    I also absolutely love the clear inspiration from Plato's Allegory of the Cave. We've got a 'night' phase and 'day' phase, designed to mimic the movements of the true sun in the upper world. We've got 'sinshades,' after-images which appear to act or speak like people, but are truly just poor imitation only visible when our hero views them in darkness. We've got a dead culture, passed into obscurity, once centered around literal child-rulers, called 'sun-kings,' set in charge by a cruel upper class; they act as puppeteers, while their sun children play at leadership, their masters controlling them from behind a curtain.
    And, lastly, we've got the hero (Aether or Lumine, of course!) who descends into the cave, telling its inhabitants of a true upper-world. Where the real sun shines. Where the archons walk. And the inhabitants of Enkanomiya cry, or laugh, or deny it over and over. Imitations? Check. False light? Check. A duped mistrustful populace, happy to keep their shadows? Check. And a hero, descending to the netherworld, unbelieved? Check. This is the Cave, literally.

    I personally love how, if you don't do The Moon-Bathed Deep, you could go the entire game and never realise that Enkanomiya _exists._ I (re)started playing while the Three-Realms Gateway Offering was ongoing, and not wanting to miss out on the event, all I knew was that I needed to complete this particular quest to access it. I was completely surprised when I found myself in a whole different map, and was in awe after seeing the wide open space with floating islands. It's easily my favourite area aesthetically. Also the music's good, Enjou deserves to be playable, and Before Sun and Moon is a mind-shattering lore dump.

    I really like exploring Enkanomiya, a true pearl indeed. This just reminded me why I couldn't build Yae Miko early, because her boss material is end quest of this place.

    Man, every nation of Teyvat story feels like it's own game. I can definitely see the Fontaine story quest being its own separate story in a different game. Continuing with that theming, Inazuma is like a game that has a very short run time until the credits, but has a monstrously good postgame.

    I wish there were more reasons for me to go back there and explore, like farming enemies that are specific to the region for talent or weapon materials. I feel like I haven’t been to enkanomiya, since I finished my quests there, I was farming boss parts for Yae Miko but I don’t even think that counts. I’ve experienced this with Tsurumi Island too.

    love the video, enka is definitely my favourite place in genshin and I loooved exploring it. that was before the sumeru expansion, though, so I cant say Id like to explore it again. I liked your impression of it being so isolated as a good thing because I honestly saw that as a terrible thing from a gameplay standpoint. on the one hand, it being so incredibly hidden is a major downside as most wont even know it exists in the game, and while I can see that being a cool "hidden door" or something hidden behind a waterfall, I found it incredibly tasteless to hide a character boss inside.
    having to unlock the entire enkanomiya exspanstion, finish ALL the quests, do ALL the exploration, just to unlock shenhes boss??? terrible horrible 0/10. I was there when it launched and I still found the entire process grating because I just wanted to play with my new shenhe and buff my ganyu and ayaka but I wasnt allowed to until basically speedrunning half the patch, and I can just imagine how vexing it would be as a new player to have to repeat that after obtaining shenhe.
    at that point itll be easier to just bench shenhe or whoever uses it but then theyll miss out on such a gorgeous and complex area... or not be able to appreciate it because they feel the need to skip the story.
    I know for me personally I was speeding through the story for the most part despite not yet being at the point where I skip dialogue, and I didnt even know who enjou was when he revealed himself lol, im so used to an enemy jumping out after dialogue so I didnt even question why there was a new enemy and started fighting.
    still I really loved the color scheme and the ost is beautifully sad and melancholic... I would honestly prefer if parts of fontaine looked/ sounded more like enkanomiya as the whimsical landscape feels far divorced from the supposed "wealth reigns supreme and the children are sick and traumatised" story that the books and world quests constantly talk about. I dont know, thats more a personal thing.
    enkanomiya lore was so fascinating I went and read every book I could find inside, even though everything was so confusing I had to just look up explanations afterwards anyway haha

      Never been too invested in the lore of the world's past like the primordial one or the whole backstory of Enkanomiya, mostly interested in the present or recent past because I'm character driven
      But enkanomiyas backstory is pretty cool and straightforward once you look into it yeah and my isolation points were mainly meant to be neutral, not good or bad because really it's a burden and a benefit simultaneously imo

      I have a slight hope that with Natlan being a nation of dragons, they will move or duplicate Vishaps boss fight to solve this issue. Hoyo has been improving QoL since 4.0 and even started enabling "free" teleports for easier progression, so moving a boss to more accessible area seems within realm of possibility.

