  • Fishing for mullet with mepps spinners -
    For this video I venture out for the first time on my Savage Gear 170 Float Tube for a quick inshore fishing session whilst targeting Thin lipped mullet using mepps spinners.
    This video is ideal for those wanting to learn how to catch mullet using mepps spinners and for those interested in float tube fishing.
    With really flat & calm conditions I welcomed the idea of a few hours fishing inshore on the south coast of the island in my new toy, the savage gear 170 float tube for its first water test.
    I wanted to see how it handled on the water and how comfortable as a platform it was for fishing from.
    Fishing around the waste water outlet also known locally as the pipe, was sure to throw up a fish or two by adopting either spinning or light ledgering tactics.

      It’s usually quite common to see the thin lipped mullet jumping, splashing or fins out the water before you catch them.
      Thanks for watching it’s much appreciated.

    I had no idea this kind of SIB was even a thing. I'm too inflexible to kayak even though I'd love to. This has blown my mind, I might be able to get out onto the water after all!

      Honest to god mate if your fishing inshore on calm days or on estuary’s this this will be a game changer.. it’s super light and I carry it and all my tackle down to the water on my back.. you could put wheels on it if you wanted too!
      Thanks for watching it’s much appreciated!

    Great set up ! I’ve been thinking of changing my kayak set up ! I’m currently running a Hobie Pro Angler 14 which I have had for 3 years but I’m finding it a bit to heavy for me to transport and move around and quite difficult for beach launches and landings ! I thinking of going for a Viking and just wanted your thoughts on your set up ? Would probably need the Bixpy motor as I like to trawl and I think I will miss the Hobie Mirage Drive ! Have you ever done any footage on your set up ?
    Cheers Mike

      Hi there mike
      this float tube is ideal for inshore trips.
      The Viking Kayak I have is great with a bixpy. It’s pretty heavy once I have all the gear on it however they do a Viking Gt which is a smaller version of the reload and can have the bixpy fitted.
      The bixpy is well worth the money in my opinion buddy.

    That's class. By currents there to push you away? Have one of those and was thinking of taking it out but between current and wind I'd get swept away I think

    • @FISHISLANDTV
      @FISHISLANDTV  2 месяца назад

      Hey Marcin I hope all is well bud!
      That’s what I originally thought too matey but turns out that it seems my kayak actually catches the wind a hell of a lot more.
      The thing is I would only ever use on days with little or no wind at all and also got my bixpy motor fitted to it as well.
      It seems much easier and less time consuming than a Kayak for inshore fishing.
      my Viking reload is 15ft long and is a bit overkill for short inshore trips.
      I reckon you should give yours a go matey it’s great fun.

      Will give it another go asap. Got a feeling winter might have a say in it too and it may be a while until it’s next on the water but next chance I get il head out and try again.
      The bixpy is a beast on this thing!

      @@FISHISLANDTV I bet uk weather gets patchy this time of year , that bixpy on that will get you alot of fish I reckon, the float tubes are great for fishing areas boats don’t go in,the rapalla 100 I have is light it’s 6kg good for carrying,and you can always get valves for them easy here,as they always go on all the brands in sea water over time,hopefully you get another day out in it before winter comes, Iam getting ready here for leerfish session tomorrow tightlines mate 😎🐟👍

    Excellent, congratulations and thank you. My goal is to catch Mexican mullet 1) on floatfished bread; 2) on the fly and 3) using baited Mepps. So YOUR videos are really inspiring me. Christchurch Angling have a great video on how to adapt Mepps spinners. You though, are the first person that I have seen using coloured / transparent beads. Do you think they made a difference?

    • @FISHISLANDTV
      @FISHISLANDTV  2 месяца назад +1

      Im glad you enjoyed the video buddy.
      I have to be honest I haven’t done a lot of it before but with regards to the beads I thought I’d mix it up a little.
      I notice some people don’t use them but I like how they make the rig more ridged.
      best of luck for when you head out to catch them.
      I have a few videos on the channel that you may want to check out for bread on the float.
      Tight lines!

      @@FISHISLANDTV Yes, I HAVE watched your fab mullet videos and as I said, they really motivate me. I am originally a South Walian canal fisherman, chasing coarse fish and sight fishing, dropping bread flake in front of carp in the way that I see YOU doing with the mullet. THAT is how I want to fish for mullet here. Along with trying out some UK mullet flies and thirdly . . . some baited Mepps on a "soft" light spinning rod as I see you doing today. One chap that I have watched makes a rigid "boom" behind the Mepps and in front of the hooks - he says that it makes the bait follow the spinner in a more natural fashion. All fascinating stuff.

    • @FISHISLANDTV
      @FISHISLANDTV  2 месяца назад

      That sounds great.
      yeah definitely a soft rod is ideal mate for the mullet.
      The one I’m using in the video is the abu Garcia devil spin 10-30g

    • @FISHISLANDTV
      @FISHISLANDTV  12 дней назад

      Hi mate
      it’s just a dive reel connection to 1m of anchor chain.
      I use the railblaza cleat system fitted with a railblaza ring to the tube as the mount.
