Oh My Gosh!!! WAY back, believe it or not, I was one of the handlers of Clarence_ around the early '60s!!! He was such a sweet boy, and YES - he WAS very cross-eyed. We were all so sad when he passed away around July of '69 at a rather young age! Thank you so much for the good memories there, buddy.✨🤗✨
@@sorryofficer1 THAT was the very movie I got to 'work' with Clarence!!! I loved that lion, and HE seemed to take great FUN finding one of us to LAY ON, totally keeping us DOWN until we would start scratching him all over until he purred... LOUD purrs!😂
Michel Gaudet I can barely comprehend what it was like to find a wild animal that behaves, essentially, like a domestic cat. It must have been an amazing experience.
20 years ago I paid £50 for a late model BSA Mercury from a private seller. Other than keeping it clean and changing the old breech seal I have done nothing to it. \the rifling is great, the barrel is true and the rifle consistently provides a tight group. It is still producing 11.5 FtLb and is a great old rifle.

@@kurt5079 : Including police officer shooting and suicide and everything else you can add to it... But England is so innocent! How about knife deaths, England is way higher!!! Statistics are "variable" on how you use them-- Duhhh
@@billdesmet3929 Nobody said the UK is innocent... I wasn't looking to trigger people merely pointing out due to higher regulation gun deaths are very rare. Suicides is a valid point. Police deaths are not. Police deaths are also incredibly rare as police are not armed as standard and generally neither are the people they deal with. So again due to regulation and the lack of armed police it is an issue that doesn't really come up. I'm sorry If you did not like it but my point is both accurate and valid.
@@billdesmet3929 Also on knife crime. Last year in the UK there were 221 killings with a knife or sharp instrument. Not ideal but still 45,001 less deaths than guns in the US the previous year. It is more likely someone will survive a knife incident than a gun one. I am not attacking America or creating a UK vs USA situation. Just pointing out that while higher regulation can be frustrating there are also benefits.
I have just got back into air gunning. The last time I owned air rifles was as a teenager in the early/mid 90s when I had a couple of BSAs and a Diana with which I used to go rabbit, pigeon and rat shooting, along with regular plinking to keep up my marksman(boy)ship. Now in my early 40s, I live somewhere that has a rabbit and rat surplus (and having just divorced my vegetarian ex) I’ve decided to get back into air gunning. Obviously, after so long I’ve got to get my aim back to spot on before going after anything alive, so decided that I would speak to my local gunsmith and seek his advice. In the future, I may well treat myself to a more expensive PCP, but to start with I decided to go for a entry level (but still decent) springer. So when I wandered into the shop, not only was the chap a very nice, knowledgeable and happy to help gunsmith, he also had a few secondhand rifles that he sold on commission for other customers. Given my knowledge of air rifles isn’t amazing, I had already sort of decided to stick with what I know and look for something similar to a BSA SuperSport, the rifle I had when young (new or secondhand, I wasn’t too concerned) By pure luck, he had just taken in a perfect condition BSA Lightning (and including a fairly decent Hawke scope) which also came with a warranty (provided by the shop not BSA obviously). For me, as a (sort of) newbie this was perfect, especially given it’s a carbine as I live on a boat and do not have a great deal of space. I’ve already put a few tins through it and am really happy with it and for under £200, it seems the perfect set up for someone like myself.
Hi Andy I’m an ex gunroom manager, and you bought it all back to me! Especially the state of some guns bought in after “my mate did it”. My mate is responsible for an awful lot of fettling😂😂 including over power guns!
One thing I’ve found about the general air gun community (I’m talking real air gun lovers) they are honest, friendly and approachable... it’s a grey area this, I’ve always purchased new from shops but the three second hand I’ve had (all collected by myself) were all practically new, as advertised and very very good value! On the flip side I purchased a brand new HW100 that required returning for repair after 3 weeks due to leaking 😂 it’s a tricky one! Late to this one but great video!
Purchased a 9 year old Hatsan 55STG 30gbp. Swapped the seal and spring and have a new airgungun. Overallcost was less then half of a new one. The gun was barley used and looks brand new. It came up in a chat over a drink. Springers tend to be forgotten and jsut standing somewhere in the corner. As a cheap purchase. It's nto so easy to forget a 2k GBP PCP... ;)
Have a good think about where you can use it first. Then go for it . Very addictive. Watch some of Andy's reviews , there are a few for beginners. well worth a watch ..
@@4486xxdawson thank you for your enthusiastic comments. since i was a kid i wanted an airgun. now i am retired and i think it is time to realize an old dream!
Listen to Andy he's giving it to you strait. I would never buy a second hand weapon without a dealer receipt. Which should be kept in a safe place.Money is not the issue here.
Second hand springers are hard to get, because i haven't parted with one since i started buying guns in 1974. I have top of the range pcp's but still use spring guns. Love AAR big fan.
I still have my first springer too. Apart from sentimental value, it's good to have something in your quiver that just works, doesn't need air or CO2, and will always be ready to go.
