innocent ... He was faced with the same treatment. I eventually pulled him out of public school. He is amazing today.
17:50 for anyone looking for the fake bank story from the short
Another excellent one Josh.
Such a likeable character, but in reality he has no conscience which pretty much makes him either a sociopath, a narcissist or both. Kind of like a likeable rouge.
His emotions and the way he just betrays no matter what is scary
@@mrringogreat3670 it's as though he's walked over people and left a lot of hurt people in his wake but he's too wrapped up in how clever he is to realize it. I do think he's very bright but has wasted it. Sad.
If anyone can, for your own sake take note of what he does not the appearance of his personality.
If you listen to his podcasts he talks about it a bit... I don't think he's a sociopat, just scrappy and willing to do what is necessary to survive.
@@Goalsplusexactly, his humor and minor self deportation are manipulations. A confidence man though and through.
I saw one short of this and knew i had to watch. Good on you for pinning the link.
Great pod, been watching Matt for a while now, never expected to see him on your show. Well done Josh!
These guys, criminals, ex criminals are sometimes so damn good at what they do. All I can do is laugh lol. Great interview
I felt I had auditory dyslexia when he said “when did u become a shmorgan burger”
That prison story with the punk had me in stitches 😅😅top notch matt 👌
What he said about white families vs. black families when it comes to people who go to prison is, unfortunately, very true; I did 8 years and some change and seen it over and over again
Yes same here...very true.
Amazing story. So glad you had the interview!
Matt is a legend. Such a good storyteller and has written some excellent books as well. Nice interview!
I laughed so many times during this episode! He's the real life Saul Goodman!
Best Podcast in the world. And to the interviewed, start over. Everyone makes good and bad mistakes in this world. I hope everything goes your way.
this guy is a Criminal Genius 🤯🤯🤯
3:39 but brortgage moker is hilarious 😂
They’re CONFIDENCE artists lol I love this guy
😂😂😂😂🤦🏿♂️🤦🏿♂️bro this dude is to funny man especially the library part omg
Placing him inappropriately at school would be a major lawsuit today.
Crazy to think just 20 years ago 11m dollars could buy over 100 houses in Florida. Today that's MAYBE 20 houses
Well that depends what part of Florida your in.. if your in the hood you can buy homes for 50k so yea you can still get a ton of homes with 11 million. Not every house in Florida is worth 500k
Best podcast ever Josh thank you watched every minute of it and that guy will get back on he's feet ❤
Josh you are doing great 👍🏽
He is a genius but crime doesn't pay, make a movie, it would be a block buster 👌
Then it would pay
He should be a politician now there is a field you can steal and never do time
You're cracking it Josh 👏
Thank you!! Can’t wait to share the next few episodes! 👀🙌🏻
Thank you insomnia. I wouldn’t have come across this pod cast if it was for insomnia. 😊😊
One of my favorite episodes so far😅
If this guy built a fake bank website and the Secret Services didn't figure it out quickly, then they're not that good or someone is lying. It takes a phone call to the banking regulators (OCC, FDIC, ...) or going online to check if any bank or credit institution exists. Easy and step 1 in any financial investigation: verify the information, starting with its assumed sources.
that's true but I guess they were too busy to question that while doing all the research and organizing the evidence to search for what looked legit and had a paper with transactions on it
This podcast is underrated
Really enjoyed this awesome👍🏽👍🏽
Very interesting podcast 👌 well done✔️
Really appreciate it! Glad you enjoyed it!! 🙏🏼🙌🏻
Great story and great story teller. The real story at the end about regret 🙏
Fantastic episode 😊
That was a wild interview. Matt Cox led a really interesting life... not so legal, but interesting none the less!
The side chick messed his whole deal up.
Gen Z is funny. If the story isn't over in a tiktok amount of time they get confused, lose focus, and start asking unrelated questions.
When you said “brockage morger” i was like what is that.. maybe im dyslexic too 😂😂
I am so suprised that was 2 hours and it felt like 5 minutes ahah good show
The thumbnail does this guy so dirty 😂 but another great podcast!
This guy is intelligent. He was working under the stress. Stealing under stress. Thinking very highly on his decisions.
This was a really interesting one.
He gave us the formula boys 🫡
Keep it up, i love your content!
If it's matt cox then I'm watching it. I could hear his story a hundred times and never get tired of it. Dude is fu ny af. Great delivery lol
Loved this!
wow. thanks for sharing this story is very interesting
Hey, I’m glad you enjoyed it!!
