I travel highway 50, “the loneliest road in America” a few times a year. Ely is my halfway mark from my house to my daughter’s house in Utah. So I bisect Nevada. I love that drive! Elk, pronghorns, desert bighorn sheep, deer, rabbits, and coyotes are the animals I’ve actually seen from the road while living in Nevada. Mountain lions are out there, along with skunks, ground squirrels, pack rats, and tons of mice!! I’m really enjoying this chapter in my life! Turning 70 in a year, I’m in better shape than I was at 60! Enjoy your travels and keep sharing your ideas for locations. I visit them from time to time!
You and I are about the same age. I'm finishing up a trailer a wee bit smaller than Rick-N-Linda's, and have already experimented with the trailer cabin passive pressurization. One day I may even do a video. Imagine that. Who knows. But I'm excited! and responding to your comment in particular because it is Nevada I wish to explore. Driving remote regions of Nevada in a rig similar to what we see in this video will be my version of sailing solo across the Pacific... but I like to think I'm prepared for it. I've been prepping for this chapter of my life for two decades. Recently retired. Here's wishing you continued safe passage across Nevada!
Awesome. Owen's valley is my old stomping ground, " Bristlecone" perked up my ears. So y'all are on the other side of the mountain from our Valley. Many generations of us are buried there. Love Y'all.
the length of your truck is 17.5 feet long the suburban model is 15.2 inches longer rick, ! to heck with the arrow heads the wash your talking about you should be full of gold , due to the run off of the mtn, i would be running a dry washer and try my luck , the arrowheads are great to have but gold is better? i remember a place that hapen in az outside of Black Canyon City back a few yrs and they had turned a mining operation into the city dump, that day i made 12.75 oz of gold just sitting there with my gold detector, down a wash? 1 chuck as 4.55 oz itself.

Wow, what a nice location👍. Wish my ex-wife would have loved the outdoors but the first time I took her out hiking she said I was trying to kill her 🤣and I almost had to carry her back to the truck. Definitely a city girl. That was the last hike for the two of us but took my kids out when they got older. Now it's just me so if I want to go I go. No dust in my van when driving only when am parked with the doors open. I did find that if I point my fan at the open door it seems to help. Can't wait to see those ovens I had forgotten about them but now remember my dad taking me there when I was a kid back in the 1960s. No time for bear spray I go for my weapon, and practice drawing often. I did see a woman who had her bear spray on a rope around her neck that was long enough to still spray quickly but it does swing around when you're hiking. Have fun, you two are lucky.
I use a Hill People Snubby Kit bag. They make chest packs that fit well even while wearing a backpack or hydration pack. I use it for mountain biking, and dirt bike riding. I also like it because you don’t have anything on the hip to snag while riding or scrambling up rock bluffs.
My wife, when our twins were still little girls, had a purse the size of Texas, with all the stuff a mom needs to carry for kid emergencies and what not. One time, she told me, she had that purse in the passenger seat and it set off the seat belt warning bell, lol. So, Linda’s purse with all its contents, is a plus out there in the big, wide world.
Always good to have 4-wheel drive! Good ground clearance is a plus too. Hope you found the cooler temps with the higher elevation and a storm passing through. Enjoy those views!
Loved this area when I passed through. Linda, as I lay here in the hospital having had the second knee surgery today, I’m so inspired to get back out there with metal in both knees! You’re my inspiration!
I've been following and enjoying your channel for quite a while now. I value the sensible info from you both when exploring and camping, basic but comfortable. I'd be very interested in your preferences, knowledge, use, etc. about effective self-protection in the wilderness. I know that RUclips doesn’t allow firearm videos unless they are age restricted. Would you ever consider making a small channel that would cover firearms and safety in the wilderness? The “gun” channels I've found aren’t really suitable for wilderness protection for the everyday person. I get the sense that Rick and Linda know a thing or two, especially with Rick's interest in early US firearms 😊.
@@gonagain i’ve thought it a few times and decided to ask you after seeing this video. I think a lot of people would benefit from that importance information.
Chest harness, I actually have misplaced mine atm - but I never go into bear country without it for exactly that reason... bears are stinking fast and ambushy, just like cougars!