Good advice. I got my old, gently used (1 small scuff) Dianawerks M-34 for $150. It's a nice mellow rifle, that shoots perfectly still. I fixed it up a bit, and so forth. I ordered that AA pro sport Walnut in .22. Never had as much anticipation over a spring-piston since my HW35E. I'm praying for nicely figured wood, and no flaws anywhere. The video gives really solid advice. Easy to get burned.
A lot of very good points Andy. Sometimes a second gun is £30 cheeper and for that saving you get no warranty and most of the time a few marks and blemishes. I’ll pay the extra unless it’s a 80s springer I’ll been looking for. For a while. Great insightful blog.
I did exactly the wrong thing, I bought a BSA Lightning from 'a bloke in a pub'. Really cheap, came with a scope & case. It turned out to be the best buy ever! I've had it for years & is my favourite rifle (out of the 11 I currently own!).
I got my first PCP last year, a nice little BSA Ultra SE, which I found through Gunstar (UK website for second hand and new guns). It was listed for a shop a town over, so I popped through for a look, as the price seemed too good to be true, as it came with a Hawke Scope, silencer and bag. When I got there, they let me look the gun over, and though I couldn't test it as the shop didn't have a range, it came with a 3 month warranty and they had fully checked it over and cleaned it. As Andy says, I would highly recommend going to a reputable store where you have recourse if there is anything wrong with it. I also had my first trip to Drapers last week and found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming, willing to answer any questions I had and letting me handle the guns I was interested in. Walked out a happy customer having bought my brothers birthday present from them.
This vid brought back a bad memory, & is good advice for anyone, not just newbies to the airgun world. I bought a mk1 BSA R10 about 5yrs ago that had a certificate for a blueprint tune from J.Bowkett. Couldn't try it as it didn't have a scope fitted, & the guy lived in a flat. Once i got it home & scoped it up, the damn thing wouldn't shoot as I'd have expected it to. I persevered for a while, but eventually gave up & sent it to Phil at the RatWorks as he only lives down the road, & it seems that all the good bits had been taken off, & replaced with the standard R10 bits. Lesson learned for me..........shoot it, & chrono it before buying. If you cant, walk away.
After searching for a HW97K for about a year secondhand I bought brand new , no worry no waiting and not much more then second hand , and got to do the whole unboxing etc which was like the best Christmas! Managed to get a mint SH tx200 mk 3 beech 22 from gunsmiths rack was like new and came with a scope £375.00 and is mint really shoots well, I believe gun owners look after their guns and simply dont use them much. After watching this I'm gonna buy a pcp from new. Thanks
Even though I'm not in the market for a used air rifle, all the reviews are so good I have to watch them :) And to those in the market for a used one, go with a reputable brand. I was pleasantly surprised when I brought out my old (33 years more exactly) BSA Supersport Custom .25 to see that there was spares available from lot's of different sources. To nitpick, I'd like more springer reviews, i.e Weihrauch, Diana (especially 440/470 Target Hunter). Cheers
I've bought new and used air guns, mostly used. For example, bought a used Hatsan BullBoss .22 on eBay for $265 in perfect condition and very accurate. Good deals on eBay depends on the time of year. Bought a used Hatsan 135 in .30 caliber on eBay and again, arrived in perfect condition. When buying new my first stop is Pyramid Air and a few other reputable online stores. I stay away from Amazon. Anything purchased from Amazon is almost guaranteed to arrive damaged because of how it was packaged. In my area local mom and pop gun shops don't sell air guns or have a very limited inventory. I've had great success with Walmart purchases both in store or online.
Another great job Andy! Honest, balanced advice. 'Daktari' was a 'must-see' in my formative years, so the reference to 'Clarence' really made me grin! Roll on next one matey!
😁 I buy my rifles new....my wife ( who's a very good shot ) gets my newish hand me downs, she now has an Air Arms S410 carbine multishot and a BSA Multishot se....happy shooting folks 😁
Not really on topic but I just figured out that the Crosman DPMS AR-15 bb gun cycles "low ricochet smart shot" lead bbs! Don't know if it effects the accuracy but I can't wait to see! I know most bb guns won't so it's pretty neat for me.
Great video on buying secondhand. I've worked full time in the gun trade and still do a bit , this has some great advice. No matter where you've bought a gun from I'd always keep in mind that it will probably need a service in the near future and for some PCPs that can get quite expensive , even for a Springer you can be talking about £70 plus for a full service.
Recently purchased a new FX Dreamline with scope and case that someone else had ordered an then changed his mind. My Gun Dealer gave me a really good deal and I am VERY happy. I got more for my money than I thought possible. I even got the hand pump at a bargain price. I think it is better to stick with a reputable dealer for all the reason Andy espoused. Greetings from Australia.
Hi Andy I was one of the lucky second hand buyers. Found myself a real bargain on gun mart. Had to travel from derbyshire to north shields in Newcastle for it managed to get a black bsar10 with Hawke scope, bipod, silencer, bag and pellets plus all Receipts for the bargain price of £650 this was 7 years ago and I still have this beautiful gun today. I have had some work done over the years on it not because there was anything wrong with it I just wanted it altering to my preferences. Its had a full John bowker blueprint and the barrel length shortened.and puts pellet on pellet every time. As I said I am one of the lucky ones but it could have gone so differently especially after a three and a half drive up there to fetch it. Love the channel keep up the good work
Just like buying cars, it comes down to how much you can afford and how much do you want to pay. I love both and having been shooting for over forty years, it's a serious hobby in my life. If I want it I will buy it, no matter tbe cost. Even if it means doing without other things, like holidays etc. I nearly always buy my airguns, shotguns and firearms new. My wife doesn't mind as our son shoots as well. Happy days.