A brogage moker 😅 right after the did not do well in school convo 😂
Great podcast.
The guy is great storyteller, he has got captivating style
I absolutely love it 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Thank you!! Glad you enjoyed the episode!!
Gosh, this is some interesting content 👍🏻
Loved it !
Thanks for another great episode Josh! Any chance you upload the audio only of your episodes on like a Spotify type platform? Couldn't find it there.
Excellent video
Greed can easily break every system that humans have!
Lekker Josh. We are enjoying this.
A Florida Man story that isn’t cringe or ends horribly
how can you not love matt cox
So far, this guy is super bright.
He is a very smart guy!
Taking notes 📝
I cannot seem to find your episodes on the podcasts app on Apple.
I like listening to while I walk.
RUclips premium and you can just lock the screen in your pocket
34:33 “what’s your date of birth”
“7g-“ 😂
Imagine putting these con-men in the same facility together? 😂
Subbed both of you.
“Yeah, her name was Christie 🤭” bro
Bro was so good at fraud the feds had him teach a course good grief 😂
This is the 4th time I’ve heard a white collar criminal blame their life choices on dyslexia…
Well he was a Brogage moker 🤷🏻♀️😂💀
@@Aqsi12_😂 that was hilarious 😆
Your trippin he takes responsibility for his actions. Nothing wrong with saying it was a factor in what jobs he had available, everything in life’s a factor
This Guy needs a movie
Dude really has no idea if his country has a credit system?! He said “o I have no idea, I don’t do my finances “! 😂
This is insane dude. You got Matt on a podcast?
Matt I hope you puting money on that lawyer books
As someone that works at a lender! 😮 I’m shocked
bro you deserve way more subs. great content
Didn’t realize he was from my hometown of Charlotte NC or lived there when he was doin all the fraud anyway
Love how they put all these con men in the same prison. 🤣 let them all work together.
He loves the sound of his own voice.😂but he's honest about his past regrets.😢.sad about his son, dad and mum.
Dude had 3 million in cash and didn’t just say, hmmmm lemme jump across this border and live life happily ever after… I feel like they get addicted to the scheme and that’s why people don’t just walk into the sunset. 3 mil, in 2005, in Mexico 😵💫😵💫😵💫
It's not about " have", it's about " get"
Oh for sure... It becomes such easy money that he's blowing through it as fast as its coming in.
He wouldn’t have been free in Mexico, he coulda lived it up until he got caught there and extradited back to the US 🤷♂️
Ok this is his passion
South Africa stand up!!
The guy doesn't know, obviously, that due to changes in the laws, courtesy of the D.O.T., the ALL DMV's in every state are now connected. What he pulled off then, can't be accomplished now.
You don’t think he’d figure out another way? He says it’s far even easier in times now. He’d be doing bigger and better frauds if he hasn’t changed. Everything digital and he doesn’t have to show up in person to multiple parts of his fraud, banks houses etc
Lesdyxia is infectious apparently! 😂😂😂
This guy was doing wild shit. 😮 I’m deep in real estate so I can relate.
I love this guy. The wretched get their kingdom. Fuck i want mine too
Luke 8:17 For there is nothing hidden that will not be disclosed, and nothing concealed that will not be known or brought out into the open.
😂Best podcast 👌👌👌🇺🇲🇿🇦
Algo!
He is very glib but he is also shameless... And now he knows honesty works for him.
Notice how bro was the only one laughing at that corny ass joke he made right from the jump💀
This guy is nice
Bro you ask the most random topic changing questions when he’s getting on a roll with a story path. The most painful thing was listening to a topic not play out into the next part of his life. He said himself “your getting ahead of the story here” then didn’t circle back to what he was getting into to start a new story about what he spends money on 😂 griefed your own podcast
Yea he was completely lost lol
Facts
Guy didn't even tag his podcast in the description. 🤣
He has a degree in fine arts
He certainly does!!!
Moral of the story don’t trust a woman with your secrets they chit chat to much 😢
Makes me think of the movie Heat. Wonder how many guys wouldn't of been arrested if they just stayed single.
Moral of the story...have some morals....for the better of humanity ...how many ppl did he hurt ..its disturbing that ppl think this is cool ..until someone steals their identity...makes their taxes go up etc. He's a dick!!
Never trust a woman ever. Never never.
No way your secrets are save with me and my bff and her sister and her sisters bff and her sisters bffs aunt ...
Holy shit I’ve watched a hour and didn’t even realize
Interesting
Redbat all the way 👏
