    I don't understand why so many people say they hate tofu?! It doesn't taste like anything.. it's all about how you prepare it! I'm sure if they were to make it like this they wouldn't be saying that aha, looks amazing! P.s. your voice is incredible! xx

      I describe it just like it was any other dish. It's definitely in how you prepare it like anything else. Usually those people have given it a go once or twice and had a bad experience. But with chicken, beef or fish etc. I've had more than one bad experience when it wasn't prepared to my liking.

    I was skeptical, because in all my years of being a vegetarian, almost every recipe, you have to press your tofu first. (Or freeze/thaw it). I had some extra firm tofu I needed to use, and OMG..I was shocked at how easy and delicious this was!! Thank you so much for this video, its life-changing for someone lazy like me. :)

  • @samh659

    If your tofu doesn't taste like anything, boil it first with salt water and let it rest for a few hours you will get quite a delicious tofu (my favourite is fried and top with sweet soy sauce -that includes garlic, shallots and tomatoes, p.s : add lime juice if you want more acidity with your sauce). Eating it this way with rice is definitely the way to go🤤

You all can imagine the look on her face in reaction when I said Tofu! Ha. I purchased two bricks, extra firm. I bought Diana Sauce to cover the Tofu in case I didn't like it. No worries. I opened one of the packages, cut a piece to eat right away. Excellent. I gave one of the two bottles of Diana Sauce to my roommate. I will never use it. I love Tofu just the way it is! I am converted to Tofu. Best wishes for healthy eating to Everyone in 2023!

    My issue with tofu is that sometimes when I get it, it tastes super bland on the inside while it's flavored on the outside. When the flavor goes all the way through I love it, but it's kinda hit and miss with me.

    • @patty-cf7jj
      @patty-cf7jj 7 лет назад +66

    • @annalynn9449
      @annalynn9449 7 лет назад +37

      i cut mine super thin, press it (one reason i feel pressing it is important is because it absorbs flavor a lot more when its pressed)...i then usually toss it with salt..soy sauce..and mustard. it really absorbs the flavor when you use liquid seasonings.

    • @jacknoonan9172
      @jacknoonan9172 7 лет назад +76

      You need to marinate thinner slices in a sauce for a few hours or overnight. The tofu won't take in any of the flavours of the sauce using this chick's method, it's just coating the outside (the exact problem you're having/don't like). I made peanut/soy sauce flavoured tofu the other week... and oh my goodness, it was heavenly. Pressed the tofu and then marinated it for two hours before cooking... ahhhhh

    I have dysphasia and have to eat soft, slippery, semi-solids, so tofu is the perfect food to me. I actually make it into a scrambled, without pressing the water out, and sauté it in a skillet same as yours, with a touch of butter/oil (I’m not strictly vegan I just don’t have the ability to eat a lot of meat and am lactose sensitive, but I use a little dairy like butter and eggs). My seasoning I use chicken seasoning, garlic powder, onion powder, pepper, and curry. About a teaspoon of everything but the curry powder which gets a full tablespoon. Then I cook until it looks like fluffy brown scrambled eggs at the texture I want. Put on a plate and serve it with House of Tsang Bangkok Peanut Sauce. It is the best,and despite its appearance to wet cat food it is actually delicious if you like those flavors and don’t care too much about presentation or texture.
    Or I’ll toss it into a jar of simmer sauce, and serve over jasmine or basmati rice.

    I made some in chicken finger shaped slices and it came out very good. The hubby liked it. Next time I will add the nutritional yeast to see if I can get a more chicken flavor. Even my 19 year old and 9 year old were loving it. Thank you for showing us how to get the good crunchy outside from the tofu. I made Eli's homemade vegan ranch sauce and wowie it was good!

    Thank you, for posting your recipe. I am changing up my food menu again. I have decided to eat Tofu. First time for me. I was searching online for a super easy recipe. I don't want to do a lot of work in the kitchen preparing food. I want to prepare tofu, fast, healthy, and cheaply. I like your narration style, and apparently I am not the only viewer who likes the sound of your voice. So many videos I have to turn off the sound, and read the subtitles. Not everyone is made to narrate content. Good luck with your channel. Looking forward to more recipes. Happy New Year to Everyone. Sending lots of Love to all of you from London, Ontario, Canada.

    I freeze my tofu.that drastically changes the texture and it's way better. I defrost then press out the water, no need to way it down just grab the block and press some of the water out. Perfection!

    My favorite way that I've learned how to cook it (From "The Vegan Zombie") is the same way they showed how to cook tempeh. Braise it in a good broth mixed with spices and liquid smoke for 45 minutes and refrigerate it for a few hours or overnight. It soaks up all the yummy flavors and then cook it how you showed! Great tutorial!

    I tried it, it tasted weird but was edible. I guess I didn't wait long enough to get it cooked properly. Also, I guess I added wrong sauce : ginger garlic paste. That's all I had here on Sunday.
    Thanks Sarah! You're awesome.

    Hmmm I'll have to try this. I'm fairly new to tofu and I've been cuting it into cubes and baking in the oven before using in stir fry. It looks a lot easier to just do the steaks in a pan

    I do wonder how many people who have commented on this video have actually tried out the recipe, though I figure not many.
    Without draining the tofu of the water before frying nore giving the sauce any time to get into the tofu all this recipe does achieve is making the sauce stick to the outside of the otherwise hardly like anything tasting tofu. It's like eating chips that taste like nothing with an amazing dip. Sure you can do it and it won't taste bad but it is so much potential flavour missed out ...
    Draining tofu properly and letting it sit in sauce / marinade over night in the fridge does barely take up any time, all it does need is a little preparation in advance. Just 15 minutes of squezing the tofu will have a huge impact, time you can use making your own sauce instead of the store bought stuff. Do that at least an hour in advance or more conviniantly the day before and you'll improve your tofu's taste a lot.

    Thank you for cutting into yours. I just cooked some tofu as a meal prep and was a little scared because it was mushy still. I’ve never had tofu before so I thought I would give it a try. I definitely appreciate this video !

    also freeze the tofu before you use :) will make it more firm and will act like a sponge so you can squeeze the water out with your hands and it'll taste more chewy and soak up marinades/sauces a lot better too :)

    Hi, new sub here, commenting to say A. Thank you for this vid, I've been wanting to go totally OF but am still learning how to do that w certain things, and tofu is one of them- I've rarely used it just as tofu, iykwim- like, I usually just use it to blend into mousses or puddings, or just as in ingredient in some other dish- I usually just use legumes as my "main." Plus I don't have a tofu press and I didn't want to be bothered w it, so learning I don't hafta do that is a game changer!! Also/B. I hope this ok to say (ik some ppl feel its taboo to comment on other ppls bodies, even in a positive way), but your midsection looks amazing, hella toned, and I'm jelly!!🤩 Thats where I tend to carry any extra weight I have & I can't stand it, its my biggest problem area.... But tbf I don't specifically work out (I just eat PBWF & walk a lot, but maybe I should throw in some like, specific stomach toning exercises, too. (But also the thought of specifically exercising for exercising's sake is like 👀💀 to me.😂🤷‍♀️)

    • @SarahsVeganKitchen

      Yaaay I'm glad you enjoyed! I haven't found a way to make tofu taste super similar to eggs, but I found that adding some black salt helps. It contains sulfur so it will give you that more "eggy" flavor/smell.
