- July 21st, 2021. 10 months since the release of a nation in Genshin Impact, which in question was Liyue. After the unexpectedly long wait, a new nation was released titled “Inazuma”. My opinions on the nation itself vary greatly with the sheer fever dream of islands, but this video in question is covering the archon of the nation, the Raiden Shogun. Released roughly a year after the release of the aforementioned Liyue, she’s a beloved character within the realm of gameplay, being viable to many different situations. Whether it’s co-op, creating teams of your characters, or simply trying to get by in the most vanilla way possible, she’s effective at what she does. So, this raises the question of why this video is named the way it is. I’m not delusional, just trying to create some weird kind of immersion.

Also for the story quests-sq 2 was really good but again we NEVER see her rekindling with Inazumans or what she changes. We just hear bits and pieces
I've said it a million times but the issue with Raiden is that we have no real reason to believe she's changed. She just SAYS "Oh I guess I'll be better" because Aether hit her with the power of friendship and that's that. She's super good now, trust us guys!
What's she gonna do when Miko dies? Throw another tantrum in her room and lock down the country again? Why should we believe she won't? She hasn't fundamentally changed her worldview AT ALL.
The worst part is: They had all the pieces there.
Her war that she waged against her own people who had the AUDACITY to not want their "External organs" stolen caused deaths, objectively. Not just Teppei, but countless soldiers on her own side. It's a war, people died. Brothers, fathers, friends. She was so super duper depressy espressy over her friends and sister dying, that she locked herself away and waged war against her own people to maintain her "right" to be a tyrannical dictator oppressing a minority of her population. Raiden simps always give the WORST justifications too. "it was ONLY a year" she still made the decision to oppress her people which is the problem. "It was ONLY 100 people" so oppression of people is okay if it's a minority of the population?
Getting back to the point. Her sister and friends died. So she started a war that caused people's families and friends to die. In her pain, and her attempts to avoid more pain, she ended up spreading her pain to her own citizens. If she had ACKNOWLEDGED that SHE did this, and EMPATHISED with her people, empathised with the loss she caused her people, and how their loss is the very same loss she experienced, maybe we could believe she's changed....
But as it stands, she hasn't. She just says the right words, but actions speak louder than words, and her ACTIONS were oppressive dictatorial tyranny all because she was Sad.
She didn't do any of this because she lost her sister or her friends. She didn't even want to rule Inazuma she knew she isn't capable of it, she did take her own life for Makoto to rule the nation she believed Makoto would be a better archon than her. But she didn't want Inazuma to fall like Khaenri'ah, she believed Khaenri'ah fell because of the progress that nation achieved. So, she persuaded eternity to stop the progress and thereby protecting Inazuma from the heavenly principles. While creating the shogun Ei's will was to attain Eternity no matter what. So, she's programmed to fight anyone who stands before it she even fought Ei herself...Ei and shogun are two different persons there conscious exists differently.

I think Raiden actually works really well, what doesn't is all of 3rd act of Inazuma and some other parts
Raiden Shogun doesn't work because she isnt a villain or a hero . She is doesn't help at all and she doesn't damage nations because she wants some revenge or even because she simply wants to hurt. She hurts her own nation simply because she is immature irresponsible and incompetent. Scara as a villain does a great job. Dottore too. Nahida zhongli venti furina all did a good enough job in which nahida is literal imbodiment of all loving merciful god. She is peak archon along with furina. But raiden is neither of them. She is just a grownchild. I bet if she was an ugly old man with less power and same writing she would be the most hated character in Genshin.The only positive thing about her is that she looks beautiful and she is strong af

Im actually gonna argue that raiden was written well as its shown to the player shes hurt people directly (like kazuha) and indirectly (like miko). It seems even in game that inazumans dont forgive her, even in her first story quest the people fear her. No one besides miko seems to be on good terms with ei, and for the reason the traveler forgives them is the only bad part imo there isnt one we're shown on screen.
I see your point, and I'd feel inclined to agree but opinions are opinions. If you ever consider RUclips, make a video on that tbh. haven't seen that argument 😎
People don't fear her in her quest, they treat her like a celebrity who they want an autograph from. Come on.