Oops, I almost forgot. Rick, that Cigar, that Super Stogie you gifted me, WOW What a Smoke. I saved it for the 4th., out in the middle of Nowhere and savored the best taste ever. It lasted a Long Time. Ya, I did misplace it for a few days as it rolled under the seat. I put it in my Humidor and brought it back to life. And of course, that little paper with the name written on what Type it was, well I need the name for that & where to order some. Thank You so much for that, I really enjoy those Big Logs Especially in the morning and scare off all the bugs buzzing around. How Nice of you. What other styles from that company do you like?? Hi Rick and Linda, Nice to see you again. You two are a hoot. Rick when you get home you need to finish the drawers so Linda can store the tape measures in the car (or you can bring a 25 footer) so you can measure the trailer😂 We are getting more 🐻s in CT. The other day one climbed up a tree behind the local downtown McDonald's. Guess he or she wanted a Big Mac. They darted it and relocated it. We need a bear hunt. CT is too populated to have bears everywhere. Don't have to worry about dust in New England. Too many trees for that. That area is beautiful, rugged but beautiful. Love the mountains. My grandpa used to find arrowheads all thru the fields when he did Spring planting. I never found any tho. Hope the family enjoyed the time in that area. Topography is very different but east coast is beautiful year round. Lots of shade. You two take care and aloha til next week. Looking forward to Linda's cooking.
Thank you for watching! The grizzly bears are proliferating in Montana and have extended their range back out to the prairies. Hope you enjoy the cooking segment on the next video.
Good God Almighty! Some of this footage (12:30 through 13:00 minutes) is glorious, indeed. Crisp, clean air! Intense, blue skies! Brilliant sun, the wonderful array of the earth and the flora of the high desert, my favorite places on Earth. The view we get a peek of from 7:50 to 8:00 is stunning. Working on my trailer galley these days! and I plan on traveling through the area you are in now some time in the early fall. Your hike (through 16 mins) is entertaining. Linda forgetting her "bear spray"... I was just moments earlier checking her belt for any appropriate accoutriments, see. Glad to hear you have yours, Rick. These things are like seatbelts, auto insurance, fire extinguishers... one hopes to never ever need them. That doesn't mean we cannot develop and maintain any proficiency in their usage, though. Tin cans, anyone? and some CCI CB Longs. Don't even need ears! Forgive me, I digress... Wait! Chest rig! Just got one, actually.
I have one of those belts, I just need to find the right holster for it when I'm hiking. I guess I'm just too picky. (The most comfortable holster I have is for conceal carry). Thank you for your input, appreciate it.

Thanks for sharing your journey again this morning Rick & Linda. I think the most practical solution for Linda with shorts and t-shirts is the fanny pack, or make sure she can run faster than Rick!
For bears or in bear area, I keep a 10 mil bear spray one in the chamber. No real point in concealed carry in the woods so I just go owb appendix or chest rig. Thank you for being good safe people.
What a gorgeous trip you've brought us on. So appreciate the wisdom you share, and the beautiful relationship you demonstrate. I always learn something new.
It looks like a good place to hunt. Hay if you kids are ever in kanab Utah Sue and I would love to take you kids to lunch or Dinner. God bless you guys thanks for another great video stay safe out there.
Hello Rick, Hi Linda, I miss Y'all Big Time, and I'm still grooving over the time spent in Cedar. Hopefully in the future, we could share a Roaring Campfire with some Rib-Eye steaks And some killer pie. (I still can't figure out how I forgot about that) I've watched all your recent vids, love them as usual, but I've been doing some radical camping myself out in the Parashant, where my special hiding places are. I Must share my homemade maps, but with consideration about the wacky road conditions out there. It might be a tad Too Rough depending on the state of the dirt, Dry or Wet. Anyway, I wasn't able to comment as being out of cell range, and I always wait a day or more as I enjoy reading All the comments. I will email today, before I head-out again. Living The Dream. God Bless You Both. Vincenzo Here.
I know you are well prepared, I assume (hope?) That you also carry an emergency rescue beacon. In the area you are in, no one is going to pass by anytime soon. But I know you know all that. You two seem like a good match, you both just love getting out there!
