    I believe Raptor not only impacted Canada's Wonderland, but Kings Island as well. Banshee opened 20 years after Raptor opened. At least KI didn't make the same mistake and purchase a Vekoma SLC.

    I had heard of the exclusivity agreement in coaster enthusiast circles, but it's interesting to hear it was park confirmed and not just an urban legend. As good as it'd be to replace Flight Deck's trains with vest restraints, I'd also be okay with tearing it and Time Warp down and replacing them both with a better coaster, or a Tim Hortons, or literally anything else.

    I liked how you made this video! I'm so grateful I ended up with a fantastic invert at my home park, but I feel for Canada's Wonderland because I hear nothing but the worst about Flight Deck. Oh yeah btw I'm glad Top Gun at Carowinds got renamed to Afterburn instead of Flight Deck, I like Afterburn so much better. Anyway, I'm glad cedar fair acquired the Paramount parks in 2006 and have been doing great in "un-paramounting" the parks. Canada's Wonderland has really made great strides in the past decade and I can't wait for what their future holds. Hopefully we see Time Warp removed, Flight Deck at least refurbished with the better restraints and also I'm sure we'll see some more great coasters in the near future!

    How to fix Canada’s Wonderland
    1. Tear out Flight Deck and Time Warp, and replace them with either a B&M flyer or a B&M invert
    2. Since the park has two terrible wooden coasters, RMC one and replace the other with a modern woodie either from GCI or the Gravity Group
    3. Tear out Dragon Fyre and replace it with either a Mack or Vekoma multi launch. There might be some space limitations, so plans should be made accordingly.
    4. Tear out the Vekoma boomerang and clear out some of the surrounding land to make way for a Gerstlauer infinity coaster, similar to what Knott’s did with Hangtime

    It’s kind of funny because Kings Island and Canada’s wonderland couldn’t receive an invert due to the non compete, but Carowinds did get a Top Gun themed invert and benefited mightily from it. It makes me wonder how things would have gone had Canada’s Wonderland not gone the SLC route. I imagine they’d be similar to Kings Island in terms of lineup, where they don’t have a bad coaster in the park. As it stands, I think Carowinds lineup is better. Fury tops Leviathan, and while I’d say Behemoth is better than Intimidator, CW does not have anything like Afterburn or Copperhead Strike. In addition to this, it’s very clear that Cedar Fair has plans for Carowinds still. I imagine theming will continue to get better there and I foresee another major attraction or two being added in the near future to truly complete its lineup and make it Cedar Fairs premier park in the Southeast.

    They likely sent Volcano to Kings Dominion because of another exclusivity deal they had after Alpengheist, choosing to go with an Intamin launched invert because it was an invert like the other Paramount parks had while being so different from Alpengheist that the locals wouldn’t compare them. The reason Canada’s Wonderland got stuck with an SLC was because there wasn’t a good invert within the same market that would make the GP realise how bad Flight Deck is. While there is shared market with La Ronde which has a Batman clone, that didn’t open until 2002 so again, no good invert in the same market. And if I had to guess, this exclusivity deal was targeted at Kings Island since they do share the central Ohio market, which is why they never got an invert before Cedar Fair owned it and would wave the agreement. Ever wonder why they never got a B&M under Paramount, as the flagship park just minutes from Clarmont so it would be less expensive?

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  3 года назад +2

      I agree the deal was likely targeted towards Geauga Lake and Kings Island, but if the miles also hit Canada's Wonderland, they had a right to enforce it.

    Don't be dissing my #1 Top Gun (now Flight Deck)! Have loved this coaster for 20 years, and, to be honest, it is my favourite coaster ever. I don't need super drops like Behemoth, because while they're scary, I don't find them thrilling scary, I just find them unpleasant. I love the tight corkscrews of Flight Deck. My only complaint is that it's really short, but at 45-ish seconds (after the climb is done) it's not that much shorter than most coasters. Absolutely love this coaster, and I love that as new coasters are added, and "the only good coaster has to have a 90 degree drop from 5000 feet up" people go away so I can ride again and again. The experience of it has really stuck with me -- I remember the lift hill, and that first drop where a truck was parked so it seemed like your legs would get chopped off lol (I noticed that Canada's Wonderland official POV includes a truck there). After that first drop, there's a start of a loop and then it's just a whole bunch of head banging until you're jarringly stopped at the pre-station brakes with a giant headache. Cedar Fair did the same thing in 2015.
    Wonderland was supposed to get Yukon Striker that year, instead, based on low attendance #'s at Cedar Point they got Valravn in 2015 and Wonderland's Yukon Striker was delayed until 2019.

    I didn’t think B&M started using spring loaded wheels until some time after they built Oblivion at Alton Towers in 1998. It’s the reason that Oblivion isn’t a perfect vertical drop. Because they couldn’t figure out how to keep the running wheels snug against the track. So I don’t believe that the inverts built before this time have spring loaded wheel assemblies. I also never found any of the TOGO stand ups in North America to ever be rough or intolerable. Just kind of boring.