A very valuable and information-rich video, Andy… I’ve sold quite a few myself. However, I haven’t purchased a preowned gun for a few years… the last was a Beeman R1 springer in 20 caliber. It had a repaired stock, and it definitely wasn’t cheap, but it was from a reputable dealer, so I took the chance…. The gun was(is) a real gem…
Great video again Andy, and good points made. I've only ever purchased 1 second hand gun and that was from the shop I've purchased many other new guns from. I have been offered many for sale at my old club, but always declined the offer as I didn't know the history of what was on sale. I would rather wait a few more months and save the extra to buy new. That way I know the gun will be looked after, have no performance issues and usually will have a good warranty in case of any problems which arise. It may sound a little snobbish, but I like to know that what I'm shooting will perform to its best whilst remaining within the parameters of the law. I've always got a good price for any trade in's that I have made by using the same shop for years and knowing what sort of mark up they will need. They are always happy to take back a gun they originally sold that is in mint condition without question. Using the same dealer also let's me haggle more as they know I'm a good customer who will return time and time again and spend my hard earned with them. Its the gun shop for me all the way when shopping for new kit or bolt on bits! Cheers and keep safe!
Thanks to Andy’s informative and entertaining uploads I’ve decided to get into the sport properly. I have a .22 springer that I bought especially to deal with rats coming into our garden via next door, who insist on feeding the wild birds. Problem now solved, just the occasional rat trying his luck. Anyway, I am now awaiting delivery on a Walther Rotex Varmint .177 and the rest of the gubbins needed to start off in the world of pcp shooting. A bit expensive to buy all at once but hey, it’s my 60th birthday next week so I’m treating myself. Mrs. H won’t be too pleased about it though. Thanks for the vids Andy👍
Hi Steve, where did you purchase the Walther Rotex Varmint from during this lockdown jobby. Most dealers I have contacted will only sell when they get back to work full time.
Albert Smith Bradley’s airgun supplies mate, he’s in Essington near Wolverhampton. Simon’s a top bloke. You can go to the shop but not in. Phone first if you plan to order anything.
Bought a few refurbs from pyramyd air here in the USA and while not screaming deals, they saved me a lot over new. I had great luck on the old Kitching 'yellow' ads for a few more that have been and still shoot great as long as I do my part. And a few more new airguns rpm various places that I've had OK luck with. One needed a total rebuild right of the bat, and others just needed extended break in before finally settling in... So, I guess it's true. You're either lucky, have a good handle on your sixth sense for the deal, or ya get screwed...
Totally agree with all you say. I love my springers but the trouble is as you say when you have something you like you are reluctant to let it go. Eventually you end up with more guns the you have time to use them. Best policy I think is do your homework then try a few of what you think is right and pick what feels right for you. Enjoyed you video always do thank you
Very good points raised there as usual Andy. I have a fair collection of PCPs and the only ones that really held value are the Daystate limited editions. I find that brand also comes into it as, like clothes fashion, certain models become really popular for sometimes no real reason and then this has an affect on the value of others from the same manufacturer. However, the only way anyone is getting any of my rifles from me is to prise them from my cold dead fingers. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
A lot of common sense there Andy. I have never bought a new rifle and I have 4 PCPs, a mk1 Compatto, a mk1 Wildcat, a BSA r10se, and a Artemis P15. The Compatto and Wildcat were bought face to face and they are awesome. The r10se was bought unseen and posted to me, but only after many pictures and videos of the rifle and many conversations, again, awesome. The P15 did take some work to get it right, it was not accurate at any range, I turned it into a project rifle and had a HW110 barrel converted for it, it is now my most accurate rifle. I do believe, with the right research and getting to know the seller will lead to a good buy.
Hi Andy , Congratulations on today's show , a very tricky subject. Bet this gave you a few headaches ! Thank you for your hard work 😓. Everything you say is spot on . I've bought a couple of second hand Rifles . But I bought from a gun shop , so I could know some history of the rifle and it's serviced and some guarantee. It's worth paying a little bit more , for peace of mind . Looking forward to next Fridays Review. Be safe folks . Thank you Andy . - Cheers Simon from York 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟🇬🇧
As usual, I’m prepared to get in the thick of most subjects, I realise I will probably upset someone, but hopefully it was balanced, thanks for watching and thanks for your commits. stay safe. Andy & Mrs AAR
I prefer to use a gun shop. I recently got back into airguns after 40 year break. I purchased a second hand .22 hatsan a dive bottle full of air, a case and pellets for £400 in my opinion a bargain. The shop owner (Leicestershire) did say that I could trade the gun in if I didn't like it. So after a daily trip to the range I realised would have sooner got a 1.77 so back off to the shop and he allowed me all but about £30 money back against a trade in. He had a BSA R10 SE in midnight blue laminate, a decent scope and bi pod so the deal was done. After 3 weeks I was leaking air from the filler port so I called him up and he gave me the name of a very reputable gunsmith/ tuner who repaired it for me the next day free of charge. For me service is a big thing and I can not praise the service I had enough.
