I recently got mine. (Got it on a blackfriday sale at $349 with resident evil 4) I already have an index for my pcvr, sims, DCS. However I use my quest 2 for media consumption, watching videos, netflix and youtube. Lying down in my bed with a huge screen on the ceiling is a game changer. I use a 10ft cable to plug into while watching so battery life isn't an issue . Also using hand gestures instead of the controller for surfing and watching is awesome. The tech in this standalone headset is mindblowing.
I got mines as a suprise on christmas, and I think its great. Some VR enthusiasts that just have absolutely everything might call it really bad, but as a person that has no access to VR otherwise I think it is great.
If your quest 2 is losing charge while off it's either not fully off (in sleep mode) or it's defective. I turn mine off and don't use it for a week and then turn it back on and it's still 100% charge. You have to hold the power button until the power off prompt comes on the screen then select it. if you just click the power button it's the same as turning off your phone screen.
I use my Quest 2 for PCVR, pretty much. If there was a dedicated PCVR quality option for around $600 that had the all around quality to match the price (visuals AND controllers), I would probably own that one instead.
Pretty accurate but a bit incomplete. While not applicable to everybody, it should be mentioned that if you have a VR capable PC, the Quest 2 can also function very adequately as a PCVR headset, and in fact will let you play WIRELESS PCVR right out of the box. Also, yes the battery life could be better, but that's easily resolved by buying a 3rd party headstrap with an external battery, which can double your battery life or more. Yes it costs a few more bucks but if you're playing it that much where 2 hours in a session isn't enough for you then it's a very worthwhile upgrade.
I agree that the Quest 2 can be an adequate PCVR headset but it's no match for a dedicated headset like the Valve Index and after a while you'll get really frustrated with the Quest 2. Personally, I found the following issues: 1) poor tracking, 2) low frames per second, 3) had to restart the headset multiple times, 4) overheating, 5) the controllers EAT batteries like nothing else and the covers are so annoying to remove that I ended up playing with them off!
@@burgerjointgame Hmmm, I wonder if maybe you have a defective unit. I honestly haven't had any of those problems. Great video! I really enjoyed this review of the Oculus Quest 2. It was helpful to hear about your thoughts on its value. It's good to know that it is still a high-quality VR headset in 2022. I appreciate the detailed and unbiased perspective you provided. Thanks for sharing! I've owned a Quest for over a year and it was a huge step up from what I had before, the PSVR, especially in terms of tracking, hand tracking, accuracy, resolution. After a while, I realized, (like everyone) that you can get better performance by plugging it into a PC as you get better graphics and can play better games. I then started to realize all the downsides of the device, like battery life, having to change the controller batteries all the time (why is there no charging port?), overheating, the fact that the frame-rate drops when you increase the resolution, it's bad to record on/with, and it's so ANNOYING having to always recalibrate the floor. This led me to get the Valve Index which is better in every respect and works seamlessly with Steam, unlike the Quest 2. I'd say the Quest 2 is ideal for anyone who doesn't have a PC, it's a fantastic stand-alone device, but it certainly has it's limitations. The best advice I have for anyone who buys one is to get a new headstrap. I found a cheap one on Aliexpress that is almost like the PSVR in terms of comfort and much better than the stock strap.

I need to know! Is it good for VR pron? Watching stuff in general? Can you play Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR and everything else? Can you play non-VR games "on" it, like use it as a monitor for extra immersion, so you're not seeing the real world in your peripheral? I know it's probably definitely not as good as say, a Valve Index, but can it? Is there anything it can't do? I would just go for the Index but I don't want to buy or upgrade my PC just for VR. I mainly play older games. I might not need to but eh not worth the risk for that kind of money. Thanks.