That said Raiden was actually one of my favorite characters in act 2. The way she walk down from the sky, ON AIR, a completely neutral expression. She was a woman that meant BUSINESS.
And then she became sad uwu dango waifu who throws petulant tantrums and all the cool stuff was actually just a puppet.
@@jadecoolness101 of course they do, she's been defending inazuma for hundreds of years from many, many different threats. She's literally their savior, you think roughly a year of the decree would erase all that? That's not realistic. Not to mention even the alliance didn't hate her, they hated the decree.
Imo its Genshin’s bad writing tho…even the flow of Mondstadt’s and Liyue’s archon quest was too simple and not fleshed out more…I noticed they wanted to try something different with Inazuma Archon quests but it didn’t hit well…Took them awhile to get the writing right tho…

@@ItsJustT one thing to add though, at least Ei as a person with all her godly flaws can still be fixed…unlike her most recent counterpart in HSR, that one is impossible to fix which is kinda hot too in a way…
I think with Zhongli he was only cold because the times demanded them to be. He never went after gods and only protected his people from the gods
He also lost many of his friends like Guizhong and Azdaha but he reacted much better
He was simply cold and lacked many human emotions, however he was never actively malicious towards his people or did any wrong by them. The worst thing he'd done to his own people was try to encourage them by creating the summit shaper weapon and cutting the top of a mountain off in a single strike to show them there is no need to fear when he was around, which kinda just made them realize how scary he was.
Now I have my own personal theory that it was actually zhongli that dropped the nail in the chasm and unearthed azdaha the elemental dragon (like in story quest 2 as it shows something like a sculptor's nail being wedged into the earth) as well as lore implying that zhongli had emerged soon after the sunchariot had fell into the chasm implying he was the one who was on the chariot. There are also many good theories claiming that zhongli had something to do with guizhong's death but that was is too elusive to answer at the moment.
As far as which archons did the most damage to their own people it goes like this:
1) Raiden Ei (Self explanatory tbh).
2) Furina/Focalors (She was aware of the happenings in poisson but decided not to act on it out of fear of reaction which resulted in the flooding and multiple deaths in poisson).
3) Venti (Fell asleep letting tyrants take over and ursa the drake run wild for a time as well as letting the fatui infect mondstat, and only awoke if enough prayers called for him such as with the aristocracy or storm terror).
4) Zhongli (Risked the lives of a few of his people when he let Osial run wild for abit, he doesnt rank higher because the rest of the negatives are simply theories and he was always planning on keeping his people safe and had planned it out fairly well with adepti, traveller, qixing and the fatui all working together to make sure it was all controlled even when it seemed it wasnt).
5) Nahida (She caused harm by actively letting herself remain prisoner due to her kind heart, she effectively pulled the same venti stunt but is a child and therefore gets a much bigger pass).

Comparison with Zhongli isn't really acurate since he is the original archon. He was 6500 years old at the time of Kaenriah destruction and losing his friends. Ei was much younger and that is why she reacted like a teen while he and Venti reacted differently. She simply didn't have millenia to numb her down.
And she didn't lose just Makoto but all her friends really quickly. Zhongli still had most of his closest friends with him.

she didn't actually know really what was going on, the tenryou commission didn't tell her everything and manipulated her. one thing that explains why she is how she is, is that she was never meant to be the archon, she was always supposed to be her sisters shadow / a warrior
also ei and her puppet aren't the same

she states that the vision hunt decree had her tacit approval, (silent approval, meaning she didn't object) she didn't see it as a threat to eternity
she didn't even know that the resistance existed until the end of the archon quest bc of the tenryou commission. they told her that the vision hunt decree "proceeds without obstacles" and "all inazuma is at peace thanks to your divine power"
so yeah she Thought she was well informed, but she wasn't

yae miko: "for the sake of the vision hunt decree, of course. don't you think the shogun might reconsider her policy if all the things you just mentioned appeared in this report?" - abt sara talking abt the war, deaths on the battlefield, and "the hardship endured by the people"
sara: "so the tenryou commission... they are deliberately deceiving the shogun?"
sara: "so, i'm going to tell the shogun the truth about all of this." - after confronting the tenryou commission guy
in raiden's story quest she also says: "if you still think you can copy the fatui's strategy of providing me with deceptive information to produce flaws in my judgment..."
@@jadecoolness101 i'd like to point out something important and something hoyo has made clear, character and information can lie. If anything, i raise the question why do you believe her? Of course she'd think she knows everything in her own domain, but nothing is perfect and things fall through the cracks. If her domain were truly perfect we wouldn't have an issue in the first place no?

58 seconds in and I already see the problem, no hate but you can't analyze the raiden shogun without really knowing Ei, like that's kind of the entire point.
From my pov, I mostly only dislike how she's handled in the Archon Quests, which ive played through twice now. The Raiden shogun doesn't work, in the archon quests pretty much.
@ItsJustT Like as an antagonist and as a threat the shogun is completely unrivaled so I don't fully know what you mean by doesn't work.