'You can trade the gun in if you dont like it.' line. They will give you the trade in value of the gun, not what you paid. A gun shop that wont fix a leaking airgun isnt a gun shop, they are box shifters
@@sahhull Very true, I was happy just loosing about £30 as I had used the gun for over a week, better that than being stuck with something I wasn't happy with and less hassle than trying to sell it on.
Interesting video. I have been looking at getting back into airguns having sold my RN10 a couple of years ago. I was looking at buying a new gun/scope package but they were looking at £1200 for an S510/HW110. I managed to find a HW100 with Hawke scope, bipod, boxed, 2 magazines for £655. I contacted the guy who lived 120 miles away and he agreed to drive and meet me half way. Always a bit of a risk buying used but thankfully this was an excellent purchase.
I have baught a aa s400 sh from a gun.shop happy days good deal 2000 pellets l8r I loaded a pellet wouldent fire then it would go off by itself which is very dangerous ....took it to a gunsmith to hear back that was a full budge Job inside and put back together wrong cost me another 100 think il buy new for now on or good sh from a highly reputable shop
Great article. Some interesting points. I have bought mainly new with a couple of exceptions. Only thing I never buy secondhand is tools , that's just my thing. Buying guns is like buying a car or a motorcycle , if you don't know anything about them , go to a dealer. Once you build up some knowledge and experience then buying elsewhere becomes less of a gamble. I hadn't thought about the legality issues. 👍
I have both used and new. But find often people have an overinflated idea of what their airgun is worth, often seeing used ones up for more money than I can get a new one for. But I've also had a couple of bargains too
And to add to your list of "where you may buy from:; add Car Boots (or if you are a US reader the closest thing I think may be "garage sale"). My father has picked up a few 'project' guns that way.But of course as people have mentioned "buyer beware' but the prices tend to be cheap.
.. Now im having flashbacks... Father Goose,houseboat...and the whole array of Disney movies from then.. Those were much better times in Hollywood.. My grandfather and i watched many of those greats.. Including Clarence..Then we would go and shoot in the front yard (in the country) after watching the rifleman or Branded... He was friends with and shooting buddies with Cecil Brooks, gunsmith,i held some muzzleloaders that i couldn't touch today with velvet gloves.. The flashbacks continue..lol...
Thanks Andy for making interesting and useful videos about topics that's close to the heart for us shooters. Very good and useful advices here. Both my riffles are 2nd hand and happilly from fellow club members, did shoot them before buying and I´m very happy with them.
I may have a Springer but she's a good one R-1 Beeman liked it so well , I bought a second $200.00 for my first and $265.00 for my second. Gave it to my Grand dad before he passed away then to my dad latter after my grand dad .. But would like a PC Rifle.. But it's the compresser and do dad's that shy me away .
Absolutely BRILLIANT info Andy! Thanks - I am to purchase a BSA R10 mk2 from a recognised gun shop tomorrow based upon your "ADVICE" ,most of which is pretty logical/sensible - the common sense - we would ALL have it rang SO TRUE in my head ! - 👍
Thank's Andy. First class as usual. I'd like to thank you for getting me back into airgunning. I used to have a couple of old Slavia springers when I was a kid. I have started buying a few guns and setting up a range in my basement. Sure helps during the pandemic. I am somewhat jealous though. Over here in Montreal, there are very few places where you can buy airguns, none of them specialized, there are no ranges and practically no second hand market. Another source of envy is your higher FPS limit and legal silencers. But we have full auto :-)This said, I really appreciate your enthousiasm for the sport, you are funny, intelligent and easy to listen to. Keep'em comin'
Old clarence the crossed eyed lion ... remember it well , Daktari .. aaahhh them were the days .. what happened to that white bycicle pump half way through? I wanted that , NO, I know it has no use on an airgun , and NO, I dont have a push bike , all I want too do it put my thumb over the end and make fart noises ... just like back in the 1960's Why would you pay extra for NEW when your OLD ( last years model ) is just as good , but a little less desirable ?? You ask , well .. lets put it like this You have the OLD model ( nichola sturgeon ) , yes , she does all the stuff ( well most of the stuff ) a NEW model ( jennifer Aniston ) would do ... as you would EXPECT to do , washing , cooking , hoovering , sweeping , looking after kids , washing the dishes , cleaning your motorcycle , washing the car , the list it is endless ( oh missed one , fetching your beer out of the fridge , opened for you of course )- BUT .. would you take nichola sturgeon to the boozer to meet your mates? OF COURSE NOT .. so a NEW model has that " feel good factor " and THAT is worth forking out the extra ( you have too put all this in the context of buying a new rifle or not ) Springers v PCPs ... 30% ~ 70% not hard too understand that .. PCP guys are generally lazy , rich , and cleanly shaved people , yes some have beards ( women included ) .. but generally that little " upper class " or so they think ( I own 10 ) . Springer shooters are the " rough and ready " types .. beards , ripped jeans , bad breath and general hygiene problems , ( I have 2 ) generally NOT so well off as PCP shooters , and can be seen picking dog ends out of the gutter on a Saturday night , after they stumble out of the pub ( that seems a long while ago ) .. it was once said ... when in the shower , a Springer guy will clean his genitals with a wire brush .. thats the difference Great vid ... really enjoyed it ... keep up the great work
Sound and sensible advice , almost all of my guns were bought second hand with the exception of a Remington Express which I think was a bargain , I've only had two poor buys neither of were expensive and both were cheaply fixable , but I've been shooting (on & off ) for over 40 years so have some experience and probably been lucky . Stay Safe Stay Well and Keep on Shooting (plinking in the garden at least, until the end of the lock down).