It's still the best bang for the buck. There isn't a cheaper standalone headset out there. Most require additional equipment like the Sony which require as PS 4 or 5 and the latest headset from Sony was announced at over $500. Figure in the cost of the PS5 and you're around $1000. Valve's set is also close to $1000 and you need a pc. The others are way more expensive than the Quest and the Pico is owned by Bytedance which plays pretty loose with personal information going to the Chinese government. As much as I really dislike Meta, at least it's a domestic company.
Not to mention that if you decided that you wanted a Pico. You're thousands of miles away from the nearest server. Your experience would be absolutely terrible as the end user. Just not worth it all around.
Yes, I agree - for a standalone VR headset the Quest 2 is unbeatable. I found it a huge improvement over the PSvR (1) in every area like tracking and hand tracking. The only downside is the Quest 2 is uncomfortable and really needs an aftermarket headstrap. I bought a cheap one from aliexpress and it makes the Quest 2 just as comfortable as the PSVR.
Just ordered it! I chose quest 2 over pico4 (even with the better hardware, apparently) because of the Quest exclusive games! I'm hoping this is worth the higher price point! Excited to get it :)
I hate facebook, but the price hike is due to the drive space. I bought one on launch years ago for $249, but it's only 64 gig. You can't even buy this model any longer. While it's a downside, there is really no competing headset on the market that can offer stand-alone and tethered VR like the quest. It's still an insane value. Being able to wirelessly stream PCVR to the quest is just icing on the proverbial cake. I played though Half Life: Alyx completely untethered and it was amazing. I kinda feel like you're selling this headset a bit short by not mentioning these capabilities.
Are people still getting wrongly banned for bogus reasons making it a brick? Also how's the tracking? Will my hands fly away from me if i get to low like beatsaber on psvr?
I won mine at a Christmas drawing at work. I am an old bastard so maybe I am just get as excited about this stuff, but I would never pay $399 for this. It is interesting, but as he mentioned in the review, the battery life is ridiculously short. Barely enough to watch a movie. If you have money to throw away then maybe it is worth the experience. I just might end up selling mine.
Lucky you! I think everyone has an issue with battery life. You can buy aftermarket head straps with battery packs if you want more battery life and they are much more comfortable than the standard strap. The really annoying thing is the controller battery covers - they are so difficult to remove every time you want to change the batteries and the controllers don't have charging ports or anything. Before selling it, I'd highly recommend you try some apps that let you explore the world, like take VR trips, create art, etc. You don't just have to stick with RUclips and kids games, VR art is really fun!
That may just be yours, mine is pretty well at keeping battery life. Although, you may be able to find an extension to the battery life on amazon, and or plug it into a pc, which provides infinite battery life.
your battery problem is your fault. you don't turn off the headset, you just put it to sleep. it doesn't eat the battery at all when it's fully switched off, and it's still the same charged state for me even after a 2-month break
I tried vr at an arcade for the first time doing beat saber and it really made me want a vr even more. I do worry about getting it for one game as it can burn fast but games with music tend to deteriorate slower.
@FooGaawz it's a fun system but debating getting it and whether it is getting used to its full potential, not just buying it for one thing then once you get burnt out of that game it becomes useless
Well, you don't have to leave it in sleep mode. You can power it down by holding the power button for 5 seconds. Secondly, vanilla quest 2 is trash. For about 60 dollars you can upgrade it into a more premium headset. Better head strap, extra battery bank that can extend its life up to 6-7 hours, and controller straps like the index's. The quest 2 is not only worth it, but the only standalone headset worth buying in the US right now. Not to mention that you can literally just link it to your PC for the high end experience. Because of its high resolution and regresh rates. There really is no question about it. If you want a real VR experience without breaking bank or making compromises on the specs. Quest 2 is the only answer, and will be for the next couple of years. As the quest 3 is going to be between 5-600 US dollars, so.
I just sold my Meta Quest 2 for the Pico 4. I know the Pico 4 doesn't have much right now, but the potential seems great. For the future of the Pico 4 i can imagine a world of modding and using it for PCVR makes it even better. The hardware is just plain better on the Pico 4. In my opinion that makes the Pico 4 superior! I didn't have any games for my Quest 2 because i used PCVR ALL the time. So this makes my decision easy
Not a fan of standalone headsets. Those XR2 chips are way behind console and PC and has literally moved devs from making good games away from PCVR. The Quest took VR game development backwards a couple generations.
It really didn't. Gaming is an afterthought in the long run. VR gaming will always be niche for a lot of reasons. The standalone headset falls pretty low on that list. The more attainable segment of this market lies within the realm of productivity and desktop replacement. Up the res, drop the weight, and integrate the workspace. Devs don't develop for VR because the tech isn't there to develop. Alyx, the single best game in VR. While visually stunning. Is still just a point shoot carnival game. The movement is clunky and let's face it. The real reason that VR gaming is a dead end. It just not immersive enough. Think about it. The most popular games in VR either have you standing still and doing something very simple. Or is oriented around socializing. Which has very little to do with haptic feedback. VR isn't there yet. It will be some day. But, right now. We may as well be calling this the Atari quest 2. Because that is what it is comparatively.
We need games like Skyrim that offer massive open worlds to explore, or a game like Shadows of Doubt that let you explore the world to search for clues in a mystery. Most VR games seem to just be shooters or beat 'em ups, and that puts a lot of people off.
So i got the black friday bundle $350 but i hate it because it doesnt fit. Feels like it was made for little kids, i also wear glasses.. got the oculus link to play pcvr and thats kinda fun but resolution is really bad. Ive been thinkin about psvr 2 but i heard it doesnt work for pc and needs the ps5 to work. Kind of a bummer but the resolution is supposed to be a lot better? Should i keep my quest or sell it?
I want to but the meta quest 2 it’s 350 euros but I want insurance so if it breaks then I can get a new one and the total is gonna be then 429,98 euros Im sure I won’t get it :/
Its a bit fun that back when this video released 399 was much for a vr headset, but now we have the quest 3 at around a whopping 599-699(don't really remember but it was something like that)
@@Ghillie_Beast_yt Depends, quest 3 has better graphics and cameras etc, but the quest 2 is cheaper and still has pretty good graphics and you can get almost every game you can get on the quest 3.