    • @amandaslough125
      @amandaslough125 6 месяцев назад

      @@GnidelYou can still bypass issues by using good artifacts and weapons. I had Yae who also uses said boss, and it's not a problem having her at 40 while the rest were about or above 50. Artifacts make up half your stats. And that was before dendro. It's really only an issue if you avoid exploration as a whole.

    • @Gnidel
      @Gnidel 6 месяцев назад

      @@amandaslough125 I don't have that issue anymore. I am day 1 player with AR60 and tons of leveled up characters with good artifacts. However it's an issue for new players with fresh accounts who will happen to get Shenhe. My hope is purely for other players.

    Enkanomiya sunk deep after release because of the god awful quest and writing of inazuma region(began with archon quest and cascade into character quest + event quest).
    Despite amazing atmospheric soundtrack the world quest and introduction quest of enkanomiya are at best lackluster or just vague on purpose, especially the event quest that just cut off halfway with the fake snake miko just simply leave.
    Overall a little bit better than the surface with its kingdom heart vibe but contribute to inazuma region failing

      @@amandaslough125 That is what you would call the region’s STORY failing. I agree that the middle of the story fell out, but I’ve seen many people claim it was their favorite. But, a region, as it turns out, is made up of a combination of aspects with the archon quest being one. I had a much better time exploring and 100% Inazuma’s zones than I did Lihue’s as it had much cooler set pieces and thought it was a more interesting region overall. But I wouldn’t call Liyue a “failure”. It’s obvious hyperbole.

    • @amandaslough125
      @amandaslough125 6 месяцев назад

      @@gmoney9469I mean. Half the playerbase has ptsd from fighting so many spectors being spectors and the samurai having terrible drops. And it's a pain needing the boat. I love all the regions but I'm also fully aware Liyue's tall cliffs made it a pain to explore with early game no-stamina. Which is why each one since have spiderman-web based traversal gimmicks of some variety. People still find Inazuma extra hostile, complaining about the storm, enemies, and barriers to unlocking everything. And people just struggling with puzzles because the common populace isn't good at puzzles or navigating (see desert complaints).
      From a gameplay standpoint no, I don't call it a failure, but it certainly has the worst execution for the archon quest and is still harder for several players.