Just catching up on your previous reviews Andy . That must tell you “ you’re doing something right “ . Love your honest reviews. Take care , be safe . Best regards Dave
I just returned to hobby after about 15 years away, and actually bought my first new air rifle, a HW99S in .22, and honestly only reason I bought it new was I couldn't find a used one anywhere (in fact I couldn't even find a new 1 within 2 hours drive, had to travel good bit for this 1), thankfully all other guns I fancy all can be found pretty easy used
Just managed to pick a near mint one up myself from the Gun Star hardly used only had about 100 pellets thorough it if that. They seem a lovely rifle reminds me of my old BSA Supersport the proper Birmingham made one from the early 90s with the size, balance, weight and power. The new Supersport I nearly bought a good one used but the Newer Gamo made one, it was only about 20 quid cheaper too so the HW99 seems like I went the best route
I really like your way of talk. It's an charismatic, educated-aristocratic talk, and i like a lot. Andy, i would like to renew my old spring gun with an new pcp gun. I like three things from such a gun, 1- shoot count, 2-accuracy, 3-price. I wold really like to see this three modes included in all your upcoming videos.😁
Firstly I think this is the most informative video you’ve made. Every new buyers should watch it. Wow. I this we’ve been on the same Buyiing journey. Quite often. I’ll look at a used gun and still end up buying new because the owner says it’s tuned or it’s almost the same price as a new one. or just I’d like everything that comes with a new gun including warranty. Some of my favourite guns are late 1960s early 70s you can’t buy them new And like you say 9 out 10 are over priced scrap I find most gun shops have scrap yard corner. Guns with parts missing no sights scratched and rust and If they see your eyes light up. It’s like taking your wife to a car dealership for a new car and she jumps up and down screaming I want the that one, no matter what it cost , in front of the salesman Pcp’s are the worst to keep up with. They go out of fashion faster than r£100 tipped jeans a friend bought a top of the range. PCP Waited weeks for it bought all the extras Got it home didn’t like it. Just wasn’t for him, tried to px it a few weeks later. They told him. They aloud him less that a quarter what he paid including tank scope and hard case.. never stop learning everyday is a school day. The best day is when your picking a new gun up. Maybe that’s just me Keep the videos coming it’s making lockdown bearable. Cheers 🍻
As Andy Suggests but be careful Gunshops Dont buy anything from “The Gun Center” in lower town center in Swindon guys a con artist, even some pellets were messed up, buying in Swindon gonto “Wiltshire Rod & Gun “ well run clean bright , may be bit more but the quality is there checked over before purchase as well nice .
Great vid Andy. Unfortunaly keeping up with the Jones will always be an issue in all industries, with kids it either the latest PS/Xbox or phone, in my day it was trainers or Kicker boots, and BMX's. Agree on buying from a dealer, especially one you have been using for years.
It really depends on your budget and your experience. A good gunsmith will have quality SH rifles and new AND can give good advice - whether you want new or SH. I would always go for the high end SH option where you have a fixed budget. If you not constrained by cost ( or not you after rare SH items) then I would buy new.
Great video as always. Why more dont buy second hand amazes me as there are some excellent rifles turning up as all rush for the latest FX, AA or Daystate. Huntsman Regal, AA410 being prize examples. And yep, why get rid of a good springer you won't get much for it, they go on forever and make a great backup when the dive shop is shut indefinitely. I have to say I would always go through a dealer for second hand though as at least if you find the seals have gone you will have some comeback and they will have tested it to make sure its the correct power for your needs.
didnt have a lot of choice when i brought my 1919 BSA No2, i wasn't around when they brought them out, nor was my dad, but hey lovely springer, plenty of power, and, no cracking to the stock, but sadly its going to have to go as my eye sight just isn't up to open sights any more, and, there's no way of putting a scope on it, without damaging it, and, i wouldn't do that to this beautiful gun,
Thanks for another Friday Review Andy 😉👍. Concise and insightful 🧐. Have a great and safe weekend with Mrs. Andy 😷👉🗓. Liked, Loaded and shared ✔. Cheers 🙏
Buying second hand is difficult, you need to know that the shop you are buying from is a good one and has literally give the gun a full service and gives the gun a six month warranty.
Andy, I have just brought a Taurus 4-24x50 FFP Scope, Being new to the sport don't know a lot about the scopes , so can you please do a review on my know scope.
