I think the best way to honor his memory is for local news and TV stations to focus only on local issues, and foster and encourage small and local businesses to have primetime to promote their business. Huell gave his show a lot of personal touch, like if he was a tour guide on a small town, but it happened to be the state of California as a whole.

This is the place where I first learned about Nikola Tesla and the invention that he considered his most important one, his coil. The man deserves more attention and respect for what he achieved, and didn't deserve to pass on in obscurity. The observatory itself is my most favorite place in town to go to, and I've had the good fortune to visit many times there by myself and with friends!

I have such love and fondness for the Griffith Observatory. It seemed almost magical when I was a child, and even today in my twilight years brings me back. The architecture is amazing, and the displays even more so. I hope it continues to inspire and educate well into the future, and I feel privileged to have been born in a time when such things are possible. On a sad note I think I'd be a little remiss if I didn't mention Huell. He was a transplant to California but became something of a California icon himself. His demise form prostate cancer was a blow to his many fans, and he is missed greatly.

My Father came up to this observatory in about 1939 or 40, and then later on our family spent many wonderful weekend excursions up at Griffith Park and the observatory...my Father just loved this place, as he thought that Nature was just wonderful to learn about.

My father met Huell for the first time at Farmer's Market about twenty years ago or so, and put in some words for him while being interviewed about his experiences there. And both my father and I had the good fortune of hearing him speak at the LA Convention Center back in 2010 while the travel convention was taking place. Excellent speaker and interviewer who could really put on the charm. Hard to believe he's been gone for the last ten years. 35:43

This was a bit of time travel for me because I got to visit in '09 for the first JJ Abrams Star Trek premiere. I think I only spent something like two hours at the planetarium (probably half of that in a show) but it made a big impression on me as vivid as anything else. Like we saw guys from LOST at the after party - no big deal really compared to the Observatory.
in particular it's great to see a bit of things I don't recall getting a chance to look at like the Camera Obscura. And the planetarium's seat covers still have plastic on them! I think this video just about does the place justice - it was incredibly clean and shining all about.

I really wish that Huell would have done a shoot at the downtown L.A. Tommy's hamburger joint at Rampart. Now, THERE'S a story! Some "B-roll" of the restrooms would add even more spice than their special chili recipe provides.

Excellent. Wish my back could still handle a plane flight. We here in S.F. have a digital projector now, and the contrast of the show is nothing like the old Zeiss projection. We don't get the blacks you get from the old projection system. Naturally, the projectors don't create the blacks, but the digital lighting adds a fog to the surface of the dome. That new Zeiss looks just awe inspiring....

San Francisco's California Academy of Science used to have a planetarium just as cool as this. But Mayor Gavin Newsom gutted the planetarium and now (well, the last time I was there in 2015) it had replaced it with a propaganda film, just a video really, played on part of what was once the dome of the planetarium, all about climate change and how we humans are ruining the planet and how climate change is something we must do something about. It's not really anything any person can do a thing about. Yet the Academy doesn't try to affect the world in a far more easily accessible and, as far more influential on mankind's existence, obesity and isolation/depression and violent crime in an increasingly sidelined black American community. Newsom has a sick agenda.
