      Yall must have gotten shit vehicles then because I've been around several equinox and never seen any problems. Only thing they've ever had to do is oil change, alternator and that's it. No problem with internal/external leaks, burning or going through oil at all

    Be advised this video shows a non-ECOTECH engine. For those of you with an ECOTECH engine, you'll need a 32mm socket, and the filter is replaced in a well below your oil reservoir.

    According to Amazon, I'm supposed to use a pf458g oil filter that comes off with a 32mm oil filter wrench. I don't want to order the wrong filter. 2017 equinox, 4cyl.

    Oil level is not temperature dependent in automotive engines; engine oil level does not work like transmission fluid level. Engine oil level, when the engine is stopped and the oil has had about 5 minutes to settle, should always be at or near the maximum level indicator on the dipstick.

    I know ATF expands when heated, but this is the first time I have ever heard anyone say that engine oil does as well. Also, I am sitting here looking at my 2016 Chevrolet Equinox Owners Manual, and it says NOTHING about cold vs. hot dipstick readings. One reason I do my own oil changes is because the folks at the quick lube places WAY overtighten things. They even went so far as to strip the threads (engine oil plug) on a car I once owned. Utterly ridiculous. I can see that this guy is of that same mindset because he instructs his viewers to use a tool to tighten the filter. That is overkill. I only ever tighten my oil filters by hand and, even at that, I sometimes accidentally get them too tight. The oil filter was overtightened if a tool is required to remove it. If I am wrong, then there should be oil on my driveway, and there isn't. People watching a video like this are novices. They need to be told that, yes, the oil filter can be cross-threaded too, so they need to beware of that. Both it and the plug should spin effortlessly. If they don't, you need to stop because you are cross-threading them. When tightening, the only time either of them should be difficult to turn is at the end when they begin to "bottom out."

      I only do my own oil changes and service also because well i just don't trust other people. I only hand tighten my oil filters as well because like u say even still they can end up to tight

      I can't believe that he's a professional mechanic and is teaching other people his stupid habit of using a filter wrench to tighten it.. definitely not a good idea and this type of problem is why everything I own from vehicles to harleys to a semi truck that I no longer own get serviced by me only... I was pressed for time while owning my kenworth and I stopped at a professional service shop and had them service my truck.. when I went to service it the next time I had to cut the filter off and then use a chisel to loosen the rest of the filter.. I have a friend who still owns his own truck and was in the same situation with time I was a few months ago and he got down the road and lost all oil pressure and it was because the idiot who did it didn't tighten the drain plug with a tool just finger tight.. wasn't but 100k more miles and he was buying a crate engine

    The comment about removing the oil filter and then spraying some type of parts cleaner there was ill-advised because it breaks down & removes oil. With the oil filter removed, there is an opening into your engine...And you think it might be a good idea to spray some degreaser INSIDE as well as outside an engine???

      Loosen it to let the air escape while the oil is draining from the pan, shouldn’t be too messy by the time you put the bolt back in and change the filter insert.

    How often do you recommend changing it?

    • @jameshall2017
      @jameshall2017 3 года назад

      Look at owners manual, most of the time the equinox gives you an oil life level. I'd recommend changing once it gets to roughly 25% 15%. That's what I've done and never had an issue

    This video is misleading. It gives the impression that all 2010 - 2017 Equinoxes as like this. They are not. Mine is a 2016 and has a 4-cylinder engine. The oil filter is of a different type (cartridge) and is up on top of the engine.

    • @justgio1908

      most auto parts stores (autozone, o'reilys, advanced auto parts, etc.) will recycle your used oil. once you have your old motor oil in the oil pan, pour it into the empty jar(s) you just used. once you've done that give the auto parts stores near you a call to check if they recycle oil. if they do just go there and take them the jug(s). you're done.