Well done another good informative show, I look forward to Friday's and another entertaining instalment. The show is well made keep up the good work Mr & Mrs AAR.
Please help: Bought gamo igt but shoots okay with only baracuda power and not any other pellet (tried 8 other types) every other pellet gets scattered everywhere. They dont accept it on warranty bc one pellet type works, what do you think? Thanks
great video and great info .. i used to sell new and used airguns years ago we always made sure even the vintage stuff was in perfect working order ,your right to just becuause its old dont mean its worth anything, we get in the same sort of stuff with guitars and other music gear as well sometimes it does pay more to get new but sometimes you can get older stuff thats great but you can get bad stuff to its crazy world..,. i think the highest risk on buying used is at the gun shows we use to do alot of those as well and even i used to spend alot of money at the shows and you have no idea what your getting till you get home and gun shows good luck getting warranties on those deals ..
Great honest programe I have AAs410 carbine and hw35 springer won't part with them unless good money is offered lol but planing a new gun but can't make my mind up. Either s510 or go for fx impact and never change again lol 👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁🤞✌️
A new Webley Omega that couldnt put 2 pellets together. Dealer swapped the gun for a HW77. I still own my 1980's HW77.. I hardly use it now but it was my first decent springer... Great video, I’ve been considering buying second hand but always dubious of what I’ll end up with, I’ll see if the gun shop has any appetite for a trade in when they reopen and stick with new I think.
Once again I love your channel buddy is it crazy that my family and I watch your channel every time you come out with a new video we get our coffee and kids and sit down together and watch your show my kids ask me dad what wrong with his voice lol i just tell them hes from the other side of the river ... but thanks for the info very helpful thanks for sharing
When I was looking for my first PCP, I found one local. I told him I'll buy it if we can get it serviced by the local gun shop. Obviously on my dime. If it was as good as he said, then there wouldn't be a problem. He outright refused, and said "they won't like my mods" This made me really worried he had overpowered it. So walked away.
Wise move. I've bought springers that have been messed about with because I know I can strip them, take out the junk people have put in them and return them to sub 12ft lb and original spec' cheaply and simply, but PCPs are not generally owner-fixable.
The world is full of secondhand guns and probably a bigger market than new guns, the amount of people who buy a gun package, scope, silencer, case etc, shoot it a few time and put it in the cupboard, there's many gun sites selling guns on line.
Excellent videos have learnt a few new things , but need some help with Airgun Barrels, details on the arrangement of the “Webley & Scott” Osprey side lever Super Target, in .22 cal, its barrel is screwed in ? but cant find one for comparision, as have some break barrels x7 , nearly all purchased together, but would need modifications carried out, as i know Osprey barrel has a space at the breech end before the threaded portion, and a smaller space before barrel butsup to the action, Standard Ospreys seem to be action/piston /cylinder together, with a heavy barrel attached permenantly , there is a video on youtube by Airgun uk, shows these rifles in two diff forms, BSA dont have the ability to supply Barrels as an option, this in the mordern age i find extradorinary ? but Gamo/BSA production takes first place, shame, but this is long enough already cheers nice channel

Small world and we really are showing our ages... shhhh 😉
I used to love Daktari when I was a kid👍
@@sorryofficer1 THAT was the very movie I got to 'work' with Clarence!!!

So sad you're only "allowed" 12lbs. That is why America 🇺🇸 is GREAT 👍...
@@billdesmet3929 You are only allowed 12 foot pounds without a license. Licenses can be obtained if you have a clear criminal record, no mental health issues and are proven to have safe storage. Basically if you are not an idiot or criminal and do not have mental heath issues you should not have any problems.
Yes guns are not as readily available as in the US but there are benefits.
2020 Gun deaths in America 45,222
2020 Gun deaths in the UK 30
It's nto so easy to forget a 2k GBP PCP... ;)
So so true. So many that sit in a corner not being used.
i do not have an airgun. but you really make me want to own one !
Time to get into the sport then...😉 Thanks for watching . Andy

Hi, thank you for your very kind words. Andy
Just agree totally!
100%
Second hand springers are hard to get, because i haven't parted with one since i started buying guns in 1974. I have top of the range pcp's but still use spring guns. Love AAR big fan.
that’s what I like to hear, a fellow collecting nut 👍😉
I still have my first springer too. Apart from sentimental value, it's good to have something in your quiver that just works, doesn't need air or CO2, and will always be ready to go.
Good advice. I got my old, gently used (1 small scuff) Dianawerks M-34 for $150. It's a nice mellow rifle, that shoots perfectly still. I fixed it up a bit, and so forth. I ordered that AA pro sport Walnut in .22. Never had as much
anticipation over a spring-piston since my HW35E.
As usual an excellent talk from a professional who knows his subject. I am often guided by his comments. Keep up the good work Andy.
Much appreciated!
Love your channel I’ve been watching for over the past year and hands down the best videos on air guns are here!
I did exactly the wrong thing, I bought a BSA Lightning from 'a bloke in a pub'. Really cheap, came with a scope & case. It turned out to be the best buy ever! I've had it for years & is my favourite rifle (out of the 11 I currently own!).
