Some network should have the Huell Houser/Anthony Bourdain hour. Both were unique is their own way. Huell traveled around California while Bourdain travelled the world.

I Love Huell Howser.
This was one of my family's favorite shows when the kids were growing up. We all looked forward to each new episode, and had fun re-watching our favorites, and planning trips to see the places Huell visited. The kids are now grown and gone, but we still talk about and say "California's Gold" in our best Huell Howser voices 😊. He is missed.

The people in this video aren't that different to today; Huell was just both naturally charismatic, and an extremely skilled broadcaster. That rare combination of natural talent and skill will never fail to bring people out of their shells, even today.
Anyone who's ever tried their hand as an on-camera host can immediately tell that Huell is an absolute master.
Huell looked like a 50s weightlifter. I heard he lifted 2 hrs every morning, that is goals.

I saw the recent visit to Pink's on Jordan the Lion's RUclips channel. I had tears watching this. I miss Huell Howser. I watched his shows in the 90's when I still lived in Southern California.
If there was even an example of California's Gold, Huell is it. Thank you for all you did for this state. Rest well sir.
They named Mr. Howser's favorite hotdog in his honor, the Huell Howser dog. RIP xo

"Oh my gosh ! " thank you Huell for your woundeful programming. As a side note; if you ever get the chance to see his window cleaning of skyscrapers, do not pass on viewing it. It's hilarious.

One of my all-time favorite Huell's. He's at his top form here. This and his trilogy of the desert around Salton Sea are his finest works, IMO. What a great presenter. Reminds me of Rick Sebek in the same PBS media vein, in Pittsburgh.

Great episode, Pinks is a great place to eat Chili Dogs at, I ate there a few times when I visited Los Angeles, I especially liked all the actors signed pictures on the walls. In San Jose, California we have Marks Hotdogs that is also great and uses Stephens Meats hotdogs.
Huell lived around the corner at the El Royale Apts on Melrose...I can see why he frequented Pink's all the time....

I lived one block away on Sycamore St. around 1973 and then later on around 1978 lived on Detroit St. 2 blocks away. Both times were literally parallel to their location even facing towards Pinks. However, I've never been a huge hot dog fan so I usually get the chili cheese Tamale which most people might not even realize they have. Because they also had Pinks Racing pictures on the wall I used to think they were related to each other but, recently found out that's not true. Pinks will definitely always have a soft spot in my heart.

I've been there the hot dogs are pretty good but not to die for. The best thing pinks has is their onion rings absolutely awesome.

Simpler times
I'm going to stop and check them out if they still in Los Angeles area Pink's hot yum yum yum I love hot dog if you got a quarter pounder or half pound of hot dog regular that's good already keep up the good work and feed them miles James up in the Bay area
Sometime around the 2010s, Pinks had a policy that allowed customers to skip the line if the had physicians appointments or worked for air traffic control. Someone lied and cheated the system, a few thugs invited him on a boat under the guise that he was the 1000000th customer- they "took care" of the line cutter. The policy has since been abandoned.

I think I know why he didn't, but I wish Huell would have asked the Pink family if they still eat their own hot dogs and if so, how often. Just curious is all. I never hear that question asked of restaurant owners when someone interviews them. I sure would.
Mrs. Pink said, there are people with black ties (coming from a fancy dinner or whatever) but no one can pass up a Hot Dog 24/7~its comfort food~~
Here’s a hint. The snap is natural casein. ( intestines. ). Casper hot dogs have that. But Miller Frank’s, those are great all beef 🌭. Those are sol at sport arenas. If you like the big old fashioned Costco hotdogs, you’ll love Miller Franks! The best way to cook them is room temperature, deep fried in peanut oil or lard. Steamed, but make sure the waters simmering before you add the hot dogs. Low and slow. 3-4-21 🌭🍔🧉🥪❤️✌️

That was the coolest interview I have ever seen ! It's something I would do if still in broadcast production ! I live in Westen Canada and have not been to LA since the US Festival in 1983 and hope to get back hopefully) just to go to a place I've read and heard about most of my life but did not have a chance to get to...PINKS. Awesome Huell !

Nothing against Huell but pinks wasn’t all that. They don’t even toast the bread on those hot dogs. I ordered a mushroom hot dog and cheese and it was nasty . Won’t go again . I rather eat the hot dogs wrapped in bacon they sale at the alleys in downtown
Nothing against you, but anyone that puts mushrooms and cheese on a hot dog or eats dogs on "toasted buns" deserves to be disappointed.