Saw a vanlifer who got dust hammered into his van and had to do a deep cleaning. As long as we keep all the windows shut and the cab vent blowing in, we have no troubles. But, with the cab and truck camper window pass-through open for the cats, just driving with the door windows open above 30 mph will draw sewer gas in through the toilet and p-traps. Vent things out a couple minutes ans it's fine. The little surprises we discover along the way. My head gaskets arrive today.so looking forward to getting started on that project. Take care kids. Oh, neat trip to DC for the kids. Smithsonian?
Kanoe did get to visit the Smithsonian. She had a great time visiting museums, famous landmarks, monuments, etc but her favorite was the beach. Of course. Head gasket done yet? Come on over and help us paint our house, that's the next big home chore we're looking at.
@gonagain I decided it was too dang hot to start pulling the heads today again. I will go out and drain the radiator I'm already going to miss next weeks NW Truck Camper Rally near Wenatchee. That's ok though, it's going to be up to 110 there, and that's just too too hot. I'll do a quick engine degrease and hose off using the truck camper water heater. Got radiator/engine flush and buckets to drain fluids into. I have a painting suggestion for you, read Tow Sawyer, then get your grand kids over and use the methods used on them. You'll finish in no time and be a richer man for it. 😁😆😅🤣😂
One quick way to estimate the length of something, your outstretched arms from fingertip to fingertip is very close to your height, so if you know how tall you are you can figure the width or length of something. That tree was amazing!
It can definitely be fun to explore the roads less taken. Yikes on scratching your vehicle and camper. Good idea to level out. We always carry the leveling block things. Never know when we might need them. Sure is a pretty spot! AMEN, Sister! It's so hard to find a good holster option for a woman. Generally, I just use the elastic under shirt one, however, I agree that takes time. Those few extra seconds could mean life or death with an animal or a human. When we are in the forest, I use my big holster for my 9 and just make sure my shirt is not over the top of it. I just let it show. Would love something more comfortable. Can't believe no one has come up with a better option for us pistol packing ladies. LOL I'm with Linda. We go the hard way someone best be carrying me. She cracks me up. Nothing better than old plastic water 😆Love the cactus. That tree is pretty darn awesome too! Oh man. Making us wait til next week to see the meal? Looks like next weeks vid is going to be full of some cool exploration.
Linda, I saw some around the waste style tactical fanny packs that have Velcro closures with two pull tabs, in addition to zippers. You can leave your CCP unzipped in the fanny pack and pull one of two tabs, depending on if you're right or left handed, ripping the Velcro closure open for immediate deployment.
Diamond D Custom leather in Wassila AK or PARADISE VALLEY LEATHER build a very nice chest holster. This puts it in a very convenient location and does not interfere with a back pack or when sitting .
Linda, your comment on fast acquisition holsters are very few if you are trying to conceal your firearm but there's one brand that might help and carry in public non-noticed the name of the company is (Sneaky Pete Holsters). This might be very helpful since the both of you carry backpacks. This can be wore with your shirt tucked in or outside with the tail of the shirt tucked behind the top of the holster or if it's winter, you can wear the holster with a belt over your coat.
Another inspiring video! So glad you talked about the dust again and linked that video. I was going to rewatch again to put the final touches on my trailer. Saved me a lot of scrolling 😂. 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻🤙🏻
A very enjoyable video, Rick and Linda. The scenery is spectacular and I am very envious. We living here in Ontario also have great places to go but nothing on the scale of this video. We also still enjoy our 6x10 but a long trip to Newfoundland next year we are considering options.
Linda - I have a Hill People Gear Chest Rig with a compatible holster velcro'd inside. I'm right handed and the HPG chest rig opens to the left - so left hand opens and right hand draws. It's quick.
Hey Rick, it’s very possible that old tree at the end is 3500-4500 years old. The Noation flood (Noah) of Genesis was about 4500 years ago when the water receded, and new life began. Another reason the Great Barrier Reef is about that old also. I have studied creation science and it’s fascinating the timelines and the layers in the rocks. Just like Linda even said when those Indians lived in that area where you were, the climate was probably different for foraging and farming even! Couple thousand years ago!