Nice to hear a success story
Thanks
Even though I'm not in the market for a used air rifle, all the reviews are so good I have to watch them :)
And to those in the market for a used one, go with a reputable brand.
I was pleasantly surprised when I brought out my old (33 years more exactly) BSA Supersport Custom .25 to see that there was spares available
from lot's of different sources.
Totally agree with everything u said. It's true
Another great job Andy! Honest, balanced advice.
'Daktari' was a 'must-see' in my formative years, so the reference to 'Clarence' really made me grin!
Roll on next one matey!
Me as well!
Had to travel from derbyshire to north shields in Newcastle for it managed to get a black bsar10 with Hawke scope, bipod, silencer, bag and pellets plus all
Receipts for the bargain price of £650 this was 7 years ago and I still have this beautiful gun today. Love the channel keep up the good work
scott bell . Nice one . Thanks for watching. Andy
Ha Ha, tell her you’ve had it for ages 😉👍
Hi Steve, where did you purchase the Walther Rotex Varmint from during this lockdown jobby. Most dealers I have contacted will only sell when they get back to work full time.
Happy Birthday!

A really interesting video for someone just into air rifles. The temptation to buy second hand has gone or tempered with a lot more caution.

I just purchased a new 177 Ruger today. I just discovered your channel recently. Good content 👍. Keep up the good work!
Welcome aboard! thanks for the positive comments. Andy
Very valid point and well put. Thanks for watching. Andy
Good advice for buying anything used.
I have both used and new. But find often people have an overinflated idea of what their airgun is worth, often seeing used ones up for more money than I can get a new one for. But I've also had a couple of bargains too
Have bought 4 as new HW's and a lovely TX200HC from the now defunct Freeads , more than happy with all of them .
And to add to your list of "where you may buy from:; add Car Boots (or if you are a US reader the closest thing I think may be "garage sale"). My father has picked up a few 'project' guns that way.But of course as people have mentioned "buyer beware' but the prices tend to be cheap.

I wanted that , NO, I know it has no use on an airgun , and NO, I dont have a push bike , all I want too do it put my thumb over the end and make fart noises ... just like back in the 1960's
Why would you pay extra for NEW when your OLD ( last years model ) is just as good , but a little less desirable ?? You ask , well .. lets put it like this
You have the OLD model ( nichola sturgeon ) , yes , she does all the stuff ( well most of the stuff ) a NEW model ( jennifer Aniston ) would do ... as you would EXPECT to do , washing , cooking , hoovering , sweeping , looking after kids , washing the dishes , cleaning your motorcycle , washing the car , the list it is endless ( oh missed one , fetching your beer out of the fridge , opened for you of course )- BUT .. would you take nichola sturgeon to the boozer to meet your mates? OF COURSE NOT .. so a NEW model has that " feel good factor " and THAT is worth forking out the extra ( you have too put all this in the context of buying a new rifle or not )
Springers v PCPs ... 30% ~ 70% not hard too understand that .. PCP guys are generally lazy , rich , and cleanly shaved people , yes some have beards ( women included ) .. but generally that little " upper class " or so they think ( I own 10 ) . Springer shooters are the " rough and ready " types .. beards , ripped jeans , bad breath and general hygiene problems , ( I have 2 ) generally NOT so well off as PCP shooters , and can be seen picking dog ends out of the gutter on a Saturday night , after they stumble out of the pub ( that seems a long while ago ) .. it was once said ... when in the shower , a Springer guy will clean his genitals with a wire brush .. thats the difference
Great vid ... really enjoyed it ... keep up the great work
Sound and sensible advice , almost all of my guns were bought second hand with the exception of a Remington Express which I think was a bargain , I've only had two poor buys neither of were expensive and both were cheaply fixable , but I've been shooting (on & off ) for over 40 years so have some experience and probably been lucky . Stay Safe Stay Well and Keep on Shooting (plinking in the garden at least, until the end of the lock down).
Just catching up on your previous reviews Andy . That must tell you “ you’re doing something right “ . Love your honest reviews. Take care , be safe . Best regards Dave
thank you. stay safe. Andy
I just returned to hobby after about 15 years away, and actually bought my first new air rifle, a HW99S in .22, and honestly only reason I bought it new was I couldn't find a used one anywhere (in fact I couldn't even find a new 1 within 2 hours drive, had to travel good bit for this 1), thankfully all other guns I fancy all can be found pretty easy used
You won’t go wrong with a weihrauch springer
Just managed to pick a near mint one up myself from the Gun Star hardly used only had about 100 pellets thorough it if that. They seem a lovely rifle reminds me of my old BSA Supersport the proper Birmingham made one from the early 90s with the size, balance, weight and power. The new Supersport I nearly bought a good one used but the Newer Gamo made one, it was only about 20 quid cheaper too so the HW99 seems like I went the best route
@@wad6216 when I was teen I had a lightening SE, wish I still had it tbh, the new ones are pretty meh
I have to say I would always go through a dealer for second hand though as at least if you find the seals have gone you will have some comeback and they will have tested it to make sure its the correct power for your needs.