This was a very well done video. Figured you had like hundreds of thousands of subs. Shocked you only have like 400. But you’ll get there bro
It was originally £400 for the bigger storage then put down in price for bigger storage and done away with the lower one ,giving buyers a chance on getting the bigger storage at the lower storage price ,then meta put the price back up to original price of £400,hoping all would be on higher storage,I bought mine as soon as it was out for £400,was pissed it dropped in price after that, but can see why, more players and developers,it works at the moment.
Quest2 still holds it I think, 400 is still chip for all the entertaiment offered

-GTag
-Baby hands
-Amongus
-Job simulator

-Beatsaber (too hard)
-Boxing games (probably break something)

I need to know! Is it good for VR pron? Watching stuff in general? Can you play Skyrim VR, Fallout 4 VR and everything else? Can you play non-VR games "on" it, like use it as a monitor for extra immersion, so you're not seeing the real world in your peripheral? I know it's probably definitely not as good as say, a Valve Index, but can it? Is there anything it can't do? I would just go for the Index but I don't want to buy or upgrade my PC just for VR. I mainly play older games. I might not need to but eh not worth the risk for that kind of money. Thanks.
Not sure if you have heard of it but have you looked into the battery bank strap? It gives my oculus about a other 2 to 3 hours. Totes worth getting

+ at the moment pico software is bad
@@FlockofSmeagles And the fact that US won't have it, meaning you are pretty much stuck with Meta or PCVR headsets.
@@DeterminedTorres Well, we can have them here. It just not worth importing them here. That was kind of my point.
What are some of the Quest exclusive games?
Just plug it to your PC while you play. Provided your PC has the option!
That may just be yours, mine is pretty well at keeping battery life. Although, you may be able to find an extension to the battery life on amazon, and or plug it into a pc, which provides infinite battery life.
@@burgerjointgame I agree its a whole another experience
You gotta keep it for the porn alone is worth it 💋
I mostly use mine for watching videos and I use Bigroom a lot.
your battery problem is your fault. you don't turn off the headset, you just put it to sleep. it doesn't eat the battery at all when it's fully switched off, and it's still the same charged state for me even after a 2-month break
I tried vr at an arcade for the first time doing beat saber and it really made me want a vr even more. I do worry about getting it for one game as it can burn fast but games with music tend to deteriorate slower.
what the hell are you talking about?
*1500* 🤓

@@FlockofSmeagles ITS CALLED ASSETO CORSA VR..THATS ENOUGH FOR ME
Bruh, it literally did the opposite. Stand-alone Vr headsets is what’s pushing Vr forward and making it consumer friendly
Its a bit fun that back when this video released 399 was much for a vr headset, but now we have the quest 3 at around a whopping 599-699(don't really remember but it was something like that)
Does the quest 3 make the quest 2 more worth it?
@@Ghillie_Beast_yt Depends, quest 3 has better graphics and cameras etc, but the quest 2 is cheaper and still has pretty good graphics and you can get almost every game you can get on the quest 3.