I believe the age of that tree would surprise all of us. I'd be more leery of mountain lions there than anything. I had one pursue me once in New Mexico and had no idea until I back tracked and saw it's tracks on mine, it could have had lunch at will. All I had was a good stick (which I immediately sharpened) and a knife, which was in my hand the rest of the day. Great Video.
Mountain lions are stealthy and not afraid when confronted. We're always leery of all the animals that would like to eat us, as Linda says. Seeing those tracks on top of ours would be scary!
@@gonagain Ha, you bet it was scary, all my hairs were standing up all day. I sat on the edge of a plateau for about an hour and he was right behind me. The only thing I can figure is that the bear bell on my pack dinged once in a while and that was a distraction, I don't know. Lesson learned that day.
Hey🙋🚗🇨🇦❤️‼️I always carry a measuring tape, lol😝😎💪🏆👍more often than a knife! We are excited to be preparing to get back down into the USA again😍 if nothing crazy happens in the next few weeks! We shall see!!! God Bless America!❤
In about 2003 I was driving a lonely dirt road in West Texas. It got very windy and a giant dust cloud blew over the road and I went from 30mph to about 10 spinning my tires, due to lots of sand and top soil that was left on the road.
I would tear that siding off section by section. Front of house first and put hardi fiber cement board in its place. It comes pre-primed. I also do all the work on my house...much cheaper and I know it's done correctly. Like you, I also do my own vehicle maintenance and oil changes too. Just replaced my AC in the lower part of the house with a 3 zone mini split system and last year put in a natural gas tankless water heater 😂
This siding went over the original siding so we may do as you suggested and remove section by section. See what shape the original is in and go from there. Next year. Thanks David.
Very funny you talk about Dust and cabin pressure because My brother Frank you recently helped with his Solar dilemma in the mountains the other day. We were talking about the Dust he got traveling back to paved road. I said Rick did a video on that He could explain it to you 😂and here you are talking about it.
I know it's the hard to carry ( whatever it is ;) comfortably) have you thought about mounting the bear spray just below your hand on your walking stick, just always have to be sure the stick is with you
Hi there again. I hope all is well with you both. Here is what I carry with me (I have a carry permit), it works very well & you can position it anywhere on you, which makes it very handy. Don't know how to leave 2 pictures for you of what I'm talking about
Enjoyed this one! I was wondering how you could keep a tow vehicle and trailer under 22’. My 2500 Chevy pickup is that long or close. Maybe a 2dr Wrangler and tiny teardrop? Ya’ll take care!
Driving through soft brush can be deceiving. I thought it was soft, but there was a 2" sawed off limb behind soft leaves. 2" branches don't give much on the side of a vehicle.😁 Lizards and toads eat ants. You probably scared it away from the ant buffet.
A Delorme State map and the iOverlander app are really helpful, but most of the time it's just by picking a road across public land to see what's out there.
When you camp where there are bears around, do you hang your food bag and/or trash with food waste inside? Or is it stored inside your camper or vehicle?
Water, first aid kit, maybe a jacket, a couple of space blankets, some trail snacks and some other survival gear. Mine would be camera gear and water. ~Rick
It's actually a small pack on a small woman (Linda). A water bottle, a windbreaker, some trail snacks, a couple of space blankets and a small first aid kit. Oh, TP and a little folding cat hole shovel!
I admire you investigative spirit, but you mentioned in today's video the thing I would be most uncomfortable about in some of the places you go. That is the danger of rapidly rising water from sudden rainstorms rushing down the road carrying everything along with it. It seems that would be more likely in areas where few people venture. Take care.
Was you being serious about your length ? Saying 25 ft. Your Sub is close to 19ft with hitch maybe over. I forget your trailer length. Ok 10 plus 4 ft hitch is 14ft. 22ft is pickup camper rig. I'm over 44 total. Big pickup! When I see pictures of paying camp sites people are parked sideways. I thought you could of got a spot just off that 2 lane cow trail. Yeah it was smooth but I don't think ever graded. That road you was on was long abandoned cow trail. Do you use a wheeled trailer jack? And carry a flat 3/4 piece of plywood. To spin your trailer around, looks like you should!
