For Many countries, there is an airline that acts as a national carrier to their citizens. In most cases, the airline will represent their country on a global scale, connecting destinations around the world to the cities of it’s home. For many, a carrier like this is their first exposure to the country that they are traveling to, and so for that reason, the airline is often considered to be an Icon. And for the better second half of the 20th century, there were 2 airlines that became the pride and joy of Australian air travel. One was Qantas, and the other was none other than Ansett Australia.
I do not own the rights to any of this footage. Thankyou to those who have provided the public with valuable footage of Ansett's incredible History, and thankyou for allowing me to use this footage to tell the story of Ansett.

Great airline, flew for Reg for 10 years . He had the utmost respect for the pilot group unlike CEO’s today.

Reg would be spinning in his grave thinking how did Air New Zealand screw his airline up.

I worked for them ‘89 to 2001 and went down with the ship. Unfortunately this doesn’t even tell half the story of the business predicament AN found itself in, the conflicting interests of its stakeholders, especially the skullduggery of Air NZ. The whole thing was a disgrace that part from everything else, left 16,000 suddenly redundant. Some good footage but a perfunctory account.

How was selling oranges on arrival bypassing the "cargo only" requirement?

Not to detract from this video because it’s excellent and wonderful for someone to take an interest in Ansett and go to the effort to research it’s history, however there’s a little more to the story.
It was Robert G. Menzies, then Victorian Minister for Railways, who legislated to prevent Ansett’s old cars (Ansett operated a road business before it became an airline) from taking business from Victorian country rail lines.
Reg Ansett evaded the legislation by taking out a fruit vendor’s licence, selling passengers an orange for two pounds ten shillings, and giving them a free ride on his car from Hamilton to Melbourne.

@@jamesbracy2368this is great! It’s exactly what I aim to get out of the comment sections of my videos. There’s always stuff that I either miss or gloss over, and I love that there’s great people like yourself that can help shed light on things in more detail. Thanks for explaining!