i have had a 50 year old springer from new, i think i may buy new again just because the modern rifles are such good value
didnt have a lot of choice when i brought my 1919 BSA No2, i wasn't around when they brought them out, nor was my dad, but hey lovely springer, plenty of power, and, no cracking to the stock, but sadly its going to have to go as my eye sight just isn't up to open sights any more, and, there's no way of putting a scope on it, without damaging it, and, i wouldn't do that to this beautiful gun,
Thanks for another Friday Review Andy 😉👍. Concise and insightful 🧐. Have a great and safe weekend with Mrs. Andy

Nice content Andy, something a lot of people over look, that was good sensible information,
Keep them coming bud and stay safe.👍
Glad you enjoyed it, stay safe and shoot safe. Andy
All Guns of any type should be bought and sold through a proper Gun shop in my opinion
great video once again Andy
Watching your videos makes me wanna get one Airgun😍😍😍
Thanks for the advice
Hi Andy, thank you very much for this video. Very very helpful indeed. Hadn't even crossed my mind to look for used..🤠🙏
Hi, Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching. Andy
Buying second hand is difficult, you need to know that the shop you are buying from is a good one and has literally give the gun a full service and gives the gun a six month warranty.
I've 2 WHEIRACH 35s and they are beautiful,
I bought a factory refurbished directly from the manufacturer, like new with a warranty at about 40% off of a new one of the same model.
Andy, I have just brought a Taurus 4-24x50 FFP Scope, Being new to the sport don't know a lot about the scopes , so can you please do a review on my know scope.
Excellent Advice Andy, Thanks
Well done another good informative show, I look forward to Friday's and another entertaining instalment. The show is well made keep up the good work Mr & Mrs AAR.
Cheers Andy, brilliant, factual and cuts through the bull - as always
Please help:
Bought gamo igt but shoots okay with only baracuda power and not any other pellet (tried 8 other types) every other pellet gets scattered everywhere. They dont accept it on warranty bc one pellet type works, what do you think? Thanks
Nice one Andy, it will be the gun shop for me, anybody gone news on when gun shops and gun clubs could open. 👍🌈stay safe Mr & Mrs AAR.
great video and great info .. i used to sell new and used airguns years ago we always made sure even the vintage stuff was in perfect working order ,your right to just becuause its old dont mean its worth anything, we get in the same sort of stuff with guitars and other music gear as well sometimes it does pay more to get new but sometimes you can get older stuff thats great but you can get bad stuff to its crazy world..,. i think the highest risk on buying used is at the gun shows we use to do alot of those as well and even i used to spend alot of money at the shows and you have no idea what your getting till you get home and gun shows good luck getting warranties on those deals ..
The best bit of common sense i have ever heard; Keep up the great channel PLEASE
Great honest programe
I have AAs410 carbine and hw35 springer won't part with them unless good money is offered lol but planing a new gun but can't make my mind up. Either s510 or go for fx impact and never change again lol
👍👍👍😜🏴🦄🎣😁🤞✌️
chopperhehehe treat yourself to an FX impact 👍
An honest view,,,......Thanks, many will benefit from this.
A new Webley Omega that couldnt put 2 pellets together. Dealer swapped the gun for a HW77.
I still own my 1980's HW77.. I hardly use it now but it was my first decent springer...
My others:
Daystate CRX .177. Bought used from a club member who bought it then quit due to job change 2 months later.
Daystate 2000. .177. Bought slightly used via mail from Blackpool Airguns.. Yes before the VCR bill BS. Slightly damaged by Daystate during a service. Daystate refuse to admit liability.
Daystate Harrier .22 Bought new.
Steyr LG110 .177. Bought new
Sharp Innova .22 Bought new
Daystate Competa pistol. .177. 200 built world wide. and its still mint with the box.
Webley Tempest .177 . Bought new in the 1980's
ElGamo Centre target pistol..177. Bought new years ago.
It’s addictive isn’t it.
Great video, I’ve been considering buying second hand but always dubious of what I’ll end up with, I’ll see if the gun shop has any appetite for a trade in when they reopen and stick with new I think.
what do you think the best carbine air rifle under 500 pound is
Great show. What is the wood grained gun to your right? Its a beauty!!

Cheers Mate.
When I was looking for my first PCP, I found one local.
I told him I'll buy it if we can get it serviced by the local gun shop. Obviously on my dime. If it was as good as he said, then there wouldn't be a problem.
He outright refused, and said "they won't like my mods"
This made me really worried he had overpowered it. So walked away.
Wise move. I've bought springers that have been messed about with because I know I can strip them, take out the junk people have put in them and return them to sub 12ft lb and original spec' cheaply and simply, but PCPs are not generally owner-fixable.
I've got 2 airguns from used market still good functions still like brandnew
Were can I get second hand pcp airgun?

Excellent informative information
Brilliant episode.
Thank God it's Friday 🙏🙌 hallelujah, praise the lord, Praise almighty Andy and his Friday commune 😂 and it also means it's fish and chips for tea 😎 Brucie bonus, great episode m8 keep it up.
If it shoots straight. 👌
That'll do for me.👍
great video as always
Not only do I buy new, I buy from the manufacturer. I just ordered a TC-45 from Gamo Friday and can hardly wait for it to get here!