Hey Rick and Linda, I am responding to Linda's question about bear spray. I have googled and looked thru Amazon but could not find a perfect item for my idea on Linda carrying quick access bear spray, but my idea makes me think she should have something mounted to her hiking pole. I did find this and wondered if you could improvise something like this to mount it to a hiking pole... ruclips.net/video/CmQ9cF4LgGU/видео.htmlsi=z_jC8aRgOUD5GWjw Anywho... Just my thoughts... Stay safe, always, Cheryl Sorensen
I do wear it in the front when I remember it. I'd like one that I could keep the zipper unzipped or the pocket open, more like a holster would be. I guess the easiest thing would be to just wear an owb holster on my belt.
That makes them a good idea, for anyone who wants you to move along out of hearing distance. Where you shouldn't be, anyway, in the sorts of places where these folks camp.

It looks like a good place to hunt. Hay if you kids are ever in kanab Utah Sue and I would love to take you kids to lunch or Dinner. God bless you guys thanks for another great video stay safe out there.
That sounds like a great thing to do! We love that whole area so maybe one day we'll be able to meet up with you for lunch. Thank you!
Always happy to hear from you! Hope you find that special secret place but looking for it is fun so maybe don't find it too soon, haha.
I know you are well prepared, I assume (hope?) That you also carry an emergency rescue beacon. In the area you are in, no one is going to pass by anytime soon. But I know you know all that.
You two seem like a good match, you both just love getting out there!
We always carry a Garmin InReach satellite communicator and at camp we have our Starlink set up. Thanks for watching!
Beautiful country
Gorgeous views! I love the unknown 🌲🌲 envious of your setup :)
Thanks so much! 😊
Always love your sense of adventure. Travel the roads less taken.
We see that you guys are always out doing your own style of exploration!
One quick way to estimate the length of something, your outstretched arms from fingertip to fingertip is very close to your height, so if you know how tall you are you can figure the width or length of something. That tree was amazing!
That tree was amazing -- the video didn't show it's full beauty! Thanks for watching our video.
Thank you for the that info! I'm looking into that style of fanny pack.
Diamond D Custom leather in Wassila AK or PARADISE VALLEY LEATHER build a very nice chest holster. This puts it in a very convenient location and does not interfere with a back pack or when sitting .
Thank you, we're going to look at the ones that our viewers have suggested. We appreciate your input.
Thanks, I bookmarked their site!
Another inspiring video! So glad you talked about the dust again and linked that video. I was going to rewatch again to put the final touches on my trailer. Saved me a lot of scrolling 😂. 🐾🙏🏻✌🏻🤙🏻
We're always glad to help out!
@@gonagain much appreciated 👍🏻
Beautiful camping area! I’m really looking forward to your next video…take care❤
See you on the next one!
A very enjoyable video, Rick and Linda. The scenery is spectacular and I am very envious. We living here in Ontario also have great places to go but nothing on the scale of this video. We also still enjoy our 6x10 but a long trip to Newfoundland next year we are considering options.
That will be a nice trip!
Rick, the picture you posted for this video made me think of an old country song by Dwight yoakam 1000 miles from nowhere.
I'll look that one up!
: ) THANKS MUCH for ANOTHER GREAT Share! ! ! Safe travels and ALL the BEST ! ! Cheers ! :)
Linda - I have a Hill People Gear Chest Rig with a compatible holster velcro'd inside. I'm right handed and the HPG chest rig opens to the left - so left hand opens and right hand draws. It's quick.
Thanks, we're looking into their products!
Keep up the good work!
Yeah, that old cedar could be very old!
Thank you.
Like# 1! Where are those gold smelters??? I want to build a room like that, but for cooling!
Those are very near Ely, NV. It's a beautiful area to spend some time in.
Hi Jane! I always have that measuring tape and a knife, and other "essentials" in my purse. Good luck on your journey to the USA!
In about 2003 I was driving a lonely dirt road in West Texas. It got very windy and a giant dust cloud blew over the road and I went from 30mph to about 10 spinning my tires, due to lots of sand and top soil that was left on the road.
Oh man, that must have been quite the dust storm!
A random anteater at loose!
Well, ya never know!
Yep, Frank needs an air scoop!
I know it's the hard to carry ( whatever it is ;) comfortably) have you thought about mounting the bear spray just below your hand on your walking stick, just always have to be sure the stick is with you
Hadn't thought of that! It might actually balance out.
