Hey Peter, glad you've found what works for you. I originally found your channel when I moved over to Olympus, but will definitely keep watching. Your channel is about Photography first and foremost, and that's the most important thing for me. I already follow many non Olympus shooting photographers, so what you shoot with is no big deal for me. Enjoy the new camera!

Why is it that many RUclips photographers repeatedly affirm that the "Camera makes no difference" but end up making a new camera video?

    • @ForsgardPeter
      @ForsgardPeter  9 месяцев назад +7

Because it is true. It is not the camera. Most want people to enjoy the act of photography nio matter what camera they have. We still need cameras to make photographs so it is a part of the whole thing. Info about how cameras are is important. It helps people to learn about new features etc.

I think you have done the right thing. It's TRUE Olympus didn't make videocentric camera which is need of the hour. I also use separate camera ( Canon R) for my video works. Personally i can say that I will continue to watch your channel. Those who love photography irrespective of gear would do the same. I have used almost all brands in the past but realised brand loyalty doesn't always go hand in hand with your requirements. So cheers.

It's just gear, you have to use what serves your needs. I was a Pentax guy from my teenage years (I'm old now) and the only reason I switched to 4/3s (later m4/3s) was because Pentax was a bit slow moving to digital and I needed something right at that moment that was small and light and the E-M10 showed up. Funny but I still have an emotional pull to buy something from Pentax just to encourage them. This is crazy, I know, but there it is.

You needed to find the tool that works best for you…well done! . I would likely have gone with the new G9ii. Great AF and great stab. albeit a bit too big/heavy IMO, but you could use your lenses, but then again it sounds like many you simply didn’t use. Noted PetaPixel folks are now using for their videos it appears. It does sound like this was also as much about saving money while moving to a tool that matched your needs that are now video focused. Makes sense to me and impressed that worked so well! I’ve been considering same camera, but lack of good IBIS (from what I have seen on other channel reviews) for run and gun stuff holding me back (dislike gimbals though most folks don’t), otherwise work almost perfect I suspect! The 6700 would also have been in the mix; perhaps a bit better AF, but not quite as strong video features (very close), otherwise very similar. Will be interesting going forward to see your mix of cameras. My guess…you will enjoy both!

Thanks Peter for pointing out that the camera gear often makes no difference. I'm just happy to see everyone running for the next hype so the used market for MFT is full. I recently bought the EM10 M2 and the 17mm 25mm and 45mm 1.8 primes as well as the Panasonic 12-60 Kit. As a photographer that is all I'll ever need and I payed 700€ in the used market.
The output is just fantastic and I bet no one can see the difference in a side by side comparison of the pictures taken between this setup and a newer one.
So the biggest difference is in the wallet.
For you as a videographer and youtuber Fuji is the one to go for.
    Thanks for the wonderful content.

Absolutely reasonable, I run M 4/3 and Fuji gear and they don't get in each other's way. Generally I use the M 4/3 for travel, landscape and anything requiring long telephoto. Panasonic has been an innovator in video for a long time, and the Lumix S5 range is the most affordable full-frame hybrid system. It's wonderful to use without compromising on absolutely beautiful imagery. With more brands joining L-mount (including Blackmagic), I don't think we need to overly worry about its longevity! Some of the for me most interesting photography related channels don’t even mention, which camera system they use. And I don't really care. If I had to make the decision, it would only be about "which tool is the best fit for my purpose". If the purpose was to attract a specific audience with the camera system I use, I'd use one of the mainstream systems like the Fuji you have decided to use going forward. It never ceases to amaze me how gear centric photographers are.

I’ve been watching for a while but have never commented. I’m really impressed with your sincerity first of all, so thank you for that. I too am on the fence of buying the x-s20. I’m not a content creator but I own the X-H2s and a number of native lenses for events and birding. I wanted a smaller version for travel. I already have the x-t30ii but my eyesight is getting worse and the viewfinder is frustrating. The X-H2s has a phenomenal viewfinder so I should really buy two! Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and congratulations! Also, consider the 70-300mm. I have been incredibly impressed with its versatility and IQ! Cheers from Atlanta, Georgia, USA.

I was surprised, we have really good Finnish camera channels on YT and they talk about the system I was looking info on and not only that but more. Best thing ever. I got into MFT but still have my foot on the door for everything else. I watch your content because you are not just about gear but photography as a skill and opinions. Hi Peter, congratulations on your new gear. I hope it does the jobs you need it to do. I wonder if you could do a short video on the comparison between OM-1 and X-S20 (I think you said) and what differentiated the X-S20 for you for video. I seem to recall that you said that you were looking for a camera that could do standard 16:9 video and vertical format at the same time, did you get that with the X-S20?

I did. It can record 6.2K Open Gate. That makes it possible to edit vertical and horizontal video from the same material. I have a plan to make a video about what I gained and what I lost when trading my OM-1 to X-S20.

Good luck with your new setup. It's a shame OM Systems won't make a camera you could use. I've never shot a Fuji camera, but I've heard they're great. I guess you do get a little better low light performance out of the Fuji, I'm curious how much. I've found ergonomics more important to my old body than even weight. I'd like to hear your experience with the new system in those respects as well.

On this regard, I'd say 4k up to 120fps is very, very, very good, more than anyone needs... The cinema industry uses 4k at 24fps in 4/3 format for their uhd movies... Yes, the uhd ones you watch when you go to the movies to have a uhd experience...
5-6-8k are an overkill and a headache for anyone that edits video and needs storage space... Even 4k is an overkill for most final versions of videos. 1080p is used more frequently than you imagine in professional videography...
A move from the 20Mp 4/3 to a lower resolution but larger sensor with higher framerates would have been a much smarter move for videography...
But it's ok, anyone can choose whatever is more advantageous for them... No one has anything to do with it.

    • @ForsgardPeter

@@ForsgardPeter with 6.2k you get that cropping freedom for sure! I'm also wondering what would be the results using the cropping factor for telephoto, or macro videos, or simply to add that extra stability... The optics must be stellar though...

thank you for sharing your thoughts. I particularly found your Why This Brand section interesting. I've recently upgraded from E-M1i to G9 and that demonstrated how product-focused Panasonic is (Canon is distribution king, Sony is feature-focused). That, I hope, will mean they can attract people to the L-mount. The S5 ii body style is shared between G9 ii and S5 ii/x and I hope they continue to do this so that 2 mounts will share the same UI, batteries and ergonomics. Fujifilm CEO says that FujiFilm isn't significant on Fuji Industries' balance sheet but that they love photography and will not leave the arena. Canon/Sony are the safest mounts at present. Fuji/Nikon are the ones working hard to stay in the market. Panasonic are focused on video and are dipping into photography. interesting times :)
I think your focus on photography over gear makes your content interesting. Having experience of multiple brands can only help you in that. Choosing Fujifilm, is I think, a smart idea because of how popular the brand has become this year.
    Good luck in 2024!
