  • What’s up everybody. In todays video, I will be unboxing, installing, and giving my initial review of the Genie 6172H wall mount garage door opener. This can be installed as a DIY as long as you pay close attention to the installation instructions. This unit is very quiet and works great and frees up space at your garage ceiling.

    Could be the best video on RUclips for installing a wall mounted unit. Excellent!

    Terrific video! I watched a few times before purchase. Purchased garage door opener and watched this while installing. Opener works very good. Thank you for your time and editting of this video. Big Help! Cheers, Mark

    Excellent video. 2 things that will make it even quieter, lube the door, and buy a set of garage door roller sleeves. The roller sleeves reduce the metal to metal sound the rollers make.

    I think the mounting bracket position is incorrect, unless your wall in not flat where you going to install the motor. for your case if you install the opposite way, you may not need the piece of superstud.

    Didn't you mount the standoff bracket backwards where the re short leg would go against the wall and the long adjustable leg mounted to the drive unit? would have saved you an extra step.

    Great video! One question: How did you re-route the power to the new opener? I.e., did you already have an outlet close to the door location, or did you run an extension cord to an outlet that's located further away? If you're using an extension cord, have you had any issues? There's a garage door installer on RUclips that says the motors in these are susceptible to shorting out if you use an extension cord. That doesn't make much sense to me, which is why I'm trying to understand if it's really an issue or not.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  Месяц назад +1

      I had an outlet about 5’ away and I use a 5’ heavy duty extension cord and it works fine.

    Really appriciated for this video. I see you removed old over-head unit & rail, but still keep the garage door torsion springs. Is that torsion spring required for the wall mount door opener?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 месяца назад +1

      The torsion spring helps you lift & lower the door as without it, the door would be too heavy to lift/lower manually and would burn out the motor.

    I'm confused with the wiring for the safety beams. I only received one spool of white wire. There is no striped wire. U zoomed through that part so I am having trouble understanding what to do

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  4 месяца назад +1

      Run wire from the one side opposite of the motor up the wall, across the top, and over to the motor. Cut the wire and strip off the ends to connect to the sensor and motor. Then run another shorter strip of wire from the sensor below the motor up to the motor and strip off both ends to connect.

    I have 2-10' metal doors that "Roll" up. They are heavy. I tried the Genie Max Force 2 H.P. Screw Drive. The doors are too heavy, it only lifted them 6' before I heard the screw slip. I mounted it in between the 2 doors.
    Now, this may be the solution, but my shafts only protrude a small amount 3/8" before the cotter pin. How much shaft is needed to connect to the motor coupler?
    I also have 14-3/8" between the rail supports, that maybe I can fit 2 units? Thank you!

    Good video, but skipped the whole power hook up.
    Looks like the openers power cord plugs into the lock mechanism. Then he just routed an extension cord to the bottom of the lock mechanism.

    My light will not work? Did you have to sync yours? I have even tried syncing and cannot get the light to work.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  8 месяцев назад

      Mine was a little finicky too. Did you hit the sync button on the light? Once connected mine would sometimes stop working so I just unplug the garage door opener and plug it back in and it works.

    There is a 6172H-B and 6172H-O. I'm not sure what's the difference.

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  6 месяцев назад

      I think it’s how they are packaged as a bundle. The 6172h-b may have the battery backup and 6172h-o does not have the battery backup. I can’t remember but it’s something like that.

  • @gregadams8354

    Whats the difference between the Genie 6172h-o and this 6172h ?

    • @DieselLegiance
      @DieselLegiance  Год назад +2

      If I’m not mistaken, the H can lift up to 14’ tall doors (a little more powerful) and the H-O can lift up to 12’ doors (tiny bit less powerful).

      That’s cool bro but those units open too fast and are known to bend hinges and destroy doors over time. They also need regular maintenance to not wake the whole house up. This is definitely the safer and quieter option.
