    I got to meet Mr. Howser two years before he passed, so glad I was able to tell him how much he inspired me in the natural history of California , and how his show motivated me to become a park ranger . I miss him,he was a great person.

      check out universities with recreation and parks programs or parks management programs! I got my undergrad degree in recreation parks and tourism from San Francisco State. best decision I ever made, lots of my friends are interpretive rangers now. go for it!

    Huell made great, great television, which is a very hard thing to do when its a documentary. No script, no actors, no director, no special effects, just off the cuff and yet outstanding programming by Huell Howser, and very good camera work by Luis. One of a kind TV, I wasn't going to watch the full hour but got hooked the first couple of minutes and could not turn it off. BRAVO.

    Huell Howser was a national treasure and I think there should be a monument to him somewhere. I just came back from a visit to Joshua Tree about a week ago and it was stunning. Those rocks are indeed more than just rocks. One looks just like a skull and you can see faces and inscriptions all over the place. We took long walks and the desert cactus and brush is beautiful. I would recommend people visit this place but take only pictures and leave only footprints. Also, we ate lunch at a picnic table right next to the Oasis. The whole time we were there I felt like I could feel the spirits of some of the early Mexican cowboys and later wagon trains that must have stumbled in there, parched from the desert, to get a cool drink of water. It was a strange feeling.

    Watch out for quicksand. There are pits of it that form here and there in the park out in the hills. Scary, I once fell in one up the my neck but friends were there to haul me out. Also there is a mystery insect that makes the oddest most bizarre sound that no one has ever seen an example of. Even entomologist are stumped by this one. You can hear it seemingly less than a foot in front of your face and hard as you might try you won't be able to spot it. PRO TIP: Your chance at 15 minutes of fame starts right here folks.

    my late neighbor had a Desert Tortoise named "Homer" she had him since the 1950's and a couple years before she passed away at 96 in 2010, she gave him to a tortoise sancturary in Sacramento, He had lived in her back yard and hybernated under a end table in her patio room.

      @punchline43 9 лет назад +4

      1971SuperLead That's because he's less of a reporter and more of an interviewer, it's just always been the style of the show seeing things from the host's (inquisitive) perspective. Huell was good at that and personally, I always thought he was plenty informative in the many years of programs he did.

    They go into Joshua Tree and on a path and the young lady explains there are interesting things one can see there. As you go along and look at different things one can go right off the path and get lost and cannot find their way back. But that is with any National Park taking it all in and walk away from the path and go missing. It seems many people keep going instead of stopping and wait till help comes. In the end, they are lost and missing and never return. Nut this guy had someone to guide him and that is good.
