      I completely agree. Now that I finished this one base, I'm going back and eyeing all my other PUP's trying to figure how I am going to customize all their bases. This could be dangerous, because I can now see myself buying more PUPs.

      I highly recommend watching it twice. The first time can be a little bit confusing at the start with the movie mechanics (don't want to spoil it). I think when I finished it the first time, I was like "huh...", but the second time I was like, "Wow, this is really good." But then again, the movie just hit some notes that resonated with me.

    This video really inspired me. I ended up making a stand for my PUP of Black Rock Shooter, using masking tape to create a checkerboard pattern on the surface of the stand.
    For my first attempt at something like this, it turned out pretty well. Next I intend to do one for Dead Master. Just need to figure out how I'm going to make the slit meant to support her scythe.

    How did you gauge where to put the foot pegs and decide what kind of bit to use? This looks awesome, I might try it for my Kaguya Sama ones!

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +13

      Well, there are right ways and wrong ways, and I probably went about it the wrong way. To gauge the foot pegs, I placed the figure where I wanted them on the base, then lifted it up slightly and used a toothpick to "hold the spot" until I could set the figure to the side. Then I placed the drill bit where the tip of the toothpick was pointing and drilled. First hole was super easy. The next ones... not so much. But, I kind of used the same method. Picking up the figure, sticking one of the pegs slightly in the hole. Then tilt it so I can get that toothpick under the next peg.
      As for drill bit. With the figure not in a base, I measured the bits against the pegs (basically by making their tips touch and comparing sizes). Note: the pegs were attached to the feet on this figure (I imagine some figures you might have to get a thick wire and create your own peg). Anyway, I tried to match the drill bit width with the peg, and if the figure couldn't fit in the drilled hole, I would re-drill it with slightly large peg. Taki came out perfect. Mitsuha not so much, it was hard to see in the grass, so I sized up... Big mistake. I made the hole too big which caused her to tilt and wobble heavily. To fix this, filled the holes up with hot glue and re-drilled with a smaller bit. This fix actually was pretty cool because it left a layer of rubbery dry glue between the peg and the wood, and it made it feel quite secure. (which is great that it worked out since I didn't want to glue my figures to the base).

      The top surface diameter of the base is ~16 cm or ~6.25 inches. Though I feel anything between 6 - 8 inches would work for these figures. I found the wood base at a hobby shop, though you also find them on Amazon if you search 'round wood plaque'. Hope this helps.

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  2 года назад +2

      I eyeballed them by lining the drill bit up to the pegs. For Taki, his pegs fit snug into place. Mitsuha is hard, because her pegs are short and the grass kind of pushes her out of her holes. Plus it's hard to drill accurately with all the grass in the way.
      Initially my Mitsuha was wobbly, so I put hot glue in the holes, and redrilled them smaller. Then the dried hot glue did act like a rubber grip to keep her in place.

    • @Battletide.
      @Battletide.  Год назад +1

      Not a bad idea. I think if I was to approach this, I would repaint the pillar to a brown dirt/rock color, so the figure has more color instead of only black and gray. And then at the bottom of the base, I would dismember a bunch of action figures of monsters or demons or something, and leave their corpses all around the base covering the hexagon.... also, gotta ensure lots of blood on the corpses below. I think that would suit the figure.

      Nope, my MFC is linked in the description. But his custom bases are much more fancier than mine. I know he did a Your Name base that uses the same grass (I think), but he might be using a grip tape instead of a shingle to mimic the road. And it's probably smarter that he made the base smaller, wish I thought of that since mine takes up a bit of real-estate.