Hi there again. I hope all is well with you both. Here is what I carry with me (I have a carry permit), it works very well & you can position it anywhere on you, which makes it very handy. Don't know how to leave 2 pictures for you of what I'm talking about
You can send us a pic at our email address: gonagain21@gmail.com. I'd like to see those, hope you send them.
@gonagain I just sent you 4 pictures in 2 emails. I hope this helps you
Let me know if you need more info if this will work for you. Have a great day
It might hep to cover your bed with something like a plastic drop-cloth. Maybe not.
Have you ever done a video on how to read your potential campsite for drainage or, if it can possibly flood during a heavy rain?
We've mentioned that in a video but not in great detail.
Enjoyed this one! I was wondering how you could keep a tow vehicle and trailer under 22’. My 2500 Chevy pickup is that long or close. Maybe a 2dr Wrangler and tiny teardrop? Ya’ll take care!
Diamond D Outdoors. Very GOOD quality and excellent service, easy on/off, comfortable. I have 2 chest holsters. They make them for women. 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks for the info!
Driving through soft brush can be deceiving. I thought it was soft, but there was a 2" sawed off limb behind soft leaves. 2" branches don't give much on the side of a vehicle.😁
Lizards and toads eat ants. You probably scared it away from the ant buffet.
How do you find these great spots
A Delorme State map and the iOverlander app are really helpful, but most of the time it's just by picking a road across public land to see what's out there.
@Goneagain what caliber pistol do you guys carry for Bear protection?
WTH? Where did that TV come from? I'm working on how to figure out the vent thing too.
The Garmin RV780 gps? We caught a sale on those and liked the bigger screen.
When you camp where there are bears around, do you hang your food bag and/or trash with food waste inside? Or is it stored inside your camper or vehicle?
Most of our food and food prep is done at the back of the Yukon. While in bear country, like here in MT, we do cook away from our campsite.
What all do you carry in your backpacks one has hardly anything the other looks like it is a 90lb ruck sack
Water, first aid kit, maybe a jacket, a couple of space blankets, some trail snacks and some other survival gear. Mine would be camera gear and water.
~Rick
@@gonagainthanks you the wife and I was wondering
Hi i have question? Why does Linda carry such a big backpack? Do you carry lunch with you?
It's actually a small pack on a small woman (Linda). A water bottle, a windbreaker, some trail snacks, a couple of space blankets and a small first aid kit. Oh, TP and a little folding cat hole shovel!
I admire you investigative spirit, but you mentioned in today's video the thing I would be most uncomfortable about in some of the places you go. That is the danger of rapidly rising water from sudden rainstorms rushing down the road carrying everything along with it. It seems that would be more likely in areas where few people venture. Take care.
You need to be aware of the weather in your surrounding area, even miles away.
BUT EVEN WHEN YOU ARE TOLD WHAT TO FIND DOESN'T MEAN THE TRIP IS SAFE AT ALL OR YOU CAN HELP INTO THAT AREA IF YOU NEED HELP !...
Do you guys pi ck up ticks in county like this?
We don't but we do use Picaridin spray on our clothing and shoes.
👍👍😋
Hey Rick and Linda, I am responding to Linda's question about bear spray. I have googled and looked thru Amazon but could not find a perfect item for my idea on Linda carrying quick access bear spray, but my idea makes me think she should have something mounted to her hiking pole. I did find this and wondered if you could improvise something like this to mount it to a hiking pole...

Anywho... Just my thoughts... Stay safe, always, Cheryl Sorensen
Thanks for the suggestion, Cheryl. Appreciate you taking the time to do that.
Linda, maybe you should put your fanny pack in the front for quicker access?
I do wear it in the front when I remember it. I'd like one that I could keep the zipper unzipped or the pocket open, more like a holster would be. I guess the easiest thing would be to just wear an owb holster on my belt.
Exterior speakers are a bad idea. I dont want to listen too someone else music
That makes them a good idea, for anyone who wants you to move along out of hearing distance. Where you shouldn't be, anyway, in the sorts of places where these folks camp.
Poor quality video. Was that 1080?
Thanks!
Thank you, Kelly!
Thanks!
Thank you very much!
