I'm surprised I missed this video, glad to see you went with this one instead of the Liftmaster. It has quite a few advantages. The app and wall control is nothing fancy, but it works perfectly for what is a simple task. The price, included battery, wireless control and cable slack monitoring system (without the need for an extra sensor) is what sold it for me.
One suggestion that I would add is that you can install a wired wall control from Genie, which will give you the added feature of being able to lockout any wireless remotes. The reason I suggest this is because you said that you would be lifting cars in the garage. And by being able to lockout any remotes, that will give you the added security of the door not being opened when a car is in the air and will prevent a potential accident. Hope this helps.
Thanks for this, great advice. right now I'm just using a quickjack which is low enough that the door wont hit my cars (now that the opener isn't in the middle of my ceiling), but if i ever go to a higher lift ill definitely change out the controller.
Nice install! It’s on my list of upgrades as well. Curious to know what you did to hide the sensor or locking cable/wires? Did you go inside the wall or use a wire channel to hide it? Thanks for sharing!
the lock and sensor wires i just ran down the wall near the track using the cable hold downs they gave with the kit. I already had a wire that ran from one sensor to the other through the wall from my old opener, so i also reused that.
I originally was going to buy the liftmaster, but a few people in the OG facebook group said the Aladdin app worked way better than the my-Q app. I haven't used my-q, but i can say the Aladdin app has been really solid, it notifies me of door opened or door closed, i can open it from anywhere, and keeps a history for the last 30 days.
Yea, govt oversight is a PITA. For me, i just want my wife to be able to get into our out of the house during a power outage. I have one with battery and one without, and im good with that. i can always manually open a door if i need to. if youre looking for a garage opener i highly recommend the genie, im a few months in and i haven't even had to make an adjustment
dont get me started.. my neighborhood is full of electric cars, solar panels, and powerwalls, but our local electrical company wants to build power storage a mile down the road and everyone fights it because "what if there is a fire".. facepalm. I think this one is a safety issue, and i get it, my wife couldn't leave the house every time the power was out because of the garage door.
These are JUNK! app is slow/laggy or just randomly disconnected, 1 year later the plastic clutch thing broke inside (look at home Depot 1 star reviews), genie will not sell you a replacement! Rendering this useless... RUN! Right to repair needed so bad!!
Bummer you had such a bad experience, I’ve had zero issues with mine and use the app almost daily. Hopefully I don’t have the plastic clutch issue you mention. I’m just under 1.5 years with mine
(1) If you're having connectivity problems, and other people are not, then the Wi-Fi signal to the garage is weak. Not an opener problem. (2) The plastic clutch component clearly IS a problem. Until Genie addresses this issue, depend on warranty replacement, until, like everything else, you will be able to buy a Chinese knock-off from Amazon made of aluminum. Demand is a vacuum for the Chinese.
@@fastglassman624 No it's an opener problem, plenty of signal to there, I work in RF engineering and IT, the issue is on the server side and nanny side. Replacing the opener with a Chamberlain solved ALL issues.....JUNK! It WILL fail you at one point!
@@fastglassman624 i couldn't agree more about the wifi, as someone who does IT for a living, many people dont understand how much building materials cuts down on wifi signals. In a home the garage is treated like an outside zone, and even if it shares a wall with an interior room, there will be addl materials there to help with temperature control. The wall between my garage and my dining room has standard studs, but insulated and then skinned with plywood under the drywall, its a completely different animal for radio signals to permeate that. Additionally these jackshaft openers are by design placed on the furthest wall from the rest of the house. I had problems with my sprinkler system controller until i added a wireless ap to my garage, now it services my openers, my tesla powerwall, and my sprinkler with zero issues. Im not aware of the clutch issue, im going to keep my fingers crossed that it doesnt impact me. Honestly at this point i would buy the same genie opener again tomorrow, its been really solid.

It’s been a few months and I love the genie. Really couldn’t be happier with the recommendation. I’ll order another one shortly for my other door.

What made you go with Genie over the Liftmaster 8500 (Did I miss that in the video)? Definitely seems to be a more compact unit.

While battery backup is great, I really have a problem with government telling people they MUST have it!🤬

Given how bad batteries are for the environment California forcing y'all to have them is very California
