    In years past did alot of motorcycling, road bike. All over the country, long distance touring and camping. Had a good friend in tow. Great memories to this today at 74. Decided as I aged that balance and reaction time had slowed and put me more at risk, so sold my last bike, Honda ST1300. Great ride. Glad you are enjoying your 2-wheel time again. Thanks for sharing once again.

    i know its hard to carry everything on a bike running for the day outing, but for the camping in that single tent a grey or black tarp under the tent is needed , the grey tarp is waterproof but the black tarp is insulated with a small film of or liner in the inside of the tarp, the felt part should up position. . just yesterday came back from pyramid lake in nv, fishing trip and camped near the lake , the wind can frost you quick, ! i placed a grey tarp over the tent completely and the wind could not come in. the trick for campers in a tent, for the cold and the wind, is tarp (blue ) on the ground first, a old large king size blanket or 2nd on top of the tarp, then the tent, on the inside anotherinside the tent, this insulates the tent completely

    Love the ferry! There was a ferry across the Kootenai River near Copeland, Idaho many years ago. We used to take the ferry to get to the West Side Road. As a child, it was a treat to take a ride on it when we would return to Idaho to visit the Grandparents. There is a bridge there now, built in late 1960's or early 1970's. Too bad. Thanks for the memories!

    Ahhhh, if only trees could talk. The things they have seen and lived through. Fun stuff, Rick! You know my dad was a huge history buff. He was especially knowledgeable of Montana history. We always talked about doing a major history trip of Montana that included all the Lewis and Clark stops and ghost towns in the state. We never got to do that trip. Every time you post a video like this, I get more and more inspired to do the trip... just me. I think I will start planning.

    Thank you for another vicarious adventure!
    Google Maps is just as bad for sending people down "roads" that are impassible or even non-existent... sending people across private property etc. The mapping software relies on county survey maps that are sometimes (often?) very outdated.
    This has gotten many people into difficult situations... It has almost gotten me a couple times. I usually research routes ahead of time and use the satellite view but even that does not always prevent problems.
    I had not been aware of the Yamaha TW200 until you purchased yours... Many years ago I had a Yamaha 175 Enduro 2-Stroke that I loved and rode many miles on... I still fondly remember the sound it made LOL "Ring ding ding ding"... I've had many motorcycles but that one was one of my favorites. LOL Now I'm looking at Yamaha TW200s... prices aren't too bad.
    Unfortunately the Missouri River is not navigable by boat from Montana to St. Louis... 6 dams along the way with no locks for boats... Yes a canoe is doable if you don't mind portaging for some distance. I was curious earlier this year and did some research... you'd have to go many hundreds of miles downstream to do the trip in any boat bigger than a canoe or kayak.... to Sioux City.
    There's also a "Canoe Camp" here locally in Orofino Idaho... it was Lewis and Clark's stop in the Nez Perce nation to resupply after crossing the mountains.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  Месяц назад

      That's right about having to portage around the dams. I saw where one guy had put a wheel on one end of his canoe for the purpose.

Living in MT most of my life I never knew of the 3 ferrys. I hauled many loads of grain out of those towns in your vid. On my bucket list is to ride those 3 ferrys, and to visit the rocks east of Butte, I think called singing rock. When I was a boy, my folks and I would visit Ft Benton and they would tell me the story of Shep. Thank you again for the wonderful vid!!!!!

    You don’t always get pie, but some times you do when you least expect it. The other day I was out mowing my acre of lawn (hopefully for the last time this year, nope it’s going to need it one or to more times)when i noticed that wild berry vine that have been threatening to cut out of the large noble fir on the property line was loaded with thumb size black berries. I drove over to the house and got my wife to come out and told her about the berries. To my surprise she came out and picked a whole bowl of berries, I helped a little. To my even bigger surprise when I came in from mowing there was a pie baking in the oven. We skipped lunch and had hot berry pie with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and coffee instead. 🥧 Not kidding the thought crossed my mind….‘I wonder what Rick’s have this afternoon?’. I’ve got to mow again in a couple days….i wonder if there’ll be pie 🤔

    That is sad about people getting stranded. It almost happened to us while we were in Idaho going from Salmon trying to get over to West Yellowstone quickly. Halfway down that valley heading to Idaho Falls our GPS pointed us off the highway and up a gravel road over the mountains (shorter). We got about a mile up that road and decided that it wasn't wise. Rule of thumb: Stay on paved roads! I love your 200cc Yamaha. I had a little 125cc Yamaha Enduro back when I was young and single. Hey Rick, part of your route may be on the Montana Backcountry Discovery Route some day, It looks like they're in the process of making it. Even if its not, I plan on checking out the Fort Benton / Breaks area out someday. I've been wondering if those ferry's were still running, now I know!

      The Montana BDR is a closely held secret until they finally release the map. I'm pretty excited about it and hope that it's ready by next year.

      I haven't had time lately to ride the Deer. It's going to feel a lot lonelier pretty soon because I'm getting another road bike. I'm going to look at a Harley today...

      I remember that. And again at that café in Ajo. She really liked Linda! And you too. It will be hard leaving here but she's getting the help she needs and I will head to our family property near Bullhead City to help my sister. Her husband has Parkinson. It a bi**ch getting old.

    What is the tall brown grass? Where deer was. Also it is everywhere. I did notice combined wheat field, not that. Looks like same grass that California has. Here it would be Fescue. California it's not Fescue, but people I asked didn't know. We don't burn up either. Looks like Montana is fire waiting to happen.

      I'm not sure of the grass, but Montana has most of the original prairie grasses.

      I think it mostly is, but the trail is far from being connected from coast to coast so it involves a lot of highways still.

    Get the seat cover by seat concepts and your butt will love it. And get the rear rack from Cycle Rack. And if you want get a bigger tank by clark . I have a xt225 4.1 gallon on my bike instead of the 1.7 gallon tank.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  Месяц назад

      That rear rack would help a lot and you saw that I was using an extra cushion. A new seat in on my list for sure.

    Please tell me about your seat cushion. You two be careful on the Honda - I made decision years ago to avoid pavement on MC when I had 3 cars in one day pull out in front of me.

    • @gonagain
      @gonagain  Месяц назад +1

      It's a stadium cushion with a corner tucked under the strap. The seat is pretty hard and uncomfortable without that; I will replace the seat with something more comfy later.

    Nice ride. Some people are just stupid. Plan out a trip with paper maps first, then use the GPS. Don't have a paper map, use Google maps or something and print it out. Garmin has settings to stay on the main roads, paved roads, or allow any road. Learn to use your device. The same thing happened between Boise and northern Nevada a few years ago. A couple from Canada followed their GPS to his death in Nevada in the spring on a dirt road with snow still on the roads. He tried to hike out. Don't think they every found the man's body (coyote food?).