    Sadly, the casuals are ruining Genshin because areas that are interesting like Delphi/Enka "give them anxiety" (never mind the fact they can cook food or, God forbid, build their healers like the BARBARA EVERYONE GETS FOR FREE), to compensate for no statue of the seven.
    I really hope we get an area like this in Fontaine (in Remuria) because Fontaine has been so awful as a region. It was hyped so much only to fall flat, and the only good thing about it has been the AQ. The only characters that are exciting are Neuvillette, Furina, and Navia too. That's pretty rough out of such a big roster, and we get just some glupshitto Harbinger in Arlecchino who is every Genshin cliche in one character/badly written with obvious desperate retcons to avoid controversies. Now she's a "saint" that "rescues" children when before she was hinted to be basically a psycho, and they pulled Crucabena out their ass when it is clear she was never supposed to exist. That is why we got that 7 minute short, because they never bothered to put any of that anywhere in the YEARS since we've known of Arlecchino, and they made all the lore we got about her in Inazuma/the Chasm completely irrelevant with a forced "twist."
    Making a character convoluted isn't the same as making them complex. DOTTORE is a complex character, a bit too complex given his nuances go over the head of woke Twitterites, but at least he is well-written, unique, and not cliche. We also knew part of his backstory from the Fatui artefact set (Wise Doctor's Pinion), so it didn't come out of nowhere, and the set hints at Zandik being badly hurt/possibly even framed by the Akademiya, where he expects Pierro to want to insult or even kxll him like the Akademiya and his hometown did. We know that he was rejected from Sumeru City twice, too, and that he hopes for a reconciliation with Nahida, which is why he doesn't go all out in Sumeru's AQ, or even destroy Scaramouche, so we see the gentler side of him there, as well as the more innocent side of him in Sohreh's research notes, his own research notes/reports where we see him go from wide-eyed innocence to just being jaded, though never wilfully cruel. He simply grew indifferent to suffering after the Akademiya exile which clearly affected him a lot, and the harsh life in the desert he had to endure before being basically soft-forced into the Fatui (it was either that or die in the desert/never conduct research again, all for possibly even just being framed as far as we know, it's not like the Akademiya especially under Azar isn't corrupt.)
    But yeah, Delphi/Enka was so much fun, I really hope that we see areas in the dark sea in the future, because it is a very interesting place. Can't wait until we properly see the abyss for that matter, too.
    It's just such a shame that Fontaine is so boring and its cast aside from the archon/sovereign is pretty forgettable. I cried more at the Sakura cleansing ritual WQ and the chasm quests than a lot of the Fontaine stuff tbh, though I like Navia, her not even grieving Mellus and Silver felt so unnatural. These "stoic" female characters that are ruining Western gaming with basically having no flaws/no human emotions, which Arlecchino reeks of, are just boring. Even the short that we saw had her be basically stone-faced the whole time, it's unnatural and makes her difficult to relate to as a human being.
    Childe had it not been for his SQ would fall there too, and as much as I hate Scaramouche, at least the cutscenes from the Sumeru AQ made you understand his perspective. Signora I think suffered from this a little in-game as well, they should have showed her backstory and the more innocent side of her so that people could understand her instead of just deeming her an ice queen that is "evil," she is easily the one Fatui harbinger who actually did the most good, in sacrificing her body to protect Mondstadt from the abyss even after Rostam died.
    Arlecchino just kxlls a few treasure hoarders and we're supposed to worship the ground she walks on for her being marginally better than pdf files lmao? It's laughable in the extreme, but it matters because the kind of people who would like a character like that are the same people who would find Enka "anxiety-inducing" or "too difficult" and the same people who are responsible for the shxtty mini game events we keep getting that literally no one wants, as well as the manufactured drama with Sumeru/Natlan characters. They will kxll Genshin if we don't speak up and get rid of them, like they have killed many IPs before them. Because to them, "it's just a game" when you point out that they are murdering it, but it's not just a game when they make their ridiculous demands. You can throw free stuff there too, they are the ones harassing VAs and pushing stuff like Cookie Run (lmaooo) as Genshin replacers, showing they have neither understanding nor appreciation of what Genshin is as a game.
    Genshin honestly needs to go back to its roots as a combat/exploration game and stop trying to be animal crossing/nintendogs. Literally no one asked for a cat-petting "event," and if it weren't for the freemos no one would play it. Same with the TCG though that can at least be interesting sometimes, but really, it would be better to have something like HSR's endgame stuff than playing cards or building teapots. Players have been begging for that kind of thing for ages now, or even another Enka where you can farm for drops and have a good time USING YOUR CHARACTERS. Especially when there's no resin, these kinds of areas tend to shine more, and it's more fun than playing cards or building a teapot. If I wanted to play cards I would play a tcg irl, and if I wanted to play animal crossing I would play animal crossing....
    Genshin is a game about elemental reactions, exploration, and combat. Anyone who doesn't like those things needs to find a different game since it is clearly not for them. It is also a game that has hot husbandos/waifus, anyone who has a problem with that once again needs to find a different game.
    There are a TON of Western games with all of these boring things they can play, but they won't because they KNOW it sucks. They can't stand to see other people having fun so they have to murder our game too, and just bring drama, like the Twitter Beckies complaining about Sumeru and Natlan, despite the fact Hoyo has done a great job with Sumeru, and seems to be doing well with Natlan if leaks are true.
    Hopefully Remuria will redeem Fontaine, and it will be like Enka, because so far Fontaine is EASILY the most boring region to explore. I have 100% exploration in every other place, except stuff in Sumeru I'm leaving open for Dottore when he comes home, but otherwise I would have 100% there too. Fontaine I don't even have 70% exploration in some areas because its mostly underwater trash where you have to use the animals, and that is extremely boring. Not even free Primogems are enough to convince me to put myself through that torture. They could have made it great too, like Enka was - it is also underwater but not boring and you can use the characters you've built.
    The lore was insane back then too. Though Fontaine has dropped some interesting lore, that's about all that can be said for it. Hardly unique when other areas and even some events do that, AND also aren't boring af. Hopefully we get to see more of the dark sea, and these casuals move on to try to ruin something else, because Genshin is easily my favourite game of all time.

    • @ItsJustT
      @ItsJustT  6 месяцев назад +2

      Im a casual, and why I agree with your opinion on Arlecchino and Fontaine, I'd disagree that casuals ruin the game. I'd argue the opposite considering most problems arise from people taking the game far too seriously, more like a job. Like there are people here aswell that dislike Enkanomiya solely because they took it too seriously and only used it to get certain items for characters
